We just spent 8 days here and both enjoyed it very much the property is beautiful and well maintained. The food all around was very good with some buffet nights being a bit of a hit or miss but that’s depending on personal taste. The bars for the most part were pretty fast especially the adults only pool bar. The adults only pool was a nice getaway from the loud music and noisy crowd at the main pool but the pool needs to be skimmed more often as there can be quite a few leaves and bugs floating around by noon. The beach was very nice with clear signage as to the inherent risk you take swimming in the ocean with there being sharks, stingrays, jellyfish and crocodiles. The water is fairly calm as it’s not facing directly into open ocean on the east. The chairs on the other hand are quite a problem at this resort as they don’t have enough of them for the amount of rooms they fill for the resort. If you’re not up at the crack of dawn going to the beach to get your seats you’re out of luck and that’s that no extra chairs you would have to sit on the beach but as the sand has lots of coral and shells in it that becomes quite uncomfortable fast. Other than that we loved it there and those would be our only gripes

We had a great stay at Occidental. The staff provided excellent service and everything we needed was available. Our room was clean, comfortable, and always kept well stocked. The grounds and beautiful gardens were impeccably maintained.
There wasn’t much to do at night which is a shame since it’s expensive to cab in to the market area. The food menu at the evening buffet could use some tweaking but we found fresh options to sustain us at every meal. The a la cart options were great.

The location itself was stunning. The grounds are maintained well and the beach was very clean. The food served at both the buffets were surprisingly good (except for the deserts). The cocktails were not made well. Our air conditioner in our room only worked on low and wouldn’t get the room colder than 25 Celsius which is better than nothing considering the heat. The nightclub room wasn’t open every night and the air conditioning in there was working well either. The bar in the nightclub was not operating at the time of our visit. The spa wasn’t fully staffed so we were never able to make an appointment.

Don’t expect good customer service at this resort. Check in and restaurant reservations are very unorganized. People jumping in front of others that have been waiting. DO NOT RESERVE THE ROMANTIC DINNER ON THE BEACH! It was a disaster. During our dinner the Lights shut off (then we were attacked by swarms of bugs in our food) and we had to finish it in the restaurant. It was suppose to be romantic and just us but we finished with others and subjected to crying babies and cold lobster and steak. Resort didn’t offer anything or even a discount. IT WAS A DISASTER! Fan and AC in the room did not work. I would not recommend this resort.

Right after we checked in we were greeted by an afternoon manager who asked if we had stayed with them previously. Upon learning we hadn’t, he immediately invited us to a special “welcome breakfast” with a member of the staff, the following morning. He said he needed 20 usd per couple to reserve the invitation. We agreed and scheduled to meet at 8:30 the next morning.

In the morning, we arrived, meet with the manager at the desk, received our deposit money, and were escorted to the breakfast buffet by a young fellow.

Unfortunately the small talk turned into a timeshare pitch. Can’t believe this is still a thing.

If you play along and listen until the end, you’re rewarded with some “Monopoly money”. We found out (the hard way) that it really isn’t worth a tinker’s dam.

The food and drinks are pretty good as are the pools and beach (beware of wild animals). Our room, in bldg. 17 needed the air on the entire stay (the thermostat was programmed to be set only as cool as 21 degrees centigrade (

The Royal level manager, Itzel, went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. While the food at the resort is not 5-star (compared to other resorts we've been to), there was always something we enjoyed eating.

We have been here before. Royal level. It’s worth the minimal extra. In my opinion.

Friendly helpful staff, beautiful grounds, huge rooms. I’m sure before the beach started eroding it truly was perfect. Still plenty of space on the beach an a gorgeous property. I mentioned in the FB group that our first room was very strong musty smelling. Many replies noted that second floor rooms don’t have this issue. All chairs are claimed by guests leaving their towels and belongings by 7am. We loved the Mexican and seafood specialty restaurants.

This property was wonderful and well kept! The staff was amazingly friendly and hard working! Pools were really nice. Beach was small, but still beautiful with great snorkeling right in the swimming area! Rooms were clean.

Buffet food was just okay, but there was always something you could find to eat. Breakfast was great everyday and all three restaurants were really good with great service! Drinks were good, but watered down. There is no way you’re getting tipsy here.

Night shows were really enjoyable and the staff really got into the performances.

Overall our family had a great vacation at the Occidental!

The property is beautifully located in a jungle with winding paths through lush gardens. The buildings are very cool old Spanish style. Rooms were very clean and large. The buffet food is fine, plenty of choices and the fresh fruit is great. The ala carte restaurants were good but have quite a limited menu. They make it a special dining experience. It’s a small very friendly resort.

