The location was amazing, the bed was comfortable, and the room was quite nice, but the bathroom smelled like sewage. Had to keep the bathroom door pulled all the way shut and it was still intolerable.

I love the location of the property and the room is very spacious, very clean. The only thing that I don’t like is the check in time. Nobody is at the property. After 14 hours of flight you want to check in. But nobody is there until 2:00. So we just waited about 5 hours iand it’s freezing. And one more thing at night there is no hot shower. I already complain about it Still water is cold during the night times

Clean and very comfortable. Staff was helpful and the best sell of this hostel is the location. It's 2 mins walk from Royal palace. 19 mins walking from Pardo muesem and central park. Room balcony opens to main Street and it's buzzing till 12am. Front desk is available from 2pm to 10pm . We stayed here for 3 nights and didn't even once needed to take metro to anywhere. Everything is at walking distance. From airport you need to change 2 metros to get to Sol station and from Sol station it's 10 mins walk to this place. Booking this place saved us lot of time and money we could have spent if staying somewhere else. Worth every penny

I would have rated this hotel 5-stars had it not been for our experience on the first day. This is not an ordinary hotel, which we actually loved. It feels more like you are living in a small apartment in Madrid. It is a great location, very walkable to all major sights downtown and close to metro lines, restaurants and shopping. The room was clean, the AC was cold and it was surprisingly quiet. Everything we wanted. My only complaint was with hotel management. There is only staff there from 2pm-10pm which we knew. On the day we were to check-in our flight from the US arrived early in the morning. Earlier in the week, I messaged the hotel to inquire if there was any opportunity to drop off our bags. They told me that the day before check-in we would be sent an access code to the building which would allow us to drop off our bags early and then we could come back at 2:00 to check-in (BTW, you need an access code to enter the building at anytime of day). That was the last I heard from them. They never sent me an access code and you couldn’t reach anyone by phone. We arrived that morning with our luggage and no instructions at all. I started messaging with them the day before and all the way till check-in at 2:00 with no response. We ended up finding a luggage locker place a half mile away and stored our stuff there so we could go explore. When we finally came back at 2:30, we had to call to get access, our room wasn’t ready, we had to wait till they could let us into our room.

Excellent location for centre of Madrid, short walk to Opera Metro, slightly further to Sol. Loads of cafes and bars to hand, Carrefore within 5 mins. Rooms are basic but functional and the reception is operated part of day. Easy access in and out - only (minor) downside is poor sound proofing between rooms and street. Everything else really positive.

We really enjoyed the Citadel, it was in a great location and so close to loads of great places to visit. It was very clean and the room was cleaned each day we were there with lovely fresh towels. The staff we met were really friendly. Would definitely stayt here again.

A very convenient place in the heart of Madrid city centre, very close to metro stations and main attractions. It’s an old building, and it needs refurbishment, but this hotel is good value for money. WiFi works well, and I like very much that they try to be sustainable with water resources.

I am an Elite gold member of Expedia (they need a higher tier). I stayed at Citadel by Pillow for two night as I was with another larger group at a hostel, and became dreadfully sick. I was able to rest and sleep here without any bother or issue and it was super quiet. I did get a bit better by the time I checked out, but the place is immaculately clean, quiet, tons of channels on the tv, spacious and easily accessible. Top shelf!

Great place to stay. Once you find it. We had some difficulties. Apparently I was sent an old welcome email that had the wrong information in it. I could not access the entry before hand or call the MK within the correct times. Bit outside of the small lip it was wonderful. Clean. Nice neighborhood and nice room!

Not a good place! The building is quite run down, musty smell and the elevator is tiny. The stairs looks a bit unfinished/run down too.
The room looked OK and was clean but smelled musty/mouldy, especially the bathroom. I slept with the window open most of the night.
The receptionist was the best and only highlight of this place. Very enthusiastic and ready to share her knowledge about Madrid! I really appreciated that part.
I give this place 1 star rating instead of zero, because of her good customer service.
This is not a hotel nor a Airbnb. They have 10 rooms on 1 floor and reception staff is only there from 2pm to 10pm. In the morning, at check-out at 11, no one was there. Reception services starts at 2pm!
There is a phone number to call but noone told me the reception would not be there in the morning. The cleaning personnel do not speak English.
Thank goodness, I was able to get a taxi right outside at the end of the street, as it is also a difficult location to reach. Some taxi do not drop off right in front of the door. That is normal for the city center but this is a small alley that is hard to reach.

When I booked the double room through Hotek.com I made sure I chose TWO SEPARATE BEDS, but when I arrived at destination for my surprise it was one bed only. I complained as I paid for a differente type of room but did not get it.
I was told that this is an error of tge agency I booked with, as they (the hotel) never confirm the number of beds, they just decide for you.
The hotel appears on the web as a e star hotel, but there are 2 srar hotels better than this and cheaper.
I woukd recomend to sear other hotels better located, nicers, where you get what you oay for, and if any errors thet may di something to resolve, and I'm sure i'll cost much less in low season as winter when I booked.

