Lovely hotel. Everything is clean and well maintained. The majority of the staff are friendly and approachable. A great selection for breakfast. A glass or cup in the room would have been a nice, useful extra. Maybe even a bottle of water. Visitors should be aware that the hotel is on many different levels. Stairs are everywhere.

Nice hotel, good location

Happy with location, lost of places all around for food and drinks, tram stop close by so easy to get around, or only 24 minute walk from train station. Room has everything you need. We didnt have a view as looked out on a stairwell but this was a short sightseeing trip so view not needed as only in room to sleep.

The staff at the check in was unfriendly.
The room was very small but in good conditions (business room). The bed is a single very small bed with a too big pillow.
On the day of the check out the elevator was broken so I had to make the stairs up and down without any help.

Be careful what rooms you are getting when you stay here. We had the smallest oldest rooms in the roof of the building which they don’t show on the website. Looks good from online but in reality not pleasant. Also breakfast very average.

This is our favourite hotel in Cologne. It's really convenient for two of the main Christmas Markets and easy walking distance of the others. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable and modern and one of the few central hotels with car parking. Great breakfast too.

A little gem in the Rudolfplatz section of Cologne

I've stayed 6 times at this hotel over the years and have finally cracked the code for a great visit. This friendly business hotel is a patchwork of different connected buildings with some rooms far from the reception and only accessable up a half flight of stairs to the elevator. Rooms in the main building are in the more expensive catagories but the 15% or so difference in price makes a world of difference in comfort. Request a business double for single use if travelling alone in the main building accessable directly by elevator with a bathtub and you can wind up with a generously sized room and bathroom of 4 star quality at a 3 star price. Location is fantastic - just steps away from Rudolfplarptz and all it's Public Transit options. Breakfast Buffet is good and plentiful but prepay it at the time of booking and you'll save yourself €4 per breakfast eaten over the \"walk in\" price. Hotel is clean with some sections more modern than others.

The room was clean, nice, and basic. The people at the reception was very nice and I thought it was a great value. However, the room was super cold because there were no heater control in the room. Also, there were people screaming outside until 5am in the morning which was not pleasent. But overall it was good. I really recommend the hotel to have a personal heater control device installed.

My double room had recently been renovated it was very nice indeed. I stayed at this hotel several times and I always take a room to the inner courtyard since it is quiet at night. There was no coffee maker in the room and that it would cost 5 euros per day extra which I declined. However I was offered a kettle for free. Coffee makers are really a necessity and charging 5 Euros per day was a bit steep. One other issue is that there’s some 27 steps to climb before you reach an elevator on the left side ioff the hotel. The hotel should offer assistance if requested by the guests. I watched several people check in and have issues getting up those stairs with the baggage.The buffet breakfast on the other hand is superb and reasonably priced.

It’s a difficult one to rate. On paper it looks good, The staff are very nice and the breakfast is great. The Hotel is located close to public transport. It can get busy and loud at night, but it’s not too bad. Perfect location for Stags and paeties. Prepare to use the stairs. Lifts are there but still a stairway away :-)

Spotlessly clean and very comfortable room. Plenty of hot water. Friendly service. Wi-fi access system was a bit flaky on my Android phone: I had to keep logging back in, but OK on our laptop. Unfortunately the lifts start from the first floor, so you have to carry your bags up one flight of stairs - not so good if they are very heavy. The neighbourhood has lots of interesting bars, shops and restaurants and is between two U-Bahn stops. A potential downside of that is that it might be a bit noisy for some tastes.Breakfast is good while a bit pricey, but there are lots of alternatives nearby.

Everything you need in a good location

Everything was as it supposed to be in a big hotel with almost 30 rooms per floor. No real personal contact with the stuff, just the basic communication.
The room was spacious and clean. The bed and pillows though were a total failure. Pillows too thin and bed too hard made sleep difficult.
Anyway for a short trip it was an overall OK experience but for a longer stay i wouldn't recommend.

Great location with many coffee shops, supermarkets and bars.Dom cathedral pleasant walk via choice of pedestrian streets and many 'refreshments' stops on the way. Don't forget to visit the Nespresso shop..huge selection and much cheaper than London!

A great room / suite with a huge sitting area and separate sleeping area to say nothing of a massive bathroom with separate shower and bath.

