This is a great place to stay! The staff was great. It's a great location. The whole place is very clean. The bathrooms are huge and it was very comfortable. It's very walkable and a Woolworths right across the street. Walking distance to the night market, day market and the pier for the boats to the Great Barrier Reef.

The building as a whole is older and we only got 1 key. But we didn't ask for a second. The building is well kept and very clean. The room has a fridge and an electric kettle.

I would highly recommend this hotel! It's a great value!

The type of place I would expect to find bed bugs and hidden cameras. Bedding and towels were clean but the rooms are extremely outdated. No outlets near the bed. Felt like I had to shower with flip flops because of all the mildew and stains in the shower. I saw the breakfast buffet (around $12pp), but chose to get breakfast elsewhere. You get what you pay for and next time I would spend a bit more to stay somewhere cleaner and more modern.

Here’s a polished, clear review you can post for your recent Cairns stay—firm but factual:
The only positive thing about this hotel is its location — close to everything.
Unfortunately, the negatives far outweigh that, making this the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.
• The shower had visible black mould along the sliding door tracks.
• The wardrobe door was completely stuck and unusable.
• The air conditioner would stop cooling after about two hours, freeze up, then leak water when turned off. The only solution offered was a towel to catch the dripping water.
• Housekeeping was extremely poor. After requesting room cleaning, only two beds were made. Rubbish bins were left full, and used towels were left on the floor. We complained and asked for proper cleaning, but when we returned later, only one additional bed was made nothing else was cleaned. The old towels and rubbish remained. Sadly, even on checkout day, the pile of used towels was still there. We had to dispose of our rubbish ourselves in the laundry area.
• The noise outside was constant and disturbing — drunk people yelling, fighting, and causing disturbances at night. It felt unsafe, especially with kids. On our last night, while having dinner downstairs at the Chilean Streetfood, four police officers and two city security staff arrested someone right outside the hotel entrance during our meal.
Yes, the hotel is cheap but it is absolutely not worth it. I would strongly recommend avoiding this hotel.

An old favourite where I and lots of Cooktown locals have been coming for years but that was mainly because of the price and for the free breakfast with boiled eggs. Not a great continental breakfast now but was quite cheap. The really good thing is the reception is open until about 2100 hrs. Other similar priced Cairns hotels close well before.
But really clean and had a comfy bed which is the main thing.

First time here, check in took a while as receptionist was on phone, would help if they let us know of the delay due to phone bookings etc. another lady checked me in ,which made the process even faster which I was happy about.

The location is good, close to everything and transports, very convenient.

The room was big but downfall was the aircon wasn't cold enough , the temp was already set and couldn't change it to make it abit colder due to the heat weather up here in the north tropics, luckily the fan was working it kinda made the stay abit breezy, curtains had to be closed all the time due to sunny through the window and then youl feel the heat come through it,.

Everything was good , location, the room but it was just the aircon that wasn't cold enough to help ease the heat temperature, the receptions air-condition is way more colder than the rooms.

* I've put the red tag to clean room whilst out, came back to find it not cleaned. I asked a worker about it and was told I needed to inform receptionist if I wanted it cleaned, so something to note down since I didn't know.

* It's worth to book the hotel car park, if I knew I would of booked it for the whole of my stay, the road carparks was a nightmare, especially when your room is far away from the elevator , and carpark ticket has to be checked and paid every hour. I booked carpark on my last night and it was worth it.

Overall hotel is good, just some little things that sometimes goes a missed.

You get what you pay for so I truly can’t complain. Only downsides were the room was a decent hike from the elevator and our room didn’t come with a blanket, the bed just had a sheet on it so we had to walk down to the lobby to request a blanket. I also requested extra towels on the first night of our stay and the woman at the desk told me they didn’t have any clean towels at all, which I found strange. Otherwise though, the room got the job done and we loved the location of the place. We were able to walk to everything and we also appreciated the brochures in the hotel lobby to assist us with planning excursions. All in all, I would say it’s definitely worth what you pay for!!

As a fnq local I have stayed here before but not for many years . The hotel is looking good now. The bed was comfortable and the room pristine but the aircon could have been colder as it was still warm in the middle of the day. What annoyed me though was there were no bath mats or teaspoons. Even a plastic one instead of a stick would have been good. But still good value for the location in the middle of town. I will stay there again.

Was not allowed to check in due to no physical photo ID (stolen wallet), had photo of ID on phone which was accepted at other hotels. No leniency showed by reception, had to find alternative accommodation at 9pm after long day of travel. Attempted to contact manager for refund without success.

This should be considered a 2 star motel or less. The staff at the front are not helpful. If you need reliable WiFi this is NOT the place to stay. The shower and shower curtain had mildew/mold. I saw a roach in my room and you can hear everyone out in the hallway. The hotel owners have done a poor job on renovating this motel. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. I couldn’t wait for my time to end at this hotel.

After checking-in we went to our room and when we opened the door, it was already occupied and full of rubbish. We informed the reception and they changed our room to one that was clean and empty. The room was okay but there were some issues. The shower head wasn’t screwed in properly so you had to hold the shower head to shower. The wall above the bed was covered in handprints. The aircon had an issue and was incredibly loud so we had to use the fan which was hanging from exposed wires. A very disappointing stay.

