Check in line was a joke, took over 90 minutes standing in a cattle line.
The al cart restaurants were always “Full” or available after 9:00 pm and the food was poor.
There was NEVER a Manager on duty, so any and all issues were never addressed and or resolved.
Room service was available 50% of the time.
There were lines for EVERYTHING, food, drinks, reservations, towels.
Not worth the money, they have too many rooms and inadequate staff and supplies.

Checking in was horrible. They didn’t have a room for us when we arrived. They gave a room where people were still there, then they gave us another room which was at the very back with a view to the neighbour building which looked like it was under construction. We went the next day to ask if they could give us another room, the guy said to go back next day, and we did, but they told us that they wouldn’t move us at all. I told them that this would be the first and last time we would stay there, and the guy just shrugged and said “ok”.
On the other hand, the buffet food was delicious and the pool was ok.

The pool is the best part of this place, I stayed in the old section apparently though. I had to walk for about 10 minutes to get to my room and go up several flights of stairs. It was a hike to my room. The pool is beautiful though, and the activities at the pool are amazing. The food was OK, typical all inclusive food. It’s in a good location for exploring Puerto Vallarta overall, I would stay there again, but I would request to be less of a distance away from the pool.

First of all the stuff did their best ,we went during the pv attack they keep us safe
We didn’t get to enjoy all the things that the hotel had they closed the restaurants so we couldn’t try everything. The only thing that they had open was the buffet and this snack bar. But in the snack bar they run out of food fast
Also my room had mold especially in the bathroom

Main restaurant very hot typically with not enough air circulation fans or ac as main dining is open air, eating indoors highly recommended, Oriental cuisine restaurant struggled to serve food that you would want to consume, it was nearly impossible to find avocado in any restaurant on the property eg, main dining/Asian/Mexican specialty, cucumber was the go to filler for anything green on all menu items which for Mexico was extremely disappointing. Cevicheria was more tomato/cabbage/cucumber filler with very little protien except for chicken and soysauced octopus again zero avocado used in this mexican cusine. Do not stay at this resort if you are looking for food experiences or dining sorry, the italian restauran did serve some decent pasta but this is a reservation only dining and these reservations are limited to only certain days open and short dining windows. The staff here is not the problem but the management/resort owners and the leadership dictating the level of service staff can provide

Very clean resort. Staff was super friendly, we were in mountain view and it was quiet in that section which we appreciated. The 3 pool areas were great with one having a kids splash pool. They had a French fry, burger/ hotdog/ pizza area that was great for my granddaughter as she wouldn’t eat buffet. 4 speciality restaurants to choose from. Could use a snack shop but xoxx is down the block.
Nightly entertainment was great. Would recommend resort.

This hotel is affordable and gets the job done. The hotel seems to be a bit older but overall the room was clean. The food is okay. The lady who makes the omelettes is rude. With that being said, I am giving a 3star rating due to the hospitality. A lot of the workers seem like they don’t want to work there or if you’re bothering them. If you're wanting something affordable then it’s okay. My advice, spend a little more and get something a little better.

We have been staying at Canto for the last 19yrs. Every employee here is amazing, the food is great and the entire hotel is always being cleaned around the clock. The only issue we had this week is that for the first time we had a room in the 300s section. 368 to be exact. The air conditioner was not working at all, the room is small and not lit well, bad lighting in there. We chose this room because we had one of our kids with us this time around. We always stay in the mountain villas which are great. These are small issues that are really not a big problem. With that said, we WILL keep coming back to this hotel. The service is amazing.

The stay is great here. Everything is very clean and the staff go above and beyond to help with everything.
Food is very average but you can always find something to enjoy.
I would like to have more entertainment for the kids in the day time and early evening.
We have come here 2 years in a row.
Location is great a quick UBER or bus ride to the Malecon. Shops right outside the resort if you want anything.

Bathroom door was filthy…hand prints, foot prints. Sand on floor when we arrived. Shower leaked all over the floor. Chair smelled of urine. Food was good. Pool warm. Beach beautiful. Staff very good. Bracelets were cut off right at check out (11am), and we couldn’t get food/drinks. First time that has ever happened. We were able to sit in the lounge and wait until it was time to leave for the airport. Main pool was very loud and crowed. Kid pool was relaxing, believe it or not!

We had a wonderful room with a great view. The staff is so friendly and helpful, the shows were fun, pools are great. Main pool is lovely and fun with lots of activities. The buffet had lots of options and the restaurants served amazing food. Perfect beach front access and good location. Easy to get to the malicon and downtown. David and Enrique went over the top with their service. This is our second visit and there was still lots to discover the second time around. Only complaint is we would have liked to have the option to pay half a day between morning checkout and late afternoon flight, or a late checkout fee.

