Room was good. Bed was hard and low to the ground. No closet or dresser. Had clothes everywhere by the end. You must have an iPhone or better to access the main door and your room door. No key cards or keys. No elevator which was ok except carrying luggage up 5 flights of stairs and that long walk up the stairs coming home at night. The staff was friendly and was able to check in 3 hrs early which was a great benefit. Did not receive the bottle of wine or an upgrade for gold level. Judge this as you may but the room and bathroom is separated only by a see thru glass wall. So make sure you and your roommate is comfortable pooping and showering in the open. Window looks out over a courtyard. The entire wall/window was floor to ceiling levered vertical blinds that didn’t work very well.

I've stayed at the 18Arts before and have always had a good experience. The location is perfect for my purposes in Cologne. This time I traveled with my partner, and the one drawback is the absence of a door on the toilet. It is a little awkward having to use the toilet in full view. There is also no refrigerator in the room, so if you have medicine that needs to be kept cold it's a problem. There is also no coffee machine and it is not great having to use the powdered packets (which always taste awful). There is a machine with coffee pods that is better in the reception, but it isn't always open and you don't always want to rush to shower and get dressed in order to get a coffee when you wake up. I received multiple emails from both the hotel and hotels.com to check in, which was confusing because it seemed like I had accidentally made multiple reservations. I also just prefer checking in at a reception desk. Checking in online ahead of time is a bit annoying when you're busy with other things while traveling.

Beautiful boutique hotel with art themed rooms which feels special & fun
Convenient to tourist areas, but off the main busy areas, so it is quieter, & has a more residential feel with local bakeries and shops
Convenient new high tech checkin from your phone & it works!
Friendly, helpful staff
Convenient local transport to gamescom

Areas to improve to be excellent:
Fridge in rooms, a must
Breakfast on site a must
Air-conditioning a must
Complimentary vip wine unable to leave in room chilled because there is no room fridge. It was left behind reception so we didnt use it and it took the surprise away

My friend and I stayed here, separate rooms, and both had a great stay. The staff was all friendly and helpful. I do not speak German but the staff was happy to chat in English and Spanish. The location was great and easy to get around. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby.

Not an issue for us but there is no step free access at this hotel.

The location of the 18 Arts Hotel is convenient, but it has some real issues. The biggest one is that this place has no elevator. It is really difficult to bring luggage up the stairs. And there are issues with privacy, as the rooms that I was in each had a bathroom with transparent glass walls. If you're traveling with someone who's not your partner, you may want to stay somewhere else.

A great hotel with even better staff!

Apart from our room being quite spectacular (we had the Steve McQueen room), all the other themed rooms also looks amazing. The room was well appointed with all amenities (including a hair dryer AND hair straightener) and cozy. There was a bit of noise from the street below but nothing major. It should be noted that the shower has a glass wall to the bedroom which may not be suitable for everyone. The location is perfect and is a quick jaunt to the S-Bahn and also the Cathedral. Finally, what really makes this place standout is the staff - we had the pleasure of meeting 3 of the staff and all were helpful with recommendations and accommodating any requests.

The good:
The staff were quite friendly and the area around the hotel was walkable, many of the sites were within a 20-30 minute walk.

The bad:
The room was ok, it was quite dusty, and the layout wasn't the best. The room we had was right by the main stairwell which was ridiculously noisy, the door to get in the hotel has a loud buzzer when someone opens ot which made sleeping impossible. The room was right above a bar, so that extra noise didn't help the cause either.

The amenities were ok, but nothing great. Instead of a bottle of sparkling wine, we got to single serve bottles instead.

Overall, the price to performance was not up to par. The noise prevented us from sleeping, and the room was quite dusty.

best kept secret in Cologne!

