We had the most incredible honeymoon at Maria Del Mar! Our concierge Santiago helped us to create an amazing itinerary and adapted for us as we made changes! They also recommended a wonderful taxi driver, Armando, who graciously took us to each excursion and offered expert advice to help us enjoy as much as possible :) Edgar, Enrique, and Sergio at the front desk were always ready to chat and help if needed. Not to mention our incredible, peaceful ocean view suite! Thank you, MDM!!

Great property - would definitely stay here again. Pro's: very cute property, staff is very nice, they do a great cleaning job, nice access to the beach, pool is good size and with warm water, a few restaurants across the street and not too far from the main restaurant strip.
Con's: Bathrooms are a bit rustic but fine. 40 min walk to the main restaurant area or 20 min taxi (because of traffic - usually 350 to 500 pesos depending on your negotiation skills).

FABULOUS hotel PERFECTLY located

Our stay at Maria Del Mar was EXCELLENT, the front desk staff were friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and taken care of. They have a GREAT team! The hotel was perfectly located away from the crazy partying and traffic in the center of Tulum but walking distance from Playa Papaya project and Azulik.

The hotel is conveniently located with many shopping and dining options, with a mini mart and a currency exchange within feet of the hotel. The restaurant on property has a beautiful view of cliffs and beach - perfect for sunrise with delicious food!! Service was excellent all around. Paco & Will helped us plan our tours but definitely do research beforehand so you know exactly what you want to do and don’t waste time like we did. Be prepared, add on an extra 1-3 hours for driving to and from activities since nothing runs on time with tourists and many activities are out of the immediate Tulum area. Lots of relaxing and plenty of liveliness and fun to be had with unique experiences available. Hope to come back one day soon!

Amazing property with amazing views from the penthouse suite. Great food at the restaurant, a bit pricey but that's Tulum for you. The staff was also very kind and helpful. One of the reasons we chose this property was due to the parking availability (very limited parking options down as you go further south) and as advertised there was tons of parking available. This property is also next to a currency exchange and convenience store which was also very nice. My only slight disappointment was the actual beach. It is a nice nook between two rock formations, but there were quite a few rocks and constant waves which made it difficult to see if you were going to step on anything or hit your leg. While we did see 1 couple go in the water via the beach, I was a bit too nervous to head in. Nevertheless, there are a lot of beaches not too far away, just a bike ride north, which give you the more traditional white sand Tulum experience.

Beautiful property with one massive issue. The hotel shares a private beach with a night club next door that doesn’t have a rear wall. They play music so loud that you can make out every word from your bed. The bass it so intense that it shakes your brain from 8pm to 4am. The hotel started construction on the room next door at 8am so we got about 3 hours of sleep. We left and went to another hotel. Staff is hit or miss. This place should not host guests as a hotel. They should close down or do something about the property next door.

The Hotel has a wonderful location on its own very private beach. We very much enjoyed being outside all day, either in the pool, on the beach or simply on a lounger in from of the restaurant. The restaurant has very good food and excellent service. We did not find anything wrong with the hotel etc,. The nightly room charge is fairly expensive which limited our stay to only 4 nights.

The streets must be done, they were horrible and difficult to walk. The area is dirty which is surprising because of the amount of shops, restaurants and hotels in the area. Certain areas are blocked for car entry by the police which is horrible. Amd no matter where you stay or visit every staff at all location offer substances. My opinion it’s to take advantage of you. Not a place I would visit again.

We even got a to watch a tropical storm with lightning which was awesome.The shower was nice and big which we love. The bed was ok for me but not very comfortable for my partner but we do tend to have above average expectations when it comes to sleep.

There are so many great things to say about this hotel. I stayed here 2x Jan 2021 and March 2021. Both experiences were amazing, truly.
PROs:
FOOD: was great and well priced compared to the rest of the beach.
STAFF Very friendly, spoke good english. Our host Ezekal was a rockstar. He was so helpful from booking taxis, assisting us with any questions. You basically have your own personal concierge and he genuinely cares about your trip and safety.
PROPERTY: its tucked away in its own private little cove. Perfect for relaxing before heading into the craziness and party at the rest of the beach. It makes for a well balanced trip. Quiet at night so you can rest. Breakfast is peacful in the morning. There is a nice size pool and service by the pool/ beach to bring you whatever you need. Be sure to go to the upstairs view overlooking the water. The rooms were clean. Spacious showers (not such great lighting for makeup, but there is a full length mirror you can apply it at too in the room w/ natural light).
The only con is traffic to the other areas, but that is not the hotels fault. However you are closer to the airport catch22. The only other thing that is a challenge is the doors getting into the room. You use an actual key that you must keep up with or it is expensive if you lose it. It takes a few days to get the hang of the door open/close bbut then it is fine.

