The hotel is in an excellent position to get to the Cathedral and the markets. It’s situated on a very busy road full of pubs and clubs so if you land up with a room at the front, you will have to put up with a lot of noise until 4.00am or so.

The rooms are quite dated with poor lighting and no tea/coffee making facilities.

The bathrooms are small but well lit and recently updated.

The hotel was absolutely fine for our needs but just be aware that it is on a very busy street for bars so depending on which side you stay it can be noisier. We found the pillows to be very flat - one of us slept with 3 and the other used the spare duvet plus 1! We also had to keep the window open the whole time despite it being December because of how hot the room was and there was no aircon, so I would struggle to stay here at any other time of the year.

Das Zimmer war ausreichend für eine Person, es gab sogar ein kleines Sofa.
Allerdings war mein Zimmer ziemlich abgewohnt.
Die Tür zum Bad war \"ausgefranst\", in der Dusche war Schimmel, am Nachtschrank das Furnier abgeplatzt...
Ich hatte ein einziges Glas und das war zum Zähneputzen.
Ja, ich hätte alles an der Rezeption bekommen, ich will aber nicht wegen allem fragen müssen.
Das Hotel hat definitiv keine 4 Sterne verdient!

The location is good (near metro and Gloria) but there’s an awful smell in reception (toilets, maybe). This was really annoying for me as check-in took ages - 2 guys behind the desk taking ages to check-in the party ahead of me. Shower was a bit mad and no deadlock on the door, so not sure I’d go back.

Zentral gelegen, aber trotzdem ruhig.

Sauberere Zimmer und Flure, aber man merkt das alter der Zimmer und Bäder doch an (zB TV mind. 10 Jahre, Duschwanne, gerade für ältere ein Problem etc), aber ruhig gelegen.
Tiefgarage vorhanden und reichhaltiges Frühstücksbüffet.

Hotel very comfortable and renovations ongoing during stay.
Bathroom door was disintegrating with the damp and wouldn’t shut properly.
Some noise from the local bars - we were on the sixth floor and it didn’t bother us but would be different with small children.
Great location with a private car park and walking distance from the city centre.

I made a wrong booking and booked this hotel instead of anotherone with the same name, asked them for a refund but they refused and had to stay away from all my colleagues, they also charge 29 Euro per day for the parking whichbwas not considered as well. Very greedy

Praktischen Hotel mit super Frühstück

Hervorragend war das Frühstück und die inkludierte Minibar mit Bier Cola und Wasser.
Das Zimmer an sich ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und mit Teppich und braunen Holzmöbeln ausgestattet.

Das parken ist leider recht teuer aber für die Location absolut gerechtfertigt.
Die Einfahrt ist allerdings sehr eng.

Standort ist top und es gibt viele Restaurants in der Nähe.

Der Reinigungsservice leistetet währned meines Aufenthaltes leider keine zufriedenstellende Arbeit.

Bei Ankuft waren fremde Haare auf dem Boden im Bad was grundsätzlich passieren kann aber wenn man zwischen den Tagen das Zimmer reinigen lässt sollte es spätestens dann auch entfernt werden. Das war leider nicht der Fall.

Nice hotel,, comfy beds, great shower. Only downside in room is 2 english speaking channels. Arrived on autumn internationals weekend and Irish bar almost next door with mulitple screens for the rugby and many other sports. Food here is good and value for money. A few nice restaurants in immediate vicinity. Main station is just under a 15 minute walk in a straight line! Will defintely use again if I need to stay in Cologne.

Quaint Hotel with an Excellent Location

Mercure Hotel Köln Friesenstraße is a Hotel Located in the Heart of Cologne; Surrounded by Restaurants and Entertainment, staying here, you'll never be short of things to see or do. It's also incredibly easy to navigate to and from the hotel without any use of maps or guides because of its excellent location.

The staff here are welcoming and friendly, many of whom, speak excellent English so there is completely no hassle at all with any queries that you may have and they will go out of their way to make your experience perfect.

