I loved the AC in the room. I also loved the fact that there is luggage storage but you don’t have to use it necessarily. I liked that there were no bunk beds. My bed was tilted so I didn’t sleep the best but I would absolutely stay here again.

As a young solo traveler, I highly recommend Ostello Domus. The front staff Rebecca & Angela were very welcoming. They provided me with places for me to explore and even gave me a map with personal notes on it. I will Definitely recommend this place for any travelers I know going to Venice.

This place offers dormitory style rooms with shared bathrooms at a very affordable price. My private room was small with a twin-sized bed and a sink. There was no AC but they provided a fan. The staff was very friendly and helpful and will hold your luggage after checkout. This place is very accessible and only 10 min walk away from train station.

Downside was that the office closes and they lock up around midnight, so you need to check-in or get back by that time. I had a late train and luckily I communicated with them and got checked in just in time. Bathroom didn't have a lock and no bath soap/shampoo.

Overall, an excellent place for solo travelers on a budget! Not super comfortable or luxurious.

I have limited qualms with the locations or venue itself, but the idea that we cannot return post-0030, pre-0700 each night is absolutely absurd. Put a code on the door. With all of the shows and opportunities Venice presents, requiring people to come back to their apartment at some time is archaic. The sun doesn’t set until 10PM in the summer.

Really nice place, super close to the bus station which was helpful. Check-in was very easy, elevator was broken when I was there but normally there is one. Terrace was the best part, though, nice view over Venice, great place to have breakfast, a little cooler than the rooms which were fine but didn't have AC. Would definitely stay again!

Noise from the road.

Big windows are great but due to the noise from vehicles passing by below and the road being copperstones, it was very nosiy hence my roommates closed the windows and it can be bad as there are 6 of us in the room ! Location is good.

It was the cheapest hotel I found in Venice.
They lock the doors from midnight to 7:00 am. Our flight got delayed and we arrived at the airport after midnight, we called and the receptionist said she wouldn’t open the door until 7:00 am so we had to sleep at the airport because all the hotels were sold out
For 2 days it was ok but more than that it would be bad.
The location is good , close to the station and walking distance to attractions.
There is no ac so it was uncomfortable to sleep and the beds were not good.

The hostel is located in the central, walking distance to all the tourist attractions. The room was clean, big enough and the bed was comfortable. It was quite hot in the room but they had a fan so it was all good. The bathrooms are quite old and definitely need some renovation but they were clean. If you have big luggages like I did and coming from the train station, go across Constitution Bridge, at least the steps are not as high as the Scalzi Bridge IMO

Comfortable hotel in a nice area

The hotel is a 20 mins walk away from St Marks Square, and is close to restaurants, cafes and a pharmacy. It is in a relatively quiet area so the noise level from outside is low at night. However, they have an old school elevator so the noise from the banging of the elevator doors is very loud, which made it difficult for me to sleep at night. They have a fan in each room so heat isn’t an issue at night. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The bathrooms were kept in good, clean conditions

The front desk staff was very friendly and allowed me to check in early after I had been traveling overnight by bus and arrived before the check in time. Property is old, but the elevator did work, which was a huge bonus. No Air conditioning, but they did provide a fan in the room. Noisy outside, but that is to be expected when you pick a place that is right in the heart of the city. Two very good cafe's right outside the door that had excellent breakfast lunch and dinner and were much cheaper than places on the main square. Also has a nice kitchen area that does have A/C, so you can sit and cool off and charge up your electronic devices. I would bring bug spray though, as the mosquitoes were really bad, and I needed to keep my window open for air flow.

Clean, budget accommodation with budget amenities

Easy check-in and out. You will either be locked in or out at 0030 until opening again at 0700! Room was clean, as were shared facilities (kitchen, bathroom and shower). No air conditioning (seems to be average for Venice) or fan, but the balcony opened up for a breeze. At times it was a little noisy, but I would not hesitate to stay again if on a budget!!

Great friendly place

It is a simple hostel, but it is managed very well. There is everything you need for a basic stay and everything is in a good condition. I think our triple room was charming, old, but charming in an old European sence. We enjoyed the terrace, we used the kitchen for quick lunch and dinner, which was very convenient for us. The carfew wasn't a problem for us, but I can see how some people would like to be out after midnight. Location is convenient, beats staying off the island.

DO NOT COME HERE! We almost moved hotels.

