The staff is perfect. We did have a few hiccups in the Italian restaurant. We got charged extra for a soiled blanket. Cold showers everyday and no ac for the first 2 days. The staff again was amazing during the unrest in Puerto Vallarta. They worked double shifts and couldn't get home to their families. They then worked again the next day.

Very unaccommodating resort. We had two rooms with 4 adult kids (21, 20, 19, 19) and arrived at 9 am (Westjet) in the morning and they made us feel very unwelcome. They said we couldn’t get our all-inclusive wrist bands until noon which we understood but they actually chased all 6 of us off their property when we were down at the beach/pool which the front desk said was ok to be at as long as we didn’t drink or eat until we had our arm bands.

When we went to go home, our flight was at 9 pm (Westjet) so we were getting picked up at at 7 pm by the prearranged shuttle… our flight then got delayed to leave at 2am. Checkout is at noon so our options were to pay 515 peso until 5 pm or 1490 peso until 6:30 pm. No other options… we were prepared to pay extra but it wasn’t even a possibility.

One of our rooms toilets on fourth floor had to be plunged every day to let it flush. Resort is very tired.

Room key cards are a pain. Pretty well had to have it reprogrammed every day. Hit & miss whether you had hot water or not. Face cloths are like gold there I think. Had to ask for them every day. Staff is great, but no doubt about it some people are treated better than others. Guess it depends on how much you tip.

Room was not the room we were suppose to get. We had booked King room.with balcony, we got Queen room with balcony staring at brick wall no view. No air conditioning for 3 days, all clothes, sheets, towels were wet. Nothing would dry after that, couldnt sleep. Always told 2 hours it would be fixed. Front staff ignored you if you complained. Had to beg for bottled water, only 2 per room per day. Serving staff were wonderful only reason we enjoyed ourselves. Would never recommend

Very clean, our ocean front suite was a great size. The staff were incredible. The food was good, even our 6 year old was able to find favorites at each meal. Older resort needing a refresh yes, but it was a fabulous stay and we would certainlynrecommend thisbresort for families. The kids clud was great. Our kido loved it and Africa, the lady who ran it was amazing.

hotel lacked consistency in its service, food and premises. Great location and plenty of lounge chairs/palapas/Balinese beds. Some staff seemed to enjoy their work, others not so much. Food was hit and miss- some meals good, others were overcooked and hardened/eggshells in scambled eggs, was not served drinks at two suppers. Snack bar food was cold and overdone midaft. Birds having a feast with meal plates not collected promptly. Was our second and probably last time there when compared to other choices.

Rooms were great for the price. It is a small resort which many Mexicans also attend so the staff dont all speak English very well which can be diffucult at times. The restaurants arent open all the time so you have to plan. Food isnt great but it was ok. The pools were amazing for kids especially young ones. For a cheap all inclusive I would highly recommend it. If you want a luxury stay, not the place for you.

Hotel is very dated, could use improvements to most of the facilities (other than the kids pools which were great), but it was tolerable for our families, each with kids under 6. Little noisy now due to construction on one side. Breakfast is good, but need more kid-friendly food options the rest of the day. Big props for Rafael, the manager who was very helpful & accomodating when needed, and Ernesto (best bartender/waiter) onsite!

Clean and well kept property. Food was sub par and tge a la carte restaurant options were a joke and thats being nice. Great pool and beach access. Kids club did not exist even after strong promotuon of this option on the hotel website. Bar options were poor and many of the bartending staff were trained to actually serve drinks. Would not stay again.

We had a good overall stay at this hotel. The staff was truly wonderful—friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist, which made a big difference in our experience. Staff was rude, they over charge for everything. Even to inflate a floaty. It is impossible to get dinner reservations at any restaurants. The only one available is their buffet but it’s not worth it. All there is to eat is a bunch of salads and veggies. Food has no flavor at all. Morning breakfast was alright since it’s really hard to mess up breakfast. Over all experience I would never go again.

