Lovely location about a 5 min walk from central train station. 2 entrances - one on Mary street pedestran area and directly next to an LGBTQIA pub :), spitfire bbq across the street, convient access to 3 arcades and Cardiff Market, 15 min walk to the Cardiff castle.

Staff very friendly and the clean modern rooms (on 6th floor) are quiet with minimal street noise. Breakfast is a good variety of fry up items, cereal, fruit and yogurts.

Would stay here again!

The hotel is in a great place to explore Cardiff, literally a stones throw from the bus and train stations. There is a load of bars, cafes and shops right on the doorstep and the castle-which you must visit- is just up the road. The hotel is close to stadiums and theatres so is a great base to stay. Despite being in the heart of everything the room was really quiet and the bed just so comfortable. The room was clean, with an ironing board, iron, hairdryer and tea/coffee provided. The staff are lovely and helpful we will definitely stay here again.

Great location, right in the city centre - perfect if you’re staying for a night out! Parking isn’t far away and the hotel gave a discount code for the car park we used. We booked a superior room which was great. big room, comfortable bed, very clean, complimentary bottle of wine & tea/coffee. Staff were friendly and very helpful too

The hotel was an affordable and comfortable alternative to the international chains. Located 5 minutes from Cardiff Central train station and five minutes from the Cardiff Castle. Tons of bars and restaurants in easy walking distance. And the full English breakfast was solid as well.

A comfortable hotel in an amazing location, close to dozens of pubs and restaurants and a large downtown shopping mall. Just two blocks from the train station and a 15-minute walk to the castle. Lots of local buses. Only complaint was unreliable hot water, for which we deducted one star.

Stayed at The Royal for just 1 night but could have happily stayed for a wk. My bestie + I recieved a lovely welcome frm Reception Staff who promptly checked us in. Our room was bright, spacious + spotlessly clean throughout as can be said for every area of the hotel. Toiletrees + towells provided as well as a kettle, tea + coffee etc. Breakfast was delicious + plentiful serving fresh fruit/juices, cerial, yohurt, a choice of breads + jams along with an ample selection of hot food choices ude expect..my only bugbear was the mushrooms being tinned not fried but no bigee. I would defo stay again 👍

Lovely hotel, can't believe I haven't stayed her before when in Cadiff. Room was well kitted out (I \"worked from home\" while staying) and spacious. Bed was one of the comfiest hotel beds I have slept in. Staff were lovely and the breakfast world class. Location right in the middle of town is very convenient, esp when walking back after a few beers next door, but also very quiet with almost no street noise to be heard in the room. I have found my go-to hotel for my Cardiff stays now!

Nice people decent breakfast good location if you don’t have a car. Beds are squishy and the elevator to the check was out the entire time we were there which was about 3-4 steep staircases up. Front desk did offer help with our bags. But up and down on those stairs multiple times a day did take a bit out of us.

What a lovely hotel! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile and welcome. We had room 701 which was a fabulous room, spacious and clean. Loads of hot water, ideal for a bath. Even though it is in the centre of town we were not bothered by noise at all. The breakfast was great and catered well for GF. We have stayed at a few hotels in the past when visiting Cardiff but this will definitely be our choice in the future.

The breakfast was very good, especially the croissants. The first room I was given was poor, wifi didn’t work and was up on the 6th floor with no view (window was small and above my head) and the room was quite small. After requesting another room, this one was slightly better but the bed is shockingly noisy and the walls between rooms is paper thin, someone in the next room dropped something and it sounded like something fell off my bedside table I even looked around for what could have fallen it was so loud and sounded so close. Despite being a platinum VIP I was not provided the opportunity for a room upgrade so can’t comment on any other rooms. The hotel is on a main pedestrian road but I didn’t realize it’s surrounded by night clubs and gentleman’s clubs so it’s a little uncomfortable going out in the evening as there’s lots of people screaming shouting and everything else, however it was convenient. Decent hotel, if you’re not too fussed about the night life and don’t have loud people next door then you will probably enjoy.

The hotel has 2 entrances:
1st) entrances Westgate leads to a lift and is step free entrance
2nd) St Marys Street has stairs whether you walk or get the lift.

Reception is on the second floor I was informed on check the hotel can only keep bags till 5pm and you have two pay after 2pm with money going to a local charity.

Due to having gold status I got breakfast for free but it was very poor and most of it was cold, bacon looked raw.

No VIP access for silver members

They don’t acknowledge the VIP access which is noted here on Hotels if you’re a silver member or above so we did not get the free breakfast stated in here despite being able to show silver status.

We had a room with double windows where you couldn’t open the second window so the room got very humid after showering. Otherwise very standard room - I wouldn’t choose it for more than one night.

This hotel is a bit of a faded beauty queen. It was probably once top notch and gorgeous but is now a bit faded but still a place I would recommend without hesitation. The staff were unfailingly polite and the food was great. The area around is a bit...colorful (think \"Rainbow.\") Cardiff seems a very open minded city and if this bothers you maybe avoid this place as it is located right in the midst of some businesses that cater to that crowd. However, they kept to themselves and I kept to mine and I enjoyed Wales as I always have.

Hotel is lovely, bed was comfy! Bathroom nice and clean, male reception staff were awkward and unhelpful, our air conditioning wasnt working, said he would swap rooms in half an hour but i explained that i had to leave in 15mins, said to wait 15mins then talk again about changing rooms. Ok... Asked if we could have ice sent up as well was roasting in there, no we had to get it ourselves. Got moved to new room, no help with bags to new room even though we had to rush around due to fault with the hotel room air con, rushed to take our bags, hit with a nice cool room straight away, thank goodness. Next day i knocked my foot on table corner in the room, wasn't too bad but later on while having coffee downstairs my sandal was rubbing the small wound, asked for a plaster as it was sore, youd swear i asked him to move a mountain, \"why? Are you cut? I dont think i have sorry\" didnt acknowledged me any further picked up phone.... i couldn't tell if he was just getting on with his job or actually calling to get some because of the bluntness, he ended up asked someone from kitchen to bring one. No communication though, was just odd, it was awkward, i had to promt him \"sorry, excuse me?\" helpfulness and actual hospitality was awful. I am management at a hotel myself and would never be so blunt as to say no to customer's when it comes to helping, especially when its the hotels fault that youre uncomfortable. Could be more friendly and communicative that would have improved the whole tone.

Nice room thanks to an upgrade. Curtains let a lot of light through and not very well sound proofed.

This location is the best place to stay if you’re looking to stay in the heart of historic Cardiff with close proximity to Cardiff Castle — you really can’t beat this location and it is a short walk from Cardiff Central that was manageable even with our two large suitcases. The room was super clean and the spacious considering typical hotel rooms are very compact. We had a king size bed with a room that faced St. Mary’s Street. Please be aware that if you enter from St Mary’s Street you’re actually entering on Floor 1 and reception is on Floor 2. You’ll need to take the stairs to the ground level to the lift that will then take you to the second floor. There is another lift from the second floor that takes you to the rooms. We didn’t try to English breakfast. There is a bar and lounge area on the second floor which were never busy. We would stay here again.

1 night stay in twin room

Booked a twin room at this hotel to stay overnight with a friend to go to a concert in Cardiff Castle. It's a fabulous location in the city centre. Discount on Parking at the NCP was a bonus. Check in was easy, the room was clean and the beds were comfy. Would stay again 😊

Only 5 mins walk to Cardiff Castle. Ideally situated for shopping. Four flights of stairs up to reception lobby though so you need to be fit.
