It’s an older Mexican style Hotel with a nice courtyard and a nice rooftop swimming pool adjacent to a lounging area on the roof.
It’s in walking distance to Centro and Zona Romantica which is fantastic.
We stayed for 4 weeks and the roof service is great.
We had a room with a little balcony looking towards the ocean which we very much enjoyed.
Since the hotel is right at the car bridge it can be noisy at times.
I would recommend the place considering the price it costs.

No beach view from my room … had some issues with leaking shower also not enough counter space in the bathroom & most importantly there was no fridge available in the room & when staying 14 nights it’s important to have that. My bed was comfortable & the maid service was great.

I feel that booking through Expedia does not provide a standard room. We were put in a place that allowed entry for birds and hundreds perched outside our room. We walked through droppings the exit our room. The restaurant was very good and pool was as well

The rooms are very dirty. Housekeeping never washed the floors and bathroom. All furniture was thick with dust. First room we had was like a prison cell with a night light always on. 2nd room was great but dirty. Staff are always pleasant. With some extra care this hotel could be a great place. Big problem with birds and pooing everywhere. Can’t be healthy.

The room was clean, traditional Mexico style. The location is really good, walking distance to everything you need. The restaurant looked nice and there’s a small pool on the top floor. Bring earplugs, as it’s very loud at night. We got what we paid for.

I was extremely disappointed with this hotel room. The room had no lamps at all, several broken tiles, visible mold, and leaky faucets, and shower doors. The room felt demolished then patched back together. Basic amenities were missing — there was no iron and no in-room safe, which are standard expectations. Oh and only a thin bedsheet to sleep in.

The worst part was the cleanliness. Birds were gathering outside the room, and there was bird droppings everywhere — on the floor, door, walls, furniture, and even the A/C unit. This made the room feel extremely unsanitary and neglected.

Overall, the lack of maintenance, cleanliness issues, and missing basic amenities made this an uncomfortable stay. I would not recommend this property unless major improvements are made

This is an older property in decent shape. Our room was basic with some wear, but clean. Small hole in one sheet and drapery. The hotel is well situated on the river. Our room was quiet. They have s rooftop restaurant that was popular.

I arrived a little early. They said the room wasnt ready. Fine, so i waited. Didnt seem like there was many people so i couldnt understand the delay. Oh well! My room was in a good location except for the birds, no lamps, and non functioning tv remote..For one week there were 30 to 50 swallows outside my room, making noise and defecating onthe floor outside my door. I left notes in spanish, told the front desk 4 times. Nothing was done the whole time I was there. I have been to this hotel 8 times and this time was charged a rate 500 dollars higher because of New Years. Equivalent to the Chelsea in downtown Toronto. About the same for a niight..for a 3 star. I am a relaxed person for the most part, and have had an easy going attitude in the past. Sadly, and i really feel sad, cause I appreciate the mexican experience and the way the hotel looks. I never had a problem with cleanliness in the past. I did bring it to thier. Attentio. I will never go back and never reccomend it again. All they had to do was clean up the bird feces once or twice..Yuck!

The property was not what i would expect.
I was there for 3 nights,
Stained drapery and bedding,
Shortage of ass wipe. Asked for a ŕoll, and was told they'd send someone to purchase some. Very loud at night lead to sleeplessness until 01:30, when the bar next door closed.
Next to bridge over water, and vehicle noise was horrible.
Had to wear a stupid bracelet while there, Not sure why. Its not all inclusive.

Great location. Free lobby coffee in morning. Water dispensers on each floor. Pool & rooftop lounge area spacious & nice. Good Happy hour 3-7pm. Beach towels can be checked out. Air conditioner worked great. Clean rooms (clean as much as old decor can be). Good desk staff (but limited English).
Cons:
Dated hotel & rooms. Washroom sub-par. Water would leak from counter onto floor at both sides of the sink, as well as from base of toilet to the shower (it was indeed in that direction and not the reverse), washroom towels weirdly out of reach of the sink, people would smoke at the pool area & the rooftop lounge area...for a \"no smoking\" establishment staff either turned a blind eye or didn't care. No in-room safe.
Overall:
A good budget choice if you prioritize location & plan to make use of the pool. If you don't need a pool then the washroom situation becomes harder to accept. I would come back, but would try a different room & hope the washroom is nicer.

The rooms are old and dated , the door leading to our tiny balcony is rotted and had large gaps , allowing the outside noise in.
The toilet paper holder did not have a roller
The elevator was out of order,
They require a room deposit when you check in, I used my credit card , but they didn’t want to credit the card back , they wanted to return it in pesos which is a different exchange rate. Very unfriendly staff except our cleaning lady.
Great location, but hotel needs major upgrades.

Fantastic location. This is a no frills, old hotel but clean throughout. The rooftop lounge area is nice, with a small pool and restaurant. I went solo and felt safe there. The beds are very old and not very comfy... but not the worst bed I've slept in there. I brought my own blanket after reading some reviews and I'm glad I did. The only real negative for me was the door lock as there was only a knob lock. This really needs to be addressed by the hotel, just as simple as putting a chain back on! I put a chair at the door under the knob to remedy for myself. I'd stay again.

The hotel was being remodeled. All the doors to the rooms were being replaced. Sadly, we had a scary incident!! A drunken guest was able to open our room door. The doorknob was loose, but thankfully we had the security lock. We yelled at them and scared them away. They were literally above us. We called security immediately, no one but the guest above us had came in. We felt comfortable enough to stay in the room. They were able to change the lock on the third night. Since we had excursions, all day.

