The Green Marmot Hotel in Zurich has a lot of potential; it’s in a central location and offers a budget-friendly capsule experience that sounds appealing on paper. But in reality, the hotel suffers from poor organization and design choices that make the stay more frustrating than enjoyable.

First off, the layout is inconvenient. The luggage lockers are in a completely different area from the sleeping capsules. This forces guests to go back and forth unnecessarily,pick your clothes from one space, go shower somewhere else, then get dressed and finally walk again to where you sleep. It’s disjointed and inefficient. Why not have the lockers near the sleeping pods, or at least in the same area?

The sleeping capsules themselves are another issue. Instead of having doors or solid shutters, they only come with a thin, see-through curtain. This means there’s little to no real privacy, especially with hallway lighting and other guests walking past. A proper capsule should allow you to feel enclosed and secure,not exposed.
Then the walls are thin so can easily hear from your neighbors!

The showers were especially annoying. They’re tiny,barely enough space to turn around or bend—and they use fixed, overhead rain-style heads. This forces you to wash your hair whether you want to or not. A simple hand shower would give guests more control and comfort, especially when you just want a quick wash.

There is no parking in downtown Zurich. This caused a major problem. There's also nowhere to pull in, so you can't drop off bags. I feel like people should be given a warning beforehand so they can start looking for garage parking lots nearby. Also no ac, so place was very hard to sleep in.

the Capsule is great design. A nice quiet place to rest in such expensive city like Zurich. The washroom and shower facilities is sufficient to clean up. The locker is nice and spacious for backpackers. I would come to the place again if I ever visit Zurich.

The capsules are private so i liked that - showers were very good and plenty of toilets. There are really no common spaces to hang out. A few chairs on patio and few throughout hostel. Was very quiet and mixed aged guests. Zurich itself is amazing and the location of this hostel is superb

The only good thing about this place is the location - 7 minute walk away from a main train station and in a very walkable and central area. The facilities are very basic and a bit inconvenient. There is no receptionist before 2pm and the front door is locked so there’s no way to get in if you arrive before the check-in time - unless another guest is kind enough to open the door for you. The lobby area is almost non-existent and there are no common areas to hang out. No option for luggage storage before or after checkout. The staff are only there until 10pm so after that the washrooms get very dirty until someone comes in for the 2pm shift next day. There is no security or locks other than the main entrance - I booked a women only room and the only thing separating us from the men/unisex dorms is a curtain. There’s no storage space by your bed and the lockers are only in the lobby area which can be pretty far just to go get a change of clothes. Some of the top bunks don’t have handles to hold on to so it makes climbing the ladder and getting up there very difficult. Overall it wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t want to stay there again. I know it’s a hostel so it’s not supposed to be fancy or anything but I’ve definitely stayed in dorms with cleaner facilities and nicer spaces.

It is a capsule hotel and as such, I was not looking for the last word in luxury but Green Marmot still managed to excel with wonderful staff who were friendly and accomodating. I was there for just one night. Everything was clean. The shower cubicles are small but sufficient and towels are supplied. The cubicles are plywood which is nicer than the plastic ones I have seen in the past. Aside from a light, there was also a power point to charge my phone. The mattress was adequate and linen clean. The foyer had a coffee machine that accepted cards or cash and the coffee was quite passable.

Cozy hole in the wall

Was a good little hole in the wall (quite literally) lights out was at 10 and it did get a bit noisy until around 11 when everyone started coming in. The cubbies are built from wood so it’s almost impossible to move around in them or get out without making noises. You only get a curtain for a door and it doesn’t cover the whole opening. Cubbies on the bottom have a gap at the bottom of the curtain, the ones on top have the gap at the top. Each has a light, hangars, a box to put stuff (not lockable you can get an optional locker), a fold out table, and a euro and Italian type plug outlet. There is also a little nook under the shelf that had cold air coming out which the only way to control was shoving part of the comforter in. Stayed in April and was 47f outside, air inside felt like 70s but was very dry, multiple guests including myself had the sniffles and were constantly blowing nose or coughing through the night. Stayed in the mixed gender room, bathroom are split, men’s room had two toilets, three showers, and two urinals. Towels pillow and comforter were provided. There is a vending machine with snacks and drinks in the lobby as well. After 10 you have to use a provided code to open the door, WiFi was great until about 10 when everyone came in then it was spotty and kept buffering. Apple Maps drops you at the building at the foot of the street found the entrance in side street on the left up some stairs. Signage or a note would be nice. A fan in the cubbie would be too

I stayed in the Women's only section which I thought would be behind a locked door, but rather was a curtained off section of the main room.
I wish the lockers had been in the room rather than having to go out to the lobby area to grab my stuff each time, but it felt safe. I do wish there was someone at reception at all times, to give suggestions or help when needed.

