Had a three night stay at this hotel from December 30/2025-January 2/2026.

To properly review this hotel it needs to be divided up into location, breakfast/room (amenities) & staff.

Let’s start with the location. It’s perfection if you like to be in the middle of it all. It’s off one of the main streets in the city centre. Tons of restaurants, bars, attractions, etc. Transit is there & it’s a 15 minute walk to the water & more attractions. Beautiful location if you’d like to maximize your time in Lisboa.

As for the room, it’s not great at all. ZERO amenities, no mini fridge, coffee maker or other typical amenities. This is a VERY old building & it shows everywhere. Elevator is super slow, poor room security (no peep hole or adequate locks) is lacking, bathroom is old & needs remodeling, very old cabinets & lighting. The bathroom plumbing is so old, the hot water slowly fades as you use it! On the 5th floor there is an old balcony that I was very hesitant to use based on how unsafe it looked.

The daily breakfast (extra 25.00€/day) was good but not great. Hot coffee with eggs & a protein. Some pastries were also available.
The staff was very nice & worked hard to accommodate this guest. We did reward them by way of tips for that assistance.

Every hotel has it pluses/minuses. This hotel has a couple of pluses & many minuses in my opinion. If I ever find myself in Lisboa again, I won’t be staying at the Metrople Hotel!

Check in was a breeze. Reception located on level 1 (\"street level\" is level 0.) To get to street level elevator you have to negotiate several steps, so there is no handicapped access. Elevator is small. Room keys are physical keys and tou get only one. Staff are very very nice and helpful. I give staff 5 stars. The room is relatively large with ample room for at least 4 suitcases if needed. There is a large closet, large TV, a small refrigerator, more than ample drawers to store clothes, 2 nitestands, a King sized bed, 3 chairs a small bech for a suitcase and a safe. The staff will give you a lock to the safe if you ask for one. Bathroom is small with a shower stall and a sink, and toilet. The water pressure is variable, and when taking a shower the water can sometimes get hot or cold, but seems like the longer you are in the shower, the less of a problem it is.
The included buffet breakfast was good.
The hotel is near a grocery store, lots of shops and restaurants and walking distance from many attractions. We did use ubers and taxis at times. Tuk-Tuks are too expensive, in my opinion to use as taxis.
So in summary the biggest ding would be the varying water pressure while taking a shower so I give this place an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. In any event the staff are super. I would come back to this hotel if returned to Lisbon.

Amazing location but needs some TLC in places

The hotel is in a wonderful location and the breakfast was very good. We liked being able to open the windows to step out to balcony and look out over the square. The night view is stunning!
The carpet in the room made us feel like you had to leave your shoes on at all times (stain3d or dirty) and the beds were very hard and uncomfortable. For one night, it worked out ok for us, but would not stay for extended period.

We had a wonderful view from our front facing window. Check in staff were helpful and friendly. Bathroom was huge with GREAT water pressure, but no where to sit our toiletries. My one big complaint were the ants in the room. I woke up in the morning and found at least 20 in my bed, more on my shoes next to my bed, more on the table next to my bed. I let the desk know when checked out, they said they would make a note. One thing to know if you have accessibility issues. The elevator is after one flight of stairs.

Paid for a room that didn't exist

We arrived at the hotel having already paid in advance for a 2 night stay. On arrival we were told that there was no room available. Presumably they had sold off our room to a higher bidder. They had booked us an alterantive room in another hotel which was over 4 miles away! Nothing we could do about it. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour by the Metropole hotel.

Totally loved this hotel. Right in the square. It can be a bit loud but that didn’t bother us. We loved being in the middle of all the action. Super comfortable beds. From the unique entrance to the front desk was the ambiance of the twenties. It takes you back to the 20's with irs decor and furnishings. Greet by the wonderful in a courtesy manner and friendly manner. Room kept ro the theme of the 20?'s and cannot say enough about the staff and how accomadating they were. Very clean hotel rooms and every area of the hotel. Breakfast was great and tasty. Cannot say enough about my experience withis place. Will be back again.

This hotel is in the perfect location, right on Rosso Square. We were able to walk to most of the sights, and perfectly located for using public transport.
The staff here are amazing, they do a great job, and are friendly and helpful.
The building is old, and needs some work, but the rooms are still clean and comfortable.
If we return to Lisbon, Metropole Hotel will be our first choice for accommodation.

Hotel Metropole is situated right next to Rossio Square convenient to events, shopping, attractions, tours, transportation and dining. It's just a little antiquated since they must've preserved the building structure. The service, crew and breakfast is excellent but the only thing that bothered us during our two-night stay was the AC that hasn't made the room a bit colder and that we have to open the window to cool down. Thank you. We want to come back!

