The staff make this hotel. They are wonderful, polite, engaging and charming. Nothing is too much effort.
The beach is stunning and empty and without any hawkers which makes it totally safe to leave your bag by your lounger whilst you swim etc.

Staff was very short, none informative nor were details or guidance given to tourist/us.

Communication between drivers and front desk concierge was terrible. The coat per night for the stay would suggest 5 star service, It was not.

With that being said, we expected much better level of service, communication for travelers and direction considering cost of stay. Would not recommend.

I had a wonderful and relaxing time at La Samanna. The staff is what truly makes this place special. They are very attentive and ensure that you are well taken care of. My favorite dining experience was at the Italian restaurant, where the food was excellent overall. I also had a massage at the spa, which was incredible thanks to the experienced staff. The beach is stunning, with crystal clear waters and soft sand at your feet. If you're looking for a quiet and rejuvenating getaway, I highly recommend La Samanna. I will definitely be returning!

Absolutely fantastic in every way. We spent every day on the beach - our room had a direct access to the beach and it was super easy. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, the staff was very friendly and accommodating- we especially enjoyed the staff who worked at the beach: Nico, Mathias and Ansel were excellent. Altogether a speechless experience.

This was the most wonderful vacation! The entire staff was so friendly and helpful. I have never experienced this level of customer service on any other vacation. Food and drinks were amazing from the restaurants to the beach and pool.
The only criticism was that we had a plunge pool room and it’s not a plunge pool, it’s a hot tub. This was one of those vacations that you are sad to leave and can’t wait to come back.

If I can say there is a Heaven on earth, this is definitely the place! Starting from the General Manager Eleonore, she greeted us with an upgraded room with presents in it as a surprise! She also checked in on us daily to ask if we needed anything. As for the rest of the staff, Emmanuel, Rosie, Mili, Naima, Alessandro, and others i have forgotten their names, so sorry, they made our stay so joyous and definitely we will come back again soon. Thank God for people and places like this!

Like all Belmond hotels, their signature is welcoming, gracious, engaging personnel from check-in to check-out. La Samanna was no exception and the Caribbean charm of the staff added an extra dimension.
We stayed 3 nights at La Samanna before taking a cruise and found the hotel lovely, its facilities excellent, cuisine outstanding and ambience very relaxing.
Without fail, every engagement with the resort staff was a truly positive experience - Victor and Sabrina prior to arrival; Claude at check-in; Rosie and Eddy at D'Oursin; Pierre at the lobby bar; Amy, Mili, francois and Neomie at breakfast; Axel, Nico, Matthieu, Alexandre, Rommel, Herbert, Michele, Monique, Elika and Stephanie at Le Plaj.

With a panorama view of the Caribbean from my room, how can that be surpassed? Staff is very attentive to just about anything a guest could require. Excursions can be booked with the concierge if you want to explore the island. Otherwise the resort has a nice selection of restaurants including one with a Michelin star chef; 2 pools and beach paraphernalia. Quiet and low key.

Our suite D11 was fabulous with an amazing terrace overlooking the beach and ocean. We would have liked the shutters closed at night to stop the sun coming into the rooms in the morning but this was not done despite our request. The beach is breathtaking and we enjoyed jet skis on the ocean. The dry brown grass is a shame and takes away from the overall charm of the resort. The restaurant L’oursin, despite many claims of a 2 star Michelin chef, was very underwhelming with odd choices in our opinion. However the view from the terrace was spectacular and Alessandro charming and knowledgeable about the wine. We would have liked to try the Italian restaurant but it was closed for dinner on both nights that we were there …

Amazing Honeymoon

Spent part of our honeymoon here and had the absolute best time. The room was nice, the grounds are beautiful, the beach is gorgeous, the service was unbeatable, and the staff couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful. We also loved the heated pool. Will absolutely be back again!

