1. The room was in terrible shape. We had awful water pressure in the shower with almost no hot water. The shower leaked badly...all over the bathroom floor.
2. The room safe was broken so we were unable to secure our valuables in the room.
3. The selection of food in the breakfast buffet should have been better. You should add scrambled eggs, toast, home fries, sausage or bacon, a selection of pastries, fresh fruit, and a selection of cereal. The selection of food in the buffet was geared more toward Mexican guests and not toward American or Canadian guests.
4. The air conditioning unit should have adjustable vents so it wouldn't be blowing cold air on guests when they are in bed trying to sleep.
5. The ceiling fan did not work. We would have turned off the AC and used the fan overnight if it had.
6. The only good things we can say about the room is that the bed was comfortable and we liked the location. Unfortunately, because of all the negative things listed above, we will not be returning to the Hotel Portonovo.

The pool and the rooftop mezzanine were closed. Black mold in the shower, I had a room with no outside windows and no closet. The elevator didn't work the majority of the time, not ideal for travelers in their 70s.

Our room 103 was in poor shape and did not have enough towels, and no face cloths. Shower floor was in poor conition and
nshower head not in a good position. There should be a drop off and pickup spot at the front and back of the hotel. Parking would be a bonus.

I was on 3rd floor. Totally renovated, nicely done. No balconey rail so was not allowed on balconey. No hot water in my room the entire 4 days i stayed! I had to shower in a first floor room! Breakfast is very good. Once renos r done, i believe it will be very nice. But get the hot water up to third floor!!!

Like where do I begin??? First of all when I booked this place I was not told there would be Reno's going on from 9 am until 10:30 PM daily with jack hammers and drilling banging etc. Secondly one of the reasons why I booked this Hotel was because it had a pool. I have a total of 4 knee replacements 3 on left knee and 1 on right knee. I needed the pool to keep my knees exercised. The 3rd and 4 th floor was completely closed off. The first room I was in was so dark and like a dungeon and the card key would not work half the time and had to keep going down to the desk and having it re activated between 2 -4 times a day. They kept accusing me that it was my Cell phone. I did not even have my Cell phone with me on this trip. Plus there was a lot of mold in the shower and on the ceilings and walls. I had to go buy bleach to kill some of the mold. After a week
of dealing with it. I demanded I be moved to a different room. So the second room was better but still mold on the ceilings and in the shower. Plus the Patio Door which I was on the first Floor did not have a lock on it and would not close properly. I was very nervous that someone could jump up onto my patio and get into my room. I was told by the Receptionist that the Hotel had sent out Letter to all the booking Companies stating that there would be Reno's going on so I feel Hotels.com did not inform me on this matter otherwise I could have booked elsewhere. Very disappointed and totally wrecked my whole 4 wk. holiday.

The staff were all wonderful they did everything in their power to make sure that we were comfortable!
We were very disappointed that the pool was closed, as that was on3 of the main reasons for booking there. The location made up for it, it was exactly the location we needed to suit us!

When I first checked in, they put me in a room that was absolutely awful and told the pool was out of order. I called in to request a hotel change and was told that wasnt an option but was given an upgrade.

The new room was nice but had just had renovations completed. I had to put batteries in the safe and the remotes. The floor was still under construction and there was noise all day and well into the night. Also, the elevator only worked half the time and there were no handrails to walk down 3 flights of stairs. The breakfast is decent but the breakfast room is under construction so enjoy trying to find a spot in their 6 tables off the lobby and sitting in folding chairs.

This could all be forgiven except for the absolute lack of any decent customer service. The front desk staff is actively unpleasant, none of the porters speak even one word of english nor know how to smile, yet stand there looking for a tip and the vibe at this place is not one of welcome.

I spilled a bright colored drink and used a towel to clean it and they charged me for a towel, Which was understandable until they charged me 400 Pesos for a crappy white towel and held my room key hostage until I paid.

After spending the week at a similarily priced hotel 2 blocks away I know that this isn’t the standard. I will NEVER consider this hotel again and will actively not recommend. Not sure how they got such a good rating to start with because they sure didnt earn it from me.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Property could be better maintained and rooms need more maintenance, but overall it felt like home. Breakfast was delicious and enough variety (eggs, coffee, beans, meats and some mexican dishes, fresh fruits).
Staff was great too.

Best part was the location. Steps away from beautiful beach, good food was right around the corner and everything was convenient.

The safe did not work. The showerhead was tuck into a small corner with no water pressure and limited hot water. Walls are super thin, and can hear the cleaners and neighbors walking down the hallway and slamming doors. Wifi was given but the connection was non-existent. The beds were ok.

