We just returned from a wonderful stay at Playacar Palace. Staff, facilities and food was incredible. Location is great - walk to Cozumel ferry with free access to Cozumel Palace hotel - just show your Palace hotel bracelet. Resort credits were very helpful for spa and dolphin swim. Only downside was the lack of beach but everything else made up for it.

This was a very poor experience. The hotel did not honor our booking. We were supposed to receive a room with two queen or full beds. We were told on arrival that that room type had been oversold. The only room available was a king (we were a group of three). They tried to position it as a “upgrade” based on the view. I declined the upgrade and ask for my reservation to be honored. The hotel declined. They said there was room to wheel in an extra bed. There was not. They ended up jamming a small, uncomfortable cot. We would have left, except we were meeting family also staying in the same hotel. I have taken photos of what we received compared to the marketing photos of what was promised. The experience was absolutely unacceptable. I will never go back.

Very clean hotel with gorgeous views. Absolutely amazing food and exceptional service!
Be aware- there is NO beach in front of the hotel!!! From the stairs of the hotel pool you walk straight into the ocean. We were a group of 24 people with small kids. It would be fair to be aware of that situation.

When our taxi pulled up to the hotel we thought he had come to the wrong place. I guess that was wishful thinking. The pictures absolutely do not represent this hotel. Everything is outdated and tired. They should use real pictures and not airbrushed or photoshopped. If you are used to staying in 5 star this is not it. The staff was very nice and the dinner we had one night there was fine.

We had issues with our flight which in turn we kind of got scammed on transportation. Resort public relations went above and beyond to help us and made things spectacular. 100% going back

We had a great time at Playacar Palace! Room was lovely- we got an upgrade to full ocean view. Staff is amazing, so friendly and accommodating. Food is delicious- my only note would be I wish the buffet was open every night, sometimes a dress up dinner is too much. Pool is fun, activity directors are great. I do wish they had more night life- things are pretty quiet by 10 pm.

There was some impact from the seaweed problems in the area, but the hotel had workers/ trucks out there every morning working like crazy to clear the beach. By the end of the week it was much better. It is out of their control, unfortunately, but they are on top of it.

My family went on many excursions and this is a great location for a home base for adventures- or if chilling by the pool is your thing, it’s great for that too! I feel like it’s smaller than some resorts, but I liked that! Highly recommend!

5th time visiting will be our last time !

Food very limited, beds not that comfy, internet access seemed fine, from the moment we got there we felt like things have gone downhill, we bought attention to the guest relations of several issues a/c not working calls every morning at 8am knocks at the doors at 8:30am even after telling them not to call us early they continued. Felt like as a smoker we was targetted many times. Sat on our balcony with security 5 feet away trying to make out we was smoking when we was just enjoying the view. I spent 5500 on this hotel and after the first day we requested a refund to move hotel the guest relations will tell you nothing they can do to help even tho there was sick in the pool I refused to let my child go in the pool for 3/4 days because all they did was bucket out the sick no closure of the pool to clean it properly and lied too about what it was floating around. After this we tried to get a refund again to be told no no no. All we wanted was to move to a sutible hotel which our kids could enjoy. The only thing keeping this hotel going is the servers at the pool and pool food area., silvia and Perla are the most beautiful humans and will do anything to help make your stay a pleasant one. Shame the hotel has gone down hill so much. Dirty pool all the time tiles falling off every where paintwork old and outdated if I was you I would look at other hotels as this hotel really let its self down and how ever much you spend there they will still not help you if problems arise.

Is a really good all inclusive resort right beside Playa del Carmen city center and the dock from where the ships depart to Cozumel island.
The best is the food and the whole staff.
The less is the amount of amenities the hotel offers.
The hotel is quite small so besides the pool, there is not much to do.
Luckily for us, our plans were to visit Xcaret theme parks.
And another not good part of the stay is the presence of sargazo sea weed that made the beach unvisitable.
All and all is a good place to stay and our is experience was really good.

