Brilliant location but I paid for a deluxe double room and it was really small. No view out of window (looked out to a concrete wall) and the room was very dark.

Property was tucked away in an alley but it was nice and quiet. Elevator is small. Place was clean but the bench at the end of the one of the beds was a bit wobbly so we didn't allow the kids to sit on it. Staff was very good and the two that I spoke to did speak English so that was appreciated. Lots of cafes and restaurants around. Within a 4 minute was to bus tour stops. Would stay here again

Desk staff were wonderful. The hotel’s up to date with outstanding air conditioning. Layout is a little confusing at first (e.g. there are two staircases) but single elevator gets you to all floors. Area is great for shopping (stores are by the nearby opera) and the area has all sitters of very good restaurants.

Overall, a great hotel. The rooms are a little small, but none issue for my wife and I.

The hotel is close to everything you would want to see in Paris. Of course, the food in the area was very good, including the breakfast buffet at the hotel.

I would definitely stay here again.

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was quiet, albeit rather small. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its central location made it easy to explore the city on foot. The only downside was the rather limited breakfast options. Overall, a good choice for a stay in the city center.

great location & hotel staff, but a lot to improve

great location, very nice staff and a nice breakfast buffet. rooms are too dark, with no sun light at all (we stayed on the left side), people smoking in other rooms made it impossible to open the window. the bed is very uncomfortable (very cheap mattress). and since there is only one entrance to the hotel, you will often find yourself entering or leaving the elevator when they take out the trash!

Nice clean hotel, great location with clean rooms and friendly staff. They had an issue with the lift when we stayed, offered us to find another hotel or give us a discount. We stayed and they refunded us the discount as promised, no chasing, no hassle unlike most airlines and hotel chains. I would stay there again. Thanks.

My gf and I spent 6 nights in this hotel. The location is perfect.
Nice room and services.

For improvement : some basic utensils should be ready in room e.g glasses for drinking and wine opener. I needed to request for it in two different nights which i believe those should have been ready in room.

Good Hotel With Spotty WiFi

Overall, the hotel is nice as is the area around it. The service is attentive and the rooms are clean. The only major downside is that the WiFi service was spotty. I had difficulty connecting to webinars that I needed to participate in. For this reason, I would not stay in the hotel again unless the WiFi connectivity was improved significantly.

The room was typical European size (small) but very beautiful and comfortable. The front desk reception was so friendly and made me feel very special. I read in other reviews that you must ring a buzzer at street level and then come up the elevator to reception on the 1st floor to check in (after that, your room key will open the door and elevator) and that was very helpful to know in advance. I very much enjoyed my stay at The Chess.

Very nice hotel in a well located place. We were near plenty of restaurants and a short walking distance from the Opera Garnier (where the phantom of the opera was inspired from). The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally spacious for a hotel in Paris. Free movie channels were provided and good internet. There were washcloths in the bathroom (unusual in France), free slippers and bath robes (in the larger rooms). The air-conditioning worked well even in mid-season. I recommend this place to all who are wanting to visit Paris without compromising comfort and paying a fortune.

We were impressed with the Chess Hotel, which was clean and very comfortable. In particular, the hotel provided local cell phones which we could use around town to navigate the city. The rooms were well-appointed and modern. We stayed for a total of 9 nights while visiting Paris. I would definitely recommend the Chess Hotel to others.

The staff were always helpful and so friendly, offering advice on what to do and how to get there. Our room was small but that is pretty typical of Paris hotels and the price was so reasonable. The bathroom is very nice and clean with ample hot water for 2 showers back-to-back.

Boutique Hotel in the Prime Location! Shopping, Restaurant, cafe, bar and museum just step away, staff are polite, nice and helpful. I travel to Europe every year, Paris always is my gate to Europe, Usually I stay in Paris at least 5 days during my trip, Hotel Chess will be my home whenever I travel to Paris.

Well located, renovation required!

Very Paris sized bedrooms ie enough room to fit a bed in and not much else. Bathroom was bigger than normal and plenty of amenities provided.

The location (close to L’Opera) so a good variety of restaurants and bar/cafes to choose from so made up for the lack of bar in the Hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff.

I would be happy to stay here again for a night or two especially if you plan to eat out and use the hotel as a bedroom only. Any longer than that would probably feel claustrophobic!

In summary a good business Hotel and although far from cheap (where in Paris is cheap?) a better alternative to the ridiculously price big hotel chains.

The breakfast I would not recommend you think being in Paris that the cheese and cold cuts would be great, awful and not very fresh,frozen orange juice and no variety. The scramble eggs tasted like the were boiled and nothing on them, the fruit was a joke.I have been to a lot of boutique hotels, this breakfast was very disappointing.