I had booked a room for $50 2 nights before. Lovely place with a courtyard, breakfast, clean bed. The hotel got fully booked so we had no choice but to stay here. At $70 you would think it was decent but OMG was it the most disgusting place we stayed in. Everything was DIRTY, old and dusty. There's a curfew at midnight to 7am in which time you are not allowed to exit or enter the building. We arrived to dirty beds and apparently there were fresh sheets on top of a dirty bed. We had to make it ourselves. The bed I got wa sweaty, moist and filled with snall hairs. There was only one extra socket in the room and one light bulb. Extremely hot during the night and only 2 bathrooms to share amongst 10 (?) rooms. Most horrible stay of my life. Do not come here. This place is scamming people. I cannot understand how it gets its decent ratings. Perhaps the people who stay here think they are getting a deal but there are so many other hotels for the same price (if you book early) for even less the price.

Front desk staff very helpful and friendly. Building itself is very cute also. Room looked like a dorm room and beds were not comfortable. I'm usually not even that picky but I stayed at 2 other locations in Venice during my trip and they were so much nicer for the same price. This hotel is not bad it's just not the best you can get.

Old and Not Clean!

Very Old Building and the worst bed foams. If you are very tight with money and would like to live in the Venice center you can choose this hostel. Otherwise you can find better hotels with better price at Venice Mestre which is 10 minutes train ride away from Venice city center and they are cleaner with comfort. The building is very old and cranky and it is used as a Girl's hostel during the year for the local university.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hostel. It's extremely close to the train station, which was a big plus considering I was by myself with large bags. The people at the front desk were super friendly and helpful from the very beginning. There is a dining area with a kitchen (fridge, sink, microwave) as well as a sitting room with books and a terrace. Overall, everything was clean, spacious, and comfortable. I stayed in a co-ed room with three beds and I had no problems. No air conditioning but they provided fans, and occasionally I found hot water in the shower. There is a curfew at 12:30 which could be annoying if you wanted to stay out later, but I had no issue with it. I would recommend it!

The staff here were so nice and friendly and very accommodating. There was no air con but the provided a fan. However room was still so hot. Felt like we were sleeping in a sauna. (Worst nights sleep i have ever had). The showers were questionable. Prisons would have provided better facilities. The water was freezing. The taps to control temp were confusing and didnt work proper. The water was a little dribble out of the nozzle. However the location was spot on. Very ideal for getting about.

The hotel was everything I needed, considering the budget for my trip. If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere, although this hotel has some delightful architectural details. If you want simple, affordable accomodations near transit facilities and near everything you want to see in Venice, this hotel is worth looking at.

More of a hostel with private rooms than a hotel. Price was good but really basic facilities.

Thankfully we were provided with a fan for our room otherwise it would've been impossible to sleep. Most things were fine about this hotel except the cleanliness. Floor was dirty in our room and the sink in the toilet had no soap. We had to make our own beds - linen was just stacked on the bed.
The 4th floor terrace was awesome though, great views of Venice. Location good too, not too far out of the city centre and close to the train station. Conad supermarket just a few mins walk away.
Staff were great, really helpful and friendly.

The hotel was very nice, the location is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, unfortunately there is a curfew. After midnight and before 7am the hotel doors are locked. Guests can not get in or out. This is not mentioned in the information on hotels.com.

You can request an early exit on your last day to catch the train for instance. I did this for 5am, unfortunately the girl that was supposed to let me out didn't wake up until 5:30am so I missed my train. Thankfully I had the Eurorail pass so I could catch the next train but it still put me of schedule by an hour that day.

The hostel is great if those hours work for you, if not then I would recommend another place.

Good points: Friendly staff and good location. Bad Points: Noisy place, The hotel conditions were bad (washroom without light, noisy bed, etc). If you just want some cheap place to drop your stuff and sleep, it's okay. If you want comfort, nice installations and a good night of sleep, maybe it's not the best place.

We really enjoyed our stay at ostello domus civica that turned out to be a great hostel/hotel with wonderful staff. We had a twin private room that was basic but comfortable. The shared bathroom was clean. The kitchen could be better equipped but the location in Venice is amazing and so easy to navigate to the main areas.

Nice hostel close to station!

The hostel is close to the bus and train station, making it easy to find and convenient, especially when you want to leave your luggage after checking out to explore Venice and then on your way to station, you can pick up luggage. Another thing I like about the hostel is that it has several different shower rooms-I found one with just one shower and one toilet-like a private bathroom. There is also a small kitchen and dining room along with \"entertainment\" room to watch TV or read. Staff was polite and approachable. Only con is the curfew. Anyhow, I would stay in the hostel again.

Good value hostal especially for an expensive city like Venice. Definitely not fancy-the room had an old musty smell, the towels are tiny, no soap provided-but functional. Also, the hostal closes at 12:30 am, can't come back after this time nor leave until 7 am. The staff was really nice and helpful and there's a large living area and dining room. The hostal is very close to train/bus stations, another plus.