Great food and service!

I’ve stayed at a few different all-inclusive places on the Riviera Maya and when it comes to food and services, Playacar Palace was top of the list.
Pros:
Smaller size all-inclusive
A-la-Carte restaurants food and service top notch
Cafe has delicious treats and drinks
Beach restaurant has delicious menu and a pizza oven outside
Drinks aren’t too watered down
Staffs are amazing!
All rooms have some sort of view of the ocean
(We stayed in the walkout suite oceanfront and it was amazing!)
Near 5th Ave shopping area
Near Cozumel Ferry
Family friendly
Cons:
Buffet options were good but lacks variation from day to day
Only one single pool that stretched from the kiddie pool to the pool bar
Even though beachfront but depending on the season is covered in seaweed and can’t really be enjoyed. (I commend all the hard workers who start their day trying to clear the beach of the seaweed but Mother Nature always prevail)
Overall, I would highly recommend this resort and will definitely stay again but maybe when it’s not seaweed season 😂

Very nice small resort conveniently located. It is a block away to the port to go to Cozumel. Food was EXCELLENT! and staff is very friendly. I wish the pool was bigger. We went to Cozumel palace ( sister hotel) and spend the day at the beach and pool there.

It started upon arrival , we booked two rooms for room of 3 adult and two kids and the front desk gave us two separate rooms in the opposite direction of the hotel and refuse to give us two rooms next to each other or same floor/section. He offered me that for 570 additional dollars.
Second: the smell was terrible throughout the trip, the main area had no air conditioner so it was not a place to sit or enjoy the evening
The beach was not accessible due to how dirty it was , first day we woke up on the noises from all the workers cleaning the beach using machinery
If I book a beach resort, the expectation that i can use it and if it is not accessible then the hotel should provide an alternative at no cost , that didn’t happen
The offered beach club here and there but all with extra cost including asking me to pay for the taxi
I decided to do it so the kids can enjoy the beach, that was a process of 4 hours to get to a beach club in cozumel and after paying for all inclusive entry that did there was mediocre
The food was average , the rooms were old, the beach was inaccessible and over that , I kept getting asked to do this promotion or that promotion
The one bright star in the strip is lady by name Elvira (in activity desk) who was the nicest Persian ever and she even gave us 7 dollars and 50 pesos as our cash was not enough for the cab and ATM credit card didn’t work.
Over all it was a terrible experience , this resort should be closed and Expedia takes it off its list

Great resort, terrible beach in summer

The Playacar Palace has a great location near Playa del Carmen with easy access to shopping and the ferry to Cozumel. The food, drinks and staff are top notch. Rooms are comfortable. All common areas except restaurants are open air so it's warm and humid most of the time - could be a plus or minus depending on who you are. The worst thing about our stay in late June was the Sargassum algae/seaweed. We know it's always bad in this area in the summer, but the stink creates an ever present odor and of course the beach is impossible to swim at. Because this hotel sits so close to the water, you get a lot more effect from the sargassum than at other properties, like when we stayed at the Moon Palace properties. We took a day trip to Cozumel and there was no sargassum issue - if you want to get on a beach, that's the only way. We felt bad for a wedding party taking photos on the bit of sand not covered with a large pile of unsightly yuck right behind them. While we really enjoyed out stay, I'd try the Cozumel Palace in the summer instead - there's no beach, but no sargassum issue. Effectively the Playacar Palace has no beach in the summer and suffers from bad smells and unsightly red brown nastiness covering the water and sand. Put this property on a clean beach, effectively Cozumel Palace, and it would be amazing!

We had such a great time, the food was delicious, our room was super clean, all the staff were super nice and welcoming.
Eric, ingrid and Perla at the pool, Ivan at Madre Mia restaurant, and of course the people who had our room nice and clean every day.
Location was super convenient since we were just close to the ferry tp go to Cozumel and 10 minutes away from Xcaret.

