The woman managing the place was very kind and helpful. She gave us tips for walking around the area and finding restaurants. When we had a little trouble with transportation for our cruise, she contacted a local taxi company who was there in 5 minutes. It made our day much less stressful. Thank you very much!

Was warmly welcomed by the owner, Kara, after I debarked from Royal Caribbean and walked from City cruise terminal. She let me leave my luggage and return to check in. There was no lift, but her husband was kind to bring my bag up to my room before I returned. Room was comfortable and a continental breakfast was included. Stayed two nights before getting on my next cruise. Will stay again!

Abbey Lodge for me was perfectly situated between Southampton Central Railway station and the ferry terminal to East Cowes,Isle of Wight.
I had a clean double room with kettle,tv,washstand & adjoining toilet/shower next to the room.
A full English breakfast was enjoyed in a well presented dining area.
I would happily stay there again in the future.

My daughter and I stayed here in May. Comfortable room. Shared bathroom was clean and not an issue. We did not have breakfast as we had to catch the ferry to Cowes and the starting time for breakfast did not allow us enough time to eat and to get to the port.

Reasonable Hotel

If you’re wanting a place like Buckingham Palace then this ain’t for you but for a reasonable priced guest house you won’t be disappointed.
Close to train and coach stations with the city centre shops a five minute walk away.
Landlady very nice can’t fault her at all. Breakfast was serial along with a cooked breakfast, tea, coffee or juice drink.
Variety of rooms available with three shared bathrooms. We had a room at the front of the building and the road can be a bit noisy at times, but that’s no fault with the guest house. Rooms were kept tidy and the cleaner did a great job.
This is a great location if you are coming for the Solent University Graduation day. Some ppl stay here for their cruise holidays. Some nice restaurants in city centre I’d recommend Cosmo just passed West Quays shopping centre but there are a variety of places to eat in there on top floor.
All in all I stayed four nights and can’t complain. I’d stay again if an occasion for me to come down to Southampton arises.

Unable to sleep because of Bed-bugs!!!

The place appeared clean. But by 12:30 AM, was awaken by very itchy bug-bides/lumps over the upper body (neck, back, chin, head and shoulders/arms). We got up several times to check and actually found life-black bug crawling with my blood- stained on the sheet. Not to wake the whole hotel, I suffered until morning to show videos, photos (of my bitten lumps) and the actual bug in a sealed plastic bag to the owner-operator of the Bed n Breakfast.
She acknowledged the apparent facts, but claimed it was not her fault and that it was because the room was just rented to someone from ... (a third-world country) for several days who must have brought in the bugs... We asked for a fair compensation (refund-at-the-least). She refused, but returned only a small fraction out of what we paid. We were in a hurry to \"catch-the-boat\", so we did not have the time to argue or report to the local health authority. We still have the photos and videos. We just return from the trip across the Atlantic (during which we had little time or WiFi) and intend to show when appropriate to help future travelers.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the room was nice and as expected, plus an extra bed which was convenient for myself and the person I was staying there with. Overall very pleased. Value for money. Shame about the location, but I guess it's what you have to put up with if you want to be close to the city centre.

Stay well clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have stayed in many hotels and b & b's, but I have never come across someone so rude and obnoxious in all my life. I booked a last minute room via expedia for myself, my partner and our 1 year old baby. Prior to arrival we phoned through asking if they would provide a travel cot. The owner took down our details and clearly stated that we weren't booked in to her hotel and was only waiting for one more guest to turn up, who was a single male. To my horror, I quickly went through my emails and realised I had booked three weeks away. We told the owner that we would no longer want the room, and thought no further actions was required, as we were going to pay on arrival. Three weeks later, we got a phone call from the hotel owner asking what time we would be arriving. I explained who I was and she remembered the phone call, stating that I should have cancelled through expedia. Now why didn't she say that at the time?!? Three days later I was charged by expedia for a room that I never stayed in and that we had cancelled three weeks before. I called the owner back, not to ask for a refund but to see if she could amend the booking and see if we could stay another time instead. She said if we had booked directly though her, then she could allow us to stay on a different occasion, considering that we had already paid. But due to the fact that we had used another service in which she is enlisted with, she said there was absolutely nothing she could do, which I find hard to believe!

Our stay at Abbey Lodge was excellent, the location is the most convenient, very tidy and clean room and washroom facilities, very delirious and more than plentiful breakfast.
Our host was the most accommodating, pleasant and helpful.

horrible experience.

checked in at 11, room was freezing so i asked for a heater. Was told there is no heaters available and that the heat get turned on at 17.00
Which sounds utter ridiculous! So i paid 55 pound a night for a freezing room with a horrible bed. Very dirty bed! Stains on the bedsheets and pillows. Had to resort to wrap my towel around the pillow. Worst hotel experience i have ever had!

Booked into this Hotel. Email said check in up untill 10pm. Arrived at 915 front door locked. Rang both bells for 20 mins. No answer. Rang the phone several times no answer. Left on the street on a cold December night.

To add insult to injury I have left two messages and they havent bothered calling me back to apologies, explan or offer a refund. Completely disgusted.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!!!!