We came to Puerto Vallarta for my cousins wedding. She chose this hotel for her wedding. The hotel itself is ok. I hate writing bad reviews however I didn’t leave with a good experience when I approach the lobby to ask if they could bring me another two bottles of water. The person at the lobby said I had to call from our room to request that which I did. When I requested bottle of waters they informed be they couldn’t as they only give you the first two bottles complimentary. I said it was fine to charge me for it but I need them because I brought my baby and I needed to mix her formula. They refused and said if I wanted to complain I needed to complain with Expedia. That really upset me how I was treated over just bottles of water than I feel like it’s a pretty basic need. We paid a lot of money for our stay and we can’t get bottle of waters? It’s supposed to be all inclusive. Buffets at restaurants are al inclusive and you can get a glass of water there but you can’t bring them to your room. You must save your bottles of water and refill them in some of the water stations at the hotel. I saw everybody doing that which is fine however what really upset me again was the treatment I received. Food is also very bland and not a lot of options. It’s a big hotel and the elevators are very limited and very very small. We couldn’t fit all our luggage in one when we were getting ready to leave.

3 of us in a room, only 3 towels in the whole room no wash clothes no hand towels only 3 small shower towels . The beds were so small. You could hear the people in the next room's fart & breath. it echoed so bad in the hallways .Not a sound sleep thats forsure . Room was filthy with cob webs and dust all over ceiling. No hot water for first 3 days. Food was super limited. No toast in morning. Coffee was extremely poor like weak bildge water. Music was really loud and like a night club at times. There was a wedding one night and the music was so loud in our room it was deafening until 11pm. The hotel outside is amazing pools. Amazing restaurants are amazing. The buffet could use some variety.
They should have some drinks for the kids like a special kids section different drinks for them. They always have feature drinks for the adults, but never for the kids.
The rooms are horrible. They need updating big time. We’ve stayed here twice now and both times the room has been horrible for the price that we’re paying. I would expect a better room everything falling apart we went to use the pullout bed. There wasn’t even any springs left in it you literally sound right down to the ground as soon as you sat on it The mattress was horrible. It was literally flat like a pancake. It was probably 50 years old. My son couldn’t sleep on that nobody could sleep on that so then I had to wait for somebody to come up and look at it and then go and get me a bed that was suitable for him to sleep on that we had to put in the middle of our living room. My daughter fell on their pool deck and smashed her head. It was bleeding. She had cuts on her head. I phoned and asked for the doctor to come up to look at her head they looked at her head, bandaged it up and said that she should probably go to an ER. They told me that a letter to clear her so that she can go on an airplane and it would either be $100 US cash that night $90 US cash the next day or I would have to go to a hospital and spend thousands that should’ve been free when my daughter fell on their pool deck and smashed head

The staff at Canto Del Sol are very friendly, helpful, & are genuinely happy to work there. The staff at the buffet area, the cevicheria, pool area, entertainment, & housekeeping. We never encountered someone who was not happy.

Various pools- the main pool has the kiddie & main pool, pool activities, music, direct access to the buffet, & snack area. Very attentive staff making sure our drinks were always full. Tip- take a travel mug as their cups are not allowed in or around the pool areas. I appreciate that this was enforced by the 2-3 security men that are making sure everyone is safe.
The other pool is across the hotel, you take a short bridge where you find the cevicheria (that is amazing) & a relaxed & calm environment with low music.

The only cons are the facilities, the pools have several missing tiles, & the room we stayed in (super saver) had

Like many people I had read the reviews and was a little skeptical but let me assure you once we got there everything went seamlessly Yes the resort is a bit on the older side but it's extremely clean everywhere Our room was cleaned daily And once you figure out that Hot is cold and cold is hot you will enjoy a Hot Shower!! LOL
The food for us was really mediocre but you can always find something that you would enjoy eating.
The breakfast are phenomenal with enough choices to please absolutely everybody Fruits are fresh the eggs are fresh ect. The service in eating area is phenomenal they are all super friendly. And you are just a close ride to the Malecon Where the best two for one Margarita are .. Not the hotel that was my one disappointment
The beach is great No Umbrellas but don't worry there is a fella there that will rent you one for 300 pesos for the day. We did that for 7 days .. support the locals :)
This hotel is geared towards the Mexicans You are in Mexico! Oh and our bed was super comfy.. Cheers

All of the above , resort was over crowded and under staffed. It took us 2 1/2 hours to check in , by the time we got our tickets to book a la Carte meals everything was sold out and throughout our 5 day stay we ended up eating at the buffet for 4. By the second day the food was so bad we opted to eat in the city costing us an additional 500$ for our stay rather than eating on the resort. Staff is kind , that’s the only positive. I will not be coming back.

We went over the Christmas and New Years break! Never again! The sun and the weather and the loungers by the pool were excellent!! Too many local tourists and the hotel was over booked therefore it was difficult to make any restaurant reservations as there was so many people for the resort to accommodate! Long lineups for food. Poor food quality and variety. Everyday the resort ran out of running water and we had to take water from buckets to flush the public toilets. The electricity went out twice in our 8 days! The bell men were very friendly and helpful as were the breakfast waiters. The rest of the staff were not as friendly or accommodating! We were given 4 tickets to reserve dinner at one of the 3 restaurants in our 8 night stay. I could only reserve 2 nights as the resort was full so our only option for dinner most nights was the buffet. This is a family resort and they didn’t offer any ice cream!! Our room smelled like mold. I reserved a king bed and got 2 very hard twin beds for me and my husband. Our room did not come with a mini bar, just 2 bottles of water out on the table. Definitely the worst resort we have stayed at and will not come back again!