Catch the ferry to Cozumel, or take a tour to Tulum which is less than an hour away.

The service was exceptional, the entire property was impeccably clean, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout our stay. We had a wonderful experience overall. The only downside was the presence of a large amount of sargassum on the beach, but of course, that’s a natural occurrence and beyond the hotel’s control.

I love the location but most important it is the staff is so polite and welcoming all the time.
I hope that in the description of the oceanview rooms, they would mention if balcony is part of the room.
The beach is getting eroded but it is not hotel problem but climate result.
Love the staff, the quiet ambience, shows at night time and walk around hotel. The food in the restaurants was fantastic

The pool closed early, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, the pool bar was still closed. The only VIP benefit we received was a room upgrade. Otherwise, the service at the facilities was average.

Excellent property the only issue was the beach which is small , very close to playa del Carmen pier and full of algae,also we couldn’t enjoy at one of the top restaurants since was booked and we couldn’t go with kids . Other than that everything was amazing , personnel very helpful, the coffee in the small cafe at the entrance was amazing as well as the crepes, in the main dinning we were well care by the restaurant manager , he prepared a taco night and parrillada night for my group , hotel is less than a block away from 5th Ave in Playa del Carmen shopping street. In summary , strongly recommend

I have come to realize, reviews can be helpful in choosing a resort, however everyone has so many differing opinions and what's important to one person may not be for another, so my review of this property is based on what I found important for my family: cleanliness, accomodations, safety, food, and to truly enjoy the vacation without worry. This reality is small, however that wa what I wanted, we didn't want a resort that took five days to explore just to find a restaurant or a pool. This property was perfect for our family and even after 6 days we still found new hidden gems. This property is clean, we've stayed in properties that are not so this was a big plus for us. Other reviews stated the rooms with two double beds weren't big enough for a family. Well we traveled with our two teenagers (17,16) and the staff made sure we had a king bed with two roll aways for each kid, which was super accommodating since I have a son and daughter. The proximity to the shopping center was great, and the security on the property put our minds at ease, even though this wasn't a huge concern, I'm just an overly anxious traveler. The buffet food wasn't our favorite, overcooked meat and items were cold, si order food from the flat top grill, it was fresh and hot. The breakfast buffet was our favorite, the sweet/coffee shop in the lobby was also hands down our favorite, great coffee, crepes, and even lunch sandwiches. #2 pool snack bar for quesadillas and nachos, room service was also great.

Property is a bit dated but is due for renovation this September we’re told. Very clean. Staff are ALL incredible. Helpful, kind and very friendly. Pool is a fun low key vibe, bars are well stocked. Special restaurants are all very good. Our favorites were the Momo hibachi and Trattoria Italian. Honestly the evening buffet could have more options, but that truly was our only complaint. Breakfast in buffet was always very good and the snack shack by the upper pool bar had great options.

The people are so nice there. It does help to know a little Spanish though. Of course tipping helps. While they will change your American dollars to pesos there at the hotel, I highly recommend bring them with you if at all possible for shopping and what not. Much easier. Get up around 7am to put your towels down at the pool and go back to bed if you want. Food is to die for! Great activities around. Shopping is within walking distance and so is the ferry. I highly recommend this resort.

Our stay was lovely. The activities are wonderful with staff that really provides fun….yoga, pool volleyball were great. Daniel the head of Wellness is superb, professional and super fun. The buffet was great offering food that is fresh (fresh grilled fish) and many options. The restaurants are lovely as well. The spa is definitely a 5 star experience and stunning.
The hotel is the closest right next door to the town center and super cute outside mall and boutique shops. If you are looking for expansive beach this is not your place as there’s little beach area in front - however amazing to sit at the pool overlooking the sea - and the beach water is easy to access and lovely.