If you are one your own and spending a few hours in Zurich, this is a very cost-effective option! It is in the heart of old town, and they offer a free locker to keep your stuff. If you do not mind the common bathrooms this would be a good choice.

It was ok. The beds are comfortable but it’s a hostel and the only separation is a curtain. No security between the men’s /women’s area. You store your bags in a locker in the lobby so it feels like you’re doing the walk of shame just to brush your teeth.

The room area smells pungent and like dirty socks. The bathroom is rough and not in the best of conditions. No soap and mold in the showers. Very tiny dressing area. Not my favorite hostel for $60/night but it is what it is for 12 hours between trains.

Really unsure how I feel over this property. It is in a fantastic central location, couldn't have been better placed. Staff were lovely, other guests were also all lovely and so quiet and respectful. Lockers were great, safe, secure and spacious. The bed? comfortable but I did feel very confined. only a curtain at the end that is open, the showers were ok, but as you have to get change in the cubicle they could do with being wider. This place does offer reasonably inexpensive place to sleep in central Zurich, great for a night or 2 but probably no longer.

Cheap basic capsule hotel to stay in. Great central location. Stay is fine as long as you understand that a capsule hotel means you have basically a covered bunk with a curtain for privacy from the dozen or so other people. Would not be fine if you were expecting your own room or any amount of personal space. Served my purpose of having somewhere to sleep for a night at the cheapest rate possible in Zurich.

It did the job, given the fairly low price for Zurich. Bed capsule area is quite small but separate locker was big enough. Very warm at night (outside temperature had been about 30 degrees C in the day though) and this meant windows were open at night, which in turn meant noise early in the morning. Showers were fine, but small.

Living at the DT of Zurich, the price of this Capsule Hotel is much lower than other hotel. Great location, walkable to everywhere. The shower is great, but no shampoo or shower gel. For sure, you couldn't sleep very well in this mixed capsule hotel because so many people are in one room. Must keep quiet all the time. Anyway, because of the low price and the great location, I was very happy for the two nights i stayed.

Not worth the price and you may not get a locker

Booked 1 pod for 3 nights. When I arrived I was informed my booking didn’t include a locker, evening though that was not stated in the listing. After staff looked into it, I was told that while the booking SHOULD have said that there was no locker (and didn’t) that it also didn’t say a locker was included (just implied from pictures in the listing and other travelers’ reviews) so I would be without one. They offered to give me an open locker the first night but said I wouldn’t have one in the second night and would have to pay 10CHF the third night for an available locker (after just telling me that the cost for a room with a locker is the same as a room without). After some back and forth with the employee who then talked to the manager they agreed to let me use the locker on the third night without charge. Even better though the charge was waived, the way the situation was handled by staff, including trying to tell me that even though it wasn’t my fault that I didn’t have a locker they would get away with a technicality on it, seemed unprofessional and frustrating. The stay after was subpar. While the privacy of the pods is nice, the blackout curtain does not cover the whole door and the beds are super creaky and loud whenever you move. Bathrooms and showers were dirty. Overall definitely not worth it for the price.

If you’re looking for a place to party and hang out, this probably isn’t it, but I was exhausted from travel and found it perfect to unwind and get a good sleep. This hostel is no frills. No bar or common area to mingle with others. It’s perfect for a place to sleep without friends.

The provided towels are small. There is a towel drying rack available to use.

While there is nothing outright dishonest in the description or photos, they really don't do a very good job explaining what it's actually like to stay here. The experience is a lot closer to a hostel than a hotel, and even judged as a hostel, this place is severely lacking in amenities.

The "capsules" are really nothing more than claustrophobic bunks. There are over 50 bunks in a single room. This means that your chances of not having a sorer in your room are basically zero.

The only common space in the entire place is the lobby, which is very sparsely furnished. If all the lobby chairs are taken, you have nowhere to sit down but your capsule, where you have to be extremely quite because again, 50 bunks in one room so odds are no matter the time somebody's sleeping. There are no tables or desks available for guests to use.

The bathrooms were very hot and humid, and a single pair of male and female bathrooms serves all 50 bunks. The showers don't have any dressing area, so you're expected to get dressed in the shower stall's vestibule, which doesn't even have enough room to turn around without stepping into the shower itself.

The lockers are all in the lobby, which makes them annoyingly far from the bunks.

Compare this to a hostel, where you'll often find a common room, and bunks separated into smaller dorms, each with their own bank of lockers and bathroom. Not only that, but a typical hostel will be much cheaper than this capsule "hotel".

Also, I booked what was referred to as a 'capsule room', but actually it's a bed in a hostel.

The receptionist was reluctant to help and abrasive, when I pointed this out and asked for a refund.

Disappointing.

The dorm room did not smell good either, not a good experience.