Really conveniently located close to Rudolfsplatz and a short walk to the other Christmas markets and main shopping area of Cologne.

The only problem was that in our part of the hotel the lift started on the first floor so luggage had to be manhandled up stairs to reach the lift.

Watch out for the pillars in the car park though - I scrapped a door trying to manoeuvre round them! The angles are all wrong in a right hand drive car.

Great place to stay in Cologne

We've stayed here before, several times. It's superbly located for the City Centre with it's shops and Christmas Markets (The Rudolfsplatz Market is just round the corner). The hotel is comfortable, clean but unpretentious, with a convenient underground car park (extra charge but not too much) and a superb breakfast (excellent value)

We have stayed at this hotel twice before, and each time the staff have been very polite.
The rooms are spacious, and the food at breakfast was very good.
They only thing stopping the room comfort getting 5 is the pillows that are used are way to soft.
The bar staff very friendly, and i gave one of the waiters my flashing gloves as he found they amazing. I'm sure we will be back again for another stay, perfect location for the xmas markets, starting at the nearest one which was only round the corner.

Only downside is the mattress, it was impossible to sleep due to the hard and uncomfortable mattress we had to ask for extra blanket to put on it to make it a little softer. It felt like you are sleeping on a cardboard really.

Stayed here for 3 nights and paid probably the same as what I'd pay at a hostel! The single bed was big enough for me and I'm quite tall. The room was clean and modern, and had everything I needed. I read other reports about the rooms being noisy, and the ones on the first floor probably are - luckily my room was located on the top floor and there was no noise whatsoever.

I was a bit confused as to whether or not Wi-Fi would be free as a few sources seemed to conflict, but it was indeed free, and strong and fast.

Reception staff were very friendly and helpful and were able to recommend places to eat/see nearby. Location is great, about a 10-15 min walk to the Dom, and heaps of restaurants, supermarkets etc. nearby!

Breakfast was your typical German fare and cost an extra €9, but that was pretty consistent with other eating options around the area and was worth it - and I normally avoid hotel breakfasts. Skip the coffee though!

Great for Art Cologne visit!!

I'd stayed at the Flandirscher Hof in 2011 so I was previously aware of the hotel. It has a great location, clean minimal lodgings and a great staff. There is a buffet breakfast for 9 euros that I recommend if you are traveling on a budget. It may not have the glamour of the other hotels that are recommended to visitors of the Art Cologne fair but it is a solid contender for making your trip a great experience.

The hotel staff informed me this bar was not part of the hotel. I took the matter up with the manager and I was satisfied with how they handled the issue.

Smart hotel on the edge of the city centre

The hotel was quite smart and as expected from its description on Expedia. It was conveniently located for walking into Koln city centre altohugh some people may want to be closer to the city centre.

Due to the hot weather during my stay, it was necessary to kee pthe windows open at night. This was not too much of an issue on the first night. However, on the Friday night the noise from the nearby bars was very loud and went on until around 2am (at least it went very quiet after this time!)

The car park at the hotel was convenient and a typical price for hotels in the area. If you are using the car park, this needs careful negotiation. It is very tight to manoeuvre in places and there is evidence of people having previously collided with walls and columns.

The swipe card I was given for the room and car park was temperamental and usually required several attempts to open the door/barrier.

This is a clean and well run Hotel. However our room was noisy at night as we were situated over the front busy street and the late bar. Taxis and guests at the entertainment could be heard until 2.30 am each night. Not very conducive to a good nights sleep. We asked for a change of room and were shown a room near the air conditioning unit which was also noisy . we chose this hotel for its convenience to the Altstadt but in hindsight would prefer to commute due to sleepless nights.

Good Room for a Decent Price

We went for the XMas markets, good location for a good price. Parking was available for 14 euro a day, we missed the street to the structure and just opted to use a public structure not far away for 17 euro a day.

On a side note, if you go during the XMas markets, avoid rush hour like the plague. We drove from near Frankfurt to Koeln in 2 hours and spent an *additional* 1 hour to make the last 3km across the bridge.

Nice for the price

Its not near anything, except perhaps a fussganger shopping street, but it was nice. If you need to be nearer the Cathedral, this is not the spot for you. But if you are willing to walk a mile or so to get to the cathedral, this could be a good choice. A very nice room for the money.