Yes, this is an older property located just steps from downtown. Not a brand new, giant hotel. Smaller, more quaint and you get to know the staff quickly because of this. The rooms are nice. Very clean. Staff is the seller, they are wonderful and SO nice. I thought the food and presentation was great. They were working on misc. deferred maintenance/wear and tear (especially the exterior) while we were there. Painting, stucco, etc. Sadly the beach has pretty much washed away right in front of the hotel. This is not there fault and is happening in many places. You are just steps from downtown shops, so I liked that.

great hotel but it's a timeshare!

It was a beautiful place, very clean, good food, great service however it is a timeshare. The resort $$ they give you to spend costs you money regardless of what you spend it on. The spa services are ridiculously expensive and you can only spend some of it on those. The store you can spend it at only has knockoff things you can spend it on. A beach bag trying to resemble Armani and they said it was $200 and it cost me $32 of the \"fee\". Hotels.com needs to not provide $$ resort.

My review on this resort would be very long. But to sum up, I would not recommend this resort. The people are awesome. But the timeshare atmosphere is thick. And aggressive. Vacations are to be a way to relieve stress.
Also, the seat around the pool issue is not small. Due to the timeshare, all of the good pool chars are taken. And will be held all day, even if no one uses them.
So, the rest of the folks who are not \"diamond\" timeshare members, it's a hassle every day.
Halfway through our trip they started to enforce the not holding of chairs. You had to be there to maintain the chair.

And, as we left, there was another uninvited timeshare/offer.

If the place was amazing, maybe I could overlook the timeshare pitches. But it wasn't. As for the food, it was good. Just good across the board. Other than desserts, that were way better than other resorts. Rooms were clean and nice size. Again, all of the staff were great. Just an awkward building.

What I liked most about the resort was that it was smaller so everything was so accessible. The food was fantastic especially at the a la carte restaurants as well as the pool side restaurant. The beach was incredible. The one thing that I wasn't a fan of was the diamond members being able to reserve pool side chairs and umbrellas and sometimes not showing up until noon or not showing up at all. Also, the only thing that was missing at the breakfast buffet was a toaster. Ither than that, everything was great. I would definitely return in a heartbeat. Also, the palace resorts app made any request so easy and staff were very prompt.

Picked this resort for my birthday trip and I am so glad I did. The property is beautiful. The view from my room was amazing!! The staff had the best customer service and made us feel so welcome. This resort is all inclusive and all of the restaurants had delicious food. When I came back to my room on my birthday, there was a piece of cake and champagne. I will definitely return to this resort!!

Good size for us, you were able to get to know the staff. This is not a gigantic facility which we liked. The staff were great, friendly, helpful, very attentive, specifically the service staff and activities staff, specifically Eric.
Plenty of activities to break up the day to keep teens & adults busy if you were not planning to leave the property. Very good restaurants also with friendly, helpful staff.
The rooms were nice, except for the size of the beds We are a family of four with teenagers and the beds were doubles. We assumed we could get a rollaway and they did not have any. There is a huge tub in the room that takes up space. Would make more sense to see a pull out couch or queen beds. Everything else in the room was great. Large shower with separate sink area. I would recommend this place to others. Thank you

Service was great. Front desk check-in process could be quicker. Great smaller property with nice beach and pool. Enjoyed with four other families and lots of pool volleyball and activities. Entertainment was great. We went over Christmas week. Can’t go wrong with palace. If I could change one thing it would be queen beds. :) thanks!

It is a compact property.I was very disappointed at first since we always stayed in bigger resorts.However I find the resorts to be somehow boutique resort.
Good restaurants option and great coffee shop however it is lacking on night entertainment.
Very close to 5th Ave.Room was clean.Expedia VIP is a joke.
Overall recommended.

We had a great experience overall. Very courteous and attentive staff across the board.

Jacuzzi in the room when in use leaked water on the floor
Shower drain positioning on the floor doesn't seem to gather the water...leaves a puddle of water on the floor in which you end up standing.

Some room for improvement, but great overall.
