Beautiful hotel and right there on the beach. I went for a quick get away with my mom and we both loved it, the balcony had a beautiful view of the beach, we were half a block from the quinta avenida and had beach beds included. Galia and Renato are both lovely. To be honest the only thing we didn't love was the bar tender's attitude when we asked him to lower the music level (at 9 AM on a Monday) and his food and driniks in general (he literally was listening to the radio but blasting it and said if he lowered the music, it was going to be empty, except we were the only clients and once others came most were elderly Americans, I was literally the only person under 40, but once we raised the concern with higher management the volume and quality improved. We only had food there once and it wasn't very good, but it is so close to La Quinta Avenida it doesn't really matter. Also a shout out to Jose, both me and my mom had a massage by him and my mom reckons he healed her from her chronic knee pain! As a last advice it would be nice if rooms had some sort of sofa to sit in as the bed is literally the only furniture in the room but overall we think it is amazing value for money and a great hotel!

We had a wonderful time at Capital O Mimi Del Mar. The new management are working tirelessly (and I do mean tirelessly) to improve the facilities. The staff were attentive and accommodating. The hotel is right on the beach with chairs ready for you to relax and spend the day watching the pelicans dive for their lunch.

Upon arrival, the front desk, staff seemed really annoyed that we did not speak Spanish. The gentleman was very rude and rolled his eyes in annoyance,at his coworker we asked for room with an ocean view, instead, even though the hotel had several unoccupied rooms, they brought us to the back in a dark hallway and put us in a room that had windows overlooking garbage in the backyard, walked into the room. The room looked very rundown and not very clean. After travelling 6000 kilometers. and several thousand dollars we were not willing to accept the room so we rejected it and ended up staying at the Playa Palms hotel even though we did not have a reservation. They were very pleasant to deal with and very receptive and happy to help us out. even gave us free continental breakfast.

The hotel is very nice, charming, and a great value for the price. It’s in the perfect location right by the beach and just steps away from 5th Avenue. We loved walking along the beach and especially enjoyed walking 5th Avenue at night. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, always greeting us with a smile and even helping with our suitcases. Just a small note: it can be a little tricky to find at first since it’s right on the beach and there’s no direct parking. We had to park in a nearby lot and carry our bags down. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we would definitely come back.

I checked in and 1st i had to pay a cleaning fee for each day ahead of time but unless you hand over your key they can't get in supposedly. Which is a bit uncomfortable. Also the bar only accepts cash while ever other place on the beach accepts cards. I also had money taken from my safe and shown that there was extra keys to my safe (when they were trying to prove the opposite). The wifi would go in and out regularly at night. Could happen during the day too but didn't hang out in my room. I won't be back to this hotel again.

The room was very run down, had ants, and the base from the music was incredibly loud. It was so noisy that we left 3 hours after we checked in and went to another hotel. We were given a wrong key to start with and told to keep our wet towels rather than get new ones. All in all, not a great experience.

It was an absolute terrible experience the room was dirty we had dead roaches by the mini fridge and in the bathroom. Towels and linens were dirty. The hotel looks absolutely nothing like the pictures. The entrance is only through the beach side and the area does not look safe at night.

I feel bad for writing this because the staff that we interacted with were nice and friendly. Unfortunately, the place was not as we expected. First of all, the only entrance is through the beach. You have to walk in sand for a little to get inside. No big deal. The room looked different from the pictures. The walls and the floor looked dirty. There was a heavily stained and disgusting plastic table in our kitchenette. No kitchen sink or counters. The fridge wasn't even plugged in when we arrived. The areas in the bathroom were separated with these cement half walls that really didn't feel clean. There was no soap dish, so we used the ashtray instead. No shampoo either. Overall, the property seems old and not clean. Not for the faint of the heart.
The location is pretty good, but I wouldn't go back.

The hotel was almost impossible to find, they don't have any parking available, the room was moldy, smelly and old. The kitchen fridge was broken and old, the shower had hairs, mold and rusted items. The towels and rugs had holes and were smelly. The staff did not even asked why we were not staying any longer as planned. The hotel does not want to refund any amount paid. This is definitely a scam!! I will never use Expedia to reserve anything anymore since as a Travel Agency they should take some responsibility for allowing this to happen. So very disapointed!!

