You get what you pay for

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in cologne . The best parts about the hotel was it was easy to get to from station . Despite our stay being ok there were a few niggling parts . Our room was at the top of the building (76 steps) and for a couple over 50 this was a bit of a hike . The room Itself was v basic. With no added amenities . We were on the road side so was noisy. The bathroom and shower was excellent.
Our host was friendly and helpful . Although i have added a few faultsthese were personal and the overall picture is iwould recommend this for a younger traveller on a budget

The best part about this place is that the beds were very comfortable, other than that, very old fashioned, more like a hostel , only stairs no lift, the stairs are a hazard and the host seems to want to save money on everything. Although it was a very clean place.

Good location and reasonable quality. The hotel is being refurbished so the stairs are covered to protect the carpet and there are a couple of decorators around which is a bit disconcerting.

We had two triple rooms which were right at the top of the building so several flights of stairs to climb. Our rooms had been refurbished to a good standard. However the bathroom had no hooks/rails for towels or clothes so you had to drape them on the sink/back of the toilet and there was no curtain/door in the shower so the bath mat got very wet.

Over all these issues did not detract from our stay, just things to be aware of.

The person who checked me in was a little uninterested, but otherwise the stay was fine. They seemed to be having work done on the place. The bathrooms could do with a refresh, but they were adequate. The room was good. Only stayed one night and it did the job.

Room was small but nice. We checked in very late at night and left early in the morning. Our room had a moon and star light on the ceiling which was the most memorable part of our stay. I would absolutely recommend this place if you’re travelling to Cologne

A night in cologne...

This place it's pretty good, we stayed in 15 which was a triple room. We checked in around midnight and encountered no problem. If you check in after hours it will all be done by phone which was no problem at all. We did not have breakfast so I don't know about the food. This place is basic, just come sleep and recharge. Our room was clean and had a table and chair. This place doesn't have a lift so walk your butts up work your luggage, after all you came here to walk. Also no air conditioner, but I don't see it as a negative but FYI. Park on the street, good luck. Overall, good place to crash.

Nice little hotel in excellent central location.

Nice clean hotel in a brilliant location short walk from nearest u bahn station and well connected. Also near one of the bus tour stops. I was given a choice of two rooms which I've never experienced before and was a nice little surprise. I chose the bigger room even though I had to use a private external bathroom which was fine. The shower was located in the corner of the room though only separated by tray and shower curtain which was a bit strange but got used to it. Overall a nice stay.

Igor was friendly and helpful, relatively cheap and with free WiFi.
But I must say that the room was small, not one that was advertised. Outdated, broken tiles, holes in the shower where an old one was before. Our ‘double room’ was 2 single beds put together with 2 single duvets, the light switch/plug socket was loose from the wall, making it dangerous when taking a plug out. The rooms were ‘cleaned’ daily but not once were our sheets changed, or floor swept.
Overall, it was okay on a budget but needs the maintenance

Main difference we found was the same price of rooms for different sizes.

My double bed room was spacious had an extra small bed and mini table with 2 chairs, plenty of space to walk in around...bed was big and comfy.

My friends were in a twin room across the corridor and their room was more than half the size. Still a basic simple room with comfy beds couple of storage for clothes. Just the size difference of rooms for same price is a bit disappointing.

Overall a good stay... location is decent 5-10 mins walk from bars restaurants and clubs. 20 mins to centre.

This hotel is quiet and well adequate for a short stay while vising Cologne. The location is good if you dont mind a bit of a walk to the local amenities. One issue I had was adjusting the hot water in the shower, I barely escaped without being scalded because the cool water valve was not releasing enough water to balance with the hot. Ouch!

