I stayed at The Lalit London last Thursday and the experience was hugely disappointing.

There was a booking date issue caused by a third party website. Despite this being clear, the hotel refused to amend the booking or honour the rate I had originally secured. I was forced to rebook on the spot via the same third party site at reception and was asked to pay an additional £70 for the same room on the same night. No flexibility. No goodwill. Just rigid and unhelpful.

The hotel markets itself as five star, but that is purely in name. I was allocated a disabled access room on the ground floor which was extremely noisy, with staff passing directly outside late at night and again early in the morning. Sleep was poor.

The curtains did not fully cover the window and bright external lighting shone in 24 hours a day. The windows themselves were filthy and looked like they had not been cleaned in months.

Overall, the stay felt tired, badly managed and nowhere near five star standards. Given the price, it is extremely poor value for money and I would not stay here again.

We had 6 pieces of luggage between us and there was no offer for help, no greeting, etc. I was incredibly disappointed as this is supposed to be a more luxe experience.

All staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was spotless, and although not that big, it had everything we need. The complimentary mini bar is a nice touch and staff asked multiple times if we needed anything further. We didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on the food. Great location for Tower Bridge and Borough Market and central enough to get to other areas like Covent Garden without too much trouble.

I stayed one night and unfortunately experienced dirty bed linen with visible marks, which is unacceptable at this price point. My room was also opposite a staff/fire door that opened and closed loudly and repeatedly throughout the night, making sleep extremely difficult.

The building itself is beautiful, the location is excellent, and the bar is lovely, though service was slow with only one staff member on duty.

I raised these issues at checkout and later in writing (with photos of the dirty bed linen). While apologies were offered, the hotel declined to provide any meaningful compensation, which was disappointing and did not reflect the seriousness of the issues. They offered free breakfast and room upgrade (subject to availability), but I am not interested in returning to the hotel.

Overall, not the standard I would expect from a top-end hotel and the price paid. I will avoid in the future.

When we checked in they said that everything had been paid for, then flagged us down to pay later. Lots of confusion.

Our first room 314 was the noisiest room I have ever stayed in due apparently to the air conditioning units directly above it. The sound was so loud is was vibrating through us. The staff offered us earbuds!!!! This is meant to be a 5 star hotel. Eventually, after saying there weren't any other rooms due to the hotel being full. Magically one was found and at 11:45 I was shown the room just past the reception. Immediately it was obvious this room wasn't being rented due to the damp smell that hit me. I suggested this was not a suitable alternative and they were sorry about the smell but could solve that by spraying air freshener around!! Like that was going to deal with damp! Therefore we had no choice but to stay in our first room (314), eventually having to accept earplugs as a solution, in what is meant to be 5 star hotel!!! After a terrible 3 hrs night's sleep we were then offered a new room which ended up being fine and at least quiet to sleep in after our 20th anniversary meal at the Shard on the Saturday. On checking out they asked if the stay had been nice and I said that the Friday night had been horrible and the response I got back was \"Yes that's why we move rooms for you the second night\", no apology at all, just rude. Trust me stay somewhere else, there are plenty of better hotels on the area. We have stayed all over the world and this has been the worst hotel stay to date!

The ‘junior classroom’ room was clean and novel - tall pitched ceiling into the roof space. Very nice room with complimentary mini-bar was a nice touch. We didn’t eat there or use the spa facilities but what we saw was a unique boutique hotel, converted from a Grammer school. The check in staff were courteous and friendly. I would definitely recommend a stay here.

Good looking hotel with friendly staff and a good sized bedroom allocated to us. Breakfast options were largely good, with a range of cooked Indian or English food options available, but it is not good value if you are only wanting a continental style breakfast as there is not enough choice. The dining hall is cavernous, so lacking in atmosphere when dining in the evening. Background music is played far too loudly over meals.
My only niggle about the room was the TV, which stood right at the base of the bed, and which I continuously knocked into.
Used the hotel as a base for other London activities, so can't report on any other aspects of the hotel, like the spa.

The room was very clean and the bed, although only a standard double, was comfortable. It was a bit dark in the room but there were nice complimentary soft drinks and snacks. The heated toilet seats were an added luxury. We drank at the bar and had dinner at the restaurant and breakfast. The staff were all polite but we found the service very slow e.g had to wait quite a long time for drinks to be brought over and the restaurant was nearly empty. In The morning at breakfast, despite staff being around, empty dishes were not cleared from our table until we were leaving even though we started having to pile plates up. The food however was very good and we enjoyed our stay.

A charming hotel in the centre of London

We stayed for our wedding anniversary. What a well run place we've discovered. We were made very welcome. They gave us a beautiful suite which was a welcome surprise. The cocktails in the bar were out of this world. Kalum deserves a pay rise! The breakfast too. What a delight. We tried some of the Indian options, and boy were we pleased we did. What a memorable and charming place to stay. We loved having a Toto toilet in the room too.

So much wasted potential

Incredibly unfriendly staff. I felt my checking was an inconvenience to them as maybe it was just me and just one night. They talked down to me and having stayed the night before at another 5-star hotel in London (Hotel 41) it was night and day. Other than the grand hall, everything else just felt a bit dated and poorly tended. The room was advertised as having a nespresso machine, which is great apart from there being no nespresso. There was one small towel and requesting a second took ages to arrive.
