Nice hotel in Brussells

Nice friendly hotel, close to where I was working in Brussells and close to the metro that connects to the airport. Breakfast was varied and the room was comfortable. The reception staff are always nice people.

Needs refurbishment

Best thing that can be said about this hotel is the lcoation if you want to stay right in the heart of the EU District. Other than that, it is an old hotel that needs to be refurbished. Rooms are small. Breakfast is decent, but not a five star luxury buffet!

Nice hotel right next to EC building.

The hotel itself is really nice. Exceptionally close to the EC buildings, and with small supermarkets and restaurants all within 1 minute walking distance.

The ambience inside the hotel is exquisite. It is calm, dimly lit, and with a wonderful aroma in the lobby area.

I cannot comment on breakfast, as i did not have it.

The room was clean, and well provisioned, with very friendly cleaning staff. The room also has some nice art, and beautiful pictures of exquisite automobiles. In my room were photos of ~€10 million euros worth of classic car. Lovely, if you appreciate this, as you do not get to see these cars outside of books and museums, normally.

The only comment i have is that on one evening, i asked the front desk to print me 12 pages of black and white A4, which I needed for work the next morning. I offered to pay for this service, of course. They refused, and said i should go into the city centre (three stops on the metro). I was quite surprised by this. I then asked the next morning (with a different front desk operator) and, of course, they did it free of charge, and with a smile. This was quite surprising!

Property was tired and out of date and staff when leaving was very unhelpful and told me that I should have done the check out the night before despite me having told staff that I was cutting my stay short by a day and providing all paperwork and credit card when requested at check in. I do not think.i will be returning.

Great hotel

Perfect, charming hotel. It was a very convenient location for us - close to my office near the European Commission and easy for my husband to get to the main tourist areas in the city by metro. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was clean and well maintained. We checked in very late in the middle of the night and the front desk staff member who checked us in was incredibly kind and moved us through the process swiftly. He gave such a warm welcome to two weary travelers - we were very grateful. We will definitely stay again if we’re ever in Brussels.

Ok for a short business stay but...

Service was very good, the reception staff are very professional and breakfast excellent. However, my room was in need or a refit. The bathroom basin was cracked in several places and the carpet, although clean, was very worn, as were most of the furnishings. Not a 4 star, more like three and not worth the 4 star premium price.

Firstly at check in the receptionist called Denis never acknowledged me just took my passport without even hello or welcome.
On the website I have booked a city room which clearly stated I had air-conditioning.
When I got to the room alas there was no air-conditioning so when I went back down to reception I was told that I would have to pay €25 extra for air conditioning With matter of fact attitude.

Unfortunately it seems that this property gives Cheaptickets clients the worst rooms they have. I got one thru you and one they Bioking.com. The difference was incredible! The cheapticket room had no working AC, was very hot, the TV guide did not match the program, etc. the room faced the street and therefore was very loud when opening the windows for air.
The other room was a standard hotel room with AC and renovated bathroom.
The check in process was very confusing as the staff was handling another guest at the same time. He made some mistakes and when I tried to point it out to him, he laughed. The next morning the check out when figured it out.
The staff at the breakfast area was helpful and service oriented.
The location of this property, next to the EU buildings, is the best asset

We’ve stayed one night at this hotel. The location is great, nice area close to the city centre (25 minutes walking). The room was clean and nice, underground parking free of charge. I do not know about breakfast as we did not have it at the hotel. The old gentleman receptionist is not friendly at all and I think he needs some customer service training. Other than that, it was a good experience.

STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

I booked this hotel stay in the summer during a heat wave. When we checked into the room it looked nothing like the photos. This was not a huge issue, but it was significantly more dated than expected and the room cleanliness was questionable.

We noticed that there was not air conditioning in the room or a fan. Given the condition of the room and the temperature we went down stairs to ask to be moved. The front desk associate said that the hotel was fully booked so we could not be moved. At that point I asked to cancel my reservation with a refund for two of the three nights due to these circumstances (which would have been the charge had we never checked in). I felt this was fair given we spent 10 minutes in the room before we decided to book else where.

We then spoke with the Sales Manager who offered us to move rooms. This was not helpful since we had already booked another room given the front desk associate said that they were full. The sales manager eventually agreed to refund one night of the three night stay, which I do not think was fair but the hotel was so uncomfortable I just wanted to leave.