Ill start with the good. The bar staff and restaurant staff is great. The pool is nice, get up early to get your poop chairs. Now the bad. The hotel ran out of running water 5 of the 7days we were there. 1 day we didnt have electricity. The partial ocean view rooms are tiny and 1 of our 2 rooms didnt have a balcony, just a little window. Check out is 11am. They dont allow you to keep your bracelets or towels any later then that. Our flight was at 7pm and we had to leave our luggage and go find something to do for the whole day. We have never had that happen anywhere else. We have always been able to keep our bracelet and towel until we leave for our flight. The food was terrible. We arent very picky travelers but this experience left a bad taste. We ended up eating at restaurants off the resort everyday for dinner.

We stayed for 7 days and 1 day a transformer blew leaving the whole hotel without power for 7 hours so no restaurants, no air conditioning. Also 3 other separate days we were left with no water in the whole hotel, no shower services, no bathroom services. The longest incident was New Years Eve with no water or toilets. We found this unacceptable and left a day early!

Check in was very slow. Was not provided WIFI information or buffet or food location and times.
Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday evening and night. Thursday morning no running water in our room. News even there was an event and we weren’t notified that the Buffet was closed. The event buffet was seafood. To prevent food allergies it is recommended that 2 year olds not eat seafood. My daughter had to go out of her way to get a none food seafood diner for my 2 year old granddaughter.. I will never stay at this resort again. Due to the lack of running water 3 nights in a row this room was not serviceable. I think I should be partially refunded for the nights running water in my room was not available

They had specialty restaurants and we could not find reservations since we checked in, they already knew at reception and they still gave up coupons for the sold out specialty restaurants. We've been going to PV for 25+ years and have stayed at all levels and all sorts of resorts, villas, basic hotels, and full all-inclusive. Canto del Sol was passable, but just barely. Everything was just shy of mediocre - from the buffet to the pool to the room to the staff. There were intermittent highlights (one particular staff, for example), but overall it was a disappointment. Specifics - the pool was big (+), but dirty and with lots of wear & tear; the room was clean (+), but the pull-out sofa was broken (they did repair quickly, but quite a hassle when discovering at bedtime with kids) and they didn't supply any bedding until we requested it. Also, the room had only sheer curtains, most of which you couldn't draw fully over the windows and there was no light-blocking curtains, so with all the outside lighting on the building, the room was far from dark for sleeping. Staff (except the one mentioned above) seemed quite disinterested - simply doing the bare minimum with very little engagement or genuine care for supporting a quality holiday. One staff even threw away my son's flip flops from the pool deck when he stayed until the closing time. We were told the pool was closed by the same person and when he got out and tried to find his flip-flops, she looked embarrassed and went to the garbage to retrieve them. They are all minor things, but just quite disappointing.

The air conditioner not working at night, we called many times the front desk and it’s seems they ignored us. They said the a/c is centralized and they’re a certain time to turn it on. The food is okay but repetitive. The place and location are really good and the staff there are very nice and friendly.

The facilities themselves are good. An older resort but well maintained. The staff is very helpful and know the area well. There are three pools and a great beach area within a mile of the boardwalk (walking distance). The bars are fine but don't open until 10AM and they don't use the swim-up bar because no drinks in the pool allowed. If this was the end of the review it would be perfect.

However, the biggest let down was the food! The single main restaurant is cafeteria/buffet all you can eat style and is not very high quality and very unappealing. It was often lukewarm at best and similar to what I could eat in the US. Everyone not eating at the specialty restaurants must eat here so it gets very crowded. There is also not food available at all times. The specialty restaurants are better but you only get one voucher for every two nights and reservations must be placed far in advance. The food is much better there with a limited menu that you choose options for app, soup/salad, entree, and dessert. The snack bar by the main pool serves hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza primarily but mass produced and not good quality as well as being cold most of the time.
Overall, loved the stay in Puerto Vallarta and if Canto del Sol could upgrade the food quality and variety this would be a much higher rating.

I booked two rooms. One room, the sliding balconies door would not slide and the safe did not work. We requested our room be cleaned (we were out of toilet paper and towels), they did not clean it. We did have to track someome down to eventually get a roll of toilet paper. The food was not good. Buffet was the same thing every day. Staff were fantastic though.

Second time staying at the resort and I was very happy with the value for dollar. We were there late November. The staff was wonderful and very friendly! There was always entertainment. The main buffet could get quite the line and there was a lot of repeat stuff but thats to be expected for the price point. The only negative would be 1 elevator wasnt working which wasnt a huge deal for us but was definitely an issue for those with strollers, wheel chairs or any mobility issues. Also the shower didnt seem to have hot water in the early hours. No issues later on but not sure if its because the tanks took time to heat or something else. Also the last few days of our stay we saw the splash park slide was dismantled, portions were blocked off when arriving but they ended upbreaking down the whole thing. Again didnt affect us but i imagine it still shows on the current photos. Overall I was pleased with the resort and would happily stay again