The rooms are quite spacious as well, and extremely clean. Every day all the sheets, quilts and towels are all changed by a cleaner. They also replace all drinking glasses, clean the windows and dust everywhere. There is even someone who comes to stock up the minibar daily (The minibar is also free, how cool is that?).

The room also comes with a flatscreen TV with over 100 channels (German channels though, so take that as you will.), Air-conditioning Unit and a Kettle. There is also a desk with a lamp, and the bathroom comes equip with a shower, quite a big bath and a hair dryer. My only grudge with the room is that it all looks quite old fashioned rather than modern, and the view we had wasn't that great, but that doesn't really bother me because the room was great otherwise.

There is a restaurant in the hotel but it is really expensive, so we never tried it ourselves.

Overall I had a brilliant stay and would definitely stay there again.

A nice clean hotel, well situated for exploring the centre of Köln. Somewhat dated, but comfortable. Pleased to see that extra pillows & bedding were provided. We had to ask reception staff to sort out the air conditioning & even then it was a bit temperamental.

A bit 90's

I stayed at the hotel for one night and found it quite depressing. The decor was quite dated, the bed very soft and the view outside was not the best. The bathroom was really small and awkward to move in.

On a positive note the staff were friendly and accomodating by changing my initial room that was right next to the lift and had a brick wall view.

The room had all the equipment you would expect for a hotel this price but my general view is that the place just needs a bit of an uplift.

The hotel is looking old and tired now. However, any experience in this hotel is overwhelmed by a strong smell like sewage through all public areas.

Breakfast is €24, and you get to eat it while breathing in this terrible smell.

I believe we should be partially refunded.

Nice city. Wonderful old town and Dom. We had one of the most beautiful experiences in life. We met with a big part of our family from Rhede, (town close to Bocholt) for the first time in our life. We spent great time with them. We went to a soccer game to see Bayern Munich, my favorite team.

In a lively part of Koln, surrounded by bars and restaurants; convenient for the centre and mass transit systems. Good breakfast (first with proper fresh orange juice in 7 Cologne hotels). No pool or gym. No aircon in the room but has a fridge.

Great location, but beware during Carnival!

Very nice hotel, but we stayed during a carnival weekend. Our room was on the front of the hotel (facing Friesenstrasse), on a high floor, and we heard loud thumping music all night long. Next time, I'll request the back side!

Mediocre hotel, too far from the city

The hotel furnishing is dated, it needs renovation. The chair was dusty. We were given 4 paper cups (no glasses) for every night stay. The bathroom was not very clean either. It was a long walk to town every day. The only thing I liked was that the room was soundproof. If given a choice, I'd have chose another hotel closer to the scenic Cologne.

The hotel was great except for getting English tea so bring your own if you want a decent cup of tea.
The only bad thing I've got to say is that we went out at 11 in morning to the Dom markets 10-15 mins walk caught bus to all other markets which is really easy to get around. Got back to hotel at 6pm to find our bedroom door open and beds had been made .
Luckily none of our things Had been taken but because there are no safes in rooms we left money and passports etc in rooms so could of been worse.
Hotel staff seemed shocked when I told them but I got no feedback to say it had been addressed
Apart from that this hotel is great location next to a great Irish bar where we ended up every night

Decent stay, shower head broke on first use, tough time getting staff to fix it in the day. Internet was free, but horrible quality, couldn't get a connection unless I was in the bathroom or in an odd corner of the room, and even then it was quite slow. I needed to use the wifi to check and send a work emai and I had to sit in the toilet to get it to barely work and send a normal message in 30 minutes.

I had a horrible stay at this hotel, poor service at the front desk. The room (211) had no circulation, no fan, no air conditioning and was hot and they only suggested i open the window and it was noisy outside. I had a poor nights sleep and paid a really high rate.

Street noise might be an issue for some

Good location to stay as you can access a lot from here. Typical accommodations for this chain so no surprises there. However, there are a number of night clubs on the street which were'nt open when we were there. Knowing weekend frivolity typical of German cities, I can see noise being a factor. We were there on a Tuesday night and could hear some revelers (for a Tuesday!). So if you want a totally quiet night, that may be an issue for you. That said, this is a good place to stay.

