Cozy hotel, interesting local thought as nice that it was near a bunch of food and bus stops. Room was tight but cheap. The people there were very nice, the bed was alright, there was a mattress cover on it but it would slide sometimes when I was not sleeping and the bed frame had to rest against the wall since it would rock otherwise. Definitely not a luxurious stay but it does the job if you only use it to sleep. Wouldn’t recommend if you plan on staying in your hotel room long.

This location is centrally located in downtown where you can walk within 20 min, you can get to King’s palace, Myoung-dong(shopping center), Revitalized creek urban park, many subway access, line 2,3,and 5. Also easy to get to Seoul train station.
Amazing location and so many dinning options without traveling far! The host was super nice and had many suggestions. One can access to the hotel easily through Bus or Rail (direct from Inchon airport).

The people who run this place were exceptional....so much so that I actually burst into tears the night before I left. I miss them so much already and if I am able to visit Korea I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The location is just brilliant, facilities excellent and as I said the family who run the place are some of the most wonderful people I have met. The only downside was that the bed was a little firm for me - but I do suffer from chronic pain and sleep in a nest of memory foam 😂 it still would not stop me from staying here again though 💜💜💜

I didn't care for the location because it was too far from the places I needed to go but that's on me. It wasn't easy to catch taxis and you had to walk to find them.

I never saw the manager. Because I don't live in Korea, I didn't have KaKao and couldn't call to message him. I called the other telephone number many times. but only got a busy signal. I arrived early, after a long flight, but couldn't check in until several hours later. When I returned to check in, my key, with my name attached was on the front desk. Likewise, when I left, I put my key in a basket that anyone one could access. I did see a cleaning lady a couple times when I left.

The bathroom/shower room was literally smaller than the toilet on my plane when I flew to Seoul. The toilet seat was poorly attached and I had to adjust it when I used it.

The WiFi was excellent and the TV was fine but no English news channels like CNN or BBC.

Even though the location was poor for my needs, there were many restaurants and coffee shops in the area.

It's on an alley and a little difficult to find but that's more of a problem for the taxis. Some were reticent to go down the alley to the entrance.

I don't want to say it was a bad experience but I've stayed in better for less. To be fair, though, not in Seoul. I'd give it a C.

I find this property suitable for solo travelers who like myself enjoys the convenient location of this accommodation. Its close to everything you need. Delicious affordable food and fine dining it includes minutes from lotte shoping mall to markets ect. The staff is amazing and helpful if you need any help. Its always fully booked out so i like to book in advance.

You get what you pay for

Basically you get what you pay for. Incredibbly small room, not very sanitary bathroom. It is ok if your used to hostels or being a back packer or something but thats really what this is: a hostel experience. On the plus side, the location is amazing. Right in the middle of everything and a 5 min walk to almost every major attraction. Location amazing, everything else not so great.

The location is convenient with easy access to transit, food, and shopping. Restaurants in the neighbourhood open rather late at night. The owner of the guest house is super nice and helpful. I am pleased that the toilet is a bidet. The room is small as it is a budget place to stay. Sound proofing can an issue to some as I was able to hear my neighbours. If you are a light sleeper, do take note of this or bring earplugs.

Relatively close to the Sungnyemun Gate and a couple of blocks from the City Hall, the location of this place is perfect. I was quite afraid to get lost because of how korean addresses work but the hotel was easy to locate with little help from Maps. The place was clean the staff was amazing, the only thing I found strange was that the bed was really stiff but that's probably just my personal taste.

The hotel is very hard to find, tucked away in the back of an alley. But check in was super fast which was honestly the only plus. I didn't mind the small room as I only needed to stay for one night but man did it smell REALLY BAD! I had so much trouble sleeping because I had to keep holding my breath throughout the night. Had to keep the window open all night in the middle of winter to air out the room.

This is like a hostel, not a hotel. Reading other people’s reviews misled me, not that close to subway but it is close to bus stops Namdaemun market and about 10-15 mins walk to Lotte department store.