The food was terrible, anything that was supposed to be hot was usually cold. You couldn’t go eat whenever since the buffet was only open certain hours. The bars werent even open at the same time. There was no staff and no service around the pool. Activities at the kids club didn’t exist. There was rarely even an employee at the kids club. The à la carte was terrible, food was cold. They moved the location of the à la carte and didn’t tell anyone, we had to wonder around looking for it. When we checked out, they wanted to charge another $400+ pesos just to sit by the pool until we had to leave for the airport. The rooms were old and my toilet barely flushed. I had to add water to the back of the toilet bowl to flush. I booked 2 queen beds and only got one king. There is no evening life, everything stops at 9 pm and the disco at 11 was terrible. I would never stay here again.

The property is very outdated. The ac unit was really loud. The rooms are outdated and were not very clean. The whole building had a smell. I went during rainy season so prepare for water drips everywhere. The food was not great at the buffet. The fruit was only thing I enjoyed at the buffet. I will say the reserved restaurants was better. The pools looked dirty. I don’t think they were cleaned.

Always something for the kids to do. Beach out back was really nice. Rooms are spacey but a bit outdated, especially in comparison to the other adjacent properties. Wouldn’t mind staying here again. Was able to save a few dollars by staying at this property. Staff were always helpful and nice. Loved the surrounding areas of Nuevo Vallarta, etc. All the food eaten at this resort was indeed delicious. Would recommend this resort for others as well!

The pros: quiet property that is not overly crowded.

Cons: we never had hot water while we were here and the pressure in the showers is quite low. The water was like warm, but never hot. The amenities are basic and the “Italian” restaurant was closed while we were there.

The staff are amazing! Everyone was very helpful, positive and energetic. Smokers were bad at leaving their butts on the beach.
Expedia was terrible about not providing ground transport as part of the travel package.
I won’t book a package with them again.

There is no effort to keep birds out of eating areas resulting in birds pecking at deserts and breads being served and customers being pooped on while dining!

The property is very well kept but certainly quite dated. The staff members were all excellent and very helpful. The food was okay but not exceptional by any means although there were lots of choices you could make. The buffet was definitely better than either of the two speciality restaurants. The entertainment was very good however the disco music at night was extremely loud and went very late. The pool and loungers around the pool were a stand out for such a small hotel. Although not perfect I would choose to stay there again.

The property is older but the common areas are very nice and being well maintained. The rooms are in bad need of remodeling. Old, old furniture. We were there two weeks and suffered with a room that was next to the laundry (very noisy). One chair, not even a table. No sleep for two weeks. The staff was great. Food was good. Friends and neigbours.. make a better choice than this resort. The food is nearly inedible. There are hotdogs in the majority of the dishes on the buffet. Charro beans? Has hotdogs. Mexican style beef? Hotdogs. Chorizo sausage? Hotdogs with chorizo seasoning. One dish on the buffet during 'Italian' night was just.. hot dogs. Pepperoni pizza? The pepperoni was hot dogs. Protein in the pasta salads? Buddy.. you're not going to believe this - also hot dogs.

Aside from the abysmal food, there was also the hellscape that was the showers. If you're a daredevil that loves to go from lava to a cold plunge then this is the place for you. If however you prefer just a nice shower that with temperatures that won't either freeze you or boil you alive, brother this ain't the place you want to be.

It's also worth noting that our room keys stopped working - on average - three times a day. Which is especially inconvenient in the event you are having abdominal distress from the above-mentioned menu items.

As for location, the beach is beautiful. However, the resort next door is pretty much an all-day rave. At night, our windows were rattling with early 90s Sandstorm-esque music which haunts my dreams to this day.

We met many people who say they've been coming to this resort for years and my only question is.. have you ever tried anywhere else?

The staff nearly without exception are lovely and kind and I can only say, they deserve better than this place.

Our stay here was okay! Pool area is fun for kids. There is a cute little slide area. Literally a one minute walk to the beach, which is awesome. The beach is very nice! The activities by the pool were ok, they wouldn’t follow what was on the board so the kids would get excited and then it wouldn’t happen. Honestly they didn’t do much for activities at all. There is no swim up bar but that’s okay. The drinks were delicious but the bartenders weren’t overly friendly! They were fast though. The food was pretty bad. There was not a lot of flavour in anything. Chicken was always overdone. The kids wouldn’t eat much but even the chicken nuggets were pretty awful. The drinks were great and the service in the buffet was very quick. The food at the snack bar was truly the worst.. not only that, there is bird poop everywhere.. all over the chairs and tables and floors, it was gross. We didn’t eat there often. Disappointed in the food overall. The night shows were a little disappointing. We were told there were shows every night at 9pm which is not true. Mostly it was bingo or karaoke and there wasn’t much of a turn out for those. We did see a fire show (that was great) and a “circus” show which was fun too. The cleaning staff was wonderful. Always had a clean room and a cute decoration on the bed. The room was not anything fancy. We found a really good deal for this hotel so we couldn’t pass it up, but we probably wouldn’t stay here again.

