We really enjoyed our 5 night stay in this beautiful hotel which aims to be, and certainly provides, a home from home. The staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. Breakfast was superb - we really enjoyed the special daily shot and hot choice - and afternoon tea delicious. Our room was beautifully styled, the bed was comfortable and the bath a bonus. Finally the location was great for exploring the city by foot or using the very efficient and affordable public transport system.
We would love to return to this hotel one day and look forward to discovering another of the very individual rooms.

The Altstadt is truly special and one of a kind. It’s like staying in your own private art museum. But it isn’t stuffy, not one bit. They serve a cake and candy tea each afternoon to their guests! There’s a secret roof terrace with snacks! The staff is absolutely top notch, the warmest and most helpful folks ever. They will give you fantastic recommendations for local restaurants and shops. And it’s remarkably quiet given that the hotel is less than a half mile west of the Museums Quartier and the Hofburg.

PS the beds are perfect. Not too firm and not too soft.
PPS Seriously the place is a treasure. The schatz kammer should be jealous.

Enjoyed the location close to the Museum Quarter. We parked our car in the MQ garage about a 15 minute walk from hotel. It was about a 10 minute walk to the Ringstrasse. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delightful. Room is small and sink was in the room instead of bathroom. Street noise is loud so had to keep windows closed at night.

Wonderful hotel filled with interesting art. Comfortable king-sized bed (which I didn’t expect) & nice-sized room. Delicious breakfast with extensive choices: combination of buffet and made-to-order options. Extremely friendly, helpful staff (desk and cleaning people). Our room, with windows facing inner courtyard, was very quiet. We were sorry to leave!

The staff at Alstadt is incredible. Service is friendly, prompt and anticipitory. They offer a complimentary breakfast and absoloutely lovely Afternoon Tea complete with pianist. There is wonderful art installed throughout the property and a rooftop terrace for relaxation outdoors. A nice amenity in a city hotel. The hotel is quiet and the housekeeping staff remembers what guests like (extra coffee for the in-room Nespresso) and provide same. Would stay again without hesitation.

Friendly staff and superb location

This was an amazing stay. My wife and I came for a short weekend vacation and loved every minute.

The hotel is perfectly located with good food options all around (check out the Momo pizza place). It is close to public transport options and when we stayed it had two Christmas markets near by.

The stuff is amazingly friendly, with contagious smiles and welcoming atmosphere.

Lastly, a great breakfast was included with a variety of breads, cheese, hams, eggs and fruits.

We will definitely come again

I loved this hotel and would return without hesitation. It’s nicely situated just outside the main tourist area but within an easy walk of major attractions. It’s also very close to a subway stop. The room was beautifully decorated, roomy, bright and airy. It had really high ceilings. And the shower was very good, though it did routinely leak onto the floor. That was the only problem and it was relatively minor. Breakfast was good though the service there was inconsistent. The first day a server told me the specials and took my order. The second day I had to chase someone down. I skipped breakfast the third day. Otherwise the service was excellent. The afternoon tea and cake in the salon was nice too.

Disappointing, surprised it’s a Small Luxury Hotel

We booked a Large Double Room. The first room we were allocated was awful. Tiny shower room and was not decorated at all. As we said at the time, it felt like a room in a mental asylum. We were then given Room 23 which was marginally better but looked nothing like any of the rooms on the website. I had a look in other rooms when housekeeping were in and I think we got one of the worst rooms in the hotel. The restaurant recommendation we were given was not great. Overall, fine if you need to be in that part of Vienna, but not a destination hotel by any means. Short on style and certainly not luxurious.

The bed in our room had a very firm mattress. We received some relief after bringing this up with hotel staff and they provided mattress toppers. Our initially assigned room (junior suite) faced a busy street. The noise level and poor insulation due to old windows kept us up into early morning hours.

Hotel staff was responsive to our complaints and assigned us a much more agreeable room (same category).

The water in the shower of the new room drained very slowly, effectively flooding the bathroom each time we used it.

The continental breakfast buffet was plentiful and provided lots of choice.

The hotel is in a great, very central location.

The entire hotel is full of art works and eclectic designs. If you’re an art lover, this place is made for you!