Walked in the lobby, it does have a smell so is the room too. There isn’t a shower area but just standing in the bathroom with the shower faucet, smell mildew. The room is like the size of parking one car, very small. Should have paid another $10-$20 USD more for something decent at least 3 stars. I did not expect to be a hostel-like hotel. This is a 2 star place. Window has no curtains so I had to use my airplane eye mask to sleep to keep dark. They don’t provide house slippers only the shower slippers, no daily free bottled drinking water, no daily housekeeping to make your bed. Not sure how clean the bedding is. I used my t-shirt on the pillow. Hotel was hard to find, should search for Hotel Irene in Google map, same owner I think? After getting off at Namdaemun market bus stop, walk on the street when you see Nice See U convenient store or Cafebeine cafe corner, go straight about 2 blocks and look for Hotel Irene and Star Guest Hotel sign in right hand side, corner is G25 convenient store. It has lots of restaurant to eat nearby and a 7-eleven. Taking the bus was more convenient for me than subway. Hop on hop the bus off versus subway you have to walk down 3 floors turn left turn right go straight so much walking underground and walk back upstairs to many exits.

I am an older traveler and I guess I need more hand holding. The add states that some one will be at the desk until 10:30 p.m. This is not true, however. The manager was not present past 9 p.m. after he helped me check in. I had questions later that I needed answered. So, I talked to a girl in the hall who helped me out. When I asked the manager where he was last night - he seemed to pretend that he did not understand me. So, instead of relaxing, I found the lack of desk support to be stressful.
The room was very clean. They also have a kitchen with a microwave and some sort of oven for cooking. These amenities are the pluses about the place.
Another negative is the bedding provided. Sheets and cover scratchy and thin. They need to invest in better bedding for comfort. A curtain over the hall window would block out the light better and add sleeping comfort.

Perfect for solo travelers

The guesthouse is very conveniently located, right next to Namdaemun and walking distance to Myeongdong. I was able to walk to Namsan Seoul tower from the guesthouse. It is also close to the attractions - the palace, insadong, Dongdaemun. There are many bus lines nearby as well. The closest subway station is Cityhall, just one station away from Seoul station - if you need to take the airport express. There is also an airport limo bus stop nearby. It is a perfect place for solo travelers, you have everything you need in your room - from tv, fridge, wifi, toilet and shower. There is also a shared kitchen and laundry room. You can cook/microwave your food if you need to. There are also many restaurants, cafes and convenient stores nearby. The host is also super nice and helpful. He suggested places to visit and was very hospitable. I unfortunately got sick during my trip and he made me pumpkin soup. I’d recommend this guesthouse and stay again if I travel alone to Seoul again :) You get the privacy for an affordable price.

Only a few minutes away from a station along lines 1 and 2, I really enjoyed this guest house. The staff was polite and by the end of my 8-day trip, we were on friendly terms. I also really enjoyed the fact I had a bit of storage space, so I was able to empty my suitcase, put it under my bed, and put everything in the closet. I also had a desk, a small TV and a fridge, so it was easy to have something ready for breakfast the next morning. Oh, and of course, everything was clean.

The bed was long enough for my 183cm and rather comfortable. Better than one of my previous experiences in Korea (which was still good). I had a private bathroom with a toilet (along with a bidet) and shower. They provided shower gel and shampoo that was of good quality.

I also appreciated the key card security. And the rates were quite low!

Home away home!

