Had a good 2 night stay at The Pavilion.
Lovely character manor house kind of property.
All staff (even though quite young) were friendly and efficient.
Good location as could hop on a bus into the city.
Parking (payable) at the hotel or park on street free if any spare spaces.
Rooms were ok/fine, had to move from 1st one as towel rail and also toilet roll holder were both hanging off the walls.
They upgraded us for free to king room. This was a good size although carpet showing slight signs of wear.
Bathrooms were small but adequate, although a bit of a musty smell.
Breakfast was fab 🔟, plenty of choices Inc fruit, cereal, pastries and also cooked as well.

All in all a good stay, easy to explore York and good pub The Plough down the road

Would recommend.

Tried this hotel for the first time. This charming and comfortable hotel, sensitively evolved from a historic town house into a modern hotel with period atmosphere. Was well worth the visit. The hotel has accessible rooms which complied with our specific requirements. Well designed rooms with regulation fixtures and fittings but with an old world feel. The accessible rooms front onto a small attractive courtyard. Staff are excellent. Food is excellent although only breakfasts are served at this time. This hotel does not feature the 'sterility' of front line hotels. Amp full parking is available including about 8 spaces for electric cars where owners can joyfully watch their vehicles depreciate at £1 per minute. There is a charge for overnight parking but blue badge holders are free.

A lovely hotel set in beautiful surroundings, offering cosy, comfortable rooms that make for a relaxing stay. There are several pubs nearby, and it’s easy to reach York city centre by bus, or by a scenic 40-minute walk. A great balance of peace and convenience — I’ll definitely be returning.

The staff are lovely and helpful and the hotel was so Christmassy!

On the good side, for what we paid, I don't think it can be denied that this hotel offers value for money. And the staff are very pleasant. But the hotel is tired and this shows in several areas. The cooked breakfast here used to be fantastic, but now the quality of the sausage is poor and you only get half a piece of black pudding which seems a little miserly. I see lots of comments about the car park, we knew in advance, so no shock but £15.00 a night is pretty unreasonable for Fulford, it isn't right to compare to City Centre Hotels and apply a similar rate here. Whilst the rooms are tired, they are clean. Some of the carpets are a bit threadbare and the 5 steps between rooms 55 and 56 are downright dangerous and in urgent need of structural attention. Having used this hotel as a family over many decades, one expects some fluctuations in the standard over time but I suspect many would prefer to pay a little bit more and see the hotel receive some much needed investment. Without improvements, we will probably start booking elsewhere in future.

Deluxe room, not a chance. Very tired and more than old fashioned. Putting a sign in the reception saying the hotel is ‘old fashioned’ is not a reason or an excuse. Furniture being moved noisily after 12 midnight in the courtyard under the bedrooms unacceptable.

On the outskirts of York but has regular transport links into the city centre. Had great breakfast options during the week but the weekend buffet is slightly less impressive but adequate. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Room was clean and of a decent size. There’s some eateries within a two minute walk - highly recommend the nearby sandwich shop. Would definitely staff here again.

I stayed for four nights in early Oct. The hotel is a former Georgian house with a small 1990s extension built favourably to match the original house which has once been the home of James Bond composer John Barry. There are three courtyards, the centre yard having the appearance of an old farm yard, cobbled stones and many bushes and trees. I stayed in the Scarborough Room, a pleasant and spotless room with comfortable bed, coffee table and chairs and a desk with TV and hot drinks facilities. The bathroom was ample however shower head could benefit from replacement. The water was always very hot. The hotel ground floor benefits from a large reading room (with vibes of Downton 😄) and two reasonably sized dining rooms, both of a pleasant and classy decor. There is also a bar lounge area which also doubles as a breakfast room. The decor however reminds me of a late 80s/early 90s wine bar. Pleasant but perhaps worthy of update. The breakfast options are very good, ranging from cereal, to full English and other quality cooked items. Although my intention was not to eat in every night, I soon changed my mind after the first evening meal which was superb. I choose Chicken Supreme which was fantastic, as were all other meals. There is however a 7.5 per cent discretionary service charge. The staff are very smart, polite, welcoming and a credit to the hotel. Would I stay again? Definitely

Husband got stuck in the bathroom, I had to push & then kick the door to open it from the outside!!

In a nice area with good transport into the city, although this is walkable. Only downside was the \"nominal\" fee for parking was £15 per night.

Room had huge cobwebs in every corner. Very dusty. Toilet was very finicky to flush if we got it to at all.
Room was also freezing. The window was open when we got in and the heat was not turned on.
When we mentioned this in the morning the front desk brushed us off saying the heat hasn’t been turned on yet as it will get warm again next week. We froze all night long! Awful sleep on narrow beds with flat pillows in the cold.

NOT RECOMMENDED. Cleaning of the bathroom can only be described as systematically neglected. For a \"premium\" room to be carpeted with strips of stair carpet stitched together is comical. On top of that, having to pay to park at the property is money grabbing. Our room was above a function room where a wedding was taking place, a fact that was only advised to us three days before our visit with no option to move to an alternative room. Spend your money somewhere else.

An amazing stay

The staff was very welcoming on our arrival and very helpful.
Our room was 49. The very clean and the bed was very comfortable then only issue was the fan in bathroom didn’t go off once the light had been turned off so all night the fan was low back ground noise. But everything else was lovely and breakfast the next morning was amazing and plenty off food to eat.
Would definitely stay again and recommend to family /friends.

