The location for the hotel was great, resturants and shops close, nice to have a pool, the rooms were run down, the breakfast is a slice of toast and butter and jam, unless u pay for eggs, most of the staff were very nice and accommodating and the walk to the beach is just 2 blocks away,

One of the rooms was unclean, with blood on the bed, walls, and doorknob. The staff claimed it was likely paint, but it didn't look like paint. There was broken glass on the floor (not safe for our kid), and the staff refused to inspect it or replace the room. We were relocated to another room for just one night, but we'll have to return the next evening. Deciding that the hotel didn't seem safe, we checked out and searched for another hotel. I won't recommend this hotel to others.

Staff was hit or miss. The morning shift front desk was not friendly, however, Gabby the cleaning staff was very kind and greeted me by name every day. Alejandro, the afternoon front desk worker was great and friendly.

The mattress was old and very uncomfortable and the bathroom was also very old. The shower leaked and sprayed everywhere when turned on.
The noise level from the street echoed through the main corridoro on the first floor. I would not stay here again.

It was a good cost effective place to stay while waiting to transfer to our booked resort. It is in walking distance to accessible beaches, shopping, and entertainment. If you do not want an all inclusive resort, but want an affordable place to stay for a holiday and just need a place to put your head at night, this might be your place. There are no safes to keep valuables in the room and the doors to the rooms are not the most secure.

the front desk at the hotel were rude
the toilet was leaking for 2 days. once they fixed it started leaking again. i asked them to give me another room. they said all of them were full which was a lie because most of the room next to me were vacant. so i asked for general manager to talk to. they told me he is in meeting at 12pm
one hour later the guy in front desk told me i have a room in second floor i told him i am disabled he said there is nothing i can do for u. i was really mad and unhappy:(:(:(

Avoid BALAM Hotel, Playa Del Carmen at all costs.
This place is disgusting, filthy, and dangerous. Cockroaches everywhere, stained sheets and towels, a broken child-sized toilet, and a “pool” that’s just a dirty tub. The photos online are completely misleading.

When rain poured through my ceiling at midnight, the staff didn’t care — the guy just took pictures while my belongings got soaked. The replacement room was just as bad, with what looked like blood stains on the sheets.

I didn’t sleep a minute and left first thing in the morning.

Do yourself a favor: stay FAR away from this hotel. It is gross, unsafe, and a total scam.

Motel like style in the US. Good clean rooms. Not so great clean outdoors furnishings. Good for 1 or 2 nites if you're only want to sleep. Poor breakfeast experience. Some hostels are better. Overwall did what I wanted, 1 nite stay, convinient location, cheap. Cant take coffe mug to room. You get what u pay, dont expect much, but works for some. It did for me. 5 star to cleaning lady and the male staff member front desk. Good stay if you dont mind the above.

A tile fell off the shower wall as I was bathing. Scared the crap out of me because it was rather big. I had to gingerly pick up the pieces so I wouldn't cut my foot stepping out of the shower. Management didn't seem too concerned when I told them. Bed was hard. Wifi was nonexistent in my room. A/c worked great & the pool was nice

This hotel was exactly what we were wanting! The location is wonderful, located next to so many different shops and restaurants in very close to the beach. Rooms are basic but clean. The rooms are only $25 a night so the price is awesome if you’re coming here expecting all types of amenities, you will be disappointed. We are used to staying in budget hotels so this is exactly what we were looking for! The breakfast is toast, juice, and coffee, if this is something that is not to your liking, there are plenty of other breakfast restaurants around this hotel. The rooftop pool was awesome. We had the whole thing to ourselves every night. We would definitely stay here again please don’t let all the other negative comments. Stop you from staying here if you’re wanting a budget friendly hotel in a great location than this will be the hotel for you.

Balam Playa is a basic hotel, as expected. The hotel is kept very clean and it was quiet. Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating. Location great.

The furnishings were old and uncomfortable, and in some cases in bad repair. The pool is small but well tended. The pool furnishings, especially the lounge chairs, were in rough shape with old torn cushions - not really usable.

The room itself was ok. The beds were super hard and one had a spring sticking up in the middle. The built in bedside tables were ok but the bottom shelf on one was broken and unusable.

The bathroom was functional. The shower was the worst. Broken shower door with chunks of glass missing, the tracks didn't work properly and difficult to move. The water was very undependable. Very low/slow pressure, took several minutes for the hot water to get there, but when it did, it got super hot (difficult to control temperature - either super hot or cold). The last day, there was no hot water at 8 am. In fact, the hot water was just cutoff and no water came out at all.

