Room was clean, quiet and good for a few days stay. Good things: washer, iron & ironing board, good sized fridge, dishes, a/c, separate bedroom. Bad: no elevator - had to carry our luggage up 3 flights, never saw desk staff, couldn't figure out how to get the dryer to start, no shampoo, small bars of soap, longer walk to places than we thought, TV had limited channels.

Staff were lovely, we liked that it was a family run business. The pool area is great to chill and relax. The photos don’t do this place justice, it’s so much nicer than the photos. Our apartment was spacious and it had everything you needed for a self catering stay.

My only downside was, the shower was broken on our first day and it never got fixed. We were unable to have a proper shower the entire time we were there. We were told maintenance would fix it, but they never did.

This is a great value apartment in a convenient location close to the esplanade. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and had everthing we needed - a well stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, air-con and a big comfortable bed. Free parking too - will definitely book again when we return to Cairns

Place was clean but was really stingy, with the price we paid, they wanted us to clean the place and take the rubbish out or the it would be a 55 dollar fee, plus had very little soap with no body wash, shampoo or conditioner. If the place was cheap per night it would make sense but for a little extra I saw you could go up the read to the Novotel. Would only recommend this place if you get a deal, if not there are plenty more nicer places to stay at for a cheaper rate

This is a budget friendly property with basic but adequate amenities including washer and dryer in the one bedroom apartment we stayed in. It’s quiet at night and we enjoyed the pool area in the afternoons to read and relax. It’s in a good location, close to the esplanade, buses, restaurants, aquarium etc and you can get to anywhere in Cairns central on foot from here.

Week stay in Cairns

Apartment itself was great, good location with a pool. Air conditioning worked and kept entire room cool.

Bathroom standard, did the job, only complaint was the bed was a bit uncomfortable as it was 2 twin beds pushed together, so middle wasnt great on the back.

In general though, room was fine, and would stay here again

Great location, walking distance to restaurants and esplanade. The rooms amenities were great. Having our own washing machine and dryer was very handy especially since we were in Cairns for a week long sporting event. Secure parking was an added bonus

Property was not what we booked it was awful the bedding (mattress and pillows were heavily stained our daughter stayed one night the bed they supplied for her was torn and heavily stained, she woke during the night with multiple bites on her arm and legsI reported this and the mattress was passed on to another guest. The bathroom tap dripped . The Lino flooring was lifting and everything else was past its use by. We were told not all rooms are nice like the one we actually booked and didn’t get and basically told bad luck . We had a chain smoker above us and smoke came in our room. We couldn’t get a refund so were stuck.

Pros: large unit with outdoor area. 2 TVs. All the necessary for cooking. Pool area is relaxing and beautiful. Lots of space to park. Staff is super friendly and helpful and their pets are the best! Easy walk to Lagoon area and minutes away from the Esplanade. Super quiet - didn’t hear any noise from outside, hallway, or other units.

Cons: Dated unit. AC wasn’t the best, so the room smelled damp. Staff office hours are hit or miss.

No staff available 24 hours. No change of bedding or towels like hotels. Very old building and there were open spaces on the wooden floor. For a week stay we then have to buy soap. No other stuff available like shower lotions shampoo, cream . They asked to use the laundry with payment. Probably this place is for monthly stays not for holidays for tourists.

The property is a nice place to stay for those who don't want to spend a fortune on accommodation. You are looking at a three block walk to the heart of the Esplanade. The appartment was good, and allows you to cook (as food on Esplanade is very pricey). I would like to see a little portable stove in the kitchen to allow you to bake things. The only frustrating thing about my stay was the television. It would suddenly lose picture after 2 or 3 hours! The pool is nice and deep, and the garden offers shade and privacy.

Also, didn’t really appreciate the strict rules about taking your own rubbish downstairs at the end of the stay. It’s fine that there was no cleaning during stay but couldn’t the person cleaning the room at the end of the stay put the rubbish out?
Overall I though the room was good value for money - except the bathroom was not just mouldy (the tile and shower floor and walls) but there was a strange “vacuum” created when in shower stall itself which resulted in the shower curtain being sucked toward you and against your body. I tried leaving the bathroom door open, closed, fan on, fan off - nothing worked. This could have been resolved with a proper, heavier, shower curtain and not just a flimsy nylon liner.

