The restaurant was very good but the outdoor patio really needs umbrellas because of the hot sun and no shade. The hotel is adequate. Never before have we had to ask for towels, ask for the room to be cleaned, ask for shampoo, ask for coffee … the staff, however, were very helpful and friendly.
We stayed there because of the location which was a short walk to the sport centre. There’s really nothing else around it except for a lovely park and the botanical garden.

My room had spills on the bedside tables that had been missed before my arrival. The air conditioning in my room also did not work.

The hotel is a little bit dated. Location was good for our purpose, with free parking. But I would not recommend this location if you want to go to the old port every day. Restaurant is ok, I was surprised the restaurant was closed for the Canada vs Morocco game.

A good, family-friendly hotel. Staff was courteous and helpful. Rooms were no-frills, but offered all we needed (who travels to a new city just to stay in a hotel room anyway?). Indoor and outdoor pools were great for kids. Hotel location itself is convenient to Biodome, Botanic Garden, and Insectarium. Lot offers plenty of no-hassle parking, which enabled us to stick to public transit via the Viau station on the green line (12-15 minutes from the hotel, depending on the walking speed of your group). From Viau, you're another 15-20 min. or so from downtown sights and restaurants. Our only critiques: 1) breakfast options in the area are sparse, so you're limited to the hotel, a boulangerie 8-10 min. away, or waiting to eat until you get downtown; 2) the bathrooms inside the rooms do NOT contain sound well, so if someone flushes in the middle of the night or early in the morning, everybody wakes up.

Our stay was great. The property was clean and staff nice. Our children enjoyed the indoor pool. There is also an outdoor pool but because of the heatwave, we remained indoors. The proximity to biodome, jardin botanique and stade olympique was great! Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great location and rates for business or personal stays alike. Walk to the park, grocery store or gardens as part of your stay.
Montreal has something to offer everyone!

Room had very clean, with a super comfortable bed, a convenience bar fridge to store drinks,

My only suggestion for the hotel operators is to replace the oversized, dated jacuzzi tub, to help conserve water!

Staff were lovely!

The hotel was clean and was close to Biodome. The hotel restaurant The food we ordered (spaghetti, calmari, margarita pizza) was delicious! Our room had a bit of musty scent and the washroom sink was next to hair dryer which was attached to the wall. This is safety concern, suggestion the hair dryer should not be attached to the wall, while using the sink the dryer came off the hook almost landed into the sink. This is bad idea to have it attached right beside the sink. Overall the hotel is close to restaurants, and places you want to see.

It’s totally different from what was shown in the picture. Dirty carpet & sofa, no cleanliness in the room. Don’t even dare to look at side sink hole, it’s gross. All together, it was worse nightmare.

Hôtel bien situé pour la St-Jean-Baptiste.
La chambre était tranquille, de bonne grandeur et avec les commodités nécessaires.
L’hôtel est vieux, manque de rénovations et d’entretien. Ce qui affecte sa propreté.

We had a nice one-night stay at Hotel Universel in Montreal. The location is great, with close proximity to several museums and attractions, which made it really convenient for a short trip. Walkable distance to the planetarium and biodome, which we visited. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which we appreciated.
The hotel itself does feel a bit dated, and that shows in both the building and the rooms. While our room seemed clean enough, it definitely gave off an older vibe. The free parking was a nice perk, but the lot could use better maintenance.
On the positive side, the swimming pool was a highlight—clean, warm, and enjoyable. One downside was the noise level; we could hear people outside the room quite clearly, even late at night despite posted quiet hours.
Overall, a decent stay for a short visit—comfortable enough with some good amenities, but the property could benefit from some updates.

I booked a stay for my sister who was visiting out of town and was in her last month of pregnancy. They gave her a room where the bathroom was unclean, the toilet did not work, and the bathtub and sink was lined with mold. The wallpaper was chipping off and the AC did not work. I booked the hotel due to great reviews and amenities but you have to be careful which room they assign you to. For this price, no room should have mold.

While the hotel and the rooms were generally very clean, the nicest area of the hotel is when you immediately walk into the lobby where you check in and find the restaurant off to the right. The rest of the property, especially “garage area”, is very, very run down and in desperate need of some renovations. With that said, for affordability and location purposes, it was a very comfortable stay and didn’t feel concerned about bed bugs or roaches inside the property and would stay again.

Bar and restaurant in hotel is convenient but food is just ordinary. Wait staff are friendly and very accommodating. Front desk very friendly and helpful. Informed there is no cleaning service available unless requested. We made one request and by 2pm canceled it because we had returned to room and it had not been cleaned.
Asked front desk for more shampoo. No problem and they apologized for no maid service.

While we were there, there was a major wrestling event and lots of wrestling teams. Also a wedding and a communion. The hotel was very noisy. Room doors slamming all night long. Loud music in foyer and restaurant.

And tried to find an ice machine. Unsuccessful.

This hotel needs updating. The bathroom had recently been updated and looked great but the room was showing its age. There was a visible gap between the door and the frame, which allowed all the noise from other guests to enter the room. This was significant as many young adults and teens were staying at the hotel while we were there.

No room cleaning unless you ask for it but no one tells you that. Bath tub faucet came out if the wall. No outlets. The 2 in our room had multiple power bars so forget charging anything. The property is extremely rundown and poorly maintained. During our stay, the cleaning staff regularly left vacuum cleaners and housekeeping equipment in the middle of the hallways, which created an unprofessional and unpleasant environment. Unfortunately, our stay also coincided with the Formula 1 weekend, meaning we paid nearly double the usual rates, which made the experience even more disappointing.

The hotel feels completely outdated — as if it has been frozen in the 1980s — yet it charges prices comparable to a luxury property like the The Ritz-Carlton. Advertising this as a four-star hotel is very misleading; in our experience, it barely met the standards of a one-and-a-half-star property, especially at $600 per night.
