The property is beautiful, compact. Food is very good, the buffet has a wide selection of choices. Nice that you can walk forever on the beach in either direction. Found our room on the 4th floor on the inside area very noisy at night with the shows on. Would choose an outside room if we returned

Everything was wonderful up until the very last day. My husband and I got stuck there due to the cartel and military going at it. The hotel was kind enough to let us stay until we were able to leave and for that I’m grateful.

Full transparency - we were there when the cartel violence was happening so not all their fault because they were at 50% capacity. The problem was they did nothing extra for the people that were there during that time. All restaurants were closed so nothing but the same buffet food every day. Most of the staff seemed upset they were there which I understand because they couldn’t go home. All excursions cancelled. I get there are bigger problems happening and I hope all the staff’s families are ok but that doesn’t take away the fact we traveled a long way and spent a lot of money to be there. Not even close to the vacation we were hoping for to celebrate my 50th. Bright spots were Julien serving at the buffet and Jose (Superman) serving drinks on the beach. I hope they do the right thing and offer some refunds or vouchers to those of us that were there during that time. Not the experience or service level that was advertised and that we paid for.

The mattress was terrible!! Needs to be replaced, room was clean, food in the buffet and some of the restaurants was good. We couldn’t get into the steakhouse. But the resort on a whole was way too crowded!! Hard to get lounge charis by the pool, if u did, there were people all around you. The beach was nice, but no umbrellas available unless you paid for them

The resort did not have my room available and put us in a smaller room. They told us they would give us a partial refund/discount and that I would get credited thru Expedia. After arriving back home I found out that was a lie and they wont respond now. We will never go back to a RIU resort.

Overall it was good. However, I am surprised that this is a 5 star hotel. It’s a good 4 star hotel with 4 star amenities and quality (bathroom amenities, towel quality, beach service, bedding, etc.). The staff were great, polite, helpful, courteous. Food was average. Bring ear plugs if you want to sleep in in the mornings.

I cannot give it 5 stars though because on the last night I got food poisoning and threw up over 12x throughout the night and thought I was dying. This was my first stay at a Riu. Upon arrival, received an immediate warm welcome from staff, the area of entrance itself is very classy, large, and clean! The room was spectacular, clean, very spacious, comfortable bed, super shower in a large bedroom. I look forward to booking another Riu for any future travels abroad.

The only thing about the resort I did not like was the taxi service. Extremely overpriced than a regular cab you can catch at the curb. The taxi service works directly for the resort. After figuring that out we just went outside to catch a cab.

The Riu Palace Pacifico is a very well-run, clean, and attractive resort with consistently attentive and friendly staff. Service throughout the property is excellent. While tipping isn’t required, it is clearly appreciated, and having small Mexican bills on hand is helpful. You don’t need to tip everyone every day, but staff genuinely notice and appreciate it.

The resort is fairly large, so guests with mobility concerns should be aware that there can be a fair amount of walking. The food is generally quite good for an all-inclusive, with some meals standing out as very good. Guests who enjoy dining off-property will also find good options in nearby Bucerías.

Many people choose this resort for its comfort, safety, and ease, and English is spoken everywhere. Overall, it’s best thought of as a relaxed, well-organized “floating resort” — comfortable, predictable, and very easy to enjoy.

Unfortunately, my experience at this resort was very disappointing. One ongoing issue was the condition of the shower towels — they were worn out and had visible stains, which is unacceptable and made the room feel unhygienic.

The resort was also extremely crowded, which negatively impacted the overall experience. This stay was especially important to us because it was our anniversary. At check-in, I clearly mentioned this to the front desk, but no one asked for the date or made any effort to assist with any preparation or even simple room decoration.

On the night of our anniversary (01/22/2026), we attempted to have dinner at the steakhouse. We had already coordinated with a host earlier and were told to come at 8:00 PM. However, when we arrived, a different host told us they were full and not accepting any new guests. I explained that it was our anniversary, but she showed no concern, immediately rejected us, and did not attempt to help us find another restaurant.

What makes this worse is that the same host treated us the same way previously at the Krystal restaurant on 01/17/2025, right after we had checked in. Her behavior was unprofessional on both occasions. On our anniversary night, her reaction was so dismissive that it caused my wife to cry.

This experience left a lasting negative impression. Because of the lack of care, professionalism, and basic hospitality, I will not recommend this resort — or any RIU resort — to friends or family.

