Beautiful hotel, and very centrally located. The incredible park is just across the street so if you are on foot, this is a perfect choice. The only drawback was the Wi-Fi, which was nearly impossible. Other than that great stay!

NOT a 4-star hotel!! More an Ibis with a comfortable bed.

Positives: near station/park, comfortable bed, management listened to feedback.

Negatives: lacked character. Lobby was 80’s disco, not elegant (but front desk paintings were nice). Poorly trained staff; the night staff tried to be helpful, but didn’t know many things; I was told to ask the manager the next day. Was supposed to get a discount for spa services, which hotel website said included a massage service; I chose the hotel for a massage. However, I was told that massage wasn’t included in discount. Was supposed to get discount on food, but was told there wasn’t a restaurant. Asked if discount applied to buffet breakfast, but staff didn’t know. No onsite restaurant (only a breakfast room with expensive buffet breakfast). I went to lobby to order a drink and relax at the \"bar\", but no actual bar, just a few chairs in the lobby. And drinks must be ordered from room service, so was told to go back to my room to order from a QR Code. However, there was no QR code in my room, so staff had to bring one. Gave up and went to sleep. I stayed in the least expensive room, but still expected some interesting architectural elements. But they were mostly covered up with drywall. Furniture too large for room, making it cramped. Espresso maker was only slightly filled with water. no outlets near bed, poor lighting over vanity (kept trying to turn on even though it was already on), paper cups that didn’t fit the espresso maker.

The hotel was ok. We would not stay here again. The room was small and we were always left with the feeling of being cramped. Too often doors were slammed at late or early hours. You could hear water running from other rooms. The breakfast was expensive for what was provided. We have been traveling in France for 6 weeks now and this hotel was at the bottom of our list - despite great marketing. I was surprise at the resort fee since it was not a resort!

A very pleasant surprise

The owners have done a fabulous job in converting this former church property into a hotel. The desk staff were exceptionally helpful at check in giving us great advice on things to see and do in the limited time we had. Their dinner recommendations were great. We were very pleasantly surprised as to how good this hotel would be.

1. It is too easy to bump the hot/cold lever in the shower which could really harm someone. Also the shower curtain could use some weighting at the bottom to prevent it billowing in while you shower.
2. Closet hangers face the wrong way making hanging things up inconvenient

Very nice boutique hotel near beautiful Jardin des Plantes and a stone throw from the city centre. It's a converted chapel and beautiful details have been kept to create a modern stylish space. Staff was lovely and breakfast delicious.

Staff member makes for memorable visit

This stay was the last night of a three week holiday which was planned last January as a stop over en route back to get our ferry. I thought i had prebooked parking but a change in their available parking meant i did not get a space. However Alexanne on reception came to rescue and not only gave up her space she also booked us a very good restaurant at short notice. Whilst Our room was very tight spacewise the hotel is lovely. i will know to book a bigger room. we had a super stay because Alexanne went the extra mile for us after our long journey. Thank you it made a huge difference.

Easy walk from train station, and right next to a large park, which is nice, but it is several blocks to restaurants and any kind of retail. Well positioned and quiet.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It is situated in a quiet street alongside the Botanical Gardens, very near the train station and tram stop with easy access by transport or on foot to all Nantes has to offer. The parking for the hotel is a payable extra.
The renovation of this former church to hotel is well done. There are photos displayed in the hotel which record the work. Evidence of the church is still to be seen inside the hotel. As for the exterior, little has changed.
We had a warm and helpful welcome.
Our room was comfortable, warm and quiet, but smaller than we had hoped for. We were surprised to have paper cups for tea or coffee in our room.
We cannot comment on the breakfast as at an additional 38euros per couple, we thought it expensive.

Modern comforts in a renovated old church

We thought it would be cool to stay in an old church. It was also very close to the train station which was convenient. The main lobby was really beautiful, retaining elements of the church with the windows and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Our room was very clean and comfortable but very little of the church was noticeable in it except maybe the window. I think leaving some of the walls bare would have added to the charm. Our room didn't look anything like the Hotels.com photo.