Flandrischer Hof - worth it

Although we paid a lot to stay here, having come at a very busy time, the hotel did the job: clean, friendly, and spacious enough. A vibrant area full of restaurants, bars, cafes and shops, right next to a major public transport interchange. They changed our bedding easily and on request. The 3pm check-in time seemed a bit late, but maybe that's the norm in Germany.

It wasn't spectacular or luxurious, but I'd have no hesitation recommending a stay here for people on a short break in Cologne - just try to go at a cheaper time than we did...

Reasonably priced business hotel

This is quite a way back from the river and centre, which is fine if daylight and walking, but not so good if you are on your own and walking back in the evening.

Taxis are plentiful however, and the tram stops just near it at rudophplatz.

There are plenty of eating options around as well as in the hotel.

Breakfast 9 euros if not included in room cost. Good selection and your own pot of coffee in thermos style flasks at the table so you can keep topping it up without keep asking.

Pillows much too soft and no other options in room.

Staff very friendly , room was very clean . location was very good close to restaurants/bars/shopping , 20 min walk to cathedral/old town/river. Room was on the small sze and got quite hot , i would recommend upgrading to the business room which i saw and had much more room than the standard one. room was quiet though. didn't use the piano bar/restaurant so can't comment . no wifi in rooms and is charged for in lobby so go to starbucks (there are many close by) have a coffee and have free wifi. overall a good budget hotel a good 3star hotel.

Flandrischer Hof Hotel in Cologne, Germany

Even though this is only a 3 star Hotel it is nevertheless good value. It has a car park (although access is extremely tight), it is reasonably central, particularly for the price you pay, being 15/20 minutes from the Cathedral and/or the Rhine with lots of great cafes and restaurants close by. Our room was spacious and comfortable and surprisingly quiet . NEGATIVES: The Hotel is located in a one way street and if you don't know where you are going it is extremely difficult to find particularly late on a busy Friday night! Also no tea/coffee facilities. Finally, a very bad stain on the hallway carpet of our floor was most unpleasant and no attempt had been made to clean it up or repair it. Other than that - a good hotel to consider.

Central to Rudolfplatz

I've stayed at this hotel several times, although it's been over 4 years since I've stayed there last. This hotel is very centrally located, closest to Rudolfplatz, which is a thriving area full of restaurants, bars and clubs and fun parties. However, the hotel is actually situated right off the main street, so it's fairly quiet, particularly if you get a room at the back.

The basic rooms are small, but they are very clean, and they've been newly refurbished. However, the TVs weren't upgraded, but this didn't bother me as much, as I don't travel to Cologne to watch German TV. (Although the hotel has stopped airing Sky News and only airs BBC World news)

My only major complaint is that they previously gave out wireless internet for free to all guests. Now, they charge 15 Euros a day. This is an outrageous price, in my opinion, so try to plan accordingly (buy a local sim card and use that in your smart-phone), or be sure to check wireless internet rates before you book.

Spacious rooms, very clean, good service, lots of facilities, quiet hotel (although do expect some traffic noise when the room is located at the backside where the ring and the shops are, nothing too much though)

Cologne - Good location

This hotel is located in a good location for going out. There is a tram station nearby but walking around is a good way to see the city. The hotel is comfortable. No Wi-Fi though. Breakfast is good and has outdoor garden.

Incomplete information on extra charges, inadequate \"business\" upgrade

Although the hotel was well maintained and the staff were wonderful, Expedia's description of the amenities leaves something to be desired. Internet service is available but for an extra daily charge, which is unfortunately not mentioned, and the \"business suite\" upgrade was of little value -in my case, at least- as the \"desk\" was barely large enough to support the CRT televison. Don't expect to have a working space. The included breakfast buffet was quite nice. the Ring Road is next to the hotel, which is quite noisy with revellers at night and weekends. A number of nearby cafes have open (free) wifi networks, which is a nice plus if you are taking your work with you.

This hotel is centrally located and was within walking distance to the attractions and at christmas is near to many christmas markets a bonus.

The hotel was well located for the Christmas Markets. We found the service to be good. There was a large variety at breakfast.

Great location

We visited Cologne by the end of October. The room was comfortable, the personnel was very courteous. Very good breakfast in the morning. The hotel is well located. If I come back to Cologne, I will use the same hotel.