The customer service was excellent. Cesar is a wonderful doorman and deserves a raise as do the rest of the staff. The free breakfast was very good, especially the fresh fruits.
Beyond that the top 3 floors were under renovations, we didn't have access to the pool on the roof, due to the Hurricane in October. The wifi was choppy, tv was broken, our view on the balcony was blocked by construction equipment. There was metal rod sticking out of the floor, shower needs some work, and it would be nice if there were mini fridges in the rooms. The AC was very good n cold. We also stayed 8 nights and felt extremely safe.

Property was in poor condition. The pool was not functional. It was so dirty you couldn’t see the third step in the pool. It’s dark and gloomy in the lobby area. It’s on the main street. The traffic is extremely noisy and I made loud noise from the traffic. The bathrooms were a little dirty. Upon arrival the balcony door scrapes the floor and makes a really no noise to go outside to the balcony. Unfortunately, I will not stay at this property again overall, the property needs a maintenance clean up.

Only 2 issues. They only provide 2 bath towels but we were 2 adults 1 child. There were a lot of roaches. I let the staff know and they advised me to keep windows shut and took care of the problem immediately. The staff was so awesome the food was amazing. Even the guest were amazing. I had the best stay ever. It’s the perfect location and affordable and so many things right outside the hotel to see do shop etc.

I hated this place from check in. If it was more than 1 night i would have left. Check in staff was not bilingual, and kind of rude. Our bellhop was good and tried his english and helped with my Spanish. It was the smallest hotel room i have ever seen with the smallest bed ever. I dont know if it was even a double. The pool was so dirty i didnt use it, and you couldnt see through the glass on the rooftop patio. Shower door didnt shut and got water All over the tiny bathrooom. Sheets had stains. No pool towels... ugh!

Nice break from the northern cold

Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Asked for a quiet room. First night we were given a room in the front side of the hotel. It was too noisy for us from traffic, very early in the morning. Changed to a room in the back (ocean side) for the rest of our stay. Quiet and pleasant. Beds in both rooms were comfortable. Air condition was good but created a musty odor. Shower stall was big but the placement of the shower head (in both rooms was located beside a corner beam) made it feel tight. Breakfast buffet was good, fresh fruit and eggs, juice, yogurt, sides. Coffee was not available prior to restaurant open hours. Bottled water was provided for the first day only. The hotel is located 3 blocks from Malecon, close for nice walks and far from the blaring music of the bars. There are various restaurants and coffee shops in the area, research the travel blogs to find one that fits your taste and budget. Mcds and Starbucks for coffee and ice cream for the boardwalk stroll. Clean attended washrooms (10 pesos) available. We did not have a car, walked the area. The bus system is good, but needs some knowledge in order to be used effectively.

I booked this hotel as I had stayed there before. They had a good breakfast and an elevator. The elevator was important as I was having hip problems and breakfast was served on the top floor. Elevator was out-of-order. No handrails in the stairway. No wardrobe or any other means to hang up clothing in the room. I will only stay here again if the elevator is repaired. In the meantime, their Expedia listing should remove the fact that they have a functioning elevator.

Very nice breakfast!

There was some mold on the walls and you could see that the woodwork had not been properly cleaned - doors, headboard, etc. The bathroom was always cleaned well, which is important to me but the whole room needed a deep clean. The balcony door was difficult to open and very noisy, which was unfortunate because I had to go and sit in the one chair out there or go to the roof for internet. The breakfasts were very good, with the best chilaquiles. They were drier and not as saucy as usual and I loved them. The restaurant staff were very nice. The lady who sat at the back desk in the foyer was very nice and helpful. I would probably stay there again, because of the location and good breakfast, as the price was right.

I would recommend this hotel anytime, amazing location, walking distance to the Malecón, night clubs, and all the amenities, friendly staff, We arrived early for checking in due to flight arrival at PVR, we were able to leave our belongings secure at the hotel until we were all check in, the guys helping us with our luggage and were helpful, thank you for the complementary wine bottle. next day early morning had breakfast included with the room stay. kudos to the staff for the warm welcoming. Highly recommended to anyone.

Upon arrival we were told our room was on the second floor, and that the elevator was not working. What’s more, breakfast would be served on the fourth floor, still no elevator. Our room had a city view as we were told. It overlooked a very, very busy Street which was often very noisy. Be sure to bring earplugs for night time. The shower stall was not completely enclosed, and water leaked out onto the floor and behind the toilet. The beds were very comfortable and the closet was adequate although there was no dresser. The room key card failed every day and had to be re-keyed. The food for breakfast was complete and good, Actually excellent. Staff was pleasant and helpful to get our bags upstairs.

I love the location, two blocks from the north end of the Malecon, across the street from the beach and in the middle of all the little shops. Perfect for me.