This is a hostel and not a hotel. Having said that the location is perfect and this is probably one of the cheaper options in this area. When I checked in the bed was not ready and it was one hour past check-in time, had to wait for about 30 mins to check in. All in all I would stay here if you don't care about spending time at the hotel and just need a space to sleep.

This place in a nice location with easy access to the tram and not too far from the main station. The lake of Zurich is within walking distance and there are a lot of restaurants within a few blocks away.
The rooms, however stank like dirty feet. They had a dirty smell. They do have plenty of bathroom stalls and showers, so you don’t have to wait on anyone.

It was wonderful. I just wish there was a microwave. Not even an entire kitchen, but just a microwave, so i wouldnt have to eat out so much, which is quite expensive in switzerland or eat sandwiches from the supermarket. The hotel itself is lovely and i would love to go back.

A great hotel - conveniant transport access

A great hotel and a minutes walk from Helmaus tram stop and about 5 minutes from Stadelhofen S-Bahn station which has direct services to the airport.

I used this hotel on an overnight stopover in Zurich and it was alot cheaper to stay here, plus train tickets than staying in the airport transfer hotel.

I was greeted by the lovely staff on arrival and the bed was really cozy and comfy.

Nice staff...Yes, it is cheaper than most of the hotels in nearby area. Yes, it is close to train station. Other than that I would not recommended this place.

I booked a female dorm, which was only separated by a curtain in a huge romm with about 40 beds. The curtains for each bed was not blocking the room light entirely and i could not do anything about it.

The shower/toilet was disgusting when I try to use it in the morning.

No common place, to sit and chat, so people talk in near the beds and it is very disturbing.

I'm not sure why this hostel advertises on a hotel site. The "capsule" is actually just a bed with a curtain that lets other people's light and noise in. The river view is only from the balcony. The hostel consists of 3 rooms: an unattractice, bare reception (sooo many people needed to speak to them but of course they only come in at 2pm), and two rooms divided up into sections separated by only a curtain. 8 beds to each section, 4 sections per room i think. So 8× 4 (or 5?) people in one medium sized room. Shocking that this is allowed during covid times. I think i was the only one wearing my mask. For all these beds (50 lockers so maybe same number of beds) there is ONE female bathroom anf ONE male. The 7 bathrooms they mention in their description, are acutally 7 stalls: 4 toilets and 3 showers. I didnt see anyone cleaning the bathroom at all in the morning when literally dozens of women used the bathroom, one after the other. This is definitely a one night only kinda place and only if you're really low on money. They should learn from the Hyve in Basel, which charges the same price or lower, but is like a 5 star hotel compared to this unattractive and unclean hostel. Never again.

The Green Marmot was an overall excellent stay. It is located in the heart of Zurich downtown. It was within walking distance from the SBB train station (10 minute walk), and very accessible by trams and buses. It was convenient to set down luggages after checking in at 3pm. The hotel was within walking distance (less than 15 minutes) from most major attractions. Would highly recommend for those who are flying in from Zurich.

The capsule was comfortable and clean. Each clausule has a curtain which provided some privacy and good ventilation. The sleeping area was quiet and private. I felt very safe even in the midst of Covid.

The bathroom was overall clean. Towels were provided. I wore shower shoes for personal preference.

Overall it was a comfortable and cost effective place to stay in Zurich. I would come back again before flying out of Zurich.

C'est la deuxième fois que je viens dans cet hôtel avec ma fille adolescente. j'avais peur d'avoir des problèmes a cause de mon heure d'arrivée tardive mais ils ce sont rendus disponible pour moi sur appel. ils sont présents pour leur clientèle (Mais de 14h00 a 22h) jeunes, sympas. la rue est super bien placée, mais pas trop bruyante car le couloir avec la capsule N° 23 donne sur une cour intérieure.j'aime. j'y retournerai.

Nice staff

Staff were very friendly. Good price for Zurich. Free coffee, tea, chocolates, ear plugs. Comfortable bed. They supply towels but didn't have any available for me. Also the curtain for the pod capsule has a 6 inch open space where people can look into your pod. So wasn't very private.

O local deveria ter um espaço para poder abrir as maletas. O pocket fica na recepção e tem que ficar abrindo e retirando coisas porque dentro do ambiente das camas necessita ser silencioso . O chuveiro desliga a cada 10segundos e fica uma ventilação fria em cima da cabeça o tempo todo.

La ville est très jolie mais trop de voitures (pollution) sauf sur les bords du lac qui sont très agréables et rafraîchissants si l'on se baignent.L'hôtel capsule très bruyant toute la nuit.

Kabine nicht wie beschrieben, eine Dusche, die auch noch defekt war. Der abschließbare Schrank war viel zu weit von der Kabine entfernt.