It’s a very simple room. Bed is fine. The clean lady does a good job but definitely is a room just to go back and sleep.
They are front beach, and as someone had prevIously mentioned, you will need to do few steps on the sand to get into the property. (Make sure to come from Calle 4 NTE). Which can be a bit annoying when you are using sandals and not going to the beach… like just going for a dinner.
The location is great, but I’d choose next time the properties around… I thought I’d have advantage for staying front beach, but they don’t offer any lounge chairs (as you might see in the pictures), and there’s a big massage tent in the front of the hotel… so you don’t have any space for lay down.

The hotel is situated in a convenient location, beach front and a block to 5th avenue and a few blocks to ADO bus and the ferry. Lots of lounge chairs in front of the hotel for sun bathing. Staffs are very friendly.

However it's lacking some basic amenities. The listing shows the standard room includes a kitchenette but the actual room only includes a mini fridge and just a empty space where the kitchenette should be in. There was no shampoo or condition so we have to purchase our own, it only comes with 2 bar soap.

The hot water didn't work for a couple days, they did fix it in a timely manner. But the wifi haven't been working in our room, I've heard that it's been like that for over a month and is still an issue. This will be an issue if you don't have cell service in mexico.

The air conditioning also started to not blowing cold air for us for the last 2 days and we have to open the balcony door and window for fresh air.

Overall, this hotel needs some TLC. It's got a lot of potential as the view is amazing even from our balcony.

To start, this hotel is located at the end of Calle 4 not 14th. Access is off tbe beach. Good location with great ocean views. Hotel itself is a bit run down - half the lights didn't work and light switches were grimy. Otherwise, it was mostly clean and comfortable. Staff is great. Food was okay. Drinks were delicious. Beach massage is totally worth it. Note, there is a club beside it so you can hear the bass until 3 am. I was happy with my stay, but wanted to give an honest review. I would stay again but not if i was looking for quiet.

I really enjoyed the view. I had the balcony ocean view room. The balcony was 30 feet away from the beach. It was a spectacular view. The beach was well maintained with soft white sand. Very enjoyable. It was worth every penny based on that alone.
There are some reviews that mention deficiencies. They are mostly right. There is a night club next door and the music can be quite loud. The facility is older and a bit run down. The room was not especially clean. None of these issues bothered me and I really enjoyed my stay. Would absolutely stay in this this room again.
Keep in mind this is not a luxury hotel so the view and the beach is the highlight. It's also in the heart of downtown Playa Del Carmen and surrounded by shops and restaurants. Good location for anyone interested in the night life.

Stayed at Mimi del Mar for my Birthday in August 2024. We have been coming to Mimi for around 10 years, and return mostly because of the outstanding staff. When we arrived we found the owners daughter and her husband running the office and the familiar office staff gone. The menu increased significantly and business on the beach is much slower. The surrounding places seemed much busier. The familiar staff that are still there are struggling because they rely on tips and no business, equals no tips. Moral is low amongst the staff and a disagreement between new management and the head of housekeeping, who has been there around 30 years, resulted in her being sent home and our room not being cleaned. Hopefully the Owners will make a change before the staff is forced to leave from lack of income. Very sad to see this small gem on the beach changed like this.

The hotel was hard to access with rolling bags (we needed to carry them through the sand for half block under the sun).
The front desk doesn't have any private room or designated space where you can put your bags if you arrive early and can't check in yet. They just left them in the lobby and it did not feel secure.
There wqs a lot of people just next to the hotel, drinking and being loud, so the place is not somewhere to just chill, as it is a bustling area. The beach bar had music on until late ( Sunday) and a lot of drunks, most of them were not from the hotel.

This hotel felt more like a hostel with private rooms. We thought it would be nice to stay here because it had beachfront, but that was maybe the worst part.
Initially we booked to stay there twice ( we were planning on going back there after a small trip to Mérida and Tulum) but after seeing all this, we just canceled our booking and found somewhere else.

The staff are amazing and the only reason i go there the building is falling apart and there is no proper room maintenance or building maintenance. All beach loungers and chairs are broken and multiple are stacked just so people can use them without falling through. The Capital O Del Mar is a little hard to find if you go by Google maps as to get to the front entrance you have to go down a side street and on to the beach. The room was small but clean, needs to be updated, mirrors had black spots on them, stove only one burner worked etc.
Location is great close to bus hub, ferry terminal and the main shopping strip and right on the beach. The beach is small and crowded at times.
Right next door is a beach club that played loud music until 1:30 am.

