A very nice girl checked me in and she asked if I would prefer a female only room since I was assigned a mixed room. And there were only two of us for six beds.

The shower pressure was fabulous and it was perfectly heated water.

There was a fair amount of noise in the hallways but luckily it calmed down at a reasonable time.

At first I was going to leave a bad review. Now I have decided to be fair. If you need a pkace to crash for the nighy that is cheap and cheerful, thos is the one. Staff are great and the facilities are ok. It serves a purpose very well. The smell in the room was rhe other guesys. I will definitely come back again.

We feel fooled by Expedia advertisement and the hostel.
Pictures for room we ordered show a much bigger room. What we really got: 2 beds like in a prisoner's cell! I'm near a claustrophobia.
Only information the kind guy at reception could give: There are no such rooms as shown (and ordered!) at the picture in Expedia. Hotel has just one of them (# x18) in each level and those are occupied already.

Reasonable single rooms

I took a single room in the hostel. The room and lobby were clean. The single bed was firm. The bathroom was fitted with a nice shower.
There is one flight of stairs to reach the entrance. Inside there is a lift.
The smoking area is outside the entrance.
The hostel is a 10 minute walk to the main train station. Trams to the city Center are a five minute walk away.

Clean room besides some dust bunnies under the bed. Easy walk from train station and conveniently has an Aldi immediately behind building. Shared kitchen isn’t much- more of a small room where no more than two people can comfortably fit with a microwave, two burners and a toaster. Not ideal for a long term stay or any intensive cooking. Very nice staff who spoke English.

In general it was a good stay for one night but I did not like that we had to pay an additional fee ( culture tax) because when I booked I thought I paid all I need to. Also the bed linen for 3 beds was not in the room and we were told that it could be picked up at reception. To get the beds done up would have cost extra. Weird concept for a hotel ( I did not book a youth hostel on purpose). The room was clean and big enough for 5 people. One bed seemed to be wobbly and one socket with charging port wasn't working - a half \"Desaster\" when traveling with teenagers. If you need quietness to fall asleep this hotel might have too many trains passing by. The breakfast was ok. The choice was ok and you could get enough to get you through the morning. The staff in general was nice and friendly.

This is a Hostel! Just FYI when we were checking in multiple people were at the desk complaining about things which made my check in longer then should. Simple things like they provide the sheets but you make the bed is not a big deal for me but others were quite upset LOL! Parking available €6 but fills up fast but we found found free street parking around corner. Good location 1km from Downton. They have a bar and small menu at hostel. I went with wife and two kids and we had no complaints

This hotel has to upgrade the reservation system. Firstly I received keys for the room which was occupied. I received another room, but… In the middle of the night somebody has entered into my room! Reception gives keys for my room to another guests. Very strange situation… You cannot feel safe if somebody can enter to your room so easy when you are asleep.

Fairly typical a&o, standard rather simple but covering the basics. Staff helpful. Room quite small but clean, bathroom in good shape.
Location less than 10min walk from the train station although maybe 20+min walk to the inner Old town - there are trams from the train station but tend to be slow so getting to the centre of things can take a while.
Overseeing the nearby railtracks but fairly quiet in my experience - the noise risk probably comes more from inside, depending on the location of the room and people staying nearby.

Unhelpful and dirty .

We stayed for 2 weeks . The staff are generally unhelpful and very strict on mask mandates . After staying for a week we asked for new towels (which they never change ) and finally got fresh ones. I asked the cleaner for fresh bedding and was refused . Had to ask reception for fresh bedding approval which they did begrudgingly . Our room after 2 weeks was not cleaned once nor the bathroom . Even the rubbish bin was only cleaned twice a week. The hotel location is good and close to city which is why we stayed there . The room was very uncomfortable ,no fridge,no kettle,no glasses, no wardrobe just very uncomfortable stools to sit on. The lights in the room resemble prison lights . Overall I rate our stay 1/10. Unfortunately budget wise it's all we could afford even though at 47euro a night it expensive .

Good serviceable Dresden hostel near Hbf

Overnight stay in Dresden, decided to stay here due to its location 10 min walking from Hbf. Staff were deadset on a 3 PM check-in so I had to wait several hours, even though I bet the hostel was not fully booked in January. They also charge for use of the sheets, which I avoided by bringing my own blanket. That aside, the room was very comfortable with a good shower and plenty of space, even with a high # of persons/room. Location is near Hbf and a tram stop that drops you off only a block away which was very convenient.