My husband and I recently stayed here after receiving my daughter's endless reviews about this place. First of all, I loved that this place was close to the public transit and food street. As soon as you get out there are restaurants everywhere and City Hall Subway Station is less than 3 minute walk away. Also, all of the shopping areas were close by (Dongdaemun, Namdaemun, Myeongdong and other shopping malls). Namdaemun and Myeongdong were walking distance so it was super convenient for us. Third, I was really impressed by the staff, Hoon, who was super helpful finding this place. He provided maps and explained how to get to the place in detail! So not like my daughter, we were able to go to the Star Guest House without being lost on the street. When we first got there, Hoon was very friendly and helpful with us settling down as quickly as possible so that we could get our rest right away. Fourth, having down comforters were also a plus as that's what we use at home. Not only that our room was really well insulated and sound proofed, we were able to have great sleep on the first night and the rest of our stay. Every morning, Hoon was super informative with how to get around Seoul so we could use our time efficiently. I also can't stop raving about this place to my friends and families after the visit. Looks like we will be staying here again when we next visit in the near future.

All I needed for a great price!

My experience at the Star Guest house was ideal. A very nice gentleman from Costa Rica who has spent several years in Seoul runs many of the day to day operations of the guest house.The accommodations are nice, very well kept and the location is perfect. Very central. The property also features a roof top deck which is awesome. You can enjoy great panoramic views of the city center. Everything about my stay was very pleasant and enjoyable. I will go back to the star guest house in about 6 months time to see some parts of Seoul I didn't see on my recent visit. My recent trip was over a month and I visited several countries.The Star Guest House was my favorite hotel.

The best one-room-tel in the heart of Seoul

What an amazing gem in the heart of Seoul's fashion district (Dongdaemun, Namdaemun & Myeongdong)! I found this place via Expedia and honestly didn't expect much. However, the staff, rooms, amenities, kitchen, beds, cleanliness, location, distant to public transportation, and many more, I would rate more than excellent. You wouldn't be disappointed after staying here how convenient this one-room-tel is. I felt as though I was staying at home. The little attention you get from the staff made it really worthwhile staying here too. I recommended this place so much that my parents who will be travelling Seoul next week decided to stay here too. I know for sure they will love this place, staffs and everything else this place offers. I don't know when I will be travelling Seoul again in the future, but I know where I would like to stay next time when I am there, Star Guest One-Room-Tel!

Nice place very near to convinience store and restaurants, also to shopping areas like Nandaemun and Myeongdong. Accessible to bus and subway station. However, I was disappointed on my last day. My niece and I checked out before 11 am and made a request if we could leave our baggage till 2 pm cause or flight is at 8pm. The staff accomodated my request but with a fee, so fine with me. My niece and I headed out to check out some places still in Seoul and made sure we come back at 2 pm. As soon as we arriived at the guesthouse we asked if we could use the toilet for personal reason and the staff said no, sorry . Oh my just a simple request made me upset, so We got our stuff and left.

For the cost, it was really not bad. Friendly staff. Kinda small but how much time are you gonna spend there? The tv works. The sitting toilet works. The shower sink combo works. Only complaint is really that the sheets on the bed were scratchy. Oh yes, the air conditioning is great.

It was good, just kind of hard to find the hotel according to the map. But once you found it, it was easy to get around. Very good location in proportion to Sungnyemun Gate and City Hall and Seoul Stations stops, as well as the local market places. All accessories provided, as well as shared kitchen, coffee and tea and water. Very cozy but nice.

Very spacious rooms and really clean. Pleasantly surprised given the oldness of the historic neighborhood. Bathroom was also surprisingly big. It was almost like your own private residence for the night. The only complint is that the unit had no ondol floor heating or air heating - so the room itself as a bit cold. But the bed had a heating pad which compensated. Other than that, one of the best cheap accommodations I've had in Seoul.

I booked for 4 days for a single bedroom. Bed frame was a bit noisy when you move. The place is quiet and clean, you wont even notice other people staying. The room is good with the price. I have stayed there for three nights for the business trip and have no problems with my stay. Very convenient to the downtown area. It's a bit small room and the bed size is smaller than the twin size but I think it is acceptable.

The staffs are fine but I would encourage a more friendly environment. It seems like this is a family run business. Although things are fine, you do not feel that comfortable and relaxed. I have stayed in several guesthouse and hostels and the staffs here are not comparable to other places. I guess the service mind, smile, and more talkative and friendly staffs will make it a better, more comfortable stay.