Disappointment Due to Queues and Lack of Sunbeds at Occidental Cozumel - All Inclusive
The hotel is decent overall: clean and cozy room, restaurants with a good selection of dishes, tasty and varied food. Beautiful beach, warm sea. But the vacation was ruined by endless queues and infrastructure issues!
Queues everywhere: 15 minutes to enter the main restaurant, 20 minutes to get a drink at the beach bar, another 15 minutes for lunch at the beach restaurant. Half the vacation was spent standing in lines! Staff works sluggishly, in no hurry - that’s why all the delays.
Sunbeds on the beach are impossible to find from morning till evening: all occupied by “reservations” - people throw towels and leave. We lay on the sand on our own towels from 10 AM to 4 PM. A la carte restaurants are a real quest: you can’t book for the same day, only the next, and only if you managed to sign up at 9 AM.
It’s a shame for the money and time spent. Not recommended for those who want to relax, not waste their vacation waiting.

Staff was great as always! Rooms were nice and the maids were very attentive! Breakfast was good. Dinner buffet was eh, but the mexican theme night at the buffet was really good. Nice pools and nice beach even though the beach was drawn back due to the hurricane a few years ago. All in all i would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in cozumel. The island is a gem!

Room was good. There are very few bathrooms on site, you go back to your room from the pool. Food was OK, not great. Buffet food could have been hotter. Great resort layout, it was paths through the jungle. We paid for a Concierge and that was a waste, asked for one thing and it didnt happen. He just tried selling us a membership. We should have upgraded to the \"Royal\" rooms. They have an additional restaurant.

First of all, the staff was amazing, not one single rude person on the resort. Special thank you to all the staff at the La Caretta, for some reason I cannot leave their names per Expedia... but the entire staff was so great. Wonderful, loving staff, took very good care of us. The ladies at the Royal check in, I failed to get their names, but I hope they are recognized as they made the check in so smooth and so sweet. Now about the resort. This resort was fabulous. the accommodations were fabulous, all the food was really good, Pools and beach is outstanding. Wish the Mexican food was more authentic, but the staff, wonderful. Seafood restaurant was good as was the Mediterranean. We just had a wonderful time and high recommend this resort.

The resort overall is pretty good, expected more based off the ratings. The hurricane that hit it a few years ago had a significant impact on it. I would rate our stay as good. The cleanliness of the resort was very good, but there were a lot of things that were needing attention.

Our shower head was somewhat detached from the ceiling so it would spray water out of the shower for the first portion of the water running. The ice machine for our area didn't work the entire week. They ran out of one of the alcoholic beverages that I drink and the staff response was basically we have no idea when we'll have more.

It's an all inclusive but not really. Room service is at an extra charge. The refrigerator in our room got things cool, probably about the temperature you'd drink red wine.

We ate at three of the signature restaurants. The Greek one and Coral the seafood restaurant were not good. The Mexican one was ok. The daily buffet was completely hit and miss. The first day most of the entrees were cold. After that you'd be lucky if there was bacon in the morning or tortilla chips at lunch. They'd seem to only put them out about once an hour and then they'd be gone. Thankfully we realized most of this early on and ate away from the resort more than on site.

The good. The staff were all very friendly and extremely accommodating. That was the only portion of the trip that was 5 stars. The pool and beach area were nice and they had some fun activities to partake in.

Rooms varied from building to building. We stayed in number 19 on the second floor and found things to be brighter with good views and breezes compared to my family who were on the first floor of #10.
It’s a smaller resort and loved the feel of being surrounded by nature. Staff were friendly and responsive. Loved that there wasn’t a prominent tip culture. It was a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Loved being able to snorkel from the beach and take out the kayaks.
Limited sights to see outside or around the resort unless you’re looking to go diving or snorkelling.

Title: Serious Crocodile Attacked
Our stay was completely overshadowed by extremely serious safety issues at the beach, which were not properly addressed by hotel management.
During our stay, my husband was swimming when another guest urgently warned him to exit the water because a large crocodile was present very close to shore. He immediately got out of the water and clearly saw the crocodile, estimated to be approximately nine feet long. He began warning others on the beach, including another couple who were still in the water, allowing them to exit safely.
Only three days later, a far more severe incident occurred. At that time, approximately 30 people were swimming in the area. We heard screams and realized a woman had been attacked by a crocodile while in the water with a small child (around five years old). The crocodile grabbed her across the body. Guests from the shore rushed to help and managed to pull her out of the water. She was taken to the hospital, and when we left the hotel about six days later, she was still hospitalized.
Following this incident, I spoke with hotel management on multiple occasions regarding guest safety. Unfortunately, the crocodile was not removed, no warning signs were posted on the beach, and guests continued to enter the water unaware of the danger. New arrivals were not informed of crocodile danger.

Rooms were spotless and serviced every day. Beautiful stay in the middle of woods with a serene and accessible beach. We stayed 5 nights with all inclusive package.