I am far from picky, and I generally love the smaller Mexico boutique hotels even with all their cracked tiles and imperfections, like real Mexico. However, my room was disgusting. Toilet base leaked and had a lovely sewage odor. The closet had such a foul odor, no way I’d put anything in it, and above it on the trim had illegal drugs left on it. The floor was dirtier than if I just walked outside barefoot. Sink spout was too short water ran over the counter on to the floor. Paper thin doors no deadbolt. No blanket and only two super flat pillows on the bed, had to leave the AC on to alleviate the moisture and funk in the room, so we froze all night. So yeah, I’m requesting a refund through Expedia and I expect Expedia to honor their guarantee, regardless if the hotel refunds or not. Fair warning to anyone looking to book here. If you’re the hotel and reading this, you should be ashamed of your performance. Do better!! Don’t respond to this with standard, we strive to do better BLA, BLA, BLA. I know you won’t! Just give me my refund and I won’t repost this on all the travel forums!

Location was great, between El Centro and Zona Romantica; but the hotel was SO noisy. Traffic, voices from the street and a bar/restaurant on the floor above mine (I was in 304). Staff were not courteous, I had to convince them to give me a pool towel; they wanted me to come back down when I was ready to swim. You are handed the tv & a/c remotes only after you pay their deposit, not until then! No blanket & not even a little thing of hair conditioner. No hand towel and nowhere to put it even if there was! I get the “get what you pay for” scenario, but this was really really basic.

Good location but I dont think I'd stay here again

I stayed here before and it wasn't bad, which is why I returned. This time there were a few things that were annoying immediately. One of the bathroom lights were out, the tv was zoomed in and couldn't be fixed (every channel), and there was a weird window hole with doors from the room into the hallway. I complained about the tv and light and someone came but couldnt fix it. When I showered water leaked all the way into the hallway because the shower door wasnt sealed properly. So after that I had to make sure there was a big towel on the ground. Only 1 roll of toilet paper, I think any hotel should always provide 2 in the room. Also when I stayed here a month ago there was no bracelets and now they had annoying bracelets. Just a lot of things bothered me this stay.

Not a new or stylish Hotel, I don't understand some of the bad reviews on here complaining over how old the Hotel is. Not when you're paying so little in a perfect location and not to mention that the pictures and description is clear on this website. It's comfortable, nice staff, good rooftop swimming pool and nice little restaurant/bar next to the pool. I recommend it if you're on a budget

Hotel Encino is in a good location if the traveler wants to be in the “Centro” and near the shops and restaurants on the “Malecon”. It can be noisy day and night (street noise, loud music, etc.) because of its proximity to av. Vallarta. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the linens clean. The bathroom needed serious renovations. The pool area is a great asset, but was occasionally crowded. I was only able to get WiFi in the lobby and another guest said the same. The reception and housekeeping personnel were friendly and helpful.

Nosotros habíamos reservado un cuarto de 3camas y al llegar nos dijeron que el cuarto de 3 camas estaba en reparación y solo tenían de dos camas, les dije que yo había hecho mi reservación 2 meses antes, como era eso posible que no tuvieran el cuarto listo, estaba muy molesta, al final me dieron ese cuarto de 3 camas en reparación que olía a pintura fresca y llena de polvo, muy molesta, muy mal por la recepción..

We stayed here for convenience to explore the Malecon/Romantica Zone. For that it was an excellent location! As far as comfort, not really my 3rd choice…wifi does not work well at all, unless you’d like to sit in the lobby as many folks were doing! Did not work in our room, nor on the pool deck. Very sporadic in spots within hotel, and being in Mexico relying on wifi to communicate, made this very frustrating. Thankfully it was only for 2 short nights and we were able to let our family know of our plans!

This building has sooo much potential, it really is a beautiful building. The staff were friendly, extra blanet upon request. We did not eat at the rooftop restaurant, nor did we dip in the pool as the loungers were not that clean, and sketchy wifi to boot to hang out in the sun. We chose to go back out instead.
Could be just fine for some folks, but sadly, I will find somewhere else next time!

First off, the service was excellent. The staff are professional and accommodating. The hotel, however is a bit tired. The doorskins in the bathroom door and wardrobe were broken, peeling back, and just painted over. The crank to open the glass to the pateo was broken off and hanging. There was a centimeter gap where the patio wall was screwed together. Traffic and conversation drifted up at all hours as if there was no divider at all. I'm by know means a light sleeper, but i was woken up by trucks, shouts, construction, and church bells all but one night. In all fairness, i forgot it was holy week, so the bells were far more frequent than would be typical, but the shoddy construction of the divider did nothing to keep out sound.

The counterbalance to the experience was the rooftop pool. Stunning view of the hills and water. Excellent lounge space. The rooftop restaurant was excellent with terrific drink specials.

I probably won't plan another stay here, but can definitely recommend this hotel for younger travelers in a budget.

Have stayed at Encino 4 times. Love it. Roof top pool. Roof top restaurant. Easy walk to Malecon and the Pier and the beaches. Staff is very helpful and curtious. Quaint Mexican feel with the beautiful court yard. Simple rooms nothing fancy but beds comfy and I always ask for balcony with river view. Just love staying here.

It doesn't extend beyond the door to your room. It works great in the common areas, but that's it. That's not a workable situation if you need privacy or quiet to get work done