The Metropole is in an excellent location, on Rossio Square. Our room was large, a king sized bed, with balconies over the square…It was not loud. My only two not perfect marks are the stairs up to the lift landing to get to the lobby….tough depending on your luggage. Also the breakfast was unexciting even if the coffee was good.

Our room did not have AC. I called down straight away and was told that it would be turned on. A couple of hours later I called back down as it was still quite warm. I was told it would be addressed. 2 minutes later, I got a call back that the AC was not working for our room and that we could change rooms. We were already in bed and set up so that was not a reasonable option. The next morning I was told that there was no AC on the 5th floor as they are transitioning the system from heat and that the person I spoke with should have known that. I asked why we were put on that floor if the AC wasn’t working. The person at the desk had no answer. The supervisor was not in. I honestly believe that when you book through a third party, you are not treated with the same respect or given the same level of service. Twice now I’ve not been happy with rooms booked through Expedia. I was shocked as generally Holiday Inn is quite good. I asked for my money back and was told I would have to email the supervisor once back in Canada.

The property did not offer air conditioner even though they advertised it. It was 80 degrees hot and at night time it was impossible to sleep. They came up with the excuse that the air conditioner takes time to kick. I stayed 5 nights and it never did. In day number 3, they offered me a fan.
The rest of the amenities were good and staff too but air conditioner is a basic amenity in a hotel as expensive as that.

Really nice hotel in a brilliant location for bars, restaurants, transport, etc. Aceesed by a small wntrance door on Rossio Square.Good breakfast available on the recently decorated first floor. Had a standard room overlooking the small street at the back but hardly any disturbance from noise. Room and hotel kept nice and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent value. I would definitely stay here again. My only issue was my room was cold. I had a room overlooking Rossio plaza and the cold air would come through the windows. I had the thermostat set as high as it would go but was still cold. Other than that everything was great. Staff are very helpful and the location can’t be beat. Loved this place and would like to come back! We stayed here on a long lay-over in Lisbon. The location was great for exploring some of the major Lisbon sights on foot. The room was HUGE compared to other rooms we've had in Europe. Our room overlooked the Plaza and the Christmas market. Despite the street below our room was quiet. The breakfast was very good and plentiful.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff is very nice, and very fluent in English.

We had a balcony with a beautiful view. We could see the Sao Jorge Castle on the hill. Nighttime was especially beautiful.

There are a lot of little cafes on the square, which we enjoyed. Getting around is pretty easy, and if you need transportation, Uber is quick and public transportation is readily available. That was a big plus for us.

It's an older hotel, but nice and clean. As long as it's clean we like an older place because of the feel of being in an old city.

It didn't bother us, but if you're sensitive to noise that could be an issue because the square can get quite noisy. In fact, we enjoyed overlooking our balcony to see what it was all about.

The only other con is that the breakfast isn't great, but it was good enough to get you started for the day and it was included in the stay. If you want to go out for breakfast the cafes serve breakfast/brunch.

That said, we really enjoyed it and I highly recommend it.

The hotel needs a bit of upgrade as its bit out of date but this way has its own charm. WiFi was good👍

Centrally located in a flatter part of the city so easier to get around for people with mobility issues. Room was spacious and clean and looked like it had been refurbished recently. Hotel provided gluten free bread for breakfast which was really appreciated. Had a comfortable stay here and would definitely stay again.

We had the best time!

Hotel location was perfect. Walking distance to several historic sites, close to shopping and restaurants. Restaurant directly next to hotel was FANTASTIC (I recommend the lasagna). Walking distance to night life district and water front.

Complementary breakfast was nothing special but delicious nonetheless. A great way to start off the day!

The room had everything we needed including a fridge, safe, vanity, and toiletries. The shower was a little unique and challenging, but not a problem once I got accustomed to it.

Staff was amazing! Cleaning services took place daily, changing sheets, and restocking complementary water and toiletries. Front desk staff had the best suggestions and advice. Even going as far to plan and schedule a trip to Sintra for us (and other guests).

Overall the hotel is older and “historic”. Nothing fancy, but that is exactly what we were looking for. Perfect for anyone who plans to spend the majority of their time out in the city.

Room I booked was for a “Double or Two Twins” beds. I emailed the hotel requesting a double bed. They didn’t promise anything as I assumed request fulfillment depends on availability and demand, but they took note of the request and upon arrival already had a double bed ready for us.

Hotel was undergoing minor renovations during our stay, which is very exciting! I will be looking forward to seeing the results during our next stay.