Things we loved:
- Direct access to the water to snorkel and it was worth it
- Beautiful location
-Beautiful architecture -love how the light hit the chandeliers in the main area
- Clean rooms
-Clean pools
- Great staff (except front desk)
-Loved the New Years celebration

Things to be aware of:
-there is one pool for activities and kids. There is an adult only pool as well. The hot tub is only for Royal club members.
-If you love seafood and meat, there are lot of options. However, vegetarian and vegan food options were limited in the buffet

Things to improve on:
-Front desk staff need to be trained better. We found them slow and inefficient.
-Our keys didn’t work multiple times during our stay. The first time, we had dragged all our luggage to the room only to realize the key wasn’t activated!
- Vegetarian options like veg fajitas, enchiladas, etc could be helpful for non meat eaters
- Kids activities were all conducted at the pool, would be nice to have some indoor time too. I think the name of the conductor was Jesus, he did a splendid job interacting with kids and making them comfortable.
-Guests need to be asked to not reserve beach chairs hours in advance. Some of them just left towels to reserve early AM and only came to the beach at 2PM, while others had to sit on sand instead.

We love the relaxed vibe, the cleanliness and the great staff.
The meals at the Carreta (Royal Club) restaurant were excellent as is the staff there. Filet and Salmon ❤️
We ate at the buffet for lunch. We always arrived at opening It was adequate and a bit lower in selection than in past years. I miss the grilled fish as only fish offered was in sauce. The fresh chips didn’t come out until much later after we had left the restaurant.Chips, piqua de gallo, and guacamole with fresh grilled fish has always been my go to. There did seem to be seafood each day, but that’s a no go for me.
Jovanni did a great job at the pool, and the gals were always around to bring drinks!
Victor, at the adult pool makes THE BEST MARGARITAS ON THE ROCKS!
We hope to return next year

The resort and royal level room were amazing! The beach was private with a shark net protecting it. Plenty of lawn chairs and the service was great as well. The only complaint we had with the resort, was the food. You only get 1 reservation for every 2 days you stay at the resort. You can use this reservation at any of the 3 restaurants onsite. Outside of this though, you are stuck eating at the buffet. The food for breakfast and dinner were terrible. The refried black beans were 50% water. The rice was only plain white rice. There was never any seafood available. We would get sick everytime we ate the buffet food. If we did this resort again, we would skip the buffet and order room service or leave to eat outside the resort next time. The restaurant food was good, just the buffet that was terrible.

Not enough rooms with king size beds most of them have full size beds. The food was okay not much flavor and the buffet was pretty much always out of food. They need more choices and maybe a snack bar, The staff was pretty amazing the resort was beautiful in the jungle. The pools needed to be cleaned more often. We often had to ask them to come clean all the stuff out of the pools. Bars should be open earlier.

Very convenient proximity to dive sites. BEWARE IF USING OFF_SITE DIVE OPERATORS THAT THEY CHARGE A \"PIER FEE\". somewhat outrageous as they don't help you get on and off the boat or provide any real \"service\" Other than that extorsion practice of the dive shop/pier the Staff here is great. Always there to help. Pool atmosphere was fun and inviting. Beach could use some work. Not sure how to reverse the erosion. short walk up to Allegro tells you where all the sand went! Beds were very comfortable and the rooms were spacious enough for two over the span of 8 days. It's a bit of a hike to town. This is good and bad. Good for quiet and relaxing. bad if you want to get a taxi and go for dinner off of property. You can rent a car from the hotel which is nice. The Disco could maybe use some revamping as it was not very lively. Food choices were overall pretty good as well as the drink selections. The landscaping of the property is lovely. Lush greenery and well maintained foliage of many varieties. We'll be back.

The only complaint I have is there's Wifi but the televisions aren't smart TVs. The local television is obviously in Spanish, but my wife and I don't speak Spanish. We didn't come to Cozumel to watch television but given the fact that we had to escape the heat, TV would have been nice. We had to watch from our cell phones. The dude running the disco could have been nicer too, he catered to my wife but I was on my own. The waverunner we rented was nice but given the rules and how they police you when you go out was utterly ridiculous. And at $80 for a half hour, I'd pass.

We ignored the negative reviews of this place and wish we listened. Disappointing. Got eaten alive by mosquitos. They don't tell you the resort is close to a swamp with stagnant water hence all the mozzies.
They don't tell you the resort loses water pressure. You can't shower, you can't flush the toilet whenever you want.
gift shop gouges on prices.
Nothing done with urgency. All they say is \"I'm sorry\" and care even less.
The food and dining options were not great. They have different restaurants and schedules every night: we always had to ask 3 times because we were constantly given the wrong info EVERYDAY!! It got really old.
We avoided all of the \"specialty\" a la carte restaurants if we could after waiting 2 hours for our food the 2nd night. The buffet offering was fair
Issue with our 1st room: got moved to another room. Our new room's ceiling leaked water all over my suitcase overnight.
By then I just couldn't say anything anymore. We were so over it.
The concierge at the front lobby overwhelm and push guests checking in with wanting an on the spot commitment to a slot for 90 minute sales pitch early in the morning and then calls non stop if no one goes. Get the message: don't get pushy when people say no or indicate they are not interested!!! We came to enjoy the resort, not sales pitches at 8am in the morning!!!