Really friendly and helpful staff, great location...unfortunately that's about it when it comes to positives. It's advertised as a 3* hotel where in fact it's a hostel! We didn't have hot water for 3 days as we got one of the 2 rooms where the water is supplied by a hot water tank (enough for a 5min shower for 1 person). Definitely not a great value for the money we paid...

The receptionists at this Citadel were extremely kind and helpful (Adrianna in particular). Our WIFI wasn't working the first day and she made several calls and spent hours attempting to get it fixed. She was so apologetic and pleasant. The internet was fixed on the second morning. Another receptionist marked a map very thoroughly for us so that we were able to see some major attractions in a very short amount of time. The location seemed pretty great, seconds from Sol, the Palacio Real, and the San Miguel Mercado.

This is a nice little oasis in the center of Madrid. Tucked into the second floor of a residential apartment building, the rooms are modern and clean. They include some water and snacks. The staff is incredibly helpful, with lots of advice for what to do. Calle de Espejo is a quiet little side street just a short walk away from Puerta Del Sol or the royal palace, so you don't have to worry about street noise.

My situation with this hotel was that i had a reservation for some days in september for a vacation in spain and for reasons out my control like: Hurricane Maria (cat. 5) that passed over Puerto Rico we could not get out of the country for a week because the airport was closed to the damage and the blackout we had in the whole island, anyways i called to explain and see if we can move the dates and they were not helpful at all, even Expedia call the hotel and they were not giving me nothing, not even a discount on the other dates that the airline told that we could go on our vacation, i only want it a little something like a day free or a discount but nothing and we were going to make another reservation even if we already loss like $800 in the first reservation. I understand the no cancellation things and all that but in the situation we were passing the only thing as a marketeer that i could think was a discount or free night just a little something for the $800 i already paid. We anyways go to spain and stay at the Eurostars hotel in madrid and Barcelona and they were great, we spend more money in that hotels and for Citadel i hope that they are doing great but for customer service they are the worst, Same as my word of mouth will be when somebody ask me about reccomendations!

Only good thing is location

The room was okay. The bed was fairly comfortable. The key pad did not work late at night and luckily someone was picking up laundry and let us into the building. The water was lukewarm at best and quickly became cold. The shower head was broken. There were no safes available in the room. We were charged for the first night before arriving and we were not given the choice of currency (charged in US dollars when we wanted to be charged in Euros.
The location was great but it did not make it worth what we paid for the room.

Fantastic location, close to all of the places we were interested in seeing. Lots of good places to eat close as well. The only down side was the shower. The door opened into the shower so it was really hard to get in and out of it, and it didn't close properly so water went all over the bathroom. Overall a nice place, but the bathroom was impractical.

The Citadel is centrally located at the heart of historic and commercial Madrid. It is a delightful 'no frills' property that provides a safe, clean place to sleep as you explore Madrid and its surroundings. Breakfast can easily be had at any one of a number of eateries within five minutes' walk. Don't forget to overindulge on churros con chocolat!

Nice hotel in the city center

We really enjoyed out stay at The Citadel :) Perfect location - in the city center yet far enough from all the noise. It's about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Opera metro stop which makes it super easy to explore the city. The building itself is older and the stairs leading up to the second floor are creaky... but don't let that throw you off - the rooms are modern, spacious, and clean! My only suggestion is that The Citadel post a sign in the building letting you know that they're on the second floor as we were a little confused as to where to go upon arrival. The front staff was kind & even made taxi arrangements for us. Highly recommended :)

The building was a little hard to find. The inside hallway and corridors need a redo .however inside the room was comfortable and spacious. The reception staff at night and in the morning were great and welcoming. Very central and a great start to our trip as got to leave our bags and go see the palace. This was good as I did the marathon Sunday so it meant not on feet all day as it was 2 mins away.would recommend this hotel and if back in Madrid would use it again.

Short walk to Plaza Mayor, puerta del Sol and LA Latina neighborhood. Also a short walk to the palace and cathedral in the opposite direction. Great room. Large enough. Comfy bed. The floor seemed a little dirty and dusty but I supposed that's what happens with no carpeting. A little hard to find as it is tucked away in a tiny hidden street, however definitely would recommend it!!

The staff were lovely-helped us book our return taxi's, rooms were cleaned everyday by lovely cleaners however its just a floor of a building down an alley. the entrance always smelt funny and we were always bumping into strangers and resisdents and we didnt always feel safe past our room door as we knew we had to walk back down this alley in the dark, so we never stayed out past 10pm. this wasnt advertised or else i would not have booked.

Nice small hotel. Right in the centre of the city, really close to an underground station. Really nice small bars nearby, including the anti-cafe. Easy to walk into the centre and to get around. Reception staff were always very pleasant and helpful. We had no problems with noise, nor did we have any issues with the slight incline on the road to get to the hotel. We will definitely return to this hotel were we to return to Madrid.

Great location!

Lovely large, clean room with pretty much everything you need, personally I would have liked an in-room safe for security but the lovely helpful staff and brilliantly central location makes up for that!