There was a guy who came in about 23:30 and wheezed and made gawd awlful
noises till 7 AM. The was some poor Indian sleeping right next to him who could
not have slept at all. When the Indian left at 6 AM I asked him. Did you have a good
nite's sleep. I couldn't help but laugh. It was a bad nite for both of us..

We had a family room which was basic. Hard beds, super small tv, and no AC. We had to have the windows open at night but it was so loud because this hotel is a youth hostel and is next to several train tracks. The hotel had a small kids corner near the reception desk. They advertised free parking which is the main reason we picked this hotel but they told us they only have a few free spots and they were already taken. They said they have some spots for 8 Euro a night or free street parking near the hotel. There was no free coffee/tea either. They have breakfast for 7 Euro a day but we didn't try it.

Stayed here in February 2015, and decided to stay again. Our first experience was good, our second was better.
I will say this, after reading through various newer reviews before booking the second time around, I'm glad I wasn't put off and already knew better. This place is really close to the train station. Don't understand why someone said it isn't. It's along the same road, maybe a five minute walk, or less.
We timed our family's walk to our first stop from the hostel: Residenz Schloss. 22 minutes. Though it seems shorter because there is a lot to see along the way!
There is an Chinese/beergarten restaurant and two small Doner restaurants across the street, and there is an Aldi market behind the hotel (which was open on Christmas Eve morning).
Parking is simple.
You will hear the train go by often, but it didn't bother me while asleep.
This time, our six person family was given a room with a queen sized bed set up (for the two of us adults), and there were two bunk sets for our four kids. Last time, we had three bunk sets for the six of us. I didn't make a special request, I figure it's the luck of the draw? Maybe call ahead and request if you require it.
Also, this time our room had a TV in it, albeit computer monitor size. It did have CNN in English, but most channels were German. Not a bad thing considering I'm used to it. I live in Germany.

Remeber, it's not the Ritz. It's a hostel. But a nicer one. If you keep the word hostel in mind, you'll be less disappointed

O.K. but not sure I would stay again

Fairly far to walk to the Old Town - about 30-40 minutes. Room was clean but the bathroom was tiny and my husband hit his head on the radiator knob which stuck way out right in front of the toilet! The bathroom is only about 3' wide! The shower didn't drain either, so you had to stand in yucky water and then rinse off your feet when you were done. The beds were actually more comfortable (e.g. less hard) than most other hotels we had stayed at - so that was a plus. Our room was at the end of the hall and our window/view looked out at the fire escape stairs! So the view was awful, but we were there mostly to sleep so it wasn't such a big deal. It was fairly quiet, except when the neighbors let their doors slam shut at 7am! Not sure I would stay there again. I would pick a place closer to the Old Town next time.

Our family of six (two adults, four children ages 8-12) stayed a night at A&O. It was super easy to locate, and in my opinion, it had a good location. It's not too far from the city center, a nice 15-ish minute walk. The hauptbahnhof (train station) is right around the block too.
There is an Aldi grocery store behind the hotel, as well as quick eats across the street.
I was worried about parking because it didn't seem that many of the paid spots were available, but we were able to parallel park our huge American car on the street for free. No big deal, as it's a decently quiet area that didn't seem that busy on a weekend.
Check-in was easy, however, we arrived two hours early. I asked the nice lady at the desk if we could check in early, and she said it costs an extra €7.50. No big deal, but the room wasn't available for early check in anyway. I guess I should've requested an early check in upon booking. By the way, the staff speaks English really well.
For a hostel, it's pretty clean. Our room had three bunks (six beds), and the room itself was pretty big! As most hostel rooms are, this one is pretty basic. Beds, tiny en-suite shower, toilet, two sinks, and outlets. That's about it. It's not luxury living, but efficient for a place to rest after walking around Dresden for a whole day or two.
The lobby was nice and modern. The rest of the facilities were decent too.
Our family definitely plans to stay at A&O in the future.

Youth hostel with both high-school students and the retired sharing the place which was odd. Free luggage room which was locked whilst no one they knew was in there (a plus), most staff spoke English well so communication was easy. Free WiFi in shared areas which were cold as right next to the door. Never looked at breakfast. Shower room separate from toilet and in dorm room. Sockets in weird places such as up the wall. Overall positive stay. Good for the price.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It is easy to find just our the back of the station, turn left and it is a good 10 minute walk. Wifi is offered for a fee but it is dependable. There is a lift which is a must with luggage. We asked for a double room and were given a quad at the same price. Both our room and bath were very clean and adequate size. We will stay here again when in Dresden. The hotel is a good value for the price paid.