Have stayed in this hotel several times and never been disappointed. Next door is the best Irish bar in Cologne (Jameson's .........pub quiz/karaoke/speed dating) but you would never know as the soundproofing is excellent. The hotel has it's own underground car park which is very convenient as parking is not easy to find in the surrounding streets.

Decent Hotel, Walking Distance To Many of Cologne

I was apprehensive of the distance from city centre, but after one walk of approx 15mins with carryall, I knew my way back and forth. It's a simple straight path and the location is awesome, food places in front and high street only 2 mins walk away.

Staff was nice and allowed us to check in early at 1030. Room is clean and tidy, daily room service and even a pot of sweets on valentines day. Only thing I wasn't happy with was the issue with slow flow rate in bath plug hole. 1min into a shower and water is above my ankle. Complaint to the front desk on first day, told them I'm going out so please fix it. Nothing was done, came back day 2, second lot of staff knew of issue and will be fix. Still nothing. Right up to the last day, still not fixed.

Not a manor issue but definitely gave me a bad impression to an overall great holiday and hotel for location, comfort and rest.

Would visit again, but ensure they fix it on day one and not get the fob around from different shift staff.

Oh and the Japanese across the road, all you can eat is a grwat place to dine when you cannot be bothered to head too far out. Dwlicious!

Mercure Hotel is overall OK for the price category. Good service, good breakfast. The main reason why I wouldn't stay in this hotel again is that the wifi internet is by far the worst I've seen in a really long time. If you're fine with that, this hotel is OK. Otherwise, stay away.

This hotel is within walking distance of Cologne cathedral, the main shopping areas, the river and lots of restaurants. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable with a nice bathroom and air conditioning. There is also an underground car park on site. There are numerous bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk. Ideal if you are in Cologne.

It is such a hard time staying in a room with direct sunshine until 9pm without air ventilation. What I mean ventilation isn't the missing of air conditioning but there's no fan and the window can only open up to a few centimeters only. There's room with air conditioning but maybe I missed this important feature while booking, but sorry I really expects basic air ventilation for breathing.

This hotel's staff were insulting and manipulative and refused to book me in unless I joined their points programme. I would never recommend anyone stay here. The hotel is surrounded by bars with violent patrons who break bottles and drinking glasses in the streets after closing, and you can hear it for the longest time until they either leave the area or pass out.

Close to an excellent connecting underground, 10 minute walk to the Dom, lovely staff, free mini bar, almost next to great Beerhall - what's not to like !
Eat outside at Freissenplatz square and had a lovely meal , trip on the Rhine and a fantastic evening at Papa Joe's jazz bar in the old town , all in all a great 2 night break.

Would definitely recommend it!

We just stayed there for one night and the stay was very very pleasant and comfortable. The room has everything one will need, from bathroom supplies to kettle and other appliances. The bed was very comfortable and the room is spacious and nice. The location of the hotel is great as the neighbourhood is very beautiful and quiet and the Dom is within walking distance. There is even a supermarket that opens til 2400 nearby. Staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful (and pretty!)and recommended places for us to visit. We would definitely recommend this hotel to people who are going to travel to Koln.

Sociable location, good stay

Cracking location - easy to find, near Koln Cathedral/Dom and Hbf.
Had a room at back of hotel, which meant no view BUT it was silent at night which was great!

Tipycal Business hotel

It is at a busy area. One would say it is vibrant or noisy. Tou want really hear noise from your room, at least mine. The hotel is typical business style hotel. clean , comfortable and free mini bar. But the deco is pretty out dated.

Fabulous service, great location.

Everything was great throughout our stay. Staff were always ready to go an extra mile to deliver excellent service.

Room was clean. Mini bar with free beer, cola drink and water, was replenished every time. No problem.

The only cons were 1) the water was dirty when we ran the bath on the first night. Subsequently, it was ok. 2) the bathroom was a little bit cramped. 3) the pillows were too soft!