After looking for a hotel in Cologne at short notice, I booked two nights at City Hotel Storch. It wouldn't have been my choice if I had more time in advance to book my accommodation in Cologne. The man at the reception who checked me in was rude, unhelpful and behaved in a weird manner. He didn't seem like he was interested in his job. I made my payment which was more than the price given on the Hotels.com website. He said the price online is for the room and the extra is other charges. Then when he asked me to fill in a form I think he noticed that I was staying with another male (the hotel check in form specifically asks for the names of any guests). He then gave me the keys to room 8 and I was shocked to find a tiny room with two tiny single beds. I haven't seen single beds so narrow in a hotel room in my life. I went back downstairs and complained and was told that when you book a room for 2 online, you can't choose whether it's a double bed or two single beds. I was unhappy that he expected me to stay in this room and move the beds together myself. The beds themselves were uncomfortable and I felt claustrophobic in the room. I wasn't offered the correct sheets or covers after putting the beds together. The bathroom was old fashioned but clean and the shower worked well. My advice is to only stay here if you don't find anywhere else to stay.

OK but poor Wifi in room

The room was fine and surprisingly the bathroom was a size up from the closet with a toilet you usually get.

There are a lot of stairs and no elevator as mentioned by other reviews. This is is not a hotel for the unfit or those with alot of luggage.

The WiFi was very weak it would time out during normal browsing. I was unable to play YouTube videos (even at low resolution) or stream music so you can forget 4k Netflix. In effect there is no usable Internet. I only stayed two nights so managed to do without but others might struggle.

Location is OK but not close to any public transport so there is no choice but to walk.

Convenient one night stay

It was a nice spacious room with a bathroom attached. It's a quiet neighborhood and everything is just a 15 minute (or less) walk away. The sheets on the bed seemed old and had holes in them, but besides that everything was clean. The bed stI'll seemed washed though, just old.

The staff were very helpful. The room was clean and spacious with a double bed and a single bed and a small bathroom. It was lovely stay. The only drawback is that I stayed in the last floor and it was difficult carrying the luggage up and down the stairs. The towels were changed and room cleaned everyday. I did not have breakfast so I can't comment on it.

Clean Bargain

City Hotel Storch was conveniently located to all of the major sights in Cologne. The hotel staff was friendly, and the room was very clean. The hotel was very basic and certainly not fancy, but as simply a place to sleep each night, it was good. A great bargain.

Nice hotel with reasonable price

The hotel located near the station, you can travel to different town such as Acchen easily.
The room in this hotel is pretty decent, even tho the building is a little bit old, but over all, it's acceptable since he price for one night is pretty low.
The owner, I assume, of this hotel is very nice, he'd guide you whenever you got any questions.

V poor service. In three days I found just one front desk attendant who was helpful. All others were careless to the point of being rude. Miserable service, not that great a location and just unhelpful staff made me rue the decision of staying in Koln at all.

A quaint center city hotel with access issues

This hotel is fine, with good-sized clean rooms and friendly desk service. However, our room was on the 3rd floor, requiring 6 steep landings to get there, with NO ELEVATOR! Thus I don't recommend it for the elderly (I'm 67) or disabled. Good price, though. Moderate street noise. NO AC (not a problem here in the spring)

the hotel was average. If you arrive later than 10 pm, make sure you make them aware via email, as they don't have receptionist 24 hours. the location is about 15/20 minutes walking to the Dom, which is not bad. The area felt safe, and not noisy. We didn't have breakfast as it wasn't included. Some of the furniture is outdated, but well kept.

Simple and clean hotel in the city

We stayed for a night in this very quiet hotel in the city of Cologne. Room was bright, spacious and clean. It was around 15 minute walk to the Cologne main train station or you can take a train (Metro) for a stop.

There are nice restaurants nearby including an Italian restaurant -- Pinocchio which is just opposite the hotel and 1 Spanish restaurant just down 1 street. Get the cologne city guide from the hotel's reception counter! :)

You just need to bring your room keys along wherever you go as the main door at the ground level may be locked. (Reception is actually at level 1)

Overall value for money.