This was our second time at samba. We were here in 2009 for my brother's wedding. This trip was more focused on the kids. Although this property is older, it is still wonderful, and I can't say enough about the staff! Salvador, who was always there at breakfast was very friendly and full of fun ...Luis the bartender always had a smile on his face and made my drinks just the way I like them! The breakfast buffet was by far my favorite. Always lots to choose from and always very very good. I don't know why people complain about the food repeating at resorts, of course some of it's going to repeat but if it's good food who cares? I will go back here again as I enjoy the atmosphere and how friendly everybody is.

This was our 3rd visit to Samba. It’s the food and the staff that are amazing. But she is becoming a very tired girl. Upgrades are needed in the rooms and main areas. We had a couple of day that hot showers were not part of that days plan.
The pool is awesome for families. And the beach is wonderful.
We love that the Samba is small. It makes the service so special. Carlos took care of us most of the week in the buffet and by the pool. Such a wonderful guy! The food is great and the trays in the buffet were always changed out quickly when empty.
Shout out to Bernando who helped us with dinner reservations and arranging a late check out for our daughter and family.

This was our first time staying in Mexico and we chose the Samba based on friends who have stayed there before (they also joined us). The service is above average in my opinion, with there being some stand outs we interacted with - Gilberto, Salvador, Antonio & Iori making it just that much more fun and entertaining, so thank you to them!! The food was really great and the bbq night in the buffet was my fav. The beach and pool areas were not crowded at all this time of year in early Dec...which was a plus. There was a bit of surf/wave action, but once you got just past it, most people would be fine. We got to see some dolphins and whales from the beach out front! The rooms could use some updates for sure, but the bed was comfortable and it was clean. Our room had some issues with water temperature in the shower, but we didn't address it (would really be my only complaint). Overall, I would def recommend the Samba for anyone travelling to Nuevo Vallarta who is looking for a budget friendly and service oriented stay...we'll be back!

We have been going to the Samba for over twenty years and as always the staff was excellent and the food is sometimes not so great our biggest problem is the management at the front desk there is a lot of turn over and they never remember us even though we go with a large group the rest of the staff remember us and we are friends with them but the front desk is always disappointing. But here’s a salute to some special staff Salvador, Carlos, Genaro, Juan, Norma, Yadira, Ernesto you all do a great job!!!

A group of us have been coming here for 22 years and we love it.The hotel is a smaller older hotel.It is showing its age but it is clean and looked after.The staff are excellent friendly and helpful.They are the main reason we keep returning.

There are two a la carte restaurants and the main buffet.I have always found something good to eat.

We look forward to returning next year.

Only one snack bar in between meal times and the snacks were a 3/10
Not much of activity / entertainment during the day expect the nightly show at 9 pm for 45 minutes or so.
The water aerobics they had during the day was mostly in the local language so it was hard for us to understand or enjoy it
At the end of the stay , the bell boy tried to hustle us but trying to triple the price of the taxi fare to the airport . We stood our ground for about 15 mins and we managed to get our own taxi for the price it’s supposed to be

Excelent value for the price. Beautiful beach setup with chairs, beds and umbrellas. Very nice staff, good food, family oriented. Hotel is a bit outdated but kept very clean. Everyone tries to be helpful even that most of the staff dont speak English. I enjoyed beeing surrounded by the Mexicen families with very well behaved kids. Outside of the hotel is kept neet and tidy around the pool.
I was just a bit disapointed by the end. We needed late checkout and I was ready to pay 1000 mx pesos what they asked for, but turned out that would be per person. So paying 300CAD to stay 2 to 3 hours more didn’t realy make sense.

