Restaurant, pool bar , beach front buffet all of the staff was unpleasant, rude and disrespectful. The kids pool was smelling so bad . Even the taxi drivers outside omg so attitude . Buffet - food option were okay . Pizza place - the pizza was so hard even my 8 year old said mama they don’t know how to make pizza clearly . I don’t know
If the owners of sonesta take theses reviews seriously or no but they really gotta do with the attitude if their employees. Hospitality was poor . No cooperation. Food was late in restaurants everytime . No entertainment to be honest specially for kids . I have been to so many all inclusive places but here no fun .

The property was beautiful and the staff was great! The restaurant options were great and the food was very good, it was great having so many options to eat with the all inclusive package. The beach was beautiful watching the planes fly over the beach. Had an awesome massage. The Sonesta was in little town with shops and restaurants, I felt safe walking around. I will visit again.

When we got to the room it smelled so musty. The closest smelled so bad that We decided on just leaving our clothes in the suitcase. The following day we went back to front desk to get the room changed which they did. Really appreciated that. The food options sucks but the hotel location was good. I would only recommend the hotel for location nothing else.

Room was not clean a lot of sand on flooring on daily basis , in the bathroom the water flow out on flooring wet the bathroom also the sink water washing going down fast enough, There was no one at the pool serving drinks to guest I ask one bartender for drink he said there is no glasses.
Some of the food server are tired of serving guest. There was only beef and pork sausage on grill daily ( no chicken through out my stay)

The staff was very helpful! They are friendly and very accommodating. The beach was clean and a quiet place to relax during the early morning hours. The rooms on the third floor have an unpleasant odor. Everywhere else was very pleasant and clean. They had a very good variety of dining options. Some formal options as well as casual. The night life and entertainment are very lively!

The staff is tremendously rude,waited 4 hours for a room upon arrival,next day got removed from my room at 10am.to transfer and i sat in the lobby till 4pm.to get a room,mind you i was already checked in from the day before.They will NOT accomodate you at restaurants if you are a large group!Very,very terrible,loved Sint Maarteen but not the resort,and at the airport the were very rude at check in..too much attitude!

This property is okay if you are not planning to explore the island. Staff is very helpful, especially Sharon.
However, the property is over priced for what you get. Every evening it's the same menu. The alcoholic beverages are watered down with limited variety.
We stayed for 3 nights this time and our backs are hurting, because of the mattresses. I have stay at this place several times since they opened over the years but I'm very disappointed with the new management. It's just not worth it anymore.

For the price of the resort the rooms weren’t spectacular! The lighting was very dim, the shower wasn’t the cleanest, and the patio furniture wasn’t cleaned. The buffet was good but the food was always cold, there’s no top shelf liquor, and the cats being everywhere was a no for me because you could smell cat urine in certain areas.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. While St. Maarten and the surrounding islands were beautiful and enjoyable, the resort itself did not meet expectations at all.

One of the biggest issues was the lack of room cleaning. We were gone all day and returned expecting the rooms to be cleaned, but they were not. What made it even more frustrating was that the room had been decorated for birthday decor, yet basic housekeeping was still not completed. It felt like the resort focused on appearances but failed to provide the basic service guests expect.

The second room on our reservation also had a strong sewer smell, which made the stay uncomfortable and unpleasant. This should have been addressed immediately, but the front desk was unable to properly get the room situation figured out. The check-in and room assignment process was confusing and poorly handled.

On top of that, we were charged extra money for a third person staying in a room that has a maximum occupancy of four people. We were specifically told by guest services that this charge would be removed, but we were charged anyway. That is unacceptable and feels misleading.

Overall, my guests and I were not happy with the resort. We enjoyed St. Maarten and the nearby islands, but the service, room issues, housekeeping, and billing problems at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort made the stay frustrating and disappointing. I would not recommend this resort based on our experience.

My wife, 19 year old daughter, and I stayed for 4 nights during May 2026 and we absolutely love this place. The ocean views, pool bar, restaurants, short taxi ride to the airport, walking access to both Maho Beach and Mullet Bay Beach were all exceptional. We look forward to staying here again.

The bad - staff was rude mostly, except bartender at swim up bar. Our group was separated we were upgraded and they weren’t. If you’re on one side and try to go into the other even though they’re connected you will get yelled at by rude staff. The good - location is awesome. Right on the beach where the planes go in for landing, beach was amazing. Also right next to mullet bay beach that was beautiful. Food was pretty much really good for a resort, inc the buffet and has many options. You can take a bus anywhere for $2 you just have to walk on street for a bit, it is a friendly and safe island, mostly. Taxis will charge more but take you anywhere as quick as they can where the bussss stop for ppl along the way. All in all this was a good spot but if I were to do it again I would just stay at an air bnb.

