This is a cool hotel, but be aware. They are going through major renovation. The Canal view room that I paid for believing it would be the grand Canal from the pictures was a small window about the size of a shoebox, looking out the back of the hotel at a small canal. The original room was so small we couldn’t fit our Carry-on luggage in it with us. We asked him to change us to another room and they did so happily it was a huge room with a view of what they call the garden. The room was great except every morning at 8:30. They started construction in the room above us. If you go out in Venice and want to enjoy the city and eat late as most Venetians, do this is not the hotel you want to stay in while they go through this renovation.

On the upside, the staff was fantastic and the place is so clean and brand new for the rooms that are finished. They are spectacular. Amazing marble bathrooms, nice beds and amenities in the room.

I took my wife to celebrate her 50th birthday with our family and Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli did not dissapoint.
From our first arrival the staff we absolutely wonderful.
The rooms, fantastic, clean and well appointed. The location of the hotel is perfect for an arrival from the airport via water taxi or Vaporetto and is within easy walking distance from all the main areas, however, it is in a really nice and quiet location, meaning you do not feel in the middle of the tourist maddness! A great base for a stay in Venice - highly recommended. We will definately be back!

Amazing stay on our last stop of 2-week trip through Italy. Top-notch service, clean, good location, authentic property, convenience of a dock right on the Grand Canal, and a good breakfast to start each day. We received an upgraded room for our anniversary along with a bottle of chilled prosecco awaiting us - such a nice gesture which we really appreciated! The jr suite gave us much more room and a balcony. Heads up - There are complimentary tours to Murano which we didn’t know about - save money $/or headache figuring out zaporettos. Truly wonderful property but the service was the best!

Our stay was ideal for multiple nights in Venice. The staff was helpful and fun to visit with. The location next to San Stae was very convenient and the breakfast exceeded expectations! The rooms were well appointed and recently remodeled but werw tight and the mattresses were beyond firm (our only real complaint). I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

No such thing as a guarantee!

All I can say, is that when you book as a couple, you run the great potential of being moved to a \"sister\" hotel, due to unexpected (and unbelievable) \"unfortunate water damage\" to your previously guaranteed booked room. It was obvious to us that we were being relocated in order to accommodate a larger group, who were to occupy several rooms. The little guy finishes last.
We were denied a chance to visually see the alleged water-damaged room, and had no recourse, but to accept the alternative offered. Who needs to drag luggage around Venice on a Friday afternoon, seeking another hotel?
We specifically selected this hotel due to its proximity to the Alla Laguna San Stae station, hoping not to have to transport luggage for any unnecessarily long distances, since we are both senior citizens.
We were moved to a hotel two water bus stops away, to a less desirable area of Venice, close to the bus station. And during the transfer, the hotel representatives, Davide and his colleague had us enter through the exit portal to enter the boat without paying for the transfer.
Although the room in the sister hotel was rather grand, we needed to get up earlier in order to be moved back to the San Stae station on the morning of our departure, causing us to be deprived of a relaxing breakfast.
Booking this hotel is a gamble.

This hotel was amazing! We received an outstanding service from every staff member. The location of the hotel is right next to a bus stop and only 20 minutes walk from St. Marks Square.

We arrived at night in a thunderstorm. We got off the boat on the Grand Canal. We knew we were close but saw no sign. We had never been to Venice. VERY frustrating trying to find the entrance in the dark and rain.We were soaked dragging our luggage by the time we found the entrance down a very narrow \"street\". THEY NEED A SIGN!!! Otherwise the stay was pleasant.

The Palazzo was the best hotel we could've booked in the Venice area. It's at the San Stae stop, so an easy walk off a vaporetto and convenient walk to all of the attractions. We wanted to be away from the square but within close enough proximity to walk and see local food/bars/etc along the way. I cannot possibly offer a better location, staff, or hotel than the Palazzo. The breakfast is wonderful each morning and included in your stay. The staff will bend over backwards to help you out so ask any and all questions. The rooms are very nice, we had canal view and enjoyed the entire hotel experience.

We stayed in the hotel for a birthday treat. We got upgraded to a nice room overlooking the water. The hotel had easy access from the nearby vapoarreta stage to all of Venice. Some reception staff were nice others a little curt. the waiting staff in the breakfast room always nice and eager to help. I liked this hotel and our whole to trip to Venice, would come here to this hotel again.