I was not happy with my stay! I tried to cancel my reservations and was told No they would not accept or refund my money but when I got there to check in they put me in a room with 1 king I reserved a room with 2 queens and when I called to tell them they said the couch folds out they didnt have any other rooms available ?!?! They said they would come make the couch up and never showed I had to call them 4 hours later and wait another hour, she came in half made the bed said its fine and walked out?! THE COUCH BED was like sleeping on the floor it was SO uncomfortable :( 2nd they are very limited on places / options for food! You have to eat on their time or dont eat and the \"All inclusive\" doesnt include anything in your room they charge you ha ha ha ha Will never return

The hotel was clean but I paid a lot of money for a suit and my guest ended up sleeping on the floor since the sofa bed was not comfortable. The mattress was to thin so it made it uncomfortable. The staff was great there were a couple of members who went above and beyond and exceded my expectations, Norma in charge of the bathrooms was great. Beatriz and Salvador in the buffet were great. Both Jose’s at the Mexican restaurant were great and last but not least pinky at the buffet was great. My kids and I had a great time

They tried to give me a double bed room when I paid for a King room and the AC leaked the third day, phone kept ringing in the room. I’d recommend hiring a translator.

The property looked as if it was once well kept but that is not the case anymore. The pictures on the website are deceiving and make the pool amd kids park look bigger than they actually are.

The first meal(dinner) was clearly the food recycled from lunch. This was confirmed when many of the same dishes were served at breakfast the next morning. As a result of this my wofe got food poisoning and was ill for two days.

When I went to get water for her I was informed that bottles of water were not included with the \"all-inclusive\" and I was forced to pay for water for my sick wife.

We decided to move to a better resort after less than 24 hours. At no point in dealing with the staff was I asked why we were leaving or offered anything resembling an apology.

The resort refused any sort of refund despite the fact that we were there for less than 24 hours of a seven night stay.

Needless to say do not go to this resort. It is over priced for the terrible quality.

Older property, staff was decent. Very musty on arrival, but turned on A/C and got a bit better. Room very dated and taps all leaked - some things clearly not cleaned between guests. Lights in room left much to be desired. No balcony. Beds were comfortable. Overall it was ok, no great value for the $$ paid to stay but location was good and the grounds are beautiful. Pools good. Worked for what we needed. Def a 2 maybe 2.5 star.

Our problems began when we arrived at the front desk and learned that our Expedia reservation was not acceptable. The front desk staff were unhelpful and indifferent. Only when we called for the manager did anything get resolved. We found the room and the pool area to be good. The staff were excellent and friendly. The buffet however was bland overheated and overcooked. On one occasion at the food station near the pool our hamburger was raw and had to be returned. The second attempt was also undercooked. Both of us got sick during our stay while taking all precautions. It's hard to determine the cause. The activities at the pool were good and the evening entertainment was okay. Overall we would not recommend the Samba.

The property is over 40 years old so gardens and greenery is well established and beautiful. There are many different types of birds and also many iguana's on the grounds which I think are really cool. We have used this resort for many years because it is small, the staff is awesome and it is a quiet family oriented option. we love it.

This hotel is fantastic for families with young kids. We have two kids ages 3 and 5 and the pool set up is perfect for kids of these ages (as well there are pools for older ages, I should mention). There is a shallow little kids pool and waterslide as well as a larger, slightly deeper pool and waterslide set up for the older kids.

The Kids Club was also excellent with fun crafts and activities for the kids to do.

Really, really nice grounds and although we only made it to one nighttime show, it was excellent and family friendly as well.

Great, quiet location in Nuevo Vallarta.

We had a great time! The staff were very nice and accommodating. Great access to the beach or lounge by the pool. They had plenty of dining options but we found the buffet to be the best! Salvador and Bruno at the bar were extra friendly and provided great service!

Better after a rough start

We started out a little rough due to the hotel not finding our reservation but nice that was straightened out (no thanks to the manager, David) we ended up having a lovely time. The service was great and the food was generally ok. I would recommend sticking with the buffet. The Italian restaurant food was sub-par, especially considering it required reservations. Overall, the entertainment and beautiful surroundings made this an experience I would recommend.