Basic but well maintained

I found this hotel to be a good budget hotel. The room was neatly prepared, renovated, and clean. In-room amenities are basic (towels, soap, hair dryer) but sufficient for a stay when you are mostly touring/dining outside. I was pleased to see a refrigerator in the room. The location was convenient, 3-5 min. from the nearest U-bahn station and around 15min walking distance to the old city. Check-out is easy, just putting the keys in a box at the reception. The only thing for me was that the entrance wasn't apparent when I first arrived. It is a door next to a hair salon operating on the ground floor, and you have to ring to get in. There were 2-3 buttons, and the normal button did not seem to be the right one. I rang the night button (in the afternoon) and then the door was unlocked after a few moments. Also, the TV remote control did not work. But I put importance on the cleanliness/maintenance/location of the hotel, so that wasn't so bothering. Overall it was an enjoyable stay.

It was a small room but it was sufficient for the two of us (my friend and I). We had to check in at 3am and the staff was really friendly and helpful. The hotel was at a good location, near to the U and S-Bahns and it was very easy to get to the centre of cologne or around using the transport system. The location was safe and not so noisy.

We did not know where to go or where the christmas markets were but the staff was helpful in pointing out where we should go and by providing us with maps etc.

Overall, a very pleasant stay and I would recommend all who wants a cheap accommodation but a hotel instead of hostel.

If u are looking for place to stay for few nights without extra comfort, but in good conditions u would be happy. I didn't expected much, but the size of the single room I've got a little shocked me.. too small for comfortable moving inside the room itself (when the door of bathroom is open, u can't get into entrance area, and too narrow isle between both beds.. so, during couple nights of staying there i've got already couple bruises on my hands due to the handle of the bathroom door and narrow isle). I've mentioned below some things that could be improved, in case the management would want to. Don't take them too serious, they're are just details. So, if u travel and u are taking life easy, this hotel could suit u.

Good hotel that's about a 15 minute walk from Dom.

This hotel was what I expected it to be. Rather cozy yet comfortable. The shower is smaller than what I am used to and there was no A/C but from what I understand this is a bit unusally warm for Germany in July. The manager was exteremely friendly and even let me borrow an umbrella for the day because it was raining. I would definitely recommend staying here if you have simple needs and are looking for a good place to sleep above all else.

I spent two nights at this hotel in May 2013. It is a budget hotel run by former Soviets. Located about 20 min walk from Cologne central station it is conveniently located to the city's attractions. The hotel itself is kept very clean. The room I stayed in had its own bathroom and was very small. It was very small even to someone used to small European rooms. I would not recommend the hotel to anyone older or with mobility issues because the hotel has no elevator and staying there involves climbing many sets of stairs. If you don't mind small rooms, stairs to climb and can get it at low price it is a perfect place to stay for a short time.

Brilliant hotel! Rooms really big and free wifi in rooms. Location is slightly out of the centre, can walk to the train station in 20 mins or take the underground. Really good tapas bar at the end of the street, staff really polite and helpful, would definitely recommend staying here!

Check it early about 11am. Reception guy gives me top room floor saying that other rooms are not ready. I do not mind waiting but he assures me it is a good room, best wifi signal. It turns out wifi signal is very bad. Good wifi in lower floors. Room has two single beds when i want double bed. Small room just enough for 2 single beds a walk path about 60cm between beds. No sound proof at all. The first night there are some boys next room chatting loud to 1am. Cleaning men talk so loud when they do room cleaning service in the afternoon. I even think there is some kind of argument at first. Need to use train to go to city center.

This clean, simple hotel has everything a budget traveller needs. The place is well maintained, and the mostly Ukrainian staff are very friendly (and English-speaking). It's about a 15-20 minute walk from Cologne cathedral, in a fairly quiet neighborhood. A decent continental breakfast is available for 7.50 euros. Only drawback is that the wi-fi signal is strong on one side of the building but nonexistent on the other. Will gladly stay here again.