I had an excellent time staying here. Check in was smooth and easy, with an unexpected upgrade for my room. Desk staff was always friendly and helpful, like when I needed to borrow a corkscrew, or if I needed directions, or help understanding my Venezia Unica pass. My room was clean and comfortable, and quite large. Breakfast was a full breakfast, with attentive staff who kept all of the food dishes full, clean, and orderly. Convenience could not have been better, right next to the San Stae vaporetto stop. If you arrive by vaporetto or Alilaguna, face the church San Star, and cross the small bridge on your left. Walk a few steps, take the first left, and the hotel will on your left.

Hotel is nice, easy to get to, but not easy to find, even though it is right on the San Stae vaporetto stop and overlooking the Great Canal. Get of the vaporetto, cross small bridge to your left, turn right, walk ~ 20 steps - there will be a tiny opening between two buildings, turn left there, walk 5 steps and you will see a big open space on your left and the entrance to the hotel.

On the Grand Canal but away from the crowds

We stayed five nights in mid-September and really enjoyed our time in Venice. The staff at Palazzo Giovanelli were very helpful. The hotel is in a quiet location but it's an easy walk to the Rialto Bridge and San Marco Square (the latter being flooded one time we tried to go there). We found several excellent nearby restaurants and enjoyed nearby San Giacomo dell'Orio square. Had an excellent tour with Isabella through Tour by Locals.

This was the best hotel of our two week adventure through Italy! The room was great with a full american shower in marble and very clean! The hotel staff was so helpful and arranged a trip to Murano, our dinner reservations and our taxi's (including a one hour personal tour).

The hotel is right next to a public boat service on the grand canal so it easy to use that for getting around. We walked quite a bit to see everything but it is useful when you get tired!

Beautiful hotel, uninformative reception!

The hotel itself is a beautiful and historic building that is well maintained. has a lovely atmosphere and very well located. The breakfast is very good too. However the reception was very uninformative and didn't care if we needed information about the city and the neighborhood. Even when we asked how to get to other side of canal we were given false information as the guy behind the reception didn't even care! I expected much better attitude for the hotel of this caliber.

Disappointed but loved venice

For the price paid we should have had better service. The bartender gave us a wonderful dinner recommendation and the gentleman with the glasses at the desk was helpful with us. The room had ceilings that to say were low is an understatement! If you are over 4ft tall don't accept room 503! Banged head 3 times in first 5 minutes and we are 5'5\" and 5'9\". No one asked how our stay was and we had to argue with the front desk for towels, room was never refreshed.

The Hotel is Central but disappointing

The staff on the main reception didn't make any effort to be welcoming and did the absolute minimum. When I made a complain about not being able to control the room temperature as set to 26 degrees, I was told the AC doesn't come on till May, and to open the window. When I opened the window the room filled up with smoke as there are two tables and chairs positioned in the courtyard outside the room that were used by staff and customers to smoke. Also to sleep with open windows next to the main walkway in and out of the hotel was very noisy. Unfortunately we feel we had the worst room (11) in the whole hotel and when we asked about paying to change the room we were told they were fully booked. Very upsetting.

Beautiful quiet hotel right on the water

Beautiful hotel on the Grand Canal, only a 5 min water taxi ride from the train station ($50). Right next to a water bus station where you go anywhere all over Venice for about $20 per day, or about $3 per ride. Very nicely appointed room with luxury finishes, but was very small. We had a premium room with a partial canal view. It was very pretty, but not amazing. Venice however is amazing and it is easy to see all of it, once getting aboard the water bus. Walking to or from main tourist areas can be done, but all streets are supper short, so many, many, many turns are required and Google Maps doesn't work well, due to tall buildings and super narrow streets. It was nice to not be in the middle of the tourist area though. Very quiet and safe location, away from the bustling crowds that are elsewhere in Venice. A very good breakfast was also included and there are a couple of reasonably priced excellent restaurants nearby in addition to the restaurant onsite. This hotel is perfect for those who want to escape the throngs of people that are by St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge. When you wish it. you can be there in about 15 mins.

Wonderful Stay at Palazzo Giovanelli

We had a corner room overlooking the canal and water taxi. It was a treat to open the windows and watch Venice starting it's day. The staff was excellent and the breakfast was filled with great food. The location was what we wanted, away from the big touristy parts and crowds but within walking distance and the close water taxi to get there. The airport shuttle also comes right there.