Location was great. Walking distance to the Esplanade only 10 minutes. Lots of cafes and restaurants around the area. Room is looking a bit tired. Sheets looked old and WIFI was bad as was television. One staff member was not pleasant to deal with but otherwise a good stay.

just painting the hotel and keep all old run down appliances does not cut it. Aircon was loud (defect) that you can’t run it at night.
Door between 2 rooms paper thin. Reception not welcoming. Arrive before 2am and ask if by chance the room is ready, answer “check in at 2” lockers around the corner 6$. Even in the evening looking at you 5m from the glass entry door waiting that you type the door code in instead open the door remotely. No hello or anything.
There motto “no fluff” hits it on the head
Not to mention no room service within a 3 night stay.

Didn’t like that we put the do not disturb sign up and when we came back in the room there was evidence that people had been in there (extra clean towns in the bathroom) when the dirty ones were not removed and husbands fault for leaving his packets of smokes on the table so two packets went missing. But other than that the place is fantastic and in a great location

The hotel is well located in the city center, but our experience was quite disappointing. During our 6-night stay, the room was never cleaned despite requesting it. The Wi-Fi advertised does not actually work, which also makes the smart TV useless. The bathroom, especially the shower, is in poor condition and needs serious improvement.

Great central location. The room price reflected the condition. Fan was hanging off the ceiling the aircon was hardly working and super noisy so didnt get much sleep. The place is very tired could do with renovations being done but its in a fantastic central location and cheap compared to other hotels so just depends on what you want for your stay. We were happy to be able to walk to everything.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hides, I could walk to everything within 5-10 mins, including the bus station, wharf, esplanade and night markets. The rooms are very spacious, bed was comfortable, and Woolworths is across the road! My room's big window was frosted, so couldn't see out. Only one small part of the window could be opened, so if this is a problem for you, ask first. Also the lovely pool was \"broken\" as the staff put it, they need to fix it ASAP. There were a few tiny ants in the bathroom, but all in all, it is fantastic value for money in a very convenient location.

This hotel was just what I needed after traveling abroad and staying in hostels. A private room to myself with a big bed, tv and nice shower. I was able to check in early which is lovely. It was stupid that they make you pay to store your luggage, because I just sat in the lobby with it to avoid that and cluttered up their front space. Close to restaurants and grocery store.

Plz read whole review. This good aspects. On arrival at 4.50pm shocked no staff at reception esp with about 25 people noisily, but happily milling around. (On booking I hadn't realised hotel also had backpackers section. this could haattract or appeal to or not to some) but did know they would actually take out $100 deposit. Lift to room was small & shabby...and often crowded ( beyond limit?) My room was small but otherwise inside looked pleasant just like photo. It was very clean n contained all things expected, mostly in new/ newish condition . Bathroom was clean + okay, but unfortunately couldn't fit kettle under the tap to fill it directly. Plumbing was very loud & ongoing noise for hrs. King bed, TV, air con & fans were v good. Fridge was ok, but small freezer was disappointing. Safety DEP box? The room was accessed by a real key - perhaps an inside latch/ lock would give some people the extra ' impression' of security esp when people came past often speaking/ walking loudly along the very long narrow hallway. While the room looked fine, the large window had no view...at all...covered in heavy frosted glass.While it couldn't be opened it did feel like being locked in (with nice big curtains. The lack oThis should be mentioned in listing & hotel website- especially if only some or all rooms were same. This would be the most disgustingingly dirty place we have ever stayed in.
The positives; Housekeeping had done the best with what they were given.
The shower had excellent pressure.
The negatives;
Curtains were stained and smelled putrid.
windows were absolutely filthy with 2 bird poo covered air-conditioning units at the open window and drug paraphernalia and pooh on the ledge beneath the window made a dreadful smell. The pidgeons were perched there.
The blanket supplied was disgusting, it was so old and stained.
No exhaust for shower steam.
Only one mug and one tiny cup.
pillows were so flat and old, had to ask for extra.
No sink plug ( why do places not supply them ?)
We will NEVER stay here again and strongly recommend fellow travelers look elsewhere until the owner cleans the place up.

This was a budget property and I think basically it was as expected for the price point. I really didn't like the lack of ventilation, but could live with it. The bed was a bit hard and pillows were really cheap and terrible. But on the good its a budget stay, the room was big and it was very clean, good size fridge and the aircon worked

The rooms were very dirty and did not look like they had been cleaned. There was hair throughout the bathrooms and the floors had not been cleaned. I did not feel safe staying in the hotel as there were people coming and going at all hours of the night and day. I ended up leaving after only staying 1 night and stayed elsewhere. I do not recommend this property to anyone.

I checked out 5 days ago and the 100 AUD you took out from my account as “block pre authotization garanteed” isn’t yet back in my account!!

To take the money out took 5 seconds!!! To refund it back?? How many days you need??

Why don’t you take just one dollar (like the hotel I am now in Sydney) and in case any liability to any damage you charge what is due??

I need this money and you haven’t refunded it to my account yet.

Parking costs extra and is a little tricky but otherwise the hotel was in a great location, had a great balcony to enjoy, and the rooms were nice. If I had it to do over I would not have gotten a rental car and just walked - the location allows for that.

Our experience were not so good, at midnight other rooms were in partys and we can't rest, the staff was not working at this time, nobody was there.
Never they cleaned our room, the have a policy about clean rooms only after 3 days staying there; we were 5 nights and they never did it.
One person of the staff in the morning wasn't very friendly. Bad look.