A church that is converted to a hotel. The rooms are interesting because of the church windows in each room. However, the rooms are real tiny (no room even for a small desk). The tiny bathroom is separated from the room with a set of bars. The beds are marginally acceptable for comfort. Otherwise, the rooms are clean. The location of the hotel is good -- right across from a park that opens to the center of the city on the other side.

An old church that has been done up sympathetically, with a modern touch...with good heating (always good for getting off a motorbike in late spring ;-). The staff were helpful. A beautiful hotel, unique hotel with sparkling ultra-modern rooms in an ancient renovated church, The lobby has the soaring ceiling and stained glass windows of a chapel while the rooms are decorated in striking colors and offer thick terry cloth robes and a welcome snack ocake and fruit, Staff was very helpful. Great location near the station on the street bordering the beatiful botanical garden, so it was convenient but quiet. Sozo means imagination in Japanese and it sums it up.

We had a lovely stay at the Sozo. Very close to the train station and the number one attraction, the gardens. It was very quiet but within 10 minutes walk/two tram stops to the bustling centre. The hotel is set in an old church building but is very modern and bright. They also have a spa which is available at a small extra cost. The bedroom very compact but felt light and airy. One thing I didn't like was the flooring in the toilet and the bathroom which was a matting of sorts. The toilet smelt like a toilet and I feel this was the flooring that was holding it as it was very clean otherwise. The breakfast was a good quality continental style with freshly squeezed orange juice available too. the staff were vey helpful with dinner suggestions etc. All in all a super, slightly different place to stay.

An excellent, quirky yet stylish hotel...really unique. Fixtures & fittings are of a high quality and the staff couldn't have been more polite & helpful. The park next door is stunning. We didn't relish the short walk into town in the evening, but really it was perfectly safe. A few more coffee pods (& milk) in the room might be a nice touch, it seems a little petty to only supply two when the rooms are far from cheap...and breakfast at €17 per person??!! Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Hotel Sozo is very lovely wit its white contemporary decor. The staff went out of its wY to be helpful. Breakfast are very good and the hotel location across from the Jardin du Plantes is central to the sights of Nantes. We very much enjoyed our stay and would return.

The hotel staff is extremely competent and nice. They happily told us about great sites to visit and good restaurants around the hotel. The hotel itself is very nicely located, next to the Nantes gardens and a few walking minutes from most of the town’s attractions. We were a little dissapointed not to find any stained glass in the room, as opposed to the pictures on the site. It looks like only a few rooms have colorful windows, the rest have plain ones. Nevertheless, the room was extremely comfortable and our stay enjoyable.

There're may be better choices

This renovated church boasts a starkly modern interior with nods in the form of some exposed stone, to its original purpose. Our room, which appears from the emergency diagram, to be among the largest, was adequate in size, but encumbered by its layout. Upon bing shown the room, we were informed that we could request that the air conditioning be turned on, and that we could obtain bathroom amenities, shampoo and conditioner, from the front desk. The site is next to a wonderful community park which, however, cuts the hotel off from the rest of a lively town with numerous attractions. Given our initial reception, but more importantly, it's poor location, we won't stay here again. The novelty of sleeping in a remodeled church can't overco the drawbacks. In fairness, there is much more that can be said about this property, but I'll leave that to others.

Stopped off in Nantes to break a journey from Blois to Cognac through the Loire Valley. Arrived early and found Nantes to be an understated treasure. The hotel is beautiful, a converted church overlooking a public park with easy access to the city centre by a short walk but the tram is just at the bottom of the street. there are accessible rooms and a fantastic reception area and bar. wished we had booked more nights. Would thoroughly recommend this wonderful boutique hotel for a short break in a very cosmopolitan and vibrant city with lots to do and see.