our stay at La Samanna was one of our best vacations ever....from the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. We were greeted so warmly by Emanuel at reception who gave us all the details of the resort as well as an escort and guided tour of our room. Lunch at the Beach Bar was delicious while we waited for our room to be ready- dinner that night at the hotel too at L'Oursin which was incredible with outstanding service. The concierge had arranged our other dinners in advance off the property and they were very good. We took taxis to go to those. The resort is very quiet which we loved and very secluded. We felt like we were on a private island. The beach and ocean were gorgeous just steps away from our room. The service on the beach was fantastic from day 1- our waiter Nico made sure our chairs were set up with fresh towels every day and he and the other servers Matthias and Jimmy were so friendly and attentive- we were always taken care of. We only used the pool once -very nice Breakfast every day in the hotel was so worth it- fresh fruit, eggs, crispy bacon, salmon, the most delicious french pastries and the best coffee I've ever had. The views from anywhere you sat-gorgeous. The property is very hilly so be prepared to walk up and down hills -but they will send a golf cart for you if it's too much. The only complaint I had was the size of the room-although a very pretty and tasteful room there was not much room for luggage or place to put clothes-we will be back!!

Paid almost $1,000 a night, room size is terribly small, some furniture items are damaged/broken, there's not even a chair or a desk to do some work, the room they gave us is next to an aisle across from the restaurant so there's a lot of traffic, I was shocked to see this kind of room for a Belmond property, The Hilton/Marriott probably has much more nicer room size. The beach and restaurant are ok, but the room quality, forget about it, I feel that Ive been ripped off

Beautiful, but bad service

We stayed here for three nights for a short honeymoon. I love luxury resorts, but this one was a little too quiet for us (except the screaming children). Most of the clients were older, or families with young children. The service was extremely slow. The food was below average. But the views were beautiful, and the resort was really pretty. Richard and Nicholas were awesome down at the beach:)

Communication with scheduling prior to arrival was pretty bad also:/

Staff was terrible . Concierge had all of my arrangements set for the wrong day and when I showed her the emails showing she set it up for the correct day she said it’s a misunderstanding . Then they never called a cab for my transfer which I almost missed and then lied about it and said well you can always go to st barts tomororw . Also lost my gf COVID test and almost missed my boat . Horrible experience . The food was also horrible . Would never go back even if it was for free

Wonderful property and staff from start to finish, with individualized attention. The director of guest services, Matthias, is personable and attentive, and seems to look out for each and every guest's needs! He oversees a staff that is uniformly pleasant, smiling, and always willing to help. Well maintained grounds. Two beautiful and spotless pools. The beach is as perfect as the pictures, and the water was turquoise and warm. Food and drink service on the beach and at the pools is delicious and prompt, thanks to the pleasant and hard-working attendants. Special shout out to Carla and Amy at the beach and pool, as well as Sarabhi, and Thico (spelling?) at the front entrance. Use of non motorized beach equipment is complementary, as is use of the well kept grass tennis courts. The fitness center is spotlessly clean and up to date, with a large variety of weight machines as well as treadmills, stair steppers, and ellipticals. (Never used the TechnoGym equipment before, but I really liked it. Very ergonomic.) Only facet of our stay that fell a short of expectations was dinner at L'Oursin, the property's fine dining experience. The setting is perfect, but the food and service didn't live up to the rest of our stay, which was an overall exceptional experience. Thank you!

Located directly on the beach with lovely gardens we enjoyed a great 3 night stay prior to going on a cruise with Seabourn. The staff were always attentive and helpful but not over bearing. Food was good with excellent breakfasts and beach side lunch. We look forward to going back.

Extraordinary in every way!

St. Martin as an island is still a long way from what it was before Hurricane Irma. But Belmond La Samanna is an oasis and extraordinary in every way. Service was fabulous, our room was clean and well-appointed and overlooked the ocean, the food was excellent especially the breakfast buffet, and the people kind and very helpful. The beach was private and the attendants on the beach very attentive. Very relaxing and a great way to celebrate a big anniversary. We will definitely come back.

La Samana is an old and tired facility with its Glory Days well behind it,somewhere in the '70's or '80's I had a problem with their facility, their food and their financial policies. Rooms were dated, nothing out of the ordinary. Food was pedestrian. Room costs are considerable,but you know that already.I get that. However, facility is a tired vestige Gratefully a higher power created the beaches.Other than that...not much. Food was stunningly boring...buffet breakfast ,,ordinary...dinner, disappointing. With so many choices of places to eat on St Martin. eating here should be your last choice.. Stunning how ordinary and commonplace this food and place was.
My other issue with La Samana was my inability to secure a refund for a 5 day stay that turned into a 4 day stay. I had a reservation made by Expedia that was pre paid. It was a 5 night reservation. I fell ill, and had to depart 1 night earlier. La Samana refused to refund the 1 night I did not stay, despite Expedia's best efforts to secure such. They refused to refund the 1 night and refused to even answer a letter I wrote. Truly stunning. These rooms,as you can see can run thousands of dollars a night and to refuse a refund or even a response is...well frankly, worth writing a review to hopefully influence and convince at least one,,,just one traveler not to venture to this ill-responsible, over priced, out dated money grabbling institution. STAY AWAY.