I was satisfy with the location of the hotel. It is very easy to find. However, the bathroom shower is extremely SMALL! It's like the size of the shower on the cruise ship. We have be very careful to make sure the water does not splash out of the curtain........ I specifically address several times to make sure the shower about not splashing out the water...... Disappointed..... Breakfast is simple with great coffee. I will only recommend the hotel if the price is less than USD 125

Great Location!

The hotel is in a great location as it's located right next to a water taxi stop and you don't have to carry your bags around Venice. It is also located far enough away from the hustle bustle as to make it feel a bit secluded. The hotel itself has a spectacular lobby and entrance garden and the view of the river from their private dock is like a post card. The hotel itself is a mix of very old and charming and kinda new and not so charming. Overall it was a good experience and I would likely stay here again, if just for the ease of location and a GREAT restaurant one street over.

We arrived late the first night to the San Stae Vaporetto stop. We had a bit of trouble finding the front door of the hotel (not clearly marked that we had to enter a narrow side street).

Stefano at the front desk greeted us warmly and told us that he was giving us an upgrade--Room 101--no canal view but spacious. The next morning we were \"further upgraded\" to 106, a smaller room but with a window on the canal. We paid $375 per night.

The front desk personnel were uniformly warm and helpful--led by Stefano who worked hard to make us happy. The kitchen staff was also wonderful led by Indira. Thank you to them all.

In sum, I wouldn't classify this as a 5 star hotel--more like a 4--and in my opinion, it is somewhat overpriced despite its prime location. But I would recommend it if you are looking for a spot on the Grand Canal.

Amazing beautiful hotel

This was probably the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. The artwork and vaulted ceilings made us feel like royalty. We loved everything about this hotel. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Thank you to the desk clerk who made me a coffee at 4 am when I work up super early! And also went out of his way to give me brochures and maps. I wish our stay could have been longer than 1 night. The location is super convenient with a dock for water taxi. Thanks for making our first and very short trip to Venice memorable

Nice hotel & centrally located on the Grand Canal

This hotel is a little away from St. Mark's Square which made it less busy, but with still enough of a buzz. It's located in the middle of the Grand Canal, so all of the attractions of Venice are easy and quick to get to by boat taxi. The hotel is beautiful, clean and the hotel staff is amazing. It's also right around the corner from Osteria Moceniga, a restaurant I highly recommend!

Fantastic Place in Venice, Italy

Great check-in experience. Room was clean and relatively spacious by European standards. The concierge was helpful and knowledgeable about the neighborhood. But, make sure to download the GPS maps before you go. Venice is crazy confusing with all of the bridges, canals and dead end alleys.

we either got their worst possible room on account of cheap fares, or they're all false advertising as we found no picture on the website represented our room. while the room was clean, it was very small with little space besides the bed, and the bathroom had no tub, and the shower was so small you could barely fit inside. as we complained about the room and felt disappointed, their offer was to upgrade by paying 100 eur more for each night. Really obvious cash grab! a shame as the external and common areas looked nicer and Venice is a great place to visit if you dont mind the Italians general bad mood for tourists..

Vaporetto stop right next to hotel

We got the room with a super high 16th century wood beam ceiling (according to the bellhop) The room takes a while for the AC to work so give it plenty of time to cool down. The bathroom is EXTREMELY small. I'm not one to complain about small bathroom but what we got was so small. The toilet was inches away from the shower. The person who cleans our room never seem to refill what we used and on our last night did not even throw the trash away. However, the breakfast is good. Everyone seems to be really friendly especially the breakfast servers. The hotel is right next to Sta Stae Vaporetto which is super convenient.

We stayed 4 nights. The hotel is close to San Stae vaporetto stop which makes it quite convenient for getting around. We had a luxury room on level 1, just by the lift. A window with a view onto the courtyard with vines growing was quite nice. The was quite spacious for the two of us, but I would hate to think what a standard room is like - cramped? Breakfast included - usual Euro items. Overall not cheap, but any hotel accommodation in Venice is expensive I think...