Overall the place was clean and the staff was very helpful on where to go for food and shopping. Room was cozy and comfortable but small and limited space. Continental breakfast should be improved. Add some eggs if you can. It is well taken care of and location of hotel is near some nigh markets and of course walking is required. Keep it up. And do better for the safety of your floor. Security is essential too.

To everybody who are willing to stay in this hotel, I will highly recommend you guys to stay here anytime. There are some good reasons. First, the front desk manager is very intelligent and kind as a trip advisor. I think he is not Korean but he can speah English, Korean and also other languages. Whatever it might be, he will kindly tell you things such as directions and touristic attractions because he has lived in Korea for many years.
Second the room is not bad, and comfortable. Third, the location of the hotel is excellent. It's in central Seoul so it's the easiest way to travel. If you stay here you won't go wrong.

Terrible customer service

Hotel page on expedia clearly stated that 24-hour check-in was available. As I knew that my plane was landing late (after 11PM), 24-hour reception/check-in ability was important to me and was one requirement I had when looking for a room for my trip. Only AFTER I booked did the fine print come out, I have to arrange for after-hours check-in at least one day in advance. Ok, I have no problem with that. So I called the hotel, first a nice woman answered who couldn't speak much English, but she gave me a different phone number to call her \"manager\" who could speak English and help me out. I called that number and told him my situation, and all I got was \"NO!\" and the call disconnected (I am certain he hung up on me, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt). Moments later I received a notice of a message from the hotel via Expedia, and it contained a very rude message that 24-hour check-in is not a thing there, and late check-in would require a fee. I inquired how much, he said (and I quote): \"then I have to stay here overnight. Can you pay for me? my working time ends at 00:00.\"

Anyway, I had to make other arrangements for my first night in Seoul. Avoid this place at all costs, not worth it at all. By the way, I have a record of the email exchange with the staff so there's proof of their terrible service should it be requested.

This is a guesthouse run by a mother and son. The breakfast is just juice that they put out in the morning and bread and jam. Nothing warm. You can make your own tea but no coffee anywhere to be seen. You have to wash your own dishes after. They give 2 tiny towels, that do not look very clean. They do not clean the room daily. You get what you pay for.

Horrible Experience - Poor Customer Service

Hotel staff was not co-operative at all. Did not allow me to check in even at 1:45 PM, made me wait 2 hours and allowed me to check-in exactly at 2:00 PM. Breakfast is horrible (Bread/Jam and Juice). You are forced to remove your footwear at the reception. The room is too small, no place to move at all.

Right in the heart of the city. Amazing location.

We had a great time staying there, and it is a walkable distance from tons of amazing local features (museums, parks, markets, etc.). The only problem we had is that there is not staff on-hand 24/7, so when I locked myself out of my room the last night, there was no one there to help me get in. There is a phone at the front desk with a number to call, but first the phone was unplugged, and after we plugged it in, no one answered.

The tiny rooms are better than the more expensive

I've stayed here before and thought I'd spring an extra $10 to get a slightly larger room. I stayed in the shoebox room the first time and it was great. The larger rooms seem to have thinner walls, though, and I could hear everything going on in the rooms next to me, up to and including farts. I highly recommend the very small rooms, but don't recommend the larger single rooms for this reason. Everything else was great, as usual: Location, cleanliness, comfortable bed (for Korea), A/C worked like a charm. The staff is friendly but reserved, and I think it's owned/run by a family.