I enjoyed our stay here! The private beach and overlook were exactly what I was looking for w/ COVID not over yet. The hotel is small, so not many guests at once, which made access to the beach chairs, cabanas, pool and seating areas ideal. The staff are very attentive. Angel at the front desk and Ezekiel were very accommodating. The only reason I rated some facility areas a little lower was b/c you have to ask for almost everything, which takes time. There weren’t enough towels and washcloths in our room one of the days after our room was cleaned and it took asking twice (which means you have to walk to the front desk or use WhatsApp to call/text) and took over 45 min. Somehow, our sliding glass door lock broke and we got locked in from the inside, which was after I noticed the door wasn’t locking and I asked it to be fixed earlier that day. That could have been dangerous. I’m happy there was immediate attention to it once we were locked in, but it took too long for something security related, esp since we didn’t want to leave the door unlocked to site see. That cost us time on a short trip. Other than that, I loved it. Folks at the restaurant were great. You’ll have to take a cab to go towards the hype part of Tulum if that’s what you want and those run $15-25 each time. Security helps you catch them during busy times. It’s a 5-10 minutes ride to Tulum ruins and tours are accessible from here. The beach and private deck are beautiful and perfect for a relaxing stay.

Some of the things that we wished would have been better include: no refrigerator to keep our drinks cool, need a key to get into your room (what if I lose it, yikes), shower water was not warm at times. CANNOT USE BEACH

Do not stay here. This should not be advertised as a beach front hotel. You cannot swim in the water by this hotel because of the red seaweed. Tulum is having trouble with seaweed overall, but it seems to be much worse at this hotel. The hotel boasts of having a private enclave beach, but this seems to trap the seaweed. It was in the water, in a huge mound on the shore and smelled really bad. In the 5 days we stayed here there was not a single person in the water. We paid $20 each way in a cab to go to other beaches during covid, and had to pay to use those beaches. Other guests did the same. The staff acknowledged this problem and recommended other beaches, but did nothing to compensate for the price of of the cabs or the inconvenience. When we mentioned this inconvenience, we were simply told it was not their fault. It was not their fault, but it should not be advertised as a beach hotel. Please look at the attached photo.

The service here was not great. Our fan broke and the hotel lost water for over an hour during the stay - no sinks, showers or flushing toilet. The food and drinks were pricey and nothing was included.

Stay somewhere else.

I came here with my best friend and celebrated my bday! This hotel is the reason why I want to come back to Tulum. The staff made our whole experience incredible. We had a beach front view. Its not a huge hotel, which is perfect. The room can use additional lighting, but I get the mood they want to keep. The restaurant next door is incredible and were able to accommodate my vegan diet. I will definitely be back! :)

Omar at Maria Del Mar was the BEST! So so helpful from the time our flight was canceled due to a hurricane and he assisted us with our rearranging our hotel stay (even when Expedia couldn't) until the very last day of our trip - he took care of us like family. Thanks Omar for making what could've been a disaster of a trip due to hurricanes, evacuating, etc.. into a one of the best trips we've ever gone on!! Highly recommend MDM, especially with having a staff member like Omar :)

Great boutique hotel!

Perfect hotel at the beginning of the Tulum beach strip. Its situated on its own little cove. Wonderful, helpful staff. There is no refrigerator, iron, ironing board or hair dryer in the hotel, however you may request iron and hair dryer at the front desk. I was working from this location and the wifi worked fine, however like most places in Tulum beach the cellphone reception wasn't great.

This hotel was absolutely amazing! I booked the Infinity Suite aka Oceanfront Master Suite and am so glad I did. The views were overwhelmingly beautiful and breathtaking. The extremely private terrace was so breezy I didn’t even feel the need to retreat to air conditioning. Includes a very comfortable and stylist double wide lounge bed and a highly romantic plunge pool. Such a well designed hotel—blends well with the natural environment. Honestly. The staff were so kind and helpful. Every staff member made me feel welcomed and catered to. Especially Ezekiel the afternoon front desk person—he went above and beyond service wise. The hotel screams Boho-chic: is a fantastic mix of Bohemian vibes and Mexican/Mayan architecture and decor. The food and cocktails were great and so reasonably priced. The entrance to the hotel is also lovely... Gorgeous lush landscaping. Surrounding the hotel on the street were multiple charming stores and restaurants to choose from (I had no need to eat anywhere else however). But you have many options. Fantastic location. The two beaches were gorgeous. Everything about this hotel was sincerely amazing. I will certainly be staying again sometime soon. Thank you for such a memorable experience—wish I could have stayed longer.

Stayed for 4 nights at MDM. The hotel itself is amazing. There is only 18 rooms on the property which means your not staying on a crowded resort. There is a nice pool, private beach and 2 different restaurants(don’t belong to the hotel) on the property, there were many times where we felt like we had the grounds to ourselves. Everything is very well maintained, great beach chairs, hammocks and different areas to sit.

