All staff between the inn and the restaurant were very friendly and super helpful. Meals were great....breakfast was delicious and both dinners were excellent. Parking is right outside the door.

As was expected, the rooms are small and the air exchange is not the best. The bathroom was small but nice. It is very quiet.

We enjoyed our stay.

We went for an anniversary trip and we were not disappointed. The staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. Service was fantastic and the room was comfortable and maintained well. The inn had modern conveniences but had great historical touches. The only complaint was that our room didn’t have a fridge/ but the staff let us use their staff fridge for our leftovers. 10/10!

When we got back to the room after dinner there was a 4x 4 area near the hot tub going into the restroom that the floor was wet. We called management but they did not detect where the issue was from. They gave us a box fan to run to try to dry it out. They did not have another room available.

Enjoyed the personalized service from start to end. The room facing the river does overlook a parking lot and marina before seeing the river, but it is still pleasant. Attached restaurants were tasty. Appreciated the history and encourage you to splurge for a balcony. WIFI was strong enough to work from the room.

I picked this place for the jacuzzi tub but it was really small and only one person at a time. The shower was also reallllly small. The building is very old and shows its age but very clean. We weren't impressed for the price but it was an okay place to stay.

This is a unique and historic B&B along the Minnesota - Wisconsin border so we decided to give it a try after seeing a good state on Travelocity. While the place is old ( in fact the oldest B&B establishment in Minnesota by their claim), it has been updated and the room we stayed in was spacious, had a whirlpool and large bathroom. It was also very cold. The heat pump and electric fireplace took several hours to warm the room and the bathroom floor was an ice walk since the room had not been preheated. So the room should have been preheated for a reservation on a cold witness day. It is an older building so plenty of drafts. The worse part of this reservation happened before we arrived. We were called from the Afton Inn to confirm our reservation and were asked to give the 3 digit code on our credit card. Within a few hours our card was used to pay for a $240 bowling party a few miles away from Afton Inn and someone attempted to buy $700 dollars in computer equipment. Fortunately the credit card company spotted the computer charge as a potential fraud and shut down the card. The bowling party charge is in review currently. I notified the B&B of my suspicion that an employee had stole our credit card information but never received any confirmation from them they investigated the incident. So I would be wary of using a credit card at this establishment.

Love this place. The warmest welcome from reception the minute you step inside the door. Personally excite yes to our room by the inn keeper on the desk with a nice run down of the place. An Inn That’s Seen Better Days :(

I hate to say this (really) because the staff were so nice and the location in the center of Afton is perfect (if you like quiet and idyllic). But the Afton House Inn is old and is showing the wear and tear. I certainly don’t need the latest and greatest but this Inn has definitely seen better days. Case in point is the massive jacuzzi tub that took up a significant portion of our room. It felt so 1980s when I’m sure the Inn was in its romantic heyday. That said, despite its age, the staff were so truly kind and helpful.

Disappointing experience

Our room was taken by someone else when we got there. We were given another room which was an \"upgrade\" but it faced the street, did not have a balcony or patio. The hot tub had missing and broken parts. It was a terrible experience. Once we found the 1 person who works her butt off there, she got us into a better room, actually it was our favorite room. She goes above and beyond. She even gave us some truffles. She also gave us 10% off Dinner, but then the hotel closed everything dude to weather (which didnt get bad until much later). We were told we were the only guests. We didn't get to use our discount, we didnt get to relax at all with all the changes. I get rooms like this when I am suffering from Burnout and need to relax and just get away. I was at a conference the week before and really just needed to relax. It was also my Huband's birthday present and it was ruined. Except for our wonderful lady! She is amazing or I would have given all 1 star for this trip, which was quite the opposite review we gave last time. If there are only 2 people in the hotel and you offer add ons, they should still be available to the 2 guests. Im not sure we will ever come back, cause if it snows it closes, its like you have to look forward in the weather to know if they will randomly close everything. This was a waste of 600.00 dollars and that's a shame, we were going to hold events here. I'm the VP for a company, and we wanted to do retreats here and such.