We had one issue with a blown lightbulb in the bathroom, and staff very quickly replaced the bulb, for which we were thankful.

One staff member got very angry with me for borrowing two glasses from the kitchen (there were none in the rooms).

The amenities in the room were limited - extas included a bar-sized fridge, tv (your own streaming accounts req'd), air conditiong and ceiling fan. No extras in bath. Wifi worked well

There were cockroaches in the room and the bathroom... I mentioned it to Sandra, the manager, and she did nothing about it. She ignored me. I sent her the text and the photos. She got angry... and I just stayed quiet... SHE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT TREATING THE GUEST WELL.

The room had very dim light and some of the hallways and stairs were unlit. The pooll was unlit. I told the clerk about the light and he said they were aware. The door to bathroom was off one of the hinges. Toilet barely flushed. I had to use a bucket. I would not go there again

The date of check in we arrived late the area was secluded and the building next to this hotel had a notice of legal closure due to human trafficking. My first priority was my family safety which both Expedia and the hotel disregarded. The hotel was dirty, the ac was not working most days and there was no hot water. The experience was horrible

Llegamos y había un anuncio de clausurado, pero aún así estaba en servicio, el hotel es limpio, muy bueno si solo quieres ir a dormir como nosotros, la TV con cable no funciona pero, el internet si está cerca del portal maya y la quinta avenida, además había unos tacos bien buenos en la plaza de en frente
Cuando llegamos había como 4 personas y cero nos atendieron bien, ya cuando hicimos check in hubo otra persona que si fue súper amable

This hotel is appaling, filthy, noisy, stained sheets and no covering at the bathroom window. Uninhabitable.
Travelocity should not have this hotel on their site, nothing was as advertised and we had to move hotels, which cost a lot of money, but hey, I guess TrVelocity got their commission, so stuff their customers.
Not once have Travelocity got back to us about this hotel, so my advice is STAY AWAY

This hotel had banners and stickers stating that it's \"clausurado\", this means that the authorities found reasons to shut it down.
They are still conducting business in an illegal manner.
They check you in through a little window and make you go to another building where the room was smelly and filled with dead bugs.
Didn't stay there and money wasn't refunded.

We did not spend much time in Playa, it was just a quick stay. The location is good but housekeeping could work a little on dusting the bathroom door & sweeping floors. There was a little sand in places. Also, the shampoo didn't lather, maybe it was eco friendly. Generally it was satisfactory for the price.

Lastimosamente se me perdieron mis auriculares dentro de la habitación y supuestamente nadie entró, no me dieron respuesta y era una comunicación entre ellos que menos confianza me generó. Adicional el desayuno pan con jugo y café, los huevos los cobran a parte. Las instalaciones muy feas y no hubo ni empatía ni amabilidad por parte del personal para ayudarme a solucionar mi pérdida. The only thing that was not accurate is the impression of a private beach from the advertisement picture (you have to walk a block and the beach is public).

The \"noise\", sometimes at night from a club nearby mentioned in some reviews exist, but is minimal, or non-existent other nights. Bring a couple of $0.50 cents soft earplugs and you won't notice it.

The place was clean, safe, accessible, and close to the action, but not on the busy street, I saw people working on maintenance every day, the room was cleaned only when I left the sign \"clean room\" on the door, which is expected.

The property was central to many things, and restaurants, laundry services, convenience stores were all within a block or so. There was a nearby club so if you are a light sleeper bring earplugs. The hot water takes a long time but that's not an issue if you do cold showers to wake up. Overall good value if you value location over other factors.

No hot water, you can hear outside birds singing all day and night but gets terrible around 4 in the morning waking you up without getting any rest. No hot water, no internet connection as specified on their hotel description, see through curtains so everyone passing by can see inside your room, no amenities, a motel would of been a better choose than here. We asked the hotel staff to help fix the hot water issue and was not fixed, we asked to see if we can have a different room and were ignored. No house keeping, we went for an all day tour and we were hopping to have the room made and at least soap to shower and the hot water fixed but we didn't.

we had black mold on the closet wall and the window in the bathroom was missing the glass so noise was bad but I had ear plugs, and if someone wanted to get into your room it would be easy to use a credit card to open no dead bolt locks, everything you need is close by including beach two blocks away.

