When I got to the hotel they said it was under new ownership. The name is the same.They refused to honor the reservation. They sent me to another hotel. It was a substandard hotel. It is Hotels.com’s responsibility to confirm the availability of the room. This is not acceptable. Hotels.com’s service stinks. Do your job.

This was a lovely stay at the Gate Boutique hotel. The room was very quiet with a comfortable bed, fresh clean bedding and impeccably clean bathroom. The property is in new condition. The property has a small kitchen with cook top and refrigerator and would be an ideal place to stay more than over night. The staff was so friendly and insisted that we take freshly made croissants and cappuccino with us since we had a long day of driving ahead. I would highly recommend this place to others!

Although this was our first visit…we felt like we were long time guests of The Gate Hotel. A day prior to our arrival, we received an email from the hotel welcoming us and asking if we had any special requests. When we arrived at the hotel… Luigi greeted us as if we were long time friends. He made sure that our rooms were ready quickly, so that we could get some sleep after our overnight flight. The next morning Luigi greeted us as soon as we stepped off the stairs, made us all delicious cappuccino then treated us to an amazing breakfast (that was included with our room). This was our first day and first visit to Switzerland…and we felt most welcome…thanks to Luigi and his staff. I highly recommend staying at The Gate.

When we arrived at the property we were told they had no reservation for us (though we had printed documents with a reservation number and an email from the prior day from Expedia telling us about checking in). They told us that the room I had booked was not available for the price I had reserved it at. But because it was late in the evening they told us we could have two available rooms for free. But the next morning they told us we had to pay for the rooms, which I did. They then showed us what I think was a false document with the Expedia name on it, dated a few days prior to arrival, saying our reservation was canceled. We never received such a notice from Expedia, and in fact the day before Expedia had sent us the check-in hours, etc. Totally dishonest people. Plus the place was not all that nice anyhow. We then had to make another reservation at another hotel for our remaining two days in Zurich.

Although it was a little way out of Zürich it was easily reachable by bus train and airport. Really nice inside room lovely and had a balcony which helped. Breakfast was taken and was really nice. However we had an evening meal whilst there which had a very limited menu and our selection was only ok. Would certainly go back

Overall okay

The hotel is within walking distance to airport, literally less than 30 minutes and you are there. If you travel light then that’s doable.
There’s a tram stop nearby, you can get to Zurich centre in 30 minutes or go to airport, just 2 stops.
There’s also a nice discount shop nearby where you can buy any food, snacks etc
The room was clean and comfortable, it also looked new, like e.g. fluffy carpet, don’t know when the hotel was built but my room looked clean, new and not worn out.
They have weird power sockets, I struggled to charge my phone, one of the adapters didn’t fit at all, the other only worked with my clever solution.
Didn’t hear any plane noise in the early morning or in the night.
The breakfast was rather basic standard, nothing exceptional. Only scrambled eggs and bacon for cooked options. Also they didn’t have a green tea.
I picked this hotel because the hotels in the center were sold out or very expensive. You can get to the city center easily with the tram no.10 or combine it with a train which will be even quicker. However the tickets are quite expensive so take this into account.

We were only given one pillow each, asked for an additional pillow and were told they could not. Also when booked, we were under the impression there would be an airport shuttle. Once arrived, we were told that due to new management they are not running the shuttle anymore. Also the breakfast options are very limited. Rooms were spacious but walls are very thin and it’s pretty noisy. All in all it is fine for a layover spot.

This little spot is a gem. Perfect for easy access to or from the airport, the Gate Boutique is high end without the price located in a quaint residential neighborhood. We were impressed with the quality of amenities in the room and the breakfast was perfect before heading to the airport. Our room had TWO balconies, one covered one uncovered. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Look no further for a Zurich airport hotel. We can’t wait to come back!

I tried to coordinate a late arrival, but no one was in attendance. Check-in instructions were not given and if they were, THEY WERE NOT IN ENGLISH (the occupant’s language of choice).

I had asked that your staff communicate to me in English.

Incidentally, when my son arrived at your facility, no one was there, and he had to figure out what to do next. Your staff had provided a phone number for late check-in, but when my son called the number, the instructions given were not very clear. Your staff indicated that my son’s name had been left on a “phone box or post box,” but THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Neither I nor my son received any correspondence from your staff clarifying the check-in process.

I do not speak German or Swiss and I had made it clear that I preferred to receive instructions in English.

Your facility is not “User Friendly.”

Once checked in, the window in the room would not close. The operating device for the window was “broken” in the OPEN position.

Incidentally, the room was cold.

My son (the occupant) had a restless night, because of the inability to close the window and every time an airplane departed or landed, my son was startled awake from a fitful slumber.

Would not stay at your hotel in the future.

Luxury feeling all the way and free breakfast

This was an amazing huge 3 BR and 3 bath penthouse that is as wonderful as it looks online and even better in person except warning much of Europe has no air conditioning but they had air conditioners and fans in the unit to use which was much appreciated. Really enjoyed sitting outside on the patio furniture as well. There is a very modern kitchen but no dishes only cups and glasses and a fully stocked minibar. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms are even nicer than they look in the pictures. Really enjoyed our stay and the free included breakfast. The elevator opens up right at the door of your room. Felt very luxurious.

It was a great room, very large with multiple bedrooms. Fantastic kitchen area, modern and spacious. There was a very nice complimentary breakfast. The only issue was no AC and it it was in the high 20's while we were there. There was as small portable AC unit but there was no way to properly vent it so hot air was being pushed out to the hallway. We did have the windows open but there are no screens so a few bugs got in. Overall it was a beautiful place and would recommend it.