Friendly staff, well located but very difficult to be located if you are not familiar with Venice. Guests must be back at the hotel no later than 12:30am, it is truly very hard to keep watching the time when someone is just trying to enjoy the vacation. If you don't come back by that time, you have to sleep out. You also can not leave the hotel until 7 am, not good if you have a earlier flight. I would really double think about staying there again.

A Gentle place....

I love the Domus, I have stayed there before, and have never been disappointed. For Venice the rate is very good, and although there was no en-suite, I had no problems with sharing a bathroom, which was always empty when I needed it, and spotlessly clean. I loved my little room which overlooked a little canal, and though it could be i little noisy at times outside, I got used to it very quickly and made it all part of my Venice experience. The mainly young staff are kind, helpful and unfailingly pleasant, and it has a neat little kitchen too.

You get what you pay for.

Great area, nice staff, but due to it being such an old building, nothing is quiet. If an ant broke wind, you could hear it on the other side of the hotel 3 floors away. The internet rarely worked. I couldn't complete what little work I had to do. The ventilation was non-existent. Opening the windows wasn't that bad except that mosquitos would enter my room. I woke up with at least 5-7 bites per morning. Overall the staff was great but I'll never stay there again if I want to sleep decently.

Experience was overall pleasing. Only negative thing is that you cannot leave the hotel before
am in the morning. I had a early train so I began to head down the stairs around 645 with luggage. Hotel staff came out very angry and yelled stating I awoke everyone. The elevator does not function from 12 midnight to 7 am in the morning so stairs can be annoying to take when you have luggage and need to be somewhere early.

I disliked only that you have to pay for the Wi-Fi.Really liked friendly stuff(speak few languages) and good location as well.However kitchen decoration could be better even for a hostel.I am talking about one wall.it has some sort of huge plastic whatever that looks like a coverage for something). Dirty, didn't get a single wink.

It was dirty, the room was small, the beds were awful, the bed frame was broken. An alarm went off in the middle of the night which added to more discomfort as we struggled to go to sleep. It was during the summer heat but the lack of ventilation despite opening the windows is downright awful. Worst stay during my trip in Europe and certainly one of the most expensive ones. Will not go back again.

Do not expect TV, free wi-fi (extra charge), air conditioning or bathroom (on the floor). These things are not why you are in Venice anyway. The only serious drawback - you can not get in or out between 12-30am and 7am, so check your flights/trains before booking.

I wish I could give this a higher review. But overall it was quite a decent hotel/hostel. Location was excellent and the area was full of things to see and do to a wanderer of streets. Internet was affordable and accessible in the rooms which was great. But the things that I was not happy about were the lack of free soaps (my luggage had been lost for the night, and the room just provided one plastic cup). The other thing that caused trouble was finding the hostel. Its facade is very subtle and doesn't have obvious signage. A photo along with directions might be helpful to future visitors.

Nice ODC in Venice, Italy

Despite lots of people who stay @ the ODC, the staff was very patient and nice, plus everyone could speak english. The place was a stone throw away from the main bus center, so make sure you know your way to get there or you might miss it. Remember, its Venice- the labrynth of Europe. The ODC is quite nice and very secure as well. They allowed me to leave my bags in the kitchen/baggage room while I left for the whole day until late and everyone respected other people's things. I guess they thought that if you don't want it to happen to you, then don't do it to someone else. Aside from paying for the wifi, sharing a bathroom/shower, thin walls, and curfew time, I still believe it was Great Value for your money. Keep in mind that you don't stay in the hostel when traveling. Its just a nice small place to lay your head, shower, and meet some cool people. Enjoy your advenutres! ODC is SOLID!

the hostel was great for the price. Very clean. The only thing that might bother some guests is the noise. You can easily hear people talking in the hallways when coming back at night but that's about it. Be aware that there is a curfew from 0:30 to 7.

I was a bit unlucky with the mosquitos but besides that i would recommend the hostel to anyone. It is very clean and honestly, for the price I think it's a great place to stay in Venice.

PLEASE DON'T STAY, Don't ruin your trip!

Well, what can I say? It's a dorm for God Sick ! Stayed there one night - we came late at 10 PM and left first thing in the morning - We didn't want to take a shower -- We were scared -- BUT DONT WORRY! The place is safe. We ended up there because we couldn't fing anything that night in San Marco --- I LEARN THAT YOU DONT NEED TO STAY IN SAN MARCO - Venice is SMALL - Stay any where it's only walking distance --- Beside the fun is to get lost in this labyrynth

However they LOCK you in from 12:30-7am. which is ridiculous because it can get so hot you want to go outside and enjoy a beer or something and instead youre locked in the building. staff wasnt that great except for one guy. It wasnt anything special at all. they did have wifi but it costs EXTRA. its not very expensive but it should just be included!