A Great small boutique hotel in the heart of the city... just far enough away from/to Cologne Cathedral / HBF... Friendliest receptionists of much of my travels... early check in was no issue when room was ready... reception area is relaxed and 'arty' with nice touches like self service coffee, snacks and good magazines.. room was 'fab'.. away from direct sunlight made it cooler by day and night... the waterbed and shell surround is both dramatic but also very practical.. the room had comp water/tea and coffee, a tablet computer plus a tv with every channel any guest could need.. the Glass walled bathroom and shower was fresh, clean and had cool toiletries, towels etc.. design features of this single room include a very strong nautical theme which made it very very relaxing... check out was again smooth and prompt... Im sad i didn't have more time to stay but its location to local amenities (Babylons pool on hot days) and restaurants makes it perfect for a city break. and it really is an Art Hotel... not just in name...

My friend and I stayed for one night and had a wonderful time! The room was super cute and we loved how there was a story available telling us the history of the pieces/design of the room. However, the shower/bathroom was completely visible from the bed, so make sure you room with someone you are very comfortable with if you stay here.

The jpte; gave me a room which required climbing up 8 flights of stairs, with heavy bags. No elevator, and no strong person to assist.

This problem was never advised, and I would not have made the booking if it were known.

Very disappointed in Expedia for not providing this essential info.

Also, totally inadequate lighting in the room, along with a clear glass separation to the bathroom which could easily be crashed into with severe consequences.

This is a great idea for a hotel; art gallery in each room. We were really excited for it. But alas, it was not meant to be. We stayed for one night, and the daytime temperature was 30degrees Celsius, and the hotel had no fans or air conditioning. They had two windows in the room to open, but there were a variety of Irish bars at the end of the street, so if the windows were open, you would hear all of that noise. But if the windows were closed, you’d over heat from the humidity. It was a lose-lose situation.
The staff were friendly and inviting.

Location was good and pretty close to city center and restaurant nearby. Very disappointed by the actual hotel and room itself though. No elevators, had to carry our large luggage up a flight of stairs with no assistance offered. The front reception lady who works there during the week (not weekend, that lady was great), was very cold and frankly came off pretty rude, even with the basics, it is not like we were asking anything of her. The room itself was something else, we got the \"time machine\" room and it felt pretty crammed and a bit dirty. For example, the red stain on the wall right behind our headboard where we slept was gross. Not sure how no one caught that and didn't clean it off. Would not stay here again, the pictures were unfortunately pretty misleading.

We had a really nice stay at the hotel, the lady on the front desk was really helpful, she booked us a taxi back to the airport as we hadn’t booked one. I’d emailed the hotel prior to ask them if they’d put chocolates in the room as it was my girlfriend’s 21st birthday they did! I went to pay for them after and they told me not to worry as it was a present from them. Thank you very much to the manager. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone.

Nice hotel, centrally located

The hotel is centrally situated about 600m from the cathedral. We stayed for 3 nights and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would single out Floran on reception for special mention. The room was OK with interesting artwork but the beds were hard. Also there was considerable noise in the morning from other residents walking up and down stairs and across their own rooms. There are no soft furnishings to soak up the sound. Breakfast was good value for the price.

We stayed there for 3 nights. The room is a studio style set up reasonably clean only had basic essentials. There is no lift so had to carry the luggage up 5 flies of stairs. WiFi was frustrating for us it kept dropping out and we needed to do some forward travel planning. Also the drainage for shower had serious issues with water stagnant for a while after a shower.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms are all completely unique. The beds were comfortable and it was extremely clean. However, be aware that in the Street Arts room, the bathroom is completely seethrough, shower included. Not an issue for us, but could be for some.

The location was perfect for walking to most tourist locations and public transport. Close to restaurants and shopping. Further, service was great. Everyone was friendly and accommodating.

Nice hotel. Easy check in. Seems like it was recently renovated and it has very interesting room decoration. There is a glass wall separating the room and the bathroom/shower. Looks very modern, but that might be a deal breaker for some.

I have stayed at 18Arts Hotel, Köln, Deutschland hotel for 1 night, after late minute booking.

It was special experience for me to stay in such nice accommodation which has very interesting concept.
Each room is unique and has different theme from each other, I stayed in the (Johannes Kleisa – Big in Japan) Design Double Room, City View.
Room edding are new and look very clean, Bathroom is new and luxury with a hot powerful shower and that's important to me.
Also hotel location is very good and close to metro station and most of the major attractions of the city.