The online information did not make it clear that this hotel tries to combine the features of Hotel / Hostel / Youth Hostel specialising in student groups and school journeys. This is an uncomfortable mixture of hotel guests staying alongside over excited 14 year olds who don't want to sleep - ever! - and who spend the night visiting each others' rooms. The double room we occupied was tiny, with no room to walk comfortably on either side of the bed and with the most basic of furniture - two folding wooden chairs which took up all the remaining space in the room when in use. No room safe either :( The cost was not cheap. The shower room was fine, water hot and there was a roof top bar with a great view. The staff were lovely, helpful, friendly, but we felt conned.

Compact and Practical-- Though No Ritz Cracker.

For a short, practical stay-- it was fine. Nice, simple, clean room with all the amenities. Location good-- walking dist. to main station and centre. However-- checkin isn't until 3pm, we arrived around 3:30 and had to wait until cleaners finished-- walked in to wet floors. An hour or so later a member of staff entered with own card-key without knocking, said something in German and exited. We were slightly peeved for reasons of privacy and security. Told reception-- felt they could've been more responsive. For light sleepers-- there is some noise from trains and loud guests at night.

a hostel experience for hotel guests

First the good things about this hotel: the location is fine, 10 minutes walk from the train station, and not that far from the city center either. The neighborhood is okay. The room was fairly clean, and the staff was generally friendly and helpful. Now my biggest problem is, although the hotel markets itself as hotel and hostel, it's basically a big hostel, because, there is no air-conditioning, which is actually common in Europe, but the issue is the window doesn't open very wide, and due to the vicinity to the train station and the hostel in the same building, we could hear cars and trains throughout the night, as well as all the partying hostel guests. Our other choice is to close the window and suffocate ourselves because believe it or not it can still get hot, so obviously we chose to live a bad night sleep. Would I stay at the A&O chain again? Probably not. But it's not a bad choice as a hostel.

Our room was quite small and not air conditioned. The noise outside required us to close the window which resulted in a room that was a little too warm. The shower is amazingly small so that it is easy to his the temperature handle while trying to lather up. On the plus side, rooms are cheap and the breakfast is a bargain.

A&O City Dresden

THe primary purpose of my stay in Dresden was a visit to Infineon, where I had to do very serious business for the whole day on 6.30.2011. It was very important that the basics worked. The hotel met this need, at an affordable price. The room was small, but everything was clean and in working order. To my surprise, the hotel was also a youth hostel. A youth group of hundreds of teenagers was staying there at the same time. I was worried that they would make noise all night. However, at 10 PM someone told them to shut up quite forcefully, and there was peace. I got a good night's sleep.

affordable and clean

The hotel receptionists were friendly and professional. I arrived at 1 pm and got my keys, but they told that the room was only available from 3 pm onwards and had a separate locker room for my luggage. The room itself was tiny but the hotel was very clean and great worth for money. Unfortunately, there is no free wireless (only against fee) and the room did not have a phone for a wake up call...but otherwise, I was very pleased.

Three block walk to the train station.

This is a clean no frills hotel. Bathrooms were small but functional. Rooms are bright and cheery. No ice available in hotel or at the grocery next door.

A&O Hotel Dresden

Although at first impression the hotel appeared a little basic the quality of service was very good.

The rooms were clean and decor though not luxurious was well maintained though a
little spartan.

Easy walk from hotel took you to the tram network or a 20 minute walk through suburbia and a pleasent park to the centre.

Breakfast was good and plentiful.

The icing on the cake however was the Sky Bar which gave a wonderful panorama of the city especially at night.

The complimentary drink was a welcome bonus.

The hotel was also only a short walk from the station.

A hotel I would definitely recommend.

Cold, but convenient

Really convenient location, about 8 minutes walk with luggage to the train station. I feft safe walking alone at night in the area. I had a single room, it was quite small, but fine except that it was VERY cold. I had the heat on as high as it would go and I still had to sleep in my winter coat. *I had an exterior wall*. Overall, it's a nice enough place with a good breakfast.

Will definitely stay again!

A great budget hotel. Located in a quiet neighborhood (I was there on X'mas eve thou), and close to a supermarket. Friendly and helpful staff. The room was compact, but nice and clean. Not too far of a walk to the main train station/city center (approx. 5-7 mins), and a nice walk to the old town district (approx. 20 mins).

I only stayed one night but it

I only stayed one night but it had everything I needed including internet access which I didn't use and a hair dryer which I did. For me it was an easy walk to the train station and then to the Aldt Stadt. The breakfast buffet has a lot of options but mostly it's processed foods and very little fresh fruit. Still, it's quite adequate and better than most hotels at this price.