This property is very close to 5th avenue and there's a lot of little local restaurants really close that are absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this hotel to most budget travellers BUT with a caveat: there's a night club a half block away that plays obnoxiously loud music that shakes the walls of the hotel until after 3am. If you are in Playa to party, this hotel is for you, if you're there to relax and get any amount of sleep, it might not be your best option.

Il y a une piscine sur le toit de l'hôtel.. cest ok pour ce rafraîchir. L'accès \"privée\" à la plage est correcte aussi ! C'est la plage publique que nous avons accès. Les restaurants et magasin sont littéralement a 2mins a pieds !! Parfait pour ce promener de l'hôtel au centre ville a pieds.

Al llegar no encontraban mi reservación, al final y después de esperar lograron darme una habitación, muy poca luz, mucho ruido externo, hubo una discusión entre empleados, otra noche un pleito entre huéspedes, el desayuno realmente es café y y pan tostado si quieres huevos tiene saque pagar $59 extra, mtyvimos que destapar la regadera con un palillo para que saliera bien el.agua tapada por sarro, un foco no servía bien de pronto se apagaba en el baño tomamos la suite deluxe, y bueno por último los pájaros hacen mucho ruido caída la tarde y al amanecer, eso no es algo que pueda controlar el hotel solo para que sepan.

Le banc de toilette de ma chambre était trop petit et devrait être changé. La poignée de la porte était brisée et devrait être changée puisque même si la porte était barrée, en tournant vers la gauche, elle s’ouvrait. Je m’en suis rendue compte qu’au moment du départ. La piscine malheureusement n’était pas bien entretenue pour avoir le goût de s’y baigner. Au déjeuner, il devrait donner 2 rôties plutôt qu’une seule. Un micro-ondes pour les clients devrait être disponible dans la salle à manger. Un peu de peinture dans la chambre ne ferait pas de torts. Mettre quelques cintres disponible serait un minimum pour accrocher nos vêtements. Le lit était confortable mais il n’y avait qu’un drap pour se couvrir. Une couverture très légère serait souhaitable. Le personnel était très gentil dont Alexandre à l’accueil.

Las fotos que estan en la aplicacion no son reales, nada que ver con la realidad, el lugar esta sucio y viejo donde hasta pulgas y chinches hay en las camas
No me pude quedar allí y me fui y ahora hoteles.com se quiere quedar con mi dinero, yo pagué a la aplicación de hoteles.com y no me quieren devolver mi dinero. Son los responsables de verificar que los lugares que tienen en su pagina esten aptos para dormir
Exijo mi devolución ya que hasta tuve que gastar dinero n medicinas para las picaduras de las pulgas y chinches

le personnel était vraiment gentil mais la chambre laissait à désirer… c’était pas surper propre, la porte de douche toute brisée et pleine de moisissure, les murs sont sale, le frigo est super sale, le ventilateur avait tellement de poussière que je n’osais même pas le faire tourner, et juste un drap pour s’habiller c’est mince en titi….. la terasse et la piscine c’était bien et l’emplacement de l’hôtel est juste parfait !

El hotel carece de limpieza al llegar la taza y el lavabo estaba lleno de pelos como si se hubieran rasurado y dejado ahí todo, en nuestra estancia tuvimos problemas con la chapa, chapas que son muy sencillas para la seguridad de la habitación, la ubicación era buena pero si necesita tener más limpieza en general la habitación y tal vez remodelarlo

La habitación no es lo que se ofrece por medio de esta aplicación, no tenía secadora de cabello, la regadera no tenía puerta así que toda el agua se salía, no había un tapetito para secarse los pies, en 7 días de estancia jamás hicieron la limpieza de la habitación, al informar esto en recepción, me dijeron q tenía q solicitarla, lo hice y aun así jamás la hicieron, por lo tanto ahí estuvo la basura de 7 días, porque obviamente tampoco la sacaron, se acabo el papel higiénico y les molesto darme otro rollo, las toallas estaban manchadas y rotas, las sábanas también manchadas. No pido un servicio 5 estrellas o diamante, pero al menos los servicios básicos y la limpieza de la habitación.
Lo bueno que tuvo es su ubicación, ya que está a tan solo dos cuadras de la 5ta. avenida.

En lo demás dejan mucho que desear, les falta atención al huésped y a los servicios que ofrecen.