Fantastic looking hotel lovely inside.Good points;relaxing and breakfast staff were fabulous,very attentive and eager to please. Unfortunately reception staff were extremely rude. When we arrived at 21.00 our room was not ready because they had got our booking wrong and the female receptionist who was quite ignorant expected my six year old daughter to sleep in the same bed as us. When we refused she reluctantly gave us the Presidential Suite for one night which was fantastic but too big. The second night when we got our own room it was extremely disappointing = I had purposely booked and paid for a Superior Room which according to the website would have a canal view and be luxuriously appointed. This was not the case - the only view was of someones' washing line next door and the room was tiny ; I think in truth because we had played our face on arrival the female assistant had put us in a much smaller room than we had paid for, On the day we left I sat in reception waiting for my family and observed two couples arrive at the hotel. The male receptionist was extremely rude to them with zero interaction - in fact the only words to said to one couple was \"passports\". Surely there should be some interaction with paying customers. I would not return even though I loved the hotel itself and its architecture and communal areas which were well appointed. When we left we said bye the response from the ignoramous behind the counter was \"grunt\"! Mind you by then he had got my money.

The hotel from the outside doesnt do it justice this hotel is beautiful on the inside. Also you can arrive by boat sine it has its own deck but if you dont you can walk in thru the back of the building where the main entrance is.

My stay in the Giovanelli e Gran Canal

Loved the room and the area. The hotel was nice. However, wifi was something like 5euro an hour haha! Very ridiculous.. The breakfast was great as you had a big choice of food. The staff were attentive but stood and stared at us at the breakfast room more than anything to be honest, which I don't think is very comfortable for the guest. Overall a good stay and I would recommend but I've noted the areas I would've liked to have seen an improvement.

Last stay on a 17 day honeymoon. Hotel is in a great location. Removed from all the tourists but only a short walk (3-4 mins) from all. Room was fantastic. Huge with a balcony over the water. Staff was nice but not overly so. You have to ask for what you need or want and sometimes you get different answers. Would definitely stay there again.

Great location, unique building, clean rooms!

Stayed at Palazzo Giovanelli in late September. The hotel was easily accessible from Marco Polo airport via Alilaguna Arrancio which stops at San Stae. We took the attic room which was the cheapest but still expensive. It was very small but clean and nice. WiFi isn't free, but we requested for it and the reception decided to give it to us complimentary. Breakfast was not fantastic.

Close to some lovely local restaurants that are reasonably priced. Only downfall for us was that the bed and pillows were a bit too firm for our liking, just a personal preference. Other than that, can't speak highly enough!

Luxurious Hotel, With Added Bonus Of Location

Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration trip booked for three nights. Greeted by the porter, who was extremely welcoming and helpful. The Hotel décor was beautiful with venetian ornate glass light fittings and local designer items on show. Our room was grand, having a large comfortable bed and it was cleaned daily. Best to arrive earlier rather than later for breakfast as not all items replenished, but still sufficient. Location excellent as next to a water bus stop, which makes getting about easy. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Beautiful hotel hidden in the canals of Venice.

Enjoyed the hotel a lot. Very nice bar in the lobby, and a beautiful historic sitting areay on the second floor, complete with portraits from the 1400s.

Had a very nice stay. I'd return in a heartbeat.

Came to Venice for the Biennale. The hotel was great. Expensive, in my opinion, but that's what happens during the tourist season. Clean room, and a clean large bathroom. Stayed for six nights. Had one electric power failure in our room, 406, which was quickly corrected. (It was the circuit breaker).
Great location - for walking anywhere we wanted to go. The Vaporetto 1 stopped right near the hotel if we felt like taking the water route. San Stae is the stop. We couldn't ask for a much better location.
Mr Fort was very helpful and very knowledgeable. Joseph and Davide were also very helpful. The two young ladies in the breakfast room were terrific! (I cannot recall their names at this moment). They made us feel very comfortable and very welcome, as did all the staff. The breakfast buffet was filled with plenty of food.
Took a few nice pics from the back deck of the hotel. It's right on the Gran Canal. I wish I had taken more. Next time.

Leak in the room ceiling and uncooperative Staff

We got in around 7:30 pm and immediately after check in left for dinner. Got back into our room late and found my side of the bed damp. There was a leak in the ceiling. When I called the front office the manager on duty demanded to know where the water was coming from. He said it was late (after midnight) and they didn't have any rooms available and I needed to be practical. He flipped my mattress and helped me change my sheets.
However water continued to drip all night!
When we complained next morning they feigned iignorance of the previous night as well as claimed that they were unaware of any leak from the ceiling. We were asked to write our complaint to the General Manager.
The overhead shower did not work either.
It was a very frustrating stay at this hotel.