Good value for the money in a mostly residential neighborhood. Easy walk to tram stop and service to airport (5 minutes) and downtown (20 minutes). Be aware that the hotel is under a flight pattern and jets are quite loud during daylight hours. But first rate lodging overall.

2-hour flight delay: hotel doors closed

The fact I we prevented from staying. We arrived at 00.30h. Doors were locked with no clear instructions and out of hours contact phone not answered. Our late arrival was due to 2hr flight delay due to adverse weather at Zurich airport affecting all inbound and outgoing flights. Fortunately we found a nearby hotel but at a higher cost. The following morning we received a video message sent at 22.45 with instructions on how to access room key in secure box. A 2nd text message sent at 23.48 said “Hello, unfortunately there was an overbooking and for this reason you cannot stay with us today. The money that was debited from you has already been returned. Best regards. The Gate Team”. Earlier in the day I phoned 5 times using the contact number on the Hotel.com App. Every time, it went to voicemail with a German-only message.

I am not happy with this experience: I pre-booked several weeks earlier, I used the contact number provided in confirmation email, and had no reply from the hotel until 22.45 (when I was airborne) which was followed by a contradictory text close to midnight announcing an overbooking.

Whilst the money has been refunded, I had to pay an extra £30 excluding breakfast. I am also seeking compensation for unwanted disruption and stress.

Excellent Value in the Shadow of ZRH

The Gate is a wonderful gem. We booked in here for the last night of our trip so as to have an easy trip to the airport. The hotel is situated in a nice quiet residential area but various restaurants are an easy walk away. The entire staff was most friendly and helpful, the hotel’s condition and cleanliness are superb, and the entire stay was super comfortable. All that and the price was very reasonable. The Gate is most highly recommended.

Very clean room, decent size, comfortable bed. Good water pressure in the shower. Only complaint: no air conditioner, but they provide a fan. Good value.

The service was excellent, and the breakfast was full and good. The room was clean, and everything needed was available, although very small and single bed was very small. There was only one pillow, and it was hard and gave me a headache and hard to sleep with. I asked for another one but was told that the hotel was full and no extra pillows! Was given a second pillow for my last of 4 nights and it was good. The area was easy to access the bus and is close/ convenient to the airport. However, it is not close to downtown Zurich and doesn't have much to offer close by. I only found one dining option and it was not very good and was overpriced. Only one grocery store close by and it closed very early. Overall, I did think the hotel was good and reasonably priced and I would consider staying there again if I was in Zurich again. I felt safe walking around the area, but it was very residential not touristy and not much to offer.

We asked for a room with solid bathroom walls and door. We got one with glass enclosure and a frosted stripe. NO privacy of any type. The room has no floor space, so we had to walk single file anywhere we might try to go in the room. There was no room to lay out a suitcase, except on the bed, There was no top sheet and we could not find temperature controls—so we alternated between sweating and being cold. We were told breakfast was served 7-9. At 7 a.m., there was no one down at the desk or in the breakfast room. Another guest called someone and eventually the people showed up about 7:45 a.m. It, of course, took some time to get breakfast up and running. The check-in clerk was the best part of the hotel; he was friendly, helpful with restaurant recommendation and directions. After that, our experience went downhill steadily.

The “penthouse” smells like cigarettes. Our key worked after four attempts by the manager. There were cigarette butts in an ash tray. One our beds didn’t have any sheets. They charged an extra 100 francs for having 5 people in a penthouse!? Do not stay at this hotel.

Our plane was delayed and our baggage did not arrive with the flight so we had to spend additional time to put a claim in for our luggage. This process delayed our arrival to midnight that evening. We could not send a notice to The Gate Boutique as we were not aware of the baggage and plane delays until it was too late. The Gate Boutique closes and locks the door at 11:00. We arrived at midnight due to our plane delays and the number listed on the door came back as non registered so we could not reach anyone at the hotel. We ended up walking to another hotel about a half mile away and luckily for us they were open and we could spend the night. However, The Gate Boutique Hotel charged our credit card for that night so we have paid double for that night's stay.

The sole redeeming factor is the proximity to the airport -but this is also the biggest drawback - road noise and airplanes overhead are quite loud.

Other options are far better and not that much farther to get closer to the city center. Would not stay here again unless it was just an overnight between flights - and maybe not even then.

Penthouse Palaver!

Hotel is in residential area with easy public transport access. We had booked the penthouse suite which was really well equipped for cooking facilities but had absolutely no pots or pans or even a kettle. Given the cost it would have been nice to have a cup of tea, as the coffee provided was the worst on our 3 week trip! The toilet seats were also lose and dangerous.

The receptionist was doing breakfasts so checkout was slow. Maybe try staying in the penthouse yourselves and see how it actually works! It was not quite the 5 star experience we expected.

hotel is quite cute, reasonably priced, couple of minutes bus drive to the airport BUT, as i also in retrospect read in other reviews, found a way to scam. Left the plastic key card in the bin in the room , after no keycard box was in the reception and nowhere in the instructions was any mention of it - so without any further communication inquiring about where i left it, they hit me with a charge to my card for half of the accommodation price ! and thats for a 30ct plastic card they presumebaly didnt find. I really recommend not doing bussiness with them.

So grateful to all the staff at this beautiful hotel for treating my mom and her friend like Gold during their stay. Do NOT book! There are disgusting carpets in the hallway and in the room that smell terrible. There was a dehumidifier or machine in the hallway on all day and night to pull the humidity out of the rug. When you open the room a horrible smell is emanating from the rug and they even had a fan on because they must be aware of it. Very cheap and thin towels. The photos are misleading and make it seem as if it’s a nice place however it was gross and I would not return.

Nice place to stay near airport. We were very happy and pleasantly surprised how nice it was. We would stay again next time we are in Zurich.