Amazing room on beach

Wonderful, relaxing, beachfront room with comfortable king bed. We spent all our time on the beach, but the two pools looked lovely. Well maintained, quiet surroundings with no loud kids or people at all. Front desk staff was excellent. We had snacks but not dinner and it was okay. My one complaint is the food and drink were crazy overpriced. I realize it's vacation, but $18 for a cocktail is gouging. There is a market down the road so you can buy your own for the room instead. Other than that, we plan on coming back. Great place.

A lot of things I recently read were simply not true. TVs worked, biting bugs at a minimum ( a few mosquitoes), room condition excellent. We had a wonderful stay . The employees were fantastic and absolutely outstanding . My one criticism is that the food on site is quite expensive, there is one really nice restaurant and one nice but expensive wine cellar restaurant. Overall I highly recommend this hotel!!

Absolute First Class Resort

This was our first visit to the Belmond La Samanna resort and we have to say we could not be more impressed. We stayed in a suite overlooking the ocean and with a private plunge pool, covered rooftop gazebo and amazing views… it was truly an amazing experience. Lounging on the rooftop with a fine bottle of wine, a cheese assortment and the one I love made this one of our best visits to St. Martin. The amenities are second to none and something we always look for in a resort is the fitness facilities. La Samanna has a gym that would make most private clubs jealous and we took advantage of that every day of our stay. We also enjoyed a private dinner on the beach during our stay and the personal service and delicious fare made it an incredible visit that we hope to repeat in the future.

You won't ever want to leave the hotel!

Fantastic architecture, right on the beach, and probably the best beach on the island.
Rooms are not particularly spacious, but beautiful, clean and renovated, with nice beach front terraces. You'll probably be out of your room anyways!
We loved the pools and water sport facilities, with great service. Breakfast buffet was reasonable, but a bit pricey for its quality.
We could hear a little bit our neighbors (and their TV), which is something that could be improved. We would have also loved that our room was checked and made up more frequently.
Overall, we liked our stay very much and would love to return.

Rocks in the beach!

The beach was full of rocks! They say that this happens some months every year and in the next weeks the sand will come back. They say that that's a natural thing but I think that it is very important to be advised of that before booking. Although there are two swiming pools, there is people -like my wife and I- that prefer to go to the beach.

People at two different restaurants outside confirmed us about this sand issue.

At this time, in this part of the island, if you go to the ocean all your steps will be on rocks or a huge rock platform.

If the sand really comes back as they say it would be the perfect place.

Well run, wonderfully located on a great beach

We booked the hotel for a short honeymoon and it was ideal. The beach is truly exceptional, undeveloped and with a wonderful walk of 3,455 steps (!) to the end of the bay, but one can walk beyond into the next bay. We didn't even go to the main body of the hotel after our first day as the food prices are higher than anywhere I have been and we work in Manhattan and London. $25 for every dessert, $26 for a simple salad, main courses $50+ for example. But the hotel food was good with glorious views. So then we went to the nearby town and had breakfasts there and had great salads of our own on our private terrace and ate at local restaurants nearby in the evening - St Martin is truly the food capital of the Caribbean. Hotel staff helpful. Beach service is good and as soon as one sits down a large bottle of chilled water is brought. Three good tennis courts. Ocean view rooms are not big but have a nice terrace. A car was very useful. We hope to return.

Location, Location, Location

When we arrived at the hotel the staff were ready to take our bags and get us checked in right away. The room had a beautiful view of the beach. The room was clean and just as described. The Concierge staff were all very polite and helpful. They took care of every request for transportation, dining recommendations and events. The hotel restaurants were all excellent. We did dine off the property a few nights and all the restaurants were very good.

A Caribbean resort doesn't get better than this

Everything about this experience was superb with one minor exception. Music played at the beach bar was way too loud and not to our liking. I would rather have heard the sound of the waves.