Central location and excellent accommodation.

The hotel is well located and easy to find. Good connections by metro or bus. The staff are friendly and very helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a good selection of choices for breakfast. The hotel location meant we could stay in the heart of the city but it was also a place to escape the hustle and bustle at the end of the day. There was good air conditioning in the rooms. We loved the stylish decor.

4 Nights in Paris (July)

Pros:
Nicely decorated hotel. New furniture and clean rooms. I really enjoyed the location and the very cold air conditioning.

Cons:
1. Small rooms.
2. No in room coffee makers.
3. I was hearing people slamming doors all night long. The rooms are not sound proof. I was hearing people walking in the above room clearly. I could even hear people talking in the next room.
4. Road construction work outside the hotel was also disturbing.

Overall its a noisy place to stay in.

Lovely family friendly hotel in a great location

We had a great experience staying in connecting rooms. Our room had a tiny private hallway as part of the connection, and our 6 and 9 year old daughters loved having their own sleeping space that seemed far away. (It was not far. It was two adult walking steps.) The location is great, and the staff were kind and extremely helpful. The gentleman who checked us in could not have been nicer. The hotel rooms are recently remodeled, and having two full bathrooms for our family of four made the trip a lot more comfortable. I would stay here again.

The room was NOTHING like advertised on any of the booking sites. It was small, dark and uncomfortable. There was absolutely no space to move around. There were no basic amenities like tea, coffee and biscuits, and you had to ask for an ironing board. Don't book it. It is just a very average 3-star hotel and not at all the glamorous, stylish place advertised.

Great size room and hotel for Paris - Queen bed are just like American queen bed. The room itself is a bit tight but manageable. Nicely decorated, beautiful hardwood floors in room - has nice mix of modern and old charm of Paris hotels with things like casement windows. Hotel staff just lovely and all spoke english. While it is not on a 'main road', the little road it is down is very safe and it is literally 20 steps from the 'main street' so it does not feel like you are heading down an unsafe side road at all. Highly recomment.

I typically do not sleep well when I am away from home. It was our first time to Paris to celebrate my husband's birthday. However, I was well rested all five mornings I woke up at the Chess hotel. The rooms were modern with comfy beds. We had two connecting rooms behind a third door for a family of four. It's one of the best stays I had in a hotel. Virginia, Caroline, and Renaud provided excellent service. All of our requests were welcomed. Thank you Virginia and Caroline for all your great suggestions about where to eat and explore. We especially enjoyed the croissant shops.

Very friendly hotel on a quiet side street well located close to the Opèra. Small but comfortable room, stylishly appointed with good shower room. A brilliant extra touch given by the hotel is a smartphone for you to take out and about with you and use with free calls and data, saving your own roaming costs. The continental breakfast buffet and small bar area are also very nice.

I've stayed at the Hyatt Regency Madeleine, Park Hyatt Vendome, and a few others that averaged $700+ per night (on business). This is the friendliest hotel I've stayed at in a long time. My stay in Paris was exceptional and the hotel was a large part of the equation. I compliment the staff for the comfort of my stay.

We stayed three nights and found the hotel to be very comfortable. Location is excellent, staff and bed and bathroom alll excellent. A couple of small things, the downlight above our bed there was a bulb missing, and the bathroom door had a tendency to roll open. But we didn't raise this with the staff as they weren't a great issue to us. When we requested bottle opener and ice they were quick and accommodating. Could not recommend more!

The Perfect Stay @ Paris

The hotel is PERFECTLY located a block away from the Opera Garnier. It is very close to the Louvre, Madelaine, Plaza de la Concordia, Champs Elysees, and many more... The rooms are a decent size and the beds are SUPER comfortable.. STAY HERE...They even give you a cel phone for local and International calls that also has internet.

The hotel is very 'compact'' as a lot of the buildings are the original old ones, converted into hotels. Saying that, the hotel is very modern inside, and also very clean! Staff were very helpful and polite.
Not a easy hotel if you have large suitcases ( as we did) or more than one each. But would stay again.

Very ordinary trying to pass itself off as special

We booked this hotel and upgraded to deluxe based on the portrayals of the room on the website. We arrived at 5:30 in the evening from Avignon only to be told that there was an \"unexpected incident\" and that a deluxe room was not available, but that they would give us a $159 credit for other amenities we could available ourselves of at the hotel. When I walked into the room there were two workmen working feverishly under the desk saying \"15 more minutes\" in Italian. We had a dinner with guests in a couple of hours, so it would have been difficult to secure another room in another hotel at that point. Disappointing is how I would describe the room and the experience. We really appreciated the full length mirror that was located outside of the room in the hallway (other than the bathroom mirror, there was none in the room.