Outside of the hotel grounds, the location was perfect. You are located in the hotel district and have tons of shops, restaurants and bars lining the street.

We can honestly say we’ve never had better service from a hotel staff. We ran into a few issues where a cab driver charged us more than he stated he would, and our concierge went out and got the difference back. Every recommendation was amazing and any small request we made was given top priority. I would definitely recommend staying here

The room was very spacious and just wish they provided a hair dryer. The facility is very nice too, but you do hear the construction noise next door a bit. All in all good hotel a bit further from center but can be walked or taxi for 100 pesos per trip not to bad.

My boyfriend and I searched many places to stay on our first real trip together , and so glad we chose Maria Del Mar . The grounds were beautiful, was like waking up in paradise! Independent of the hotel itself, be warned that the problem with Sargassum in the area is intense, so you will hardly swim in the sea.

Great trip and great hotel! This hotel is in the PERFECT location! The beach is really clean and they do a great job raking that seaweed! Man that seaweed is intense! Really great service while laying by the pool too! The rooms were really comfortable and chic. Love the earthy colors and materials. 18 rooms only is a plus!!! Don’t have to compete for beach chairs or anything! Front desk people are lovely and always offering a buenos días! They offered great suggestions for food, drink, day trips etc. There is a little store across the street to get your bottle friendly water and any other essentials. There is a bike rental right next to the hotel and fun bars/restaurants/shops all around. I can not say enough great things about this place. It’s for sure a hidden gem! You will not be disappointed!

My boyfriend & I stayed a the Maria Del Mar for my 30th birthday and had the absolute best time! This hotel was one of the best I’ve ever stayed in. The service was INCREDIBLE and it was perfectly located. Not to mention you practically have your own beautiful private beach which is not mentioned anywhere and should definitely be advertised. I can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff and the rooms and well kept grounds. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the food it was good but so many other excellent options outside of the hotel.

Perfect. My husband and I went in July for 5 nights. Tulum is an amazing place with tons of unique hotels, all with their own perks, I'm sure. But choosing Maria Del Mar for our 5 nights was a perfect choice. Where it's located puts you right in the middle of the ruins area and other beach access spots, and the rest of the fun strip of beach, shops and restaurants along Tulum beach. It's a quick 5 minute cab ride to the restaurants/shops/hotels (about 100-130 pesos), and cabs are a-plenty. There's a small convenience store right across the \"street\" and a scooter/bike rental place next store, as well as an excursion planning company (called COA-highly recommend using them. Peter was the best!). We walked to Mateo's across the road within 2 minutes and had the best crispy fish tacos I've ever tasted while watching the sunset over the jungle. Maria Del Mar was clean, the staff beyond friendly and accommodating and the grounds are gorgeous. It was never so crowded that we did not get beach chairs or a cabana bed (free), and beachside service was awesome! Each room has a portable bose speaker to cart along with you to the beach or pool, should you want to play your own playlist. Hammocks and upper deck ocean view swings were always available. We left our kids at home, so the no children rule suited us just fine. The private cove of beach that you have access to while staying there was beautiful, and never packed. I ❤ this place so much!

Amazing staff, GORGEOUS hotel

Our stay at Maria Del Mar was nothing short of amazing. The staff was incredible and the hotel with it’s ocean views and hippie vibes was mesmerizing. Our room was extremely clean and comfortable and the restaurant at the hotel offered great service. I also highly recommend a massage at the spa and a bike ride to the ruins!

Ezekiel is the best!

We’ve been to many places in Mexico. This was our first time to Tulum. We love good food and great relaxation. Mission accomplished! The concierge made sure we had everything we needed at our fingertips. The only draw back on our trip was the seaweed on the beach. We couldn’t get in the ocean because of all the seeweed. I guess this happens every few years. We just picked a bad week.

I was shocked at the amazing experience we had at this hotel. I had booked our other nights and paid about $400 per night for the other places so I was worried this hotel, only costing about $160, wouldn't be as nice.
When we got there they directed us to the nearby parking lot and someone immediately came and got our bags from the car. They brought us welcome drinks that were delicious. The room was large, had the best ocean view and the all important AIR CONDITIONING! The bathroom was large and we loved the rainfall shower.
The hotel had a great location and we ended our night going to a bar right across the street that was really large and popular. The pool and outdoor amenities were so high end and you were able to get full views of the beach.
We sat on the beach and the staff came out and took our order and brought us our drinks/food. (Something that our other $400 per night place apparently didn't do). The restaurant had great food.

I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was here! We will definitely be going back!