We'll go back to Cozumel but not to this resort.

I was not actually at Occidental. We were told ahead of our trip that we we being moved to Allegro. Requested to be moved out of the first room and the 2nd room was leaking from the room and everytimw we walked into the room it felt like we were being hit wirh a fine mist which was coming through the roof

The property needed updating in the pool areas and to go to lunch it’s a long walk with a disability. Other than that the place was phenomenal.

The understanding of what you’re getting room wise is a little difficult between Expedia and the resort but the resort made everything work once we arrived. But we had to get assistance from a manager

Would go back for the friendliness of the staff, and the gorgeous beach. Great options at all of the buffets. We enjoyed the oriental restaurant. Our dive shop picked us up at the dock every day. We loved the fast service at the bars and the lovely ladies serving drinks on the beach. Really the staff were so kind. The grounds are beautiful. Our 2nd floor room was small but what we needed. We would have appreciated the AC to be a little more predictable, and there was quite a strong musty smell. I imagine 1st floor would be better since the buildings are thatch roof. Another issue was a faint smell of sewage from the water. All in all, this resort made for a fantastic budget vacation. Lots of families at the resort. The kids water park area looked suited best for ages 5 and under. Lots of activities happening at front pool and beach for all ages. We didn’t venture out at night because we go to bed early but heard some music and entertainment as well just can’t comment on how that was.

Offer more food choices. It was a small selection of food offered several times a week. It got really old after the 3rd night. The Oriental food was the best restaurant and that was the only one with air conditioning which made dining anywhere else very uncomfortable because of the heat and humidity. The cheese on the meat and cheese station was mushy because it was melting because of the heat. Our room had A LOT of small bugs in it. We were told if we had bought into the vacation club we would’ve been upgraded to a room that “ is more better and no bugs”. If you are white, and don’t speak Spanish, learn it because there weren’t many people there that didn’t speak Spanish.

We have been to Cozumel many times and enjoy this side of the island specifically for the beautiful water at the beaches as we have tried the neighboring resorts next to Occidental. I noticed Barcelo owns Occidental and we have been to Barcelo in Cabo so we really loved that resort so we thought let’s give this one a try. We were very disappointed with the food choices at the buffet. It appeared like leftovers and the same thing every day. The meat quality of the steaks in the reservation restaurant Olivos was absolutely terrible as it was presented folded over with a ton of fat on the meat. Of course you can find sustainable food at the buffet like pasta but I didn’t spend money for this resort to eat pasta. At least the property is well kept and clean with beautiful scenery. We may not return to Occidental as this was our least favorite all inclusive resort and we have been to 21 different all inclusive resorts.

The resort is in a nice area. Some of the employees are just rude. The property is old and outdated. The back door in my toom was off track and window in the bathroom didnt close, even after maintenance came and fixed it.The buffet was ok not alot of choices. The specialty resturant if tou can maje a reservation was good especially the seafood restaurant. The drinks were ok alot of extra alcohol needed because they make them weak. I wouldnt recommend this resort.

We loved this resort, we stayed in the Royal section and our room was great. The beach is just a short walk from the rooms, the pool overlooking the ocean was awesome. The Buffett food was about par for all-inclusive, the reservation restaurants have amazing food. Like always, find your favorite bartender, tip them immediately and they will take care of you.
We are already planning our return trip.

Loved it! Great immersion with a natural area. Beautiful environment. Lots of vegetation and wildlife. The birds and coatis are very habituated to people. It is important to not feed them or leave any food out for them to grab. Additionally people need to haze(scare) them off. We clapped our shoes or hands together and chased them off multiple times and that is important for the animal’s safety and for human safety. The animals need to be reminded to not get close to people. If you leave food or bags unattended the coatis will steal it. The staff also do a great job of hazing off the coatis/birds when notified. For the birds they also have great deterrents by the restaurants such as alarms and a raptor handler. The seafood restaurant was by far my favorite. The adult cabanas are comfy. The beach area is shaded and plenty of space. No crowds anywhere. Room had a/c and a fan. The power went out once and they fixed it super quick and had no issues. Bats are also very prominent so be cautious when walking and going up the flights of stairs to rooms, also important to make a lot of movement and noise so the bats avoid hitting you on accident. Their dance, circus, and mariachi staff are very talented and did amazing shows! Would definitely come here again!