Great location and nice no-frills accomodation

Hotel The hotel is on the fifth floor of a building tucked into a small side alley (The blue line exit 7 from City Hall Station is about two minutes from the hotel). I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a free washer and dryer available as well as a kitchen to use. I think my reservation included some type of breakfast but I never saw it or went looking for it during my stay here. The guy working at the front counter was pleasant, spoke English, and was helpful whenever I had questions. The check-in process took all of thirty seconds as well. Room I would recommend getting a room that has a window facing outward. Ventilation is the only negative of staying here as I kept the tiny little fans running in my room constantly to keep fresh air circulating. It wasn't a dealbreaker or anything but something to keep in mind if you are sensitive to this kind of thing. The stay here was pleasant and you are well situated to go exploring on foot from this location. Location Great spot for touristy activities. You are within 5-10mins walking distance to Meyongdong, Namdaemun market, city hall, and Deoksugung palace. You also are right next to City Hall Station which gives you access to line 1 and line 2 of the subway system making it really easy to get to other areas.

Disappointed

I had some expectation of the place for having 3 stars but sorry to say, it deserves a drop of a star. It was way too crammy, you can't even open the luggage on the floor. I guess you get what you pay for but it's not overall satisfactory for the money & I feel the reviews of other users were quite over-inflated. Had it received 2 stars for what it fairly should've gotton, I wouldn't even have given it a chance.

Perfect!

The staff was great, nice location next to Myeongdong, and I enjoyed the cleanliness of my hotel. Although, you must request someone to clean your room if you stay longer than 2 days. Otherwise, you can clean it yourself.

Great place very accesible

Stayed there for 4 days. The place is a bit hard to find if youre directionally challenge but the area is near the convenience store, restaurant, bus stops and subway station which is a really plus. Also only walking distance to Namdaemun Market and a bit of a walk to Myeongdong. I took double room for 2 person but im only alone so i have enough space but I think if 2 people will stay there its a bit cramp. I love love the bed its really comfy. Bathroom have hot and cold which is really great cause i went there during fall and its beggining to get really cold. I think they also have floor heating which i love too. The staff knows conversational english but not that much and they are very accomodating. So thats it. If you will ask if i will stay here definitely!!!

Best location to stay in Seoul!

I really like this place since it is located in City Hall and close to most of the popular tourist places in Seoul and hotel area has many has food restaurants with a min walking and 5 mins walking to gate 7 of City Hall subway station. Wish they have someone to clean my room during my 2 weeks stay in hotel since my floor was dirty and trash bin was full. Best thing is price is right and affordable for travelers to stay for their vacation in Seoul and G25 is at cornor of hotel so u can buy food at anytime of day. No one came to clean my room at all so I try to keep it clean for myself. Room was clean but has no toilet papers so I have to ask for it and near when I arrived and desk Korean guy was very nice and helpful. Bathroom shower is too high and very close to toilet so it was difficult to shower in tight(8 inches)enclosed place from sink to toilet area and most of shower water spray on top of toilet seat area Instead of bather. Kitchen pots and pan is old and scratched up a lot, so hotel need to buy a new set for travelers who want to cook food in hotel. Overall, hotel should be rated as a 4 star BC of it's ideal location, affordable pricing.

Clean and Modern Hotel

It is in a central area, near Seoul station, with namdaemun market and Lotte Mart in Seoul Station in its neighborhood for food and grocery. At first I was scared that it was down an alley way; but the area is lively late at night, with many well-lit restaurants opening late into the night. I would have stayed longer had I known about the businesses nearby. The hotel room was clean, albeit small. It's very modern and offers a shared kitchen, offering rice and water for making coffee ( there was a coffee maker) or tea. It was hard to find at first: but look for its vertical sign on an upper floor, along the side of the building. I think there were two other hotels in the building, sharing the same sign as well. I'd recommend it for those traveling alone.

The Room was smaller than I expected but for the price I paid, it was okay. One small window that is located on the Hallway side of the wall doesn't allow for privacy. Full kitchen, roof access was a major plus. Everything is new and clean. Overall a good place to stay if your looking to just sleep and not spend too much time in your room.

Good for the price.

Although the room is small, it is enough for sleeping and washing. I just stay for sleeping and it is good enough. Good place to access to Namdaemun market, Chunggyechun park, Gwanwhamun, Myoungdong and Insadong. I like the location.