Best hotel on the island

What an amazing setting. The hotel sits up on a cliff adjacent to Baie Longue, the longest crescent beach on the island, in the Terres Basses area of French St. Martin. The French side is by far the most picturesque and this hotel has its prettiest setting. No other hotels to be seen, just palm trees and a scattering of one-story beach estates in the distance. The hotel was built in the 1970s and retains some of the original details (hand painted tiles in the bathrooms) while having been renovated with marble floors, so has a charming quirkiness to it that gives it character. The beach changes day by day depending on the currents. It was steep with large boulders in the section closest to the hotel when we first arrived, which we were told can happen during the stormy season, and two days later was reshaped into a broad gentle slope with no boulders to be seen. We walked the full length of the mile-long beach daily.

Rooms were comfortable with European style split a/c units, balconies overlooking the ocean, a real mini fridge (vs mini bar thank goodness) which was great for keeping yogurts, drinks, fruit, etc, because the hotel is located out of town. Recommend renting a car which is reasonable and parking is free! 10 mins from airport, 5 minutes from Dutch side, which is a bit cheap Vegas/Atlantic City by the Caribbean.

Staff was excellent overall. Often very responsive, sometimes a bit island speed. Standouts were Fanny at reception, Venise at breakfast.

Beautiful hotel on stunning beach

Our stay at LA Samanna was brief as we were en route to spend Christmas on another Islamd nearby. However we liked it so much that we would definitely come back to stay for longer next time. The hotel is situated in lovely tropical foliage and right on a stunning white sand beach.. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was wonderful and dinner delicious. The hotel has a lovely ambience and is beautifully maintained.

A Pic-Perfect Location !!!

Everything was one could dream of to have for vacation at La Samanna, such as the beautiful beach with amazing water, 2 fun pools, pleasant garden with relaxing housing/ rooms with spacious terrace.
Staff were very friendly in general. However I felt strongly that the food for both dinner and the breakfast don't worth for the costs. They were good, but as to the costs, they disappointed me. The food was fine but the staff weren't qualities to serve a \"fine dining\" experience,especially for dinner. The quality of breakfast was rather rough.... need to catch up.

Scenic view, attentive staff, friendly island

We could not have had a better stay on Saint Martin. The hotel grounds and views are just like the pictures - turquoise waters, clean white sand, Mediterranean architecture. The hotel is well-located on the French-Dutch border, making it easy to get a taxi to anywhere on the island quickly (which the concierge always booked for us). A few extras that made the view and service that much better: the roasted chicken at the beach bar cafe; the watersports staff (30 min jet ski on open water was a delight even for a non-swimmer); evening turn-down service; L'Occitane bath products; gift of a 6\" chocolate egg on Easter morning. This hotel far exceeded our expectations.

We have stayed in many resorts but La Samanna may be the best.This was our 37 anniversary and so it was wonderful when we were upgraded on arrival to a beautiful suite overlooking the most beautiful beach. The staff was great. Turn down service was fantastic no matter how late we went for dinner.

Beautiful, but watch for exchange rate shenanigans

We arrived at this truly beautiful place, & got a tour by a helpful staff member. Our suite was spotless, quiet with a gorgeous view of the sea. The lovely landscaping gave privacy to our balcony. A staircase to the roof enabled us to gaze at the stars after dark. A few minor annoyances show that facilities management could be improved: no large sun umbrella in the stand provided for it, broken stops on both adjustable chaise lounges, 1 room ceiling fan that wouldn't work. And the Trellis restaurant food was mediocre yet high-priced, with a disorganized waitstaff.
But what spoiled our experience was being put on guard by how this hotel deals with currency. On this French side of St. Martin, prices everywhere are in Euros, sometimes with dollars also shown. Final bills usually show both Euros and dollars. You can choose which currency to pay in cash, or Euros only with a credit card. At 5 different restaurants over 5 days, the exchange rate used on our bills ranged from $1.20=1 Euro to $1.16. Euro charges on my Visa card on the last day (the Euro was falling) came through at $1.14=1 Euro. But La Samanna's menu prices, which they insisted on posting only in dollars, used $1.35=1 Euro, subtly adding 13%, which you had to uncover for yourself. This exchange rate occurred in Apr 2011, Oct 2013, and was last seen briefly in July 2014. At checkout, I was told the hotel only made credit card charges in dollars. I had to insist hard on paying all charges in Euros on my Visa. You, too!