This is a wonderful beachfront property with three pools, great food and top shelf drinks. The staff were all very attentive to whatever we needed and they had planned entertainment every evening. Unfortunately the Riu parties are only on Fridays (at the adjacent Riu Jalisco hotel) so we missed out on that one. Knocked off one star because the resort credit advertised on Expedia is very misleading. It's not a $500 discount off a massage or whatever, instead it's a set of coupons that are really quite useless (like the $300 discount in case you decide to have a spontaneous wedding during your stay!). Also worth nothing that this property tends to lean to an older crowd. If you're in your 20s and 30s you might want to find somewhere a little more lively.

Food was underwhelming as a whole. Steak house is a nightmare to try and eat at. You have to wait in line for an hour before the steak house opens to try and get an seat. All of the other restaurants are a 5/10. You can only drink beer and wine at restaurants they won’t give you a different drink. Honestly, the food was actually terrible.

If you try and get a seat at the pool in the morning you should plan to get out there at 6am to “save” your section of pool chairs.

Room service was sub par. No real food for the room service. You can get a sandwich and chips and fruit and that’s really about it.

Best food they had was the taco bar for lunch by the pool. Drinks were decent.

Service at the pool was great. All of the staff were very nice. Great location on the beach. Rooms were clean and tidy.

Bed mattress was absolutely the worse we have ever slept on. Extremely soft mattress to the point you sink in it completely
We were here with our 6 friends and try their bed and their mattresses was also extremely soft and they also complained to the resort management
We will not return to this resort due to poor quality of their bed mattresses.
It is a shame because everything else was great.
BTW, mixed drinks were not all that good either.

Overall great place! Not at all a party place. If you’re looking for a nice vacation that’s 55+ than this is for you!! My husband and are I not even 30 yet and felt alittle out of place. We really enjoyed the relaxing pool! Staff was excellent on service and/or whatever we needed. By far the best resort food we’ve had! This resort offers multiple restaurants and food options throughout of the day until evening, including room service! We loved the variety! This resort does offer an elite club upgrade (think VIP). From what I heard and saw from others it didn’t seem to be worth. They do have their own beach area, access to their own bar/coffee shop, and restaurant. They are allowed to make reservations for restaurants while other members are not! Overall a great place to stay! Would recommend if you’re looking for a quiet relaxing trip with no kids!

Food & Restaurants
- The food was just okay. I expected more variety and better taste.
- Buffet service depends on the waiter — some are very nice, others less so.
- The Steakhouse is hard to get into, with long lines, and unfortunately the food wasn’t worth the wait.
- The Italian restaurant was probably the best dining option.
- Drinks were good.
- The piano player in the lobby sings and plays very well — a really nice touch in the evenings.
Entertainment
- The shows were just average.
Beach
- We were lucky to have calm water and could swim.
- Right after the hotel’s beach chairs, there’s a sign that says “RIU Hotel Property Limit.” Beyond that sign, the public area is occupied by horses and their owners. The smell of horse urine near the water is overwhelming, especially if you want to be closer to the water and makes it hard to enjoy the shoreline.
- On the positive side, you can rent kayaks and catamarans, which is great.
Shops & Services
- The small shop on-site is convenient, but be careful: we bought a ball for $15 and were charged twice, with the second charge being $101. I’d recommend paying in cash.
- The beach massage service was good and reasonably priced.
Transportation: you walk to the reception, and they always have cars ready and waiting.
no need to book anything online in advance if you’re going from hotel somewhere including airport.

We had a very good experience in this hotel. The only reason for lower rating was the experience checking out. Our only luggage was loaded on a wrong taxi. Luckily one of us was outside to notice the mistake at the last moment. We managed to get the luggage out but the staff was rude, trying to blame us for their omission. Nobody apologized and even the manager on duty Sandra did nothing. It was very stressful, unpleasant end of our vacation. Be careful leaving your luggage at the concierge before departure.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary in November 2025. Checkin was painless. The room was very comfortable. We enjoyed the three pools onsite. The drinks were delicious, and the food was really good. We are vegeterian, and found many options to choose from everyday. The beach was clean and beautiful, just be aware on sea serpents. Pay attention to the flags posted by the beach.
The great thing is this was adults only, and the smoking areas are away from guests, so this was really enjoyable. There is entertainment by the pool, but if you want peace and quiet I suggest the pool with loungers. There were foam parties which looked fun, they had games you could play for a price. Overall it was a great relaxing trip, and we would return. Highly recommended.