Within walking distance of cathedral & museums. Not the easiest place to find, luckily trafic was not too bad, relatively cheep all day parking 1/2km away. Lots of local bars & restaurants. Did not try breakfast. Generally an older type tired city hotel ok for 1-2 nights stay. Only good thing was the city map at reception. The most interesting thing was the booklet left in my wife & grand-daughter's room offering men & women of varying ages, heights, bust, biceps sizes in various attires. Had my grand-daughter (5 years old) been a bit older it would have given them much to talk about.

Very accessible with the S Bahn \" Metro\" in Koln. The hotel was confortable, quiet and we had everything we need.
The hotel is not luxurious, but it's clean, comfortable and close to all the major attractions in Koln, the metro is 3 min walk away.

Lets be honest, this is basic accommodation. But the room was clean, the sheets and towels were freshly laundered, and the room had a shower and wc. The room also benefitted from soap dispensers and boxes of tissues. The hotel is only 5 mins walk from koln west station, which has a frequent rail service during the day.

El hotel es sencillo, las habitaciones están limpias y lo más importante, la cama es cómoda, así que se descansa bien.
Está bien ubicado, a 5 minutos de una parada de metro y a 25 minutos a pie hasta la catedral.
El personal es agradable, y Vlad, el dueño, es encantador. Tuve un problema con mi reserva y me ayudó a resolverlo enseguida.
Lo reservaré para mi próxima estancia en Colonia.
A tener en cuenta: no tienen ascensor, así que no lo recomiendo para personas con movilidad reducida o problemas de espalda.

L’accueil du personnel a été excellent. J’avais lu de mauvais commentaires sur le petit déjeuner, mais j’ai été agréablement surpris : il était très bon ! L’hôtel ne dispose pas d’ascenseur, donc il faut monter les marches si on loge aux étages supérieurs, mais ce n’est pas un vrai inconvénient quand on le sait à l’avance. L’endroit est très propre et bien entretenu. Globalement, très satisfait de mon séjour.

The hotel is in a really nice location, everything is clean and proper and you're surrounded by food options while still being calm and cozy at night. there is no airco or fans though so if your stay is in the middle of a heatwave you will be uncomfortable.

Es ist ein sehr individuelles Hotel, was man auch am Speiseraum und der Eingangshalle sieht. Die Zimmer sind spartanisch, aber es ist alles da, was man braucht. Der einzige Nachteil vielleicht ist, dass es keinen Fahrstuhl gibt. Aber das Personal ist sehr rührend.

An für sich kann man nichts sagen. Alles ok. Parkplatzsituation eine Katastrophe. Wir mussten das Auto weiter weg parken, wir hatten damit zwar kein Problem, aber als wir zurück kamen zum Auto, war das halt beschädigt. Für ein Hotel oder Gästezimmer sollten in der Nähe Parkplätze angeboten werden. Ich werde daher nicht mehr ohne Parkplatz buchen.

Eine unscheinbare aber empfehlenswerte Adresse

von aussen unscheinbar aber innen urgemütlich. Ich habe mich während der drei Tage in meinem Einzelzimmer sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Zimmer war nich sonderlich gross, was ich aber auch nicht erwartet habe. Jedoch ist alles sehr funktionell eingrichtet. Alles drin was in grossen Zimmern auch vorhanden ist. Alles auf dem neusten Stand. Moderne saubere Dusche. Passender Kleiderschrank. Angemessene Kleidergarderobe, was in der winterlichen Jahreszeit, wo man mit etwas mehr bekleidungsstücken unterwegs ist sehr schätzt. Auch der Empang durch den Herrn in etwas reiferem Alter war sehr angenehm. Zum Glück war er da und hat die Tür aufgeschlossen. Da ich am anreisetag den zugangscode nicht erhalten hatte, war ich schon sehr in sorge darüber, wie da rein kommen würde.