Could have been good

We picked Abbey Lodge because of its location and price. We found the staff welcoming and checked in easily. Free parking outside the Lodge was included. However, the room was cold, and the heating was only switched on as we were leaving. One of the owners said that they forgot to put it on and apologised. The room was clean, and had the usual hotel setup, although pretty thin pillows if you ask me.
The next door neighbours had a 21st birthday party next door; not their fault, but then their son or some long term lodger came in with his mates at about 01:30 and started parting too. I had to go round twice to get them to stop being noisy so we could sleep. All in all, the last time I slept this badly was when there was roadworks next to a campsite. Breakfast was cooked, included in the price, and excellent.

This could have been a nice stop over, but beware the location seems to be student party land; not the owner's fault, but a significant consideration when booking.

Good find at a fare price

The location of this B&B is just perfect - in walking distance to the railway station, to the Mayflower theater, the Sea Museum and the historic area of the city. The neighborhood is also safe and quiet.
Our host was very nice and helpful. She helped us with directions to the main attractions of the city and cooked us a delicious breakfast each morning.
If you are looking for accommodation for a city break at a fare price, but still clean and comfortable, Abbey Lodge is a perfect choice.

We stayed for one night to see some family members in from a cruise. The room was comfortable and had en suite and tv. We left at 6am and didn't see anyone after we checked in. It was lovely and convenient for us we would definitely stay here again.

Comfortable and good priced B & B

We stayed in the ensuing room and did not arrive until almost 8 o'clock. However the owner was really welcoming and gave us all the information we needed. We had a lovely nights sleep due to the comfortable bed and bedding. We stayed one night before joining our cruise ship and will definately stay here again as we are regular cruisers. The breakfast was cooked really well and there was plenty of fruit juice tea and coffee.

When I informed the owner of the bed bugs, she said that it was impossible and refused to compensate us for th ehassle spent finding alternative accommodation

Adequate guesthouse close to station and on quiet street. We were only staying one night so weren't too bothered about the standard of the place we chose to stay. This is basic but comfortable. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We didn't opt for a cooked breakfast but there was that option...the choice of cereals/other cols breakfast options was limited but adequate for a one night stay.

ideal centre of southampton base, yes its not luxury, check you have booked an ensuite if thats what you want as some rooms share facilities. Walls not soundproof but we slept fine. Good value for money for visits to mayflower, sea city museum etc.

The room they gave us was very cold,we asked about heating and was told it would come on at 6.00pm. By 8.00pm no heating so we spoke to the owners who then turned the heating on.
Free wifi, we could not get on the internet all it did was buffer.
The room was clean but we had to share a bathroom that was freezing cold we could not take a shower.
The one good thing was the breakfast.

We were staying at this hotel as a stop over to go on a Cruise, after the 1st night on the Cruise I woke up covered in bites, the room was checked and found that it was clean as this was a maiden cruise. we then were advised that we could have been bitten by bed bugs these bites do not come out for 24/36 hours later, this was most uncomfortable for a few days on our Cruise

A safe haven in Southampton after a gruelling jour

Booked for my husband and son - there was a serious crash in mid Wales so they were delayed and came in really late at night 11.30 pm My husband was worried they might be turned away. Landlady was very welcoming despite the late hour and did everything she could to help them. Excellent service thank you.

It was a good location for me within walking distance of st marys for the football and local pubs and nightlife areas and only a few miles drive from two nice golf corses. So all in all a good two night stay.

Cold Shower!!

Rang the bell (5.30pm) and was greeted by a man who then immediately walked away and said his wife would be downstairs in a minute!! Needed a shower after working all day, however NO Hot Water!! Lady came to bathroom and ran the sink tap for 5 minutes with barely look warm water and said it is connected to the shower so I should be ok? Ran the shower for a further 6/7 mins Still NO hot water so had to have a sink shower?!! Breakfast was a warm to hot fry up which was placed in front of us and that was it, no interaction with guests, just asked for key. We left straight after breakfast. It felt as though once they had your money they weren't bothered about the rest of your stay!

good value for the price/location

Booked this B&B as it was close to the Sea City Museum with an amazing display about the Titanic. Possible to also walk to the historic downtown area or take a bus. Hotel is dated but the owners are remodeling all the rooms. Ours was a bit tight but absolutely clean with our own bath. Good bed, nice breakfast and outstanding service from the owners who were very gracious. Definately a value and would stay there again.

Owner was extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was great. The room and bathroom were in need of decoration, but the owner did tell us this on arrival and that they were in the process of redecorating all the rooms. Very central and ideal for our needs as we were going to the Mayflower Theatre.

Very tired place.

The room we stayed in had a double bed shoved against the wall, a bedside table, then a single bed, and beyond that, shoved under the window, was the other bedside table, a dressing table, and a chair. The room wasn't big enough for the extra single bed. I had to climb in and out of our double bed via the end of the bed, as my side was against the wall. Shower had no power, the toilet cistern trickled all night, and could be heard even with the door closed....a door that had a hole in it. Hole in the carpet covered by a threadbare mat. Uncomfortable bed. Lots of chipped crockery on our breakfast table. Would not stay here again.
