Room was clean and tidy. Could have done with more pillows but that was a personal preference and could have been addressed if I had asked for more so no reflection on the hotel. Breakfast was good, hot and plenty of choice. Items were replenished quickly and staff very efficient. Only complaint would be that there was not always someone at the welcome desk when assistance was required but when there was someone they were very helpful.

Moldy areas of window frame and the place smells musty as soon as you walk in. My son was having coughing fits.

Staff was mediocre (I get that English people aren't as warm and fuzzy as other people, but...I didn't feel like anyone was happy we were spending money there).

Great price, though, and beds are 8/10 comfy.

The room was cold and unheated upon arrival and it took a long time for the heater, (which had no instructions) to take the chill off. Outside temp was about 5 degrees. There was also only one pillow per person provided. We requested an additional heater and pillows for the second night. Other guests had the same issues. Nonetheless, staff were very helpful and courteous, breakfast options were good and beds were comfy.

With the exception of the bar / lounge area when you come in, it's quite a tired hotel that could do with a refresh. Rooms have very little storage for clothes, just a rail, and feel empty. Reception often unmanned and no bell or buzzer so can be quite a wait for anyone - presumably they're either temporarily or permanently running on a small staff. Food in the restaurant is not great and the service is slow. The tables are left uncleared at breakfast, so you just find one that no one has used yet. Comfy bed and powerful shower the positives, and reasonably priced but generally wouldn't recommend.

A disappointing stay

Carpark was said to be well lit. It isn’t. It was v dark with small spaces and didn’t feel safe walking through it solo. There was a £10 per night charge for using it. Ordered room service- pizza. Arrived cold. I asked for a glass for the water I ordered. The glass came and was filthy. The room was cold as heating and AC operated centrally. Took 4 calls to Reception before someone answered to get them to turn the room heating on. I won’t return.

The whole hotel had a rather odd musty smell. Opening our bedroom window didn’t help. It all seemed rather tired. Our bed was not comfortable, there were 3 pillows, 1 was lumpy, 1 felt as though it was filled with pebbles and the 3rd one was virtually flat.

The one positive was a good shower and good lighting in the bathroom.

We only stayed one night out of the two booked and paid for, mainly because it was just very, very dreary and depressing. £170.50 down the drain but we just didn’t want to spend another night there. A shame because its location is very good for us.

The hotel was clean well situated with parking on site. The room was spacious with a huge double bed, air conditioning and tea and coffee facilities. Shower was good although it didn’t have a moveable shower head which I prefer. If I had to pick something they could improve upon it would be the towels are not soft other than that it was great

The staff at this hotel were efficient and handled requests promptly, which we appreciated. However, the overall condition of the hotel left much to be desired. Our first room had visible mould in the toilet, which was concerning. We requested a room change, and to the staff’s credit, this was done quickly. Unfortunately, the second room had a faulty sink, which added to the sense that the hotel is in need of better maintenance. While the service was decent, the quality of the facilities did not meet expectations.

Staff service was beyond amazing, especially help with drinks and food after hours.
The room was clean and fresh and beds are comfortable.
The only negative is that the room had no air conditioning and we were there over the weekend thats just seen 30° days and still hot nights. The fan provided just simply wasn't enough to cool the room even slightly.
As a result I had probably the worst 2 nights sleep of my life. However we all knkw the british weather is a fickle thing so my stay may have been different under different temperatures.

Very disappointing:
1. Poo stains on towel, not been cleaned we were shocked and I have a picture as evidence. We asked a cleaner for another towel which never came therefore we shared 1 towel during our stay!

2. No telephone number in room for reception

3. We asked reception face to face 2x for an iron and ironing board which didn’t come within the hour. We then asked the cleaning team who provided the iron/ iron board but tutted when we asked as if it was a major inconvenience for them.
4. The Iron was cheap, in poor condition and clearly needs to be replaced

5. No alcohol the bar at all (rough time 1430) I asked for a pint and the bar man (Moses) said ‘system is down’ I asked if that was for all draft pumps which he replied ‘yes’, he didn’t give any other info. I then asked for 2 drinks from the fridge which were fine.

6. In return after event the bar was still not serving alcohol and had hardly anything left in the fridges. The barman was more helpful but he was struggling to find glasses for our drinks it wasn’t great service at all. There was also dirty dishes stacked behind the bar again very messy not professional

7. The pillows were very hard and uncomfortable, we only had 2 pillows in our room so 1 each. Need more pillows please, shame because the mattress was very comfortable

In all honesty it was very disappointing, I thought the Mercure had a good reputation but the fact we paid over £250 for the room without breakfast is disgraceful.

Check in- no information about hotel passed. When asked about breakfast we were told it was £10/11 - false it was £12.50.
We had to pay for parking! Totally unexpected, last time we stayed it was free.£10 a night.
TV and air con were not working but we were not informed.
Bathroom was mouldy.
Fire alarm went off on the second morning at 05.47- total shambles and goodness knows what happened- no staff around - no checks made to see if all guests were out, absolutely shocking. Member of staff at reception had no idea what was happening.
Will not be staying here again.

Very poor conditions for the price paid.