When I came home I contacted Orbitz regarding the refund and they were not able to agree with the hotel to issue the refund. Ultimately it was a horrible experience with the staff of the hotel who at this point literally have both lied to me, and with the quality of the hotel; which was also misleading.

STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE.

A good choice!

This is a very nice and clean hotel and is close to many restaurants! The distance to the Grand Place is very walkable! If we had any complaint, it would be that breakfast was 18 Euro per person and it was honestly not worth that price. Other than that, the hotel was clean, cute, and in a good location. Would recommend!

Dated room, some things updated but the hair dryer in bathroom is just too old. Using your mouth would be quicker for drying your hair.
Heating wasn't working so at night it was quite cold. Dampness on ceiling in hallway in the room.
Wifi wasn't working at all, neither in room or in lounge/reception area.
Pleasant staff at reception.
Definitely not a 4 * hotel

This is a TWO star hotel. This is NOT a 4 star hotel. One member of staff on at all times!! What a joke. This place is a 1970s dilapidated 2 star kip. They should be shot. I’m suing them.

The Toilet seat was broken,The kettle I had to keep my finger on the switch to boil ,first night only given 1 coffee sachet when it was a twin so only had 1 cup second night given 2 sachet's I think a few more would be appreciated.Needs a little bit of maintenance as some paint work was peeling,Otherwise very good location .

Lovely hotel but not advertised correctly.
Very hot stay and in general it advertises air con. The city rooms do not have air con yet the club rooms do! Main reason for booking a hotel is that it has air con. Free parking also is available but only if space! This is in very small print! Another reason for booking yet we had to pay street parking daily at €13.50! Good room for a city break in terms of size, cleanliness and amenities. Nice beds/pillows. Easy for centre on metro and lots restaurants around. Perfect if not as falsely advertised as it was for parking and air con!

Stayed here for old times’ sake and it was perfectly fine, if a little tired round the edges. The shower was rather disastrous - more ended up on the floor than in the bath, so a lot of mopping was required.
Parking is an asset.

Same as in Arnhem. One has to request air conditioning which I thought was standard. Brussels was 104 degrees and there was no air conditioning in our room. The weather did eventually cool down but not enough in the room with the windows open all night. Great breakfast and we were able to get a parking spot in the garage.

Very good location. A few parking spaces under the hotel. A few more outside. But with the Metro only five-minute walk, why take a car? Comfortable room & bed. Even had an electric fan supplied when the temperature went too high for most of us. Great clean and easy to get around city. Lots of parks to explore if you miss green spaces too.

I booked this hotel since they promised a free parking, when i arrived they said their parking is full and i should go and look for a paid one, the AC wasn't working at all and it was very hot, the receptionist was very rude and asked me to live with it and open the window!! Me and my wife we found 4 BEDBUGS in our bed!!!! The smell of the toilet is all around the room. Simply our stay was horrible.

On arrival, we were disappointed by the parking. We thought (as written on the advert) that it was free. The hotel car park was full so we had to pay £10.
we had problems with the room: air condiitioning was not working,( the réception Said not working for whole hotel) the shower hoze was broken so it was very difficult to get a proper shower. During the night we had bed bugs, my partner was bitten badly and had to go to réception to ask for a new room. There after explaining the case and also that we would not stay in this room, the staff (not very friendly and shouting that the hotel was full) finally accepted to find another room for us. We had to move in the middle of the night (2am) to a new hotel and had to check in Alain. It was a bad experience in the hotel. We are seeking for legal advice.

Good value for your money!

Great location close to a few restaurant, they do close at 2300 hrs so plan your dinners. Hotel has a private parking but spaces are limited. Parking outside the hotel is public have to pay but not to bad. Room are good, quite and small, the WIFI is not the greatest it needs a better router to get better service in the rooms, but great place to stay in Brussels

“New” hotel not new - but good.

With a name like “New” Hotel Charlemagne, one might think the hotel to be, say, new! Spoiler alert: it’s not new. There have been a few coats of paint over the years, some scuff marks on the wallpaper and a few small patches on the wall where they’ve upgraded the lights over the years. So it’s not new. But, what matters most at a hotel are bed and bathroom. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were bright white and clean. Everything in the bathroom worked. So a good hotel overall — just don’t expect it to be new!

Worth the price i received on Expedia. Had a good stay. 2mins to the Metro station. And 5min on the metro to the city center.