Again, good value for money, just be aware of tiny mouldy bathroom.

Thank you for making my first visit to Cairns safe and comfortable. Sam and Irene were very gracious hosts, assisting with early check-in and early check-out, directions and recommendations. Quaint, old school charm. The location is ideal and walking distance to everything, from the esplanade and CBD, to the marina and Central Station. Tour pick ups were conveniently located at the hotel or the Novotel 2 blocks away. I never felt unsafe walking to/from rhe hotel, no matter the hour. The room was spacious and comfortable, albeit, no lift, so you'll have to carry your bags. The kitchen was well appointed and the washer and dryer were a blessing.The pool is tranquil for an evenings swim after a long day, although the flying foxes were quite the surprise at dusk. If I do return to Cairns, I will likely book again.

My stay at Cascade Gardens was a little disappointing. The location looks good on paper, since it is just 15-20 minutes by walking from the Esplanade and the Marina, but if you go in the opposite direction, just walking around the area does not feel safe at all, especially at night. Communication with the property is a little slow, sometimes taking around a day to get an answer and I didn't even get a response to my question on how to check out at early hours. The rooms are spacious and the bed is comfortable, but the cleanliness is a clear issue in the property. For example, the carpet on the floor had hundreds of hairs from other people, at least that I could extract...

The apartments are very clean, comfortable, convenient, and self-catering of meals in the kitchen with all utensils provided. This is a nice budget accommodation.

If you’re looking for an upscale place you may not be happy here.

Negative things: painted cinderblock walls, International Roast brand coffee (the cheapest vile coffee), 2 toilet papers for your entire stay (BYO), 2 garbage bags for your entire stay (BYO), no washer/dryer in unit, no dishwasher, no oven, no shampoo, no conditioner, weekly housekeeping.

Positive things: clean, bright, good location (walkable), spacious, helpful staff,

Having said that I would definitely consider staying at this accommodation again, keeping in mind that this is a 3.5 star apartment and not a 4.0 or 4.5 star apartment complex. In other words, the charges are less than other places in this area because the facilities are less luxurious. Therefore I would say that the value for money is good.

It was a reasonably priced, good kitchen but unfortunately It was not as stated on the website. No “hot tub or spa” their free toiletries package only consisted of 1 tiny soap, 2 toilet rolls. We stayed there for a week and ran out of toilet paper, and were told we had to buy our own. Wardrobe was broken and we had to hang our clothes in the broom closet. Would of been good for the price if they weren’t so frugal and then I wouldn’t be writing this complaint. When you go on a holiday you want to relax and not worry about trivial stuff like this!! Great location but sadly in need of some TLC

This hotel was chosen on location, and family previous stays. Sadly there wasn’t much that impressed me. The reception staff was less than friendly, our room was on the 3rd floor, no lift. The ceiling fans worked on 3 and 1. Wasn’t hot enough to use air con, which was to be serviced during our stay. The amount of dust under the bed was incredible, along with a packet of chips and bar of soap. The bathroom was dated and the shower dripped continuously and the shower curtain needed something to hold it from draping us. The dryer kept cutting out/overheating after about 10mins.
The good side to our stay was the location, walking distance to the shops and esplanade and the pool was a lovely place.

Disappointing stay at Cascade Gardens

The stay was disappointing. One of the key reason for selecting this property was because of daily housekeeping being available (pic attached). However, we were informed through a piece of paper (on check-in) that there is no daily housekeeping (available at additional cost). The same piece of paper added that garbage needed to be cleared from the room at the end of stay. We were staying for 9 nights. If not, additional cost will be charged. There is a one-time housekeeping after 6 days. All these were not made known on Hotels.com app. There are probably other inaccuracies and non-transparent practices which we were fortunate not to have encountered.