This hotel was really disappointing. Besides being conveniently located near Maho Beach (to watch and experience the plane jet blast & landing), the Casino and restaurants, it really isn't worth the price paid.
*The bathroom walls are grimy and not cleaned properly.
*There was construction going on outside our balcony
*Thank God for Cedric at the front desk that helped us with a room change. The lady that checked us in wasn't very accommodating at all. The staff was clueless about anything we asked about, and obviously were not doing anything out of their scope of work.
*We saw a roach while waiting on our omelets run across the omelet station, and NONE of the staff were alarmed. In fact one of the staff members said due to everything being in the open, it's expected. That was it for me. I refused to eat anything else at the hotel. The food was subpar at most in any event.
*We paid extra for dinner at Azul and it was amazing. The menu was limited, but the food was delicious and the ambiance was top tier.
I feel slighted because I definitely didn't get value for my money. Upon check out I finally spoke with a Manager named Govanni (I think was his name) after two previous failed attempts. He was apologetic, but not at all surprised by my complaints. The roach at the buffet didn't surprise anyone I mentioned it to. That speaks volumes and that tells me that it's normalized at this resort.
First and last time booking this hotel.

I’m honestly very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. For a place that presents itself as a full-service resort, the lack of basic amenities is frustrating.

One of the biggest issues is that there is no room service available at night unless you’re staying on the 9th or 10th floor—which already costs more. What makes it worse is that they don’t even offer the option to pay extra for room service if you’re on a different floor. That kind of restriction feels unnecessary and inconvenient, especially for guests who expect flexibility during their stay.

The food overall was just average—nothing memorable or worth going out of your way for. On top of that, there’s no 24-hour sports bar or late-night food option anywhere on the resort, which really limits what you can do in the evenings.

For the price and expectations of a resort experience, this fell short. I expected better service, more accessibility, and at least some late-night options. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend staying here based on my experience.

It was a great pleasure to stay at this location. The room was clean all within . The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable of the area to help with any questions. The outside area was well kept and very relaxing. I did like the fact the no one was aplowed to enter the hotel passed the concierge desk without an arm band. The gym provided a good amount of exercise equipment . I was even more pleased with the staff cleaning the pool on a daily basis. The buffett restaurant had a lot of options for all meal times. Truly look forward to returning.

The Most hospitable staff were at check in they were very helpful and accommodating.
But the staff at the buffet and the BBQ pit were very rude.
Not friendly and definitely making us feel like we were bothering them.
Definitely could use customer service etiquette.

For the money that customers spend they definitely could be friendlier to the guest.
I have paid less at other resort’s and treated better than here.

Some of the staff was super helpful and attentive but some were the complete opposite. Foe example our room safe didnt work and after calling sever times, they replaced it 4 days later.

The restaurant staff is super slow, an order can take up to 2 hours for a burger and fries.

the experience itself is very relaxed and unassuming, here are no daily events or activities to write about.

They also charged us a daily fee for a folding bed which also took a day to come to our room.

The rooms were not as clean as I like. Good size though and we had a view of the pool, which we did not pay for.

Pools were nice and we had a great time at the pool bar. Beach is small, but clean.

The buffet was not good. They had the same thing almost every night and the meats were all way overcooked. The other restaurants were good.

The property was as described. The adult only area looked incredibly nice. The family area, which is where we stayed at the Sonesta. Maha was beautiful. The lobby was very clean and modern. The rooms were clean and modern. The beds were very small and a little bit hard. We needed to get some extra pillows and then everything seemed OK. The view of the ocean was beautiful and we could see the sunset. We had to call a couple of times to have her refrigerator restocked, but everyone was very kind. The room was cleaned every day. The pool bar was specific to just adults which was difficult because we had children with us who loved a swim party to get there piña colada‘s. They could go to the opposite side they had to get out of the pool. They loved the slides. Although they were quite small and it would be nice if they had a larger area. However, again it was as described in the kids had a great time. The beach was beautiful. The food was good. I loved that you did not have to make reservations for dinner. I wish there was more entertainment in the evenings for families. But what we saw was great. It was nice that some restaurants included you got to leave the resort and a walk down the main street. It definitely made it feel like more of a village vibe. We took advantage of the Pickleball court, which was also wonderful.

Rook was dirty, AC didn’t work, bed was crunchy noises when sleeping, the rain shower head didn’t work, the ceiling was falling down where the AC was. Service at breakfast at ocean terrace was awful. Servers do not communicate when seating people and seated us at a table that already had people seated at and they were at the buffet getting their plate. Service at lunch was not good. I will be sending a formal complaint to Sonesta regarding our issues. For $700/night the room better be clean and service impeccable. I’ve had better service and cleanliness at a holiday inn.

The Maho beach was nice, and being near airport was a plus.

Just got back from my stay at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and wanted to share a quick review!

Overall, I had a great time. The resort was very clean and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the stay even more enjoyable.

The food was okay, but I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t feel very authentic. I was really hoping for more Caribbean dishes and fresh local fruits, but most of the options seemed geared more toward tourists. When you visit an island, you really want to experience the local flavors too.
The nighttime entertainment could definitely be improved ,it wasn’t very engaging. Also, the teens club didn’t allow my 10-year-old to participate since it’s for ages 13+, which was a bit limiting for families with younger kids.

One small thing...the lobby AC was way too cold!

That said, despite a few drawbacks, it was still a great stay overall and I enjoyed my time there.

Huge cockroaches (found one crawling on our toothbrushes) also in buffet area, tried to tell front desk but they didn’t seem to care. All of us except one got very ill, spent whole travel day home in any bathroom we could find and daughter threw up on the plane. I can see the hotel is trying but when you spend $500+ a night you expect more. Good pool and drinks and it’s nice of them to let you explore property early before your room is ready.
