We were pleasantly surprised at what a wonderful stay we had at Tanes Hotel this weekend!
Considering the competitive price, the room was large and spacious. It was kitted out with everything you could need for a short stay, towels, extra blankets, toiletries, tea and coffee facilities, etc. The bedroom and bathroom were also pristinely cleaned.
We were kindly greeted upon arrival, despite the late time and shown to our room. The check in and out process were also very simple.
There were convenient shops nearby too.
We would definitely recommend Tanes Hotel and would absolutely book again the next time we visit Cardiff!

My initial review provided four stars. This was based on the cost, the minor issues I experienced and the reassurances of the manager when I emailed him.
This, my second review, has resulted in me downgrading the hotel from four stars to three as a result of those same factors. My hotel room was slightly more expensive on this occasion, a minor issue from my previous visit was not rectified despite the manager's reassurance and a significant new issue arose.
The new issue was that the hotel window was not secured. I dropped my bags off in my room and left as usual. I did not check the security of the room as I assumed that there was no need. I expect my door to be lockable and window already locked. Unfortunately, after a long day in Cardiff, I returned to my room to discover a cold draught. I located the source. It was a bedroom window which could not be locked. It led onto a fire escape. Therefore, my room could have been accessed by a stranger when I left my property there in the afternoon or when I slept at night.
As a result of this issue, which prompted safety concerns as well as issues with cold and noise, I sent an email to the owner. His reply \"Unfortunately, I have lost my regular handyman and have just now recruited a part-time replacement. We will do our very best to get to it.\" did not placate me.
In my opinion, a room which is not secure, should not be let out. I expected more.

Room was clean and tidy, but there was a smell in the room. Smelt like a farm! Window was open to disguise the smell, as the weather was awful and there wasn't any other reason why it should be open.

This is a hostel and not a hotel. There are no breakfast facilities, no lounges, etc as shown in the photos. The building is very tired and smells of damp.
Our room had a threadbare carpet, the radiator didn’t work so the room was ridiculously hot, the mattress was old and lumpy, water stains on the ceiling, no plug in the sink, toilet stained brown……need I continue! The paving outside was very slippery and a death trap.
To polish off a terrible stay, another guest blocked the car park and we were stuck in the car park for 40 mins with the manager refusing to find out who owned the car to move it. The manager seemed far more concerned about the other guest and couldn’t care less if we were stuck in the car park all morning.
We paid a lot of money to stay here for an event at the Utilita Arena (they had obviously elevated the price) and it is not what it says it is at all. I’m afraid I cannot understand the highly rated reviews at all.

Only real drawback is the quite narrow parking spaces, and we also thought it was quite difficult to find the entrance to the car park at the back of the property. Bathroom is also a little bit narrow.

We only needed a bed for the night for a party near Cardiff. To that end it was adequate, just. We had a tiny room which even for our short stay was a squeeze. The place was clean enough although the interior is rather dated. The car park only houses about 5 cars, is accessed by an unnamed alley to the rear of the hotel and is not recommended unless you have a pretty small car. Our welcome was a little jaded. All in all just about adequate for small stay but can't really understand the reviews that are higher than this.

Comfortable Hotel Close to Cardiff Central
The hotel was absolutely lovely, and the staff were wonderful. Tony, in particular, was incredibly kind and very helpful. Check-in was quick and straightforward. We were handed our keys and left to settle in, which my husband and I really appreciated.
Our room was great overall. There were a few marks on the wall and ceiling, likely from a previous water leak, but otherwise it was comfortable and well-equipped, with tea and coffee facilities provided which was a nice touch. The only downside was that our toilet stopped flushing after the first use, so we had to use the shared bathroom down the hall. Thankfully, it started working again the following morning.
All in all, it’s a lovely hotel in a very convenient location near Cardiff Central. The free, secure parking was another big plus.

Issue with another guest parking, blocking all other guests in, asked manager to sort, and all he did was stick a polite note on the car window. I couldn’t get out of the hotel to visit Cardiff and Barry. I had to go to the end of the hall and loudly ask if anyone owned the car. Owner did move it, although they were offensive towards me and my daughter, manager did nothing to intervene. The room we had (Twin, no ensuite) was small, and the room had signs of mould on the wall above the wardrobe/door, and the tops of the surfaces were disgusting (dust/dirt). Only 1 x double socket on the floor, so kettle had to be placed on the carpet to boil. Would not recommend.

We were visiting Cardiff and staying at the hotel for 2 nights. We were put in the annex where the internet did not work at all and the room had a persistent unpleasant odor. We didn't even have access to the main building and had to ring the bell and wait for someone to let us in if we needed to talk to the management. The shower in the bathroom didn't drain and when we informed the management, while they were apologetic and said they would get it fixed that day, the issue was not resolved. Instead they recommended we use the common bathroom on our floor which was not the cleanest and we had paid for a room with a functional private bathroom. Overall this was not a pleasant stay and I would not recommend this place.

Il start with the bad bit.i waz travelling on my own & was very tired & hot i had booked this hotel because it said it had free parking. After driving around in circles for 20/30 mins i tried to ring hotel no answer i tried about 20 times by now i was so upset and wanted to go home.i found a place to park & walked to the hotel. The lady/owner was lovely explained how to get to carpark. SO my suggestion is for that to be on the booking forms.my room was amazing it was spotless bed so comfortable. There was one problem that the people useing the shared shower room was righf next yo my room the banging was so annoying & i have ptsd so not great also people dont seam to be able to shut a door without banging it.if maybe the wall next to the shower room was soundproofed it would realy help.

Great location with a handy bus stop right outside. Paid over the top for a comfortable single room with shared bathroom ….yes oasis was in town. A box of Lindt chocolates but couldn’t tell if I would be charged or not. Parking was easy for me but not many spaces. The only thing was leaving at 6:30am. I left my keys on the desk as asked and went to my car. I was locked in the parking area. I couldn’t raise anyone by phone or email until 7:08 and then they took another 20mins to open the shutter of the car park. There should be a clear sign or some communication of this for future guests.

The property is well kept and clean. The room was modern and good albeit quite small en-suite - but it was clean and everything worked as it should. The hotel itself is a 20 mins walk into the centre or their is a bus stop right outside with buses every 10 mins.

The room looked clean, but the shower was blocked and unpleasant things floated out of the plug hole as I showered! I don't think I've ever slept so badly in a hotel unfortunately. There were people wandering about locking and unlocking doors, using the shared toilets and creaking floorboards all night. Someone got up at 5.30 and made huge amounts of noise. This was a mid-week stay, and we chose this hotel for the free parking. I'd caution against banking on this carpark in anything larger than our Rav4, as it was quite tight even for my car. So really the only thing we liked was the decor of the room and the free parking. I would not stay again (sorry). We used the Costa Coffee just along the road for breakfast.

The only good thing was the reasonable decor in the room. The tv kept randomly going on to screen saver depending on channel. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and could feel the bed springs. The knob for the radiator was broken off. The shower stopped running water whilst mid shower.
