I went to Paris for a trade show for my company (Wine Paris). 1. Many elements of the room were broken (closet door, light fixture missing a bulb cover etc.); 2. the walls are paper thin and I could hear someone coughing in their room down the hall (not just next to me). I was on the 3rd floor, someone was smoking out of their window on the 2nd floor although it is a non smoking hotel. I waited until that person stopped smoking to see if the smell would dissipate. I later opened the room door leading to the hallway because the odor didn’t dissipate after 1 hour and could smell smoke in the hallway (possibly mold and not just smoke because my eyes were itching soon after I settled into the 1st room). I had a headache and asked if this was a smoking hotel (I do not smoke and wouldn’t have chosen such hotel). They mentioned not being able to do anything about it but ban the occupant from the hotel after that night and offered a 2nd room to me on the 2nd floor. By then it was getting late and during trade shows it is nearly impossible to find another hotel nearby. I was in my pajama, wasn’t offered any assistance to carry my luggage to the 2nd room which had the same odor and was worse in cleanliness and damage than the first one.
I had 3 hours of sleep, didn’t have breakfast (how could I fathom eating there while everything is so run down and disgustingly dirty) and left at 7AM