Comfortable country-house style hotel

My room was comfortable and clean, with everything I needed. The bedroom was not huge, but the bathroom was. The four-poster bed was very comfy, and there was just enough space to unpack my things and put them away. The bathroom had lots of floor space, a good shower over the bath, and a large mirror.

One downside was that there was no view to speak of, one window looks out over a flat roof and the other looks at a wall. Another downside is that parking and breakfast are charged extra to the room.

However, the rest of the hotel had comfortable space to sit, both outside and inside. Also, the hotel is on a main road (not thst I noticed from inside) so it is easy to get to, drive from, and is on a frequent bus route.

The staff were also very friendly and helpful. I saw the staff help with luggage and noticed that there is a clothes mending service too.

I would happily stay again.

The hotel was ok, quite a small entrance , lots of stairs,there's no lift, no good if you have a problem using stairs. You can park the car on.the main road, outside the hotel for free. Charged me £15 for parking even though I’d already paid it. They then refunded the charge.
So I checked out in the morning and agreed that everything was paid.
They then charged me another £15, AFTER I had left the premises. This time was an unauthorised payment taken from my account, without permission.
After phoning them and asking WHY, they said that it was a mistake, and will refund the money they took.

Ok hotel

Old hotel so the rooms show it, however slept well. Downstairs is lovely.Felt the receptionist could be a bit more friendly and welcoming. £30 for car parking felt too much, asked for it immediately. Thonk on street is free. Didn't have breakfast, had thought we booked B&B but informed room only strangely another couple said the same. Bar staff were lovely. Had lunch which was nice. 25 minutes walk into town.

Had a fantastic stay here. The staff were excellent. Only gripe I would say is that the room was sweltering, with no fan or Aircon. Would definitely stay again though.

Could be so much better.

The sign at the door regarding the age of the property doesn't explain worn carpets in the bedroom! Nor does it explain the very limited menu of which items had run out on what appeared to be a very quiet Saturday night. What items were available we had to chase up as they had forgotten. Charging for parking may be normal in York. We had low expectations based on the previous reviews we read but we chose this hotel for it's proximity to the racecourse. It has character but could be so much better.

Charming building, room was very hot

It is a lovely charming old building which we generally love and respect. Sadly we were there on a hot day and the room with its poor ventilation and no AC, it was like an oven. There was a gentle breeze outside and we had a lovely pleasant dinner in the garden. But sleeping in that heat was impossible despite the small table fan provided. We were exhausted the following day. I would not recommend the room in summer. Staff were lovely, food was nice. Shame we could not get the much needed good night's sleep. The lino in the bathroom did not do it's charm much good, but it was the heat that got to us.

I booked a Superior King room but we were given a standard double, when we asked at reception if this was the correct room, the receptionist lied and told us the booking information stated it was a double. I could easily see my details on her screen, which clearly stated the correct Superior King room. She gave us new keys for our room which ended up being a Deluxe King, not a Superior. Not what I'd booked: basic room, bath filled right up when shower was being used, no extractor fan in the bathroom so everything was damp and soaked. Car park cost us £15.

This is one of the quietest hotels I have stayed at in York.The staff were excellent.The hotel was perfect for our needs and was ten minute drive to where we needed to go.They had on site private parking.The breakfast was excellent,lots of choices.

Charming hotel but showing signs of its age. Could do with refurbishment in the rooms as it’s been a while since they were last done. It’s all a bit dated inside which, for a hotel playing on its history is possibly part and parcel of it, but it doesn’t scream boutique.

But a lot of people love that kind of thing so this is their hotel.

Parking at £15 a night is, however, extortionate. I’d expect a hotel like this to give free parking to its guests. (I know street parking is free but you would expect a hotel like this to have it complementary).

Food was average. Nothing wrong with it but nothing exceptional either. I’d probably venture into York next time & partake of one of the restaurants there. Easily walkable from the hotel, it takes about 30 mins or so.

No useful power points in the room. It is 2025 not 1925. Need power and sockets within easy reach. Bedside table for recharging phone would be really useful.

Having to pay a £50 charge on arrival and then claim a refund in the morning is so bizarre. What do they expect - that I’m going to trash the room rock n roll style or steal a towel?

The property in itself is lovely. The interior is in need of a major refurb. Details like no usb charging points . Mattress in need of replacement carpet looking threadbare curtain rail parts falling off.. Food is good but not exceptional. Prices too high for what it is . Parking very expensive considering it's not in the city centre etc etc. Parking on the road ( The A19 ) A major trunk road is not a good option..

Let down by parking charges!

I've stayed in this hotel several times before and do like the location. Close to the designer shopping outlets and the park and ride service, or pick up the P&R bus judt outsidecthe hitel, it is quite convenient.
Breakfast is cooked to order and the staff are plesant.
Its an older hotel, so there are a few creaks and groans, chipped paint etc but on the whole clean and tidy.
What does let it down is the lack of plug points at the bedside and car parking charges. Our email booking advised there were parking charges in place (it used to be free) but they were \"nominal\". £15 per day is expensive and added £45 onto our 3 day stay. They do say you can park on the (busy, main) road but thst might be a challenge as its a busy residential area with home owners also parking on the street. The £15 charge doesnt guarentee a space and the car park can be busy.
Its a nice hotel in a good location however the hidden car parking fees might make the difference between staying here or somewhere else.