We had originally booked our stay in Tulum next door at Bejuco which ended up becoming permanently closed during our stay and had to relocate our hotel reservation. Luckily Expedia was able to set us up at Maria Del Mar. What a blessing in desguise! Maria Del Mar was beautiful, I loved the blue accents throughout. It was attached to Mina restaurant and all the Del Mar guests were able to get 10% off at Mina. Loved the drinks and appetizers. The room was very clean, loved the balcony over looking the pool and rain head shower. Mattress wasn’t the most comfortable and there was only a top sheet/small blanket for linen but I think this was pretty standard at the other places we stayed at in Tulum. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach but Maria Del Mar had a pool so I honestly didn’t mind. Loved the private areas to lounge that includes hammocks and swings! The restaurant was walking disntance to Kin Toh, Habitas and many other restaurants and bars. Place to rent bikes across the street and parking if you have a car. I would definitely stay here again, thank you for your accommodations and for making the end of our stay in Tulum so great!

I reserved three rooms for my wife and me, our son and his wife and our daughter and her husband and 1 yr old daughter. When checking in, the hotel said they would not accept children. I found another hotel for our daughter and her family. The owner of Maria Del Mar, who has a one yr old living on site, indicated she was sympathetic and would provide a partial refund through Expedia minus fees. She instructed me to request the refund through Expedia at which time she would pay it. I requested a refund, and Expedia contacted MdM who rejected it. When I contacted MdM, they claimed they never got a call from Expedia. I tried again by giving Expedia the direct number for the manager of MdM. MdM once again rejected the refund and has not responded to my last email. The owner has not honored her word to provide a partial refund which says something about the character of the people who own and run this hotel.

Also, the beach had a three feet high, 20 foot wide pile of kelp which made it totally unusable. If this is a seasonal event, they may as well shut the doors in April and May as it is a complete waste of peoples' money who expect to enjoy the ocean.

Maria del Mar, Lovely Tulum Boutique Beach Hotel

Great location on the beach in the hotel zone in Tulum. Expensive, but we had a large Junior Suite which was all that was available as we booked late for February. Had trouble with our A/C not working & they put us in another room for the night & fixed it the next day & refunded the night to us. They really went way beyond! Our room was beautiful & spacious & you could hear the ocean. Great location. Nice pool, beach bar service, very nice! Not good swimming right in front of the hotel, had a private cove which is great since it's private for sunbathing, but for swimming it felt like the ocean pulls you out to sea. To the left over some rocks was a more public beach area where it felt safer to swim. Not far to go. VERY friendly staff especially Ezekiel and Pepe. Food at Mina was delicious although pricey. Lots of beautiful people staying at the hotel, very European. Fun to people watch! Great bartenders at Mina. No coffee or breakfast included, so we went across the street to the Creperie, which had excellent coffee. Wish there were more couches and hanging out areas in the restaurant. Took morning yoga ($25/class, everywhere else $15) OK teachers, their mats were dirty. Beautiful spot to do yoga overlooking the sea, but be prepared to not listen to the teacher & do your own practice! Rented bikes from the hotel which were much more $ than renting bikes directly from the bike shop to the left of the hotel. There was a safe place to lock the bikes. All in all would recommend!!

Nice hotel on the beach - cool staff.

Really enjoyed my stay at Maria Del Mar. Had a room with ocean views and enjoyed the sounds of the ocean all night long from my very comfortable bed. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly all-around - housekeeping, the servers and bartenders at the restaurant, and especially Gina at the front desk and Ezequiel the concierge. The location makes it very easy to bike to either end of the hotel zone or into the town. My only complaint would be that the actual beach you can access from this property is quite small. The entrance to the water and swimming area is actually not as good as other parts of the beach, but if you're just looking to chill in a lounge chair and take a dip every now again, it's good. There are lots of beautiful, and well-situated places on the property to enjoy - decks, hammocks, etc. I recommend!

Gorgeous hotel, wonderful responsive staff

This hotel was really wonderful. Great location, and very very clean. The staff, both at the hotel and at the restaurant went above and beyond to make sure everything was comfortable. The concierge is so friendly, and by day 2 knows your name, and is there to answer any questions you have. The little shops attached to the hotel are very cute. Some hotels have great pictures online, but when you arrive they are never as nice as they had appeared. This hotel is even better in person. Another thing to keep in mind, is that many of the hotels in Tulum have this intense techno music playing all of the time in their common areas. Maria del mar does not do this, thank god. There is also plenty of seating by the beach, because the hotel is rather small- so you never have to worry about not having somewhere to sit.

Perfect spot and nice beach cove!

Really enjoyed the stay with Maria del Mar. The staff is what really makes this hotel shine. They are personable and friendly. They will help you with anything you need. Along with the staff, the hotel itself has a great location on the Tulum Beach. The hotel has a cove just shared with two other spots - so it isn't as busy as the regular beach. It is also really great receiving the breakfast every morning at Mina. Overall, I highly recommend this spot but wish I could keep it as a secret gem.