I booked a seduction room which has a view over the beautiful architecture and stained glass windows of the hotel lobby. It really was beautiful, the only observations I have were that 1) the room was quite small for the price, there was little room between the foot of the bed and the window. 2) There was a nespresso machine which was great but only paper cups to drink if from. 3) Very little cupboard space for clothes etc so our stuff ended up on the open ledges around the room. 4) The toilet had no window or ventilation and opened right by the bed 5) it is only a 15 minute walk to the centre but after a hard day sightseeing you sometimes want restaurants etc right on your doorstep which it doesn't have. Despite this it really is a lovely hotel. 1) The staff were amazingly helpful. 2) Nice having free soft drinks minibar. 3) Mugler toiletries. 4) Very clean. It was a lovely experience but when I next visit Nantes I will probably consider something nearer the centre on foot - you may not get as good a room/view for your money but probably more practical.

Very good for short-term stay. The location has the best of both worlds being close to the station and to the Botanical Park. Hotel is so nicely designed that I hesitate to mention: inadequate lighting in bedroom & bathroom; wardrobe that takes only (very) short clothes, with the safe taking up valuable space; having to take room service food (delicious) facing the wall with my back to the tv as there's no alternative to the fixed bedside table; shower having only a hand-held fitting. If these practical points were addressed, the hotel would be perfect.

Modern Nantes hotel in former chapel

Hotel Sozo, in Nantes, France, is a lovely, conveniently situated place to stay in an interesting city. The modern facilities were created within the shell of a chapel that was too historic to be destroyed. The bed was luxuriously large, with the softest sheets we had encountered on our trip. The staff were friendly and very helpful, going out of their way to make our stay pleasant.

That said, we discovered a few problems that were hard to fix. I wanted to fill my water bottle with cool water from the tap, but the water ran tepid, at least until my patience wore thin (at least two minutes). Perhaps the hot and cold water pipes were run so close together that the hot pipes heated the cold water unintentionally.

We were delighted to have a coffee machine in our room, but the electrical connection was not working. Consequently, the desk staff made us coffee in the lobby each morning, even though we were not taking breakfast there (because it seemed too expensive). A hot pot did work, and we enjoyed tea in our room, along with some yummy local biscuits offered as a treat.

The overhead lighting was dim enough that I sat on the bed beside the table lamp to read and work on my iPad. The Internet access code was specific to each device, so we needed multiples. It would be best to ask for codes that won't expire before the end of your stay.

Beautiful and comfortable

As a business traveller, main disappointment was to not be able to stay longer an enjoy the area as not much to do directly nearby (there is a park but can't enjoy it at night). The decor is beautiful! I would choose again for a personal vacation of at least a couple of nights, but not especially as a business traveller.

sozo hotel was amazing! excelllent service, the staff were friendly and helpful....suggested a superb place for a lovely dinner...and went of their way to accommodate us...even getting me a toothbrush which i had forgotten to pack...the room was charming, had character including a vaulted ceiling, it was immaculate, the bed was very comfortable and was quiet....it was exceptional!

Hotel Sozo Rocks!

The Hotel Sozo in Nantes is a truly unique place...a boutique hotel in a remodeled chapel. The décor is striking, with stained glass and arched ceilings alongside modernist artwork in the lobby. Our room was small but comfortable and clean, with more traces of the same chapel architecture. How cool is that? The service was impeccable; what a superb staff! At first glance, the location is out of the way, and it was definitely hard to find for an American like me. But we soon came to appreciate the great site, which is literally across the street from a vast public garden, the Jardin des Plantes! The garden was very lovely and safe, the perfect place for an afternoon stroll...or a meal at the garden restaurant. As for other locations, a cab ride or drive is your best bet. But I'd still recommend this place as a very cool hotel with great staff, service, and style!

A Pleasant Surprise

A magnificent job of converting a church into a hotel. King size bed, modern plugs in the bathroom, two nice bathrobes, heavy towels, all in a modern designed room. Parking right behind the building in a little courtyard. Nice breakfast. We happened to have a room
overlooking the center of the building looking at beautiful stained glass windows.
Also near the tram/bus. So very convenient. The manager of the hotel makes his own
beer and sells it.

10/10 Interesting hotel with great character

Stayed for just one night on way back to Cherbourg and couldn't fault it. Very modern, very stylish - receptionist was very friendly and helpful with recommending a restaurant for us as well as providing us with an umbrella :)