Generally speaking, hotel staff were very responsive to our wishes and needs. We would probably not stay at this property again as the individualistic design of the assigned room might not be to our liking. We also missed the presence of an in-house restaurant and/or bar. We obviously knew about the latter two points, but wanted to try it out anyway. The hotel does provide a printed map card with recommended restaurants.

Overall it was a good hotel, just not our taste.

Romantic weekend in Vienna

This was our first wedding anniversary and we celebrated with a weekend at the Christmas markets. The hotel was amazing from start to finish. Really friendly reception staff beautiful afternoon tea and breakfast included in your room rate. The decor is class lots of style and you can tell alot of thought and design has gone into its creation.
I could not rate this hotel high enough and we will definitely stay here on our next trip to Vienna ❤

Breakfast & afternoon tea was great, had difficulty adding an extra day. Added extra day but at a considerable price increase, which was reduced after a negotiation. Hotel had a power outage at 5:00 -10:00 AM on our first night, which made life difficult. The hotel gave us a complimentary bottle of Sparkling Rose & chocolates on our last night to make up for the power outage!

From the outside it is unassuming and the entryway is “rustic” but once you pass through the sensor operated doors to the reception the very knowledgeable and informative staff lead you to a lovely room that includes everything you need (plus a heated bathroom floor). Tea time comprises of a buffet of 20 different candies in jars plus cakes and a wonderful selection of tea. The bar is not monitored and is on an honor system which I found particularly welcoming because of the feeling of trust you get in a place where traveling is always accompanied with a weary eye looking for the next scam or cheat that is sadly everywhere in the world. Absolutely loved this place

We travel a lot and this is one of my favourite hotels in the world. I feel like writing a detail laden review might spoil some of the nice surprises that await a new visitor, but in short this hotel provides great service and gorgeous rooms in an excellent location. On this trip we were attending a concert at the Stadthalle, which was a 20 minute walk or 6 minute taxi journey. The centre is a short walk away and the surrounding area is full of bars, restaurants and quirky shops. Breakfast at the hotel is great. We stayed in the Felix suite which we loved, and our travelling companions were similarly enamoured with the Otto suite. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Vienna.

We were a little intimidated by the number of steps from the entrance to the upstairs reception area, but there was a very efficient elevator that helped us to move from floor to floor with our luggage. The staff service was excellent and any questions we had were addressed promptly. In addition, they assisted with making reservations one night. Breakfast was quite satisfying and we did not need to eat lunch because tea time was a perfect pick-me-up until we went to dinner. We also enjoyed the access to the Honesty Bar in the reception area. Hotel was well situated for our purposes and within reasonable walking distance to the sites we had time to visit.

We LOVE Hotel Altstadt! Set just outside of the Museums Quarter the location is perfect if you like to walk as we do. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff is courteous, friendly and helpful. As a Chef, I can't say enough about the bountiful Breakfast Buffet which is supplemented with a small egg dish or small sweet entree. In the late afternoon, coffee/tea with sweets are available in their lovely, peaceful Salon/Lounge which offers an \"Honesty Bar\" later in the evening. This place has it all! We will be back!

We came here for my mum's 84th birthday. This hotel is one of the nicest I have ever stayed in. The room was beautiful, the hotel itself stunning, the afternoon tea and breakfast were fabulous, I loved the mini bar, the salon with roaring fire. It is right near to the museum district, but also just around the corner is also one of the best coffee houses and vintage clothes shops! We ate at Ulrich's on the first night - v good food and ambience. It is not a tremendously touristy place - which we also loved too! It was all perfect. Thank-you.

The Altstadt was perfect.

Probably the friendliest and most helpful staff at a hotel we've ever stayed at! The location is perfect for sight-seeing Vienna on foot without being stuck in the busy/noisy middle of the city/tourist area, with loads of great local restaurants and bars. The local art used around the hotel is a lovely/lively touch without being too garish or weird like some of them. Really comfy & cosy hotel with delicious breakfasts & afternoon cake.

We arrived hot and tired after a long journey but the staff provided water and a thorough introduction to all the services that the hotel includes as its service offer to its customers. Every room has a different design and the building itself is interesting both historically and architecturally. The main benefit of the hotel is the staff - very helpful and knowledgeable.