Charming, historic inn that could use some updating. The staff was friendly and the complimentary breakfast was good. We got one of the bigger rooms and the jetted tub was nice. Sometimes there’s a curfew so be aware of that. However, my big downside is the older crowd that the inn restaurant draws. I work with people and I’m a friendly people person in general. It was clear that my presence as a younger queer person made them uncomfortable- they constantly gawked at me whenever I left my room, they were disrespectful, and even when I politely held the door for them they ignored me. The inn itself and staff were lovely - it’s a shame that their customers are not.

Best place to stay in Afton, Minnesota

I love the historic aspect of it, and Peggy was amazing with her fine dining experience and told us the history of the Afton historical in. Everyone was so happy and wonderful, and the rooms were very clean. They really know how to make cocktails in the bar and they have a wide variety of wines at swirl. The food was amazing not that much attention to the morning breakfast we had to get our own stuff like coffee cups and silverware and dishes. They weren’t so great at replenishing breakfast but that’s OK. The rest of the state made it more than worthwhile and the views are beautiful of the marina and Saint Croix river and your Jean at the front desk is amazing at up selling, so that’s awesome, she gave us so many ideas of things to do in the area as we came down for the strawberry festival, but weren’t as many strawberry things as I anticipated with the vendors should be more strawberry things. It is a great place to go and relax and unwind, and be together .

This hotel is good for people who don't have health isssues. My husband is handicapped and really shouldn't be doing stairs. When we asked to be moved downstairs we were told there would be another $96 charge to do that. The watwr smelled and tasted like well water and the purified water cost $3 each. It was just not economical for us.

I liked the overall property. It’s a quaint old house with two restaurants conveniently linked, and jetted tubs in many rooms. Great location, friendly staff, very good breakfast.

What I liked less was the condition of the room. The bed was uncomfortable, the pillows were lumpy, and the lighting was weird. My room only had two light options: the switch by the door, most of which were industrial lights that were focused on the ceiling, and the bathroom light, which was behind the door (hard to find) and ran the fan. There was no reading light that could be reached from the bed, and only one lamp to give off mellow light. The room was just kind of tired. There is a difference between historical charm and worn out, and this was more the latter. Tired linens, tired curtains, tired towels.

Finally, double-check the price on Expedia vs. the hotel’s site. I did not do so and got overcharged by Expedia as a result.

This guy was a bit condescending as well - which is funny, because I am a 46 year old Naval Officer. I laughed it off, but it was annoying nonetheless.

We spent the night here and it was not quite what we expected. Pictures are a bit deceptive in size of rooms. But then the name Afton Hpuse Inn should have told us that. Queen beds seemed more like doubles. The system is on well water which we found heavy tasting and was surprised that we had to pay $3 for a bottle of water. Overall the stay was alright because of history and attached restaurant and bar with super service! For the price we will look for another venue when we come to visit son again.

I loved the breakfast. That they kept as much as possible of the old fashioned look while being modern. I loved the wood.
I didn't enjoy the mattress being very firm and the pillows being soft but that's because I prefer it the other way around. Its a beautiful property and friendly staff. It is not handicap accessible. If you can not easily walk up big steps and a steep spiral climb I would not stay there. The bathrooms are also small. The place is gorgeous and I enjoyed my stay.

I love the semi private deck with private entrance. The room was super cute and jacuzzi was amazing. Next time tho, I will request some things and advise you to do the same. This was end of May, beginning of June. Weather is not too predictable and it was hotter than I anticipated. There was no air conditioning, which would have been fine because it got very cool overnight. But when we opened the window, there was no screen, and I didn’t want bugs flying in. No screen door on the deck either. And there was no fan. I was miserably hot unfortunately. I’m sure they had fans available, next time we will just ask. My experience wouldn’t stop me from coming back. This was just my kind of hotel :)
