Room was ok, the overwhelming smell from the staff member smoking weed in the underground car park was not the best first impression. The smell lingered in the lift shaft for some time. Heating in room does not work so had some random heater splattered about the place. Room

Poor check-in experience. The person who checked me in barely said anything to me except to charge me for parking.

I must have stood there for nearly a minute while it was “click, click, click” on the computer, with no indication whether he had found my booking or anything. I was very unimpressed by it all.

This created a negative impression of the entire hotel from the outset. Very poor, and not what I would have expected from an establishment of your alleged calibre.

The room was very cold and there was no central heating, only two plug-in radiators that did not seem to do very much.

One of the bedside lights was simply not there (quite annoying when you want to read and you are on that side of the bed).

The parking was another annoyance. The fact that it costs £24 per day is not made overly prominent on Hotels.com, and I felt a bit misled about it.

This is a decent hotel, a short walk from the city centre.
I had a premium room which was reasonably priced. What isn’t reasonable in any way, shape or form is £24 for overnight parking. If this was more obviously marked on Hotels.com, I would have booked somewhere else - instead I have to explain to my work why I paid such an extortionate amount to park my car.
I would not use this hotel again while this is the cost of parking, as there is no valid reason I can give to my employer

Staff were very efficient and friendly. Room was very clean but a little dated with cracks on the bathroom floor tiles. We were 3 adults and had a very spacious room on the 8th floor.
We parked at the hotel and it is worth mentioning that the fee is £24 and not £21 as advertised. The public areas are lovely and modern. Breakfast was plentiful.

Big spacious room and nice bathroom. However, rooms could do with a freshen up. Carpet was horrible and stained. And there was a horrible smell in room.
Heating didn’t work but there was a small electric heater.
Could not park in the car park as no spaces left.

Lovely hotel and nice spacious rooms. It was an inconvenience that are room wasn't ready at 4:20pm when check-in is from 3pm and I was asked to confirm time of arrival in advance, which I did. I followed up to question it after my wife was informed there'd be a 20 minute or so wait as we had a table booked with friends. We were given a room then but it was decided for guests need special adaptations and not really ideal

The room was a great size very clean, great amenities. However the soap/shampoo bottles were empty and there as no heating on any of the bedrooms. We were given heaters however in January winter weather this didn't feel good enough for a hotel like this.

Overall the hotel was fine for what we needed. Sadly on our check out morning, our bathroom smelt of weed (presumably from adjacent rooms). Reported this to the reception for information and told we should have reported sooner so they could move us rooms. We were checking out so didn't need another room. To then be charged for storing our bags for a few hours when we saw people do so for free on arrival felt unfair.

Room was clean and comfortable, staff very unpleasant and unfriendly. Disappointed with the level of customer service at the hotel, staff were very unhelpful. Very disappointed that the spa facilities were out of order as that was the only reason we picked the hotel. We were not advised this by email or any other communication. We rang the hotel to book the spa and told they were out of order but should be ok by our stay. If they had told us they would not have been we would have changed hotels. We booked for the relaxation before Christmas. When asked to leave our luggage we were told we have to pay which is disgusting if you have a room booked. Very disappointed with this hotel and service, regular visitor to Cardiff we probably won’t return to this hotel.

Large panoramic room on the 12th floor with great views of Cardiff in 2 directions. Our friends booked a suite for only £30 more and it was about double the size, on the 15th floor, that’s what we’re booking next time! Clean room and complementary water and chocolate on arrival, plus a useful fridge, without all the unnecessary mini-bar contents. Disappointed that the swimming pool and hot tub was closed for maintenance.

Fire alarm was set off during the night causing us to be evacuated ending up being a false alarm, plus we was kept awake by very loud guests from a party held in the hotel, with no staff to take action.
Plus staff wasn’t very helpfull when complaints was made. Won’t be staying again

I was given an upgraded room as the spa facilities were out of order. The room was very clean and bed very comfy. There was a coffee maker in the room and a free mini bar. Lovely views overlooking the city. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. It was my birthday there was a card brought to my room with a special biscuit saying happy birthday. I was given a drinks voucher to celebrate in the bar. Very nice

The main reason we booked Holland house was because we planned to use the pool, but we arrived and the pool was closed. Unexpected problems can happen but we booked the day before when the pool was already closed and it was not advised! When we left it was still closed though advertised online.
There was no resolution to it and the complains were never answered.
The central heating doesn’t seem work cos all the rooms have many electric heaters that take a while to heat up the room.

Breakfast was great, room a good size. The hotel including restaurant and bar area is very pleasant and comfortable. Excellent value for money and very convenient location. I didn't appreciate having to pay £5 to leave my luggage for a few hours though after checking out. I would definitely stay there again.

Room was tired, also having been to the rugby where we got soaked would have been nice to come back to a warm room, but no only two portable oil heaters were the only heating in there, so was quite cold . Bed was large and comfy and the shower was nice and hot . Tea , coffee provided.We have stayed for the last two years but this will probably be the last , paid £209 for a night , worth it ? Not really tbh

The receptionist did not set our keys properly and had a poor attitude. A party was occupying the restaurant, but we were still charged a tray charge for room service.

One grievance and one observation. My biggest issue was the fact, having stayed here with my daughter before while visiting to watch the rugby, we chose this for the swimming pool. There currently isn’t one for the foreseeable future but this isn’t mentioned anywhere. Their own website states it as an amenity, Expedia does also and it appears in searches ‘with a pool’. What I paid, and what people I heard on the day paying was much more and I didn’t get the primary amenity I wanted and had a disappointed daughter. A simple communication that it’s not currently open would have greatly helped change plans. At the hotel my discussions were literally ignored and I had merely a ‘sorry’ with no empathy as to why I was aggrieved. The observation was just that in our room 407, the sink taps are labelled wrong (hot is cold an vice versa), that’s madness from a premium hotel and also dangerous when what you think will be a cold glass of water is very hot. Will never visit again.

Coffee wasn’t very nice , it was a lot of money for the hotel so expected more , overpriced for what it was , but it was a nice experience. Loved the underground parking as felt it was safe .

I know the area so I know what a dump it is but booked the hotel based on the spa facilities and price. The hotel is old, I mean its so old that the carpet is the same as when I stayed here (When it was Mercure) about 14 years ago!! The rooms, although large, are tired and worn, the bed is about as comfortable as a concrete block, the pillows have the same comfort levels as folded paper and the bathroom looks like its seen things I wouldnt want to describe!

The spa facilities were closed when I arrived, which is annoying and a major reason why I selected the hotel, the response was \"sorry\" but yeah, still expect full price. I wouldnt stay there again, I wouldnt recommend either.

The room was spotless and very comfortable.
The hotel itself was well looked after and gave really good vibes. My only negative feedback is the condition of the pool area. When your at the pool looking to relax and you're looking around at damaged or rusted walls and features, it really puts you off. I'd recommens a fresh lick of paint and some tropical plants that thrive on humid, damp environment. < This would make a big difference.