Only thing i missed was an espresso for breakfast. However learnt on the last day that they can give you one on request as the machine is in the kitchen.

Overall EXCELLENT.

The bathroom layout was uncomfortable. The tub was under a slanted roof and there was no shower curtain, so to take a shower one had to stand in a corner to avoid hitting the head on the roof or flooding the bathroom.
The breakfast buffet was OK, but coffee was awful (jugs of Nescafe’ in hot water).

We arrived early Friday morning and greeted by a rather grumpy guy on reception. We could leave our cases until check in. We sat down for a while and ordered a hot drink (ive realised you cant get english tea in Brussels with fresh milk). At2pm we went to our room. The headboard was worn as was the carpet. The hairdryer didnt work and neither did the kettle. The pillows were awful and have crippled our necks 2 days later we are still in agony.
On a positive the room was clean the bed comfy and bathroom good the locationis great a short walk from Schuman metro. The area is quiet and a nice park at the end of the road and the EU commision at the other end.
We had a great weekend but with a few improvements the hotel couldve been better

The location of the hotel is great - 250 m from the Schuman metro station, meters from the European Commission building, 15 minutes from the central train station, 20 minutes from the city center... what else could one need.

Quiet area with very moderate traffic (at least in August), clean, spacious and comfortable rooms - but that bathtub glass curtain... really poor design, and no drainage on the floor, so every water there has to be taken care of by housekeeping - and you have practically no chance of taking a shower without getting the floor wet - even with all measures taken! :-)

Wifi authentication is very easy, trouble is the connection is not stable - sometimes very fast, sometimes very slow... then in a few minutes good again. Strange.

Overall the experience is good, and If it wasn't for the bathroom that was turning into a lake every time I decided to take a shower, and the air conditioner that made regular pupping noises while being turned off :-), I would give this hotel at least 4 stars for everything - but these 2 details pretty much spoiled the impression.

Budget hotel in Quiet area.

This hotel is as cheap as it gets in the european quarter. Across the road from the Schuman metro, Berlaymont building. The hotel staff are very friendly and efficient and speak english. The room and bathroom were large enough for two people. The mini fridge is handy for storing fresh food and beer.There are 2 supermarkets selling fresh produce, 5 minutes walk down to the end of rue Steven unless you want to pay £12 for breakfast. The area is very quiet, there are several irish bars and restaurants here but prices are on average 4.5 euro for a pint and 16euro + for a evening meal. Buy a mobib card 5 euro, and load with ten journey's for 14 euro is the cheapest travel option.

Very nice hotel with impeccable service, less than 15 minutes from the city centre and all major rail termini. Only thing of note from myself is that I'm 178cm tall and the shower was about 180cm high so if your on the tall side showering could be interesting. All in all a very good option for staying in Brussels.

Great Expectation Greater Dissapointments

The room was made everyday but not cleaned everyday. There were bugs in the room all over the walls. There was a note saying to put towels in the floor if you wanted them replaced, but they replaced all the towels everyday whether or not you wanted them replaced. Which is bad for the environment because I can use the same towel 3 days in a row and didn’t need them replaced every day. The bedsheets weren’t cleaned properly, there were stains on them and the duvet. The pillows were very comfortable, they would flatten during the night and were the same level as the bed. Would not go back.

Good overall but with quality issues to solve !

Great location and the hotel was good value when I stayed - however there were problems at check-in. My allocated room was not ready and the doors were open. After changing room a slightly irate cleaner knocked my door and accused me of smoking in the previous room ! Were was the communication with reception ? To be fair they did waive the city tax on my bill. The safe was unreliable in operation and a few other fittings were slightly archaic.

Breakfast overpriced and cooked option lacked things like mushrooms and tomatoes. Mini pork sausages and fatty bacon were poor quality.

The reception was good the room was also clean but it did not have any facility.The bathroom door did not have a lock.There was not any mobile charger plug in the room .we are 3 people but they only gave one 200ml water every day.The sink was blocked.I stayed 3 nights it was very hot weather but no Air condition no fan.no iron.NO chance for a 4 STAR HOTEL.i think it is just hotel i am sorry we are not happy.

Convenient but looking a little tired.

Very convenient for the European quarter and the Metro. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Condition of hotel is a little run-down. Reasonable value compared to other hotels in the same area.

its a comfortable hotel but way over priced and i found them very unhelpful when i changed my dates although it was within the permitted period. the older man on the reception desk was particularly helpful