It has been a very long time since I have had the personal touch provided by the hotel staff. For example, upon arrival one of the 3 people at reception showed us to our room and explained all of the room's amenities, and also toured us through the dining room and the room for leisure. There was a table with freshly baked cakes, snacks and candies available all day until 4:00

We Visited Vienna for the first time and I'm happy to say that the Hotel was amazing!
small hotel, nice location - not exactly in the center but 5 minute 10 minutes from city hall and from the museum quarter.
The room was perfect - new, clean. beautiful design. great bed, nice view to a quiet street, good air condition, excellent shower. All you can ask from a room in a boutique hotel.
Breakfast was wonderful - very rich and tasty and in a beautiful dining room.

The perfect place in the artsy part of Vienna. The staff was so friendly and the breakfast and lounge rooms were stunning. The lovely breakfast was a highlight for us. They hosted a young artists showcase while we were there and it was so entertaining! The only downside was the construction noise on the new rooms in the building. Or holiday sleep ins were cut short there.

Old apartment building concerted to a boutique hotel. It was done very well with stylish comfortable rooms and nice amenities. If you are looking for a conventional hotel this is not it. If you want a room that is comfortable and stylish with fine amenities coupled with great service, I would highly recommend the Altstadt.

Traveling to Austria and Vienna for the first time, you have no sense of areas, hotels, etc - so you take a shot in the dark, read online reviews and hope for the best. Hotel Alstadt did not disappoint! Just came from Amsterdam and a splurge at Hotel D L'Europe, we wanted something low key, affordable and cooler. This hotel is all that. Super warm and friendly, great rooms, ASTOUNDING breakfast, included, really nice area, walking distance to everything but not in the middle of everything, so you can come back to the hotel and really feel you're away from the hustle and bustle. The staff arranged 3 dinners for us, ALL THREE were splendid! Trust them, they know how to book a restaurant. They helped with directions, calling cabs, anything we wanted. Highly recommend! You know you had a good time when it's sad to leave.

I came from Canada to visit my cousin. Stayed 3 days and loved it. Great location, excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff . My departure was so early . When I got to lobby at 4 30 am my taxi was there and they even made my coffee. I will go back for sure

Maybe the BEST hotel we've stayed in!

Our stay was excellent from the moment we checked in. Great location! Worth staying for the breakfast alone! The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful (even with laundry needs). The room was quirky and fun, but functional and cozy as well. The bed was very comfortable which is very important since I have a bad back. Can't say enough great things about this hotel - we're likely to return to Vienna just to stay here!

Something out of the ordinary.

Great location. Turn left to get a bus running away from the city; turn right and get the same route running in, or just walk to metro stations. Also walking distance to major museums, the Hofburg, and St Stephens.

The hotel had a really ‘different’ feel. The rooms were only a few on each floor. Free coffee and cake was served every day at 4pm. Cleanliness excellent, also quietness, Everything we asked the staff for was done, including arranging a taxi to the airport for 6am (and including it on the bill so we didn’t have to keep cash back to pay the driver).

5 days in Vienna

This hotel is wonderful. Reception is upstairs just in case you miss the sign. All the staff were lovely. Very helpful and sorted out a wonderful room with a bath tub. Room #23. Continental breakfast was plentiful and a nice choice, the waitresses are great. Have fun finding the butter. Reception will happily recommend local restaurants, sort out taxi's and print out boarding passes. The hotel website is full of information. It is about a 10 minute walk to the museum quarter, 15 to the Hofburg palace. If you are good with public transport it is worth getting a weekly pass for about 16 euros. That gets you on the local buses, trams and trains. The closest station is the Volkstheatre about 8 minutes walk away. If you plan to go to alot of the museums and attactions, the Vienna pass is good but beware the hop on buses only have a few stops and some do a big loop around certain parts of the city, so if you are get on the blue line at Prater Park for example, it goes out of the city only to go past Prater park again about an hour later. We would happily stay again at the Hotel Altstadt Vienna.

Awesome Service

The Aldstadt has the best service ever! The people was always friendly and helpful with all requests. The breakfast was amazing with a large selection of breads, yogurt, fruit and muesli. Additionally they offered a different cooked option every morning. Our only complaints were noise from the room above ours because of a renovation project. Also there was a step up to enter the bathroom which was potentially a problem during nighttime visits to the bathroom.