On arriving at the hotel room there were empty bottles of wine and glasses right outside the door. The key card to get in didn't work so I asked a member of staff to let me in and pointed out the empty bottles outside which he said he'd get cleared. I wanted to use the sink but the sink plug would not release after filling the sink full of water. I went down to reception to change rooms and on arrival at the original room the empty bottles and rubbish was still outside the door. I also had a bad night's sleep due to what I can only refer to as 'Chinese water torture'. There was dripping noise from within the wall in the bathroom which could be heard from the bed even with the bathroom door closed. I really do expect much more for the £72 a night that I payed.

Okay, but don’t think I will stay here again.

Room was big, but cold. Bed was huge and comfortable. Nice coffee machine, but not enough coffee pods or milk. Nice hot shower.
A bit noisy room with hearing the traffic. Paid over £100 for 1 night, would have expected parking to be free.
Menu very limited, not a lot of variety to choose and very expensive. Food was cold on delivery to the room and missed items.
Cooked breakfast was cold and not a lot of tables set up.
Coffee machine wasn’t working at breakfast. I had to ask to have this fixed to have a coffee.

I never like bad reviews but our stay at this hotel was not what it should have been.

arrived and checked in - went to our room to be met with a huge stench in the room went back to reception to ask if we can move because the room smelt .. reception reply “ok”

Anyway we moved to a new room .. on arrival there thought lovely , bigger room everything was great (we thought)
Went out for food came back to room to settle down just before midnight for the evening to find the toilet was over flowing all over the bathroom, feces and whatever else everywhere 🤮
My husband went to reception to ask someone to come sort it out and gave us another room key to move rooms. packing our room up at midnight with the toilet still overflowing … now Into the bedroom! Awful!
we moved rooms and thankfully other than a cold shower in the morning all was ok for our second night.
2night stay .. 3 different rooms
No sorry , no explanation or acknowledgment to how it all effected -nothing .. wasn’t even asked if we had a nice stay on check out.

But… the Barman and restaurant staff on Saturday 15th March - exceptional ❤️ really lovely and if reception staff were as professional the place would great .

Definitely wasn’t worth over £500 to stay and will never ever return !

Had a decent 2 night stay here, a couple of small issues like having to chase staff for an extra pillow as there weren’t any in the room like there has been on previous occasions I’ve stayed here and having to ask them to refill the shower gel as it was empty. Otherwise room was very comfortable and warm. I did find it a bit annoying that they now charge for parking and you have no discount on the charge if you’re staying in the hotel, personally think you should have a slight reduction.

Strong smell of cigarettes

The room we first checked into smelled so strong of cigarettes which they must have known as all the windows in the room were left wide open when it was 1 degrees outside. They gave us a new room (no apology) we had paid for the premium room. The fridge didn’t work, the tv volume button didn’t work and only 1 pillow each on the Kingsize bed looked lost.

Really nice hotel, front of house staff were available immediately, very polite and attentive. Bar staff were polite and friendly. The room was spotless, clean bed and bedding, bathroom was nice and fresh. Not a spec of dust to be seen. I was a little surprised to learn the hotel charge £10 a night for the car park. I don't remember this being disclosed when I booked. But overall I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

Brilliant stay, great hotel location

This was our first time staying in a Mercure. The location was ideal for us, close to the centre but not too busy and more reasonable price. The lounge and bar downstairs was lovely. Nice Christmas decorations too. Check in was easy and efficient. Room was great, very clean, everything we needed. The layout, tv and bathroom felt more modern and slightly more high end compared to a Premier Inn. We will definitely stay at a Mercure again!

Only 1 normal tea bag available, the rest were fruit teas

All in all this was a good place to stay. However, on Wednesday evening I was bit able to get a drink from the bar. I has to say quite loudly \"excuse me\" to get the attention of two people who were standing behind the bar and discussing a problem. Then when 8 asked fir a half of Guinness the man said \"there is no Guinness\" and reverted to his discussion. I gave up and went to my room.

Located outside of Cardiff city centre we arrived around 10pm after a long journey and pulled into a large car park more akin to a truck stop than a hotel, which felt a little unsafe to be honest.

We had 2 rooms booked and entered the open plan foyer to be greeted by a cacophony of different noises from various music & TV sources but not a single guest just 1 person sat at reception. Check in appeared to be a problem with the person looking after us unable to issue room keys until his supervisor came down, this took 10-15 minutes & all he could say was please take a seat which we really didn’t need after a long drive.- maybe a complimentary drink would have been better. The supervisor eventually sauntered in & we got our room keys.

On entering we found only 1 pillow person - totally unacceptable as I have an issue with my neck & a single pillow would leave me in agony so back to reception I went to make my request for more pillows. I was told it was the policy in their hotel but they might be able to find some. They did indeed have extra pillows, genuinely I have never seen a single pillow policy in a hotel WTAF!

Our room was ok apart from a couple of things, the cracked & chipped sink which had a horrid black line in it, the pedal bin with no lid and for some reason kettle etc left under the clothes rail, nowhere near a plug and in the way.

The other room only had a single working plug socket which was used by a light!

No vegetarian sausage alternatives at breakfast.