Buyer beware.
Overall the place is on its last leg and long overdue for a little it a lot of TLC.
Note: the pictures look great but don’t represent the poor conditions.
I’m okay staying in rustic rooms and actually enjoy the experiences. This place needs repair to get to a @ruatic” level.
The inside was dirty especially the kitchen. I can’t tell you if anything works other than the mini fridge.
The water went out twice, once during the night and again in the late morning as I was leaving.
The location is good because it’s on the beach. The downside of the beach is the kelp/seaweed cleanup bins are next to the hotel so it smells like low tide.
Also, there’s a bar 150 ft from the hotel that played bumping thumping until 3 am.
We ended up leaving early because enough is enough.
Again, buyer beware. The pics aren’t accurate, the beach overlook room has potential but needs TLC, and it’s noisy (not the hotels fault).

The staff was so nice. The man who gave us our key at night was so sweet and helpful. We requested a room on the first floor as they do not have elevators and we were on the hugest floor and they accommodated us. The drinks at their bad area were delicious and the shrimp ceviche was amazing. The restrooms do need a bit of work but over al a great view to the ocean. **you do always have to walk through the sand to get to your room but I did not mind it.

The property is nice. It’s is old inside. Plastic lawn chairs to sit on the balcony. Shower door would get stuck and fall and water from the shower sprayed everywhere’s inside the bathroom when we showered. You can however spend a beautiful day at the beach sitting in their beach lounge chairs and you get one towel per person for the day. Outside bathrooms were not kept clean all day. Front desk man wasn’t very friendly but the night guy was and he was very helpful. It’s an ok place to stay if you’re not going to spend a lot of time in your room.

Great location on the beach. Room was very nice and patio view of ocean was perfect. Downfall night club is next to building so you will hear the music till 3 am. Wore ear plugs everynight. We wanted to be on the beach, that’s what this hotel offers. Beach chairs, towels and umbrellas are provided. We were only in the room to shower - great water pressure, and sleep - the bed was comfortable. The beach bar had good food and drinks. Walk to hundreds of restaurants, shops and bars. We just got back from our trip to Playa del Carmen. Stayed at Mimi Del Mar mainly because of the location and the fact that my brother was looking for an affordable option so we all decided to stay together and booked our stay at mini Del Mar. We were a group of 9, 2 teens 7 adults. We reserved 4 rooms. There are positive things I can say about the hotel. Location is the top thing it’s literally right on the sand. It was great waking up to the sound of the beach and walking steps to the sand as well as after beach days being so close to your room is definitely a plus. The hotel is not updated and does need major updating. At no fault to the employees there of course. The employees are all so sweet and kind. They are very hardworking and make you feel like family. Cleaning lady awesome! Manager kind lady and the man that takes care of the the place literally day and night (seriously when does he get a break? ) he’s amazing! So sweet so happy always so kind and helpful. He keeps watch at night and made us feel safe at night. The downside is definitely the newer club next door. If you’re a light sleeper don’t stay here we slept well but it goes on all day and night the club music is annoying. It would be nice to just be at peace instead of having to listen all day everyday to same beats same music. The owner needs to come more often to Mimi Del Mar! The staff need him to fix/repaid/remodel. If it gets a face lift it would be a thousand times more pleasant. Close to Everything!!

We love this hotel as we have stayed there before. The staff are amazing and the location is perfect. Good food at the restaurant. The only downside is they opened a loud beach club that blasted electronic dance music until 2:00 and sometimes later. Completely ruined the peace and quiet of the place. If you stay you will need earplugs to even try and sleep. Unfortunately as long as the nightclub is open I will not return

Great location in the heart of Playa del Carmen, front beach club, free long chairs for hotel guest. Ideal for couples, friends or solo travelers. Not fancy, but very convenient. There is a kitchenette with mini fridge, a small electric stove to cook (pot, pan, plates, utensils, cups, glasses), coffee maker and a blender. Air conditioner works.
The hotel is very close to ADO bus terminal and ferry to Cozumel.

The employees are very nice and kind. It's helpful if you speak basic spanish words. It's ocean front, so a few steps from the beach. It has a snack bar does offer breakfast and some drinks which I really appreciate. Also a security named Rosendo, is very nice. It has kitchenette and Wallmart is only a few blocks away. It's close to Starbucks, 7-eleven, currency trading outlets, ADO terminal, Ferry, terminal, clubs, etc.....

Just some quick info, this is not a high end type of hotel. The entrance and reception desk is at beach access. This is sort of a budget, secured, concrete structured building with some touch of nature. Will I recommend, YES.