One things need to be conceder by gusts that there is no lift! So you have to think carefully if you have heavy luggage.

All in all, it is nice accommodation with very special atmosphere and great value.

+ Mooie kamer. Wij zaten in de kamer \"Big in Japan\". De andere kamers zijn weer heel anders.
+ Handig gelegen voor shoppen en vlakbij de gezellige wijk Belgisches Viertel.
+/- De parkeergarage Im Klapperhof is op een steenworp afstand. Helaas werkt de lift niet (volgens recensies op Google al heel lang) en er liggen af en toe zwervers te slapen.
- Er is geen lift. Voor onze kamer moesten we 67 treden omhoog en er is nog een verdieping boven.
- De kamer was best warm, ook met de verwarming uit. Het raam open zetten is niet echt een optie, er is ook 's nachts af en toe lawaai op straat. Er zijn meerdere uitgaansgelegenheden iets verderop.

Alles eigenlijk via telefoon..zoals incheck uitcheck en openen van de deuren..wel echt iets meer voor mijn generatie en jonger want als ouderen geen mobiele telefoon hebben of hier niet handig zijn afrader..ligt centraal. Schone kamers alles voor handen wij hadden mauerzimmer..en de muur zou nog wel iets ludieks mogen als graffiti op de kale manier. Van mij mag de wc en douche deur met slaapgedeelte ook geblendeerd worden
Koffie werd helaas niet aangevuld op kamer rest wel..

Die Zimmer sind unterschiedlich von Designern eingerichtet worden. Im Paradies zimmer war das Bett für mich etwas zu niedrig. Das Badezimmer ist durch eine Glaswand abgetrennt.

Unser Aufenthalt war sehr sehr schön! Sehr netter, freundlicher Empfang, hilfreich!
- Dazu ein sehr gut gekühlter Piccolo Sekt zum Empfang ( oder später!!)-
Die Zimmer sind tatsächlich Gallerien : wir hatten das Mauerzimmer und das Märchenzimmer! Sowas findet man nicht in den großen Hotels, nirgends! Wir waren begeistert von der Einrichtung der Zimmer!
Die Lage ist auch sehr gut: 12-15 Minuten vom HBF, und ruhig!!
Wir werden auf jeden Fall dieses Hotel wieder buchen, wenn wir in Köln sind!

Empfang war sehr nett, wir hatten eines der unterschiedlichen Designzimmer = Big in Japan. Zimmer im Dachgeschoss, gut gekühlt mit Ventilator, Bett bequem. Die Schiebetür zum Bad klemmt etwas, die Lage zur Friesenstraße ist recht laut - offene Fenster am Wochenende im Sommer quasi unmöglich. Wenn man jedoch selber lange feiert und einen tiefen Schlaf hat ist die Lage perfekt.

Wir hatten ein sehr schönes Zimmer. Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Fürs Frühstück muss man in ein anderes Hotel ein paar Meter weiter, aber dort gab es alles was das Herz an einem Sonntagmorgen so begehrt. Wir würden uns hier beim nächsten Mal wieder einquartieren.

Konsept otel farklı bir deneyimdi,güzeldi. Biz street tarzında kaldık daha güzel odaları var. Merkeze aşırı yakın değil 15-20dk yürünmesi gerekiyor. Asansör olmaması kötüydü. İkramları çok tatlıydı, her şey düşünülmüş saç düzleştiricisi bile vardı. Resepsiyon ilgili ve yine çok tatlılardı. Banyo tuvalet cam bilerek gidilmesi gerekiyor banyo yapınca tuvalete doğru su gidiyor ve pis ıslak oluyor ama kısa kaldığımız için çok dert etmedik. Isınma kötü kaloriferi sonda açmamıza rağmen ısınmadı hiç soğuktu. Eksiklikleri olsa da memnun kaldık farklı bir deneyim yaşamak isterseniz tercih edebilirsiniz.