We went in a summer season.
The rooms don't have air-con, it was very hot even at night. We couldn't sleep with the windows opened because of the mosquitos and/or sleep with less clothes because there are other buildings (hostels) around, they could see us sleeping and so.
Another bad thing is that they lock the hostel from 00:30 am to 7 am, nobody can't come in or go out during this time. Imagine, we are tourists, we want to explore the city as much as we can and we need to arrive before 00:30am otherwise we would sleep in the street... I was feeling with 13 years old when my mom controlled me.

The attendent was very friendly and helpful, even with those negative points I recommend this hostel.

Clean, affordable, plus a great story!

I stayed here for three nights while in Venice just a couple of weeks ago. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful, to the point of going above and beyond! Here's why: While having breakfast at a cafe across the way, I left my iPhone on a chair by mistake. When I went to retrieve it a few minutes later, it was gone. Long story short, several days later, the barista at the cafe confronted the person who took it and demanded it back. He then delivered it to the hotel. The staff called my Mom after finding her name (same as mine) and number on the phone. As I type, the phone is being mailed back to me. My stay at the hotel was not only comfortable and affordable, and in a fantastic location, but it gave me a heartwarming story I will always remember!

Lovely Stay in Venice

Staying in this Hostel was my first experience of basic accomodation and im pleased to say it was a good experience. We stayed for 2 nights. We used shared Bathrooms, the toilets and showers were clean and clean towels were provided. The room was basic but the sheets were clean and our room had its own sink which was usefull.
The staff were very friendly and kind. We left our bags in the luggage room and they were safe plus even after we checked out the staff said we could still use the Showers and toilets if we needed to.
The location was perfect and the price was even better. Venice as a whole is very expensive so it was nice to save some money on accomodation.

Simple, clean, affordable

If you just need a clean, cheap and safe place to crash for a few nights than this place is perfect. It's close to the train station, the community bathrooms are clean, and it was really affordable. The only thing that I had some trouble with is it can be kind of noisy at night. Every little sound echoes off the hallways inside and the streets outside. Also you can't stay out past midnight because they lock the doors but Venice doesn't really have a lot of night life anyway.

Strictly for the young

The hostel is fine for a one-night stay as long as you are under 30 and do not suffer from head/neck or backache, ever. If you do, avoid the place as what you get for a pillow is a brick in disguise. The room is extremely basic, with a bunk bed, but you do get a basin, and the bedding is clean. More on the plus side is that the staff could not have been more friendly, and the communal toilet and shower were also clean.

Good budget hotel

Domus Civica was pretty good. It's an older building so it does have an authentic feel to it. I stayed in a single room which was clean and spacious. Wasn't a fan of the (small) shared bathrooms, but they weren't too dirty. My main complaint it with the lockout (well technically lock-in) from 12:30am to 7am. It really prevents you from seeing San Marco and the Rialto devoid of tourists. I stayed until 11:30 and there were still plenty of people around. Also the Internet was overpriced and not that great (slow and some sites were blocked)...

aunque el edificio en sí está viejo por dentro, la estancia fue cómoda, el personal amable, lo que no me gustó fue que cierran el hostal y si no llegas antes de esa hora te quedas en la calle ya que no hay recepción 24hrs.

The room didn’t have private w.c. and bathroom. But overall the beds were comfortable and clean.
The windows didn’t have net, so if left open there were a lot of mosquitoes. There was a breakfast room which could be used by guests. The staff were friendly and location was accessible to main bus station, Rialto and some other important places by foot in less than 10 min

Hôtel bien situé, proche entrée de Venise avec gare et bus et parking voitures, et proche centre. Personnel sympathique. Rooftop avec vue sur la ville. Cuisine à disposition.
Mais chambre très basique, lits ne paraissant pas solides, sol de la chambre et des salles de bains salent. Hôtel bruyant entre les portes qui claquent et le rooftop à côté de notre chambre.

The room service and the keys

We where very happy with the hospitality, but not with room service we stayed 4 nights and not once the room was cleaned. Also we would suggest that for the room keys to be more protected. For example we just said the room number and without any questions they just handed the keys to us and for that reason we didn’t leave anything with value in the room we didn’t feel safe, it would be better for the receptionist who gives the keys to verify with id card or any other verification that is your room.
