I cannot speak about all the rooms here, but the one we stayed in was not sanitary.
Both beds had questionable large areas of brown stains on the box springs and the odor when you open the door hits you so hard. Originally it smelt like the room had been soaked in urine mixed with pinesol. We thought maybe it was a reaction to something with the cleaner, so we opened the window, turned on the fans and left for 3 hrs. When we came back the odor was still there.
We complained to the front desk but the hotel was full so they could not move us rooms until the next day. The front lobby and hallway did not have this smell, just when you opened our door. We tried leaving the door open and window open with three fans running to get rid of the odor but it did not go away. I had to be up at4am the next morning for a race so we decided to just try and sleep. I was very uncomfortable here and barely sleep.
After my race they said a room would be ready at 3pm for us to move but was told it \"may still smell as this is an old hotel\" and they could give us an air freshener. We decided to check out early and find another hotel.
I choose this hotel for the location not the ratings, but we barely spent more than 7 hours in our room because of the odor and dirtiness of the room. We didnt even want to sit in the chairs in the room.
The staff did try to help the best they could but I do not believe anyone should be breathing that mysterious odor in......even if its a 2 star hotel.

Lovely beach view and convenient location, but pretty dismal other than that. Peeling paint, linoleum, and carpet; shower sprayed more water from leaks than shower head. . Furniture and linens all so dated and felt dirty. Lots of water damaged carpet in halls covered with plastic.

Although the building is old the room was large and clean. From our room we could see English Bay. The location was good, many restaurants to choose from and the beach is almost 2 blocks away. A convenience store next door to pick up water or what have you. The only thing was we couldn’t park there because we had a large tahoe, they only had a few underground parking spots. We had to find a spot across the street in a impark lot. You were lucky if you found a spot because the area was very lively day and evening.

This is definitely an older property but it fit our needs perfectly. It was well priced, beds were comfortable, staff was friendly and rooms were clean. You definitely cannot overlook the location. You walk out the door and you are right at English Bay. The parking is achallenging for a larger vehicle but there is pay parking across the street which can work as an alternative. We will be back!

Had the quality of an old apartment that's never been updated since it was built in 1975. Hallway had brand-new yet super-cheap carpet that smelled very bad (new carpet adhesive smell). Parking garage was down a terrifying incline in a narrow passageway. The staff was nice, the price was good, beds were comfortable, but the place was... interesting. Could really use some paint and the services of an interior designer.

The room was several rooms, which I wasn’t expecting. Kitchen, bathroom, 3 beds, dining room and a view of English Bay. All shabby — circa 50’s without updates — but clean and spacious with a great view. It was great for the price. Very well located, right in the centre of things but there is traffic noise; 3rd floor so it might have been less. A great two night stay. (There were plenty of fans, a/c and space heaters if needed.)

This was my fiancé and I’s second stay at English bay hotel and I can’t say enough great things about it. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, we arrived a few minutes before check In and our room was ready so they let us check in. We stayed in room 327, which is a studio with two beds, fully equipped kitchen with everything you need. Room was very neat and clean with a comfy bed too. People say it’s old and can use a face lift but I was perfectly happy with the old style of the hotel, it added to its charm. They use actual keys to enter your room, not the cards that don’t always work. It’s was chilly everyday we ventured out so the hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate available to hotel guests was really nice. We had a great view of the bay and sunsets from our room, I love that you can open a window to let some fresh air in too. This hotel is in a great location, tons of places to eat with great food. Nathan’s pizza, legendary noodle and chicken world were my go to places to eat after exploring Vancouver all day. We did not try the restaurants the hotel sits on top of but it always smelled really good especially with always having my window open. If you are planning a week long vacation to Vancouver like me, I highly recommend staying in the English Bay Area at English bay hotel, there’s everything you need within walking distance. Thank you for having us again English bay hotel, we will definitely be back.

This Hotel was awful!!! I understand a hotel be older but there is no reason for it to be dirty! Even if it’s old you still can have a bed that is 4 inches dipped in the middle! The bedding did seem clean. We decided that we could not stay there. I’m a world traveller, have stayed in Hostel, etc. This was bad! Would not refund money!! What bothered me was some people traveling are on a very limited budget. They deserve a clean and respectful place to stay. We are all working very hard to go on a vacation!! Shouldn’t have to accept this!!

I liked the more old-fashioned style and wooden furniture of this place, but various things were a bit worn and the bathroom floor looked rather dirty. Unfortunately, the drains have cockroaches; two showed up from the bathtub drain during my stay. (Plug the drain when not in use if you visit.)
In other words, the place needs some work, but not too bad considering the very low price and great location. The front office staff were also very polite and helpful.

The restaurants below are the after hours places that drinks go to for more booze, drugs and barely any food. Who eats shawarma until well after 4:00am on a Thursday night when all other restaurants and pubs are closed by 2:00am? So the hotel is ok. The restaurants should be closed by 1:00am. If you don’t want to sleep at night ask for an ocean view room. You’ll be wide awake until the morning rush hour.

I stayed there last week for 3 days and 2 nights. I landed in Vancouver early in the morning, and check-in wasn’t until 3 PM. I arrived at the hotel about four hours early, but the receptionist was incredibly kind and accommodated me with an early check-in at no extra charge, which I truly appreciated.
I absolutely loved my room — it had a beautiful beach view! Everything was very clean, especially the bathroom, which is always a big plus for me 💯. The location is also amazing — it’s super convenient and close to everything.