Although this place is right on the beach it still has to be a one to two-star hotel (motel more like it). There is no internet as advertised. You have to go to the front desk area to get wifi. Also, the bed was as hard as a rock. Upon arriving, the attendant was asking me to pay an additional $25 a day fee. I said absolutely not because Expedia gave me a total with taxes and fees. I left after one day, but because the hotel was crappy, but because the beach was horrible. The hotel is called Mimi by the locals, not Capital, it's on the same street at The Hard Rock.

This property is ideally located on the beach in Playa del Carmen. I have stayed here twice and will again. Staff, service and accommodations are perfect for family or couples getaway. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Price is great and the location is great. Do yourself a favor and book Mimi Del Mar today if you plan on spending time in Playa. It’s not the Ritz, but it has everything one needs to relax during your down time in Mexico!

Crapy, rude, dirty hotel

To get to this expensive crapy hotel you need to wakl 4 blocks from the nearest garage. You have to walk across the beach to get it. The front desk guy very rude and top of the rate i got from hotels.com they charged 30.00 more dollaras. Dirt, noicy, to much light no toiletries. This is the 3rd time I book from Hotels.com and every time booked hotels of 4th category. Don,t wast ypur money there areuchnbetter hotels and better prices.

Great small property right on the beach. Food and service are incredible. As with any hotel, the staff and service are what keeps bringing us back, and here it is second to none. They all treat you like family!!

Nice place, bad customer interaction.

Nice location on the beach. Looks beautiful. Tiny pool is cool too. The rooms look better in photos than in real, but little overpriced for the overall feel. I was charged higher than what was showing in the Hotels.com website. It also showed Breakfast included when I booked, but when I got the email, it had a higher amount charged and that too without breakfast. So I had to pay extra for it at the property. The reception is not so friendly.

The room pictured was much larger than the room I was given on arrival, and I was there for a week and was told no larger room was available for the week!
Nice to be right on the beach, the cleaning staff was very nice, the food service was the beach was good.
Also upon arrival had to pay an additional "beach cleaning fee for each day!

The pros are it’s on the beach (small beach). And location to 5th Ave is good. Pretty clean too. The bad is we booked a king but were told no kings were available upon check in and got a small bed. The bed is the HARDEST bed I’ve ever felt. Seriously felt no better than the floor. A bit high in price for the quality we got. The pictures on Expedia are not what the rooms look like at all. Not a super horrible choice for a one night stay (depending on price) as you could find a lot better for not a whole lot more, but will not stay here again.

Mimi is a great place to stay right on the beach for the price with an OLD Mexican feel. The staff is fantastic. The rooms are clean but OLD and the superior rooms are spacious. The biggest cons: you have to drag your suitcase across the beach to get to the office and since the beach has eroded the beach chairs and massage tables add an extra inconvenience

I liked that it was right on the beach. I liked that it had beach chairs and a bar right on the beach for a great price. The stairs leading up to our room were solid but one had a weird tilt to one of the steps. The AC was good to have and the kitchenette was minimally stocked but at least we had a nice working fridge. The shower in our bathroom leaked water out into the toilet area which was annoying because our bath mat got soaked each day but not a major issue. The view was blocked by a huge palm tree but a good view none the less. Unfortunately the area was under massive construction due to work being done everywhere so there was always a slight smell of sulfur that came and went. Overall, it was a great place to stay and the massage tables out front are well worth the price!!

It started out not good. The hotel clerk couldn’t get his credit card machine to work and wanted us to pay cash. We said no and started looking for another hotel. He finally called someone and the tried talking him thru using the machine then finally someone brought a new machine to him. The hotel was ok there was no shampoo in the room and when we asked we were told it was because of the virus. Doesn’t sound legitimate. The rooms were nice but very dated. We will stay somewhere else next time.

You are literally on a beautiful beach. The food, beer and drinks are reasonably priced. The coconut shrimp are the best. The wait staff is very good and they are genuinely nice guys. I can’t wait to go back.

We enjoyed staying at Capital O Mimi Del Mar. It is a little confusing to get to at first since you have to go to the end of Calle 4 and walk across the beach past a condo building to the lobby. The hotel is unique, The kitchenette area is rather old and not appointed too well. The staff was very very friendly. The room details said it had a smart tv and we didn't have one, the hotel manager was gracious enough to swap out the old tv for a smart tv. Overall we'd go back.