Rudest Staff

The front desk staff of this hotel were the rudest people we ever met. We arrived at 11am and were not even offered to check in early. Check in was 2PM. That is fine, I understand the room may not be ready, but they did not even look. We asked for wifi access and they provided us with a log in. When we tried to log in the error message stated \"Maximum Participants reached\". The front desk acted as though they had never heard this before. They said we were likely putting the code in incorrectly and gave us a new log in. The same message came up for the second log in. Finally brought my device to the front desk for them to try. When he got the error message he says \"Madame, you are right as sometimes women are\" and proceeded to tell me that the system can only be accessed by a certain amount of users. From then on I refused to speak to Davide.

The next day we asked about a gondola ride and where we could go on one. They said they offered their own romantic package (150EUR to 30 minutes). As an FYI, the agreed upon gondola rate is 80EUR for 30 minutes. We told them we were not interested in and if they had other suggestions they firmly said no. As we walked away we heard they say \"stupido\" loudly.

Aside from the front desk staff's rudeness, we were in a room where the bottom of the wall was chipping and looked like molding away. The A/C also stopped working one night.

I would give this zero stars if possible.

Awesome hotel

My wife and I absolutely loved this hotel. The staff are professional, kind, and very helpful. The hotel is next to the San Stae stop for Alilaguna and ACTV - two companies that provide water transportation to and from the airport. We had no problem finding this hotel. Be prepared to get lost if you choose to explore Venice by walking.also, make sure to have small bills when checking out. All hotels in Venice require you to pay a small fee for city taxes. This fee is not included in your bill for hotels.com. I believe we payed 10 Euro for each night. Several restaurants and snack shops are within walking distance from the hotel.

Beautiful Venetian hotel, great location.

We arrived at the jetty of Hotel having experienced a Private boat along the Grand Canal from the airport. A definite must, to start the holiday. The reception area was clean, and beautifully decorated. We were greeted by warm and friendly staff, and we're lucky to discover that even though we were a few hours early, our room was ready.
The porter escorted us to our room (the Suite Doge Foscarini), where we were absolutely delighted to discover what lay inside.
WOW, will never do our initial thoughts justice. An incredible room with large 4 poster bed, dining area, lounge area with TV, and fully stocked refrigerator, changing area, bathroom with hydro bath, and separate shower. Perfect. The room was decorated beautifully, and tastefully, and upon opening the full length curtains, we were treated to a wonderful view of the Grand Canal from the 2 balconies.
Each morning, we had the choice of Continental breakfasts in the dining area, again beautifully decorated, clean, and with friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast choices were always well presented, and tasted fantastic.
I cannot rate this Hotel highly enough. The staff were knowledgable, warm ,friendly and helpful, and if we are to ever visit Venice again, we will definitely stay here.

Me and my husband spent 2 nights in this hotel and were overall very pleased with the choice. Price was reasonable for Venice, good standard hotel, clean and good service. Breakfast slightly limited choice but sufficient enough to start the day, plenty of other places to eat in Venice. Excellent location, 15 minutes walk from St Marks busy areas so nice and quiet but not isolated. Would recommend!

Great hotel in the perfect location.

The Palazzo Giovanelli was in a great spot for us - right on the Grand Canal next to the St Stae boat stop. We arrived and departed via the Alilaguna boat from the airport, which is a great way to transfer. Some mornings we used the vaporetta boat which meant we travelled virtually the whole length of the Grand Canal from the hotel to St a Marks Square. Walking was also easy, only 20 mins to the square. The area the hotel is in ( Santa Croce, San Polo) is very picturesque but also much quieter than San Marco, so very pleasant for drinks and food in the evenings. The hotel was very clean and 'smart' looking. We had a lovely breakfast each morning. Our room was a standard, without a Grand Canal view, as the supplement for this seemed excessive. Overall an excellent hotel, recommended to us, and one we would certainly recommend yo others.

Perfect hotel for a weekend in Venice

Front desk Staff were very helpful, they recommended a fantastic local restaurant for our 1st evening. A highlight was the amazing Italian coffee served at breakfast! The room was clean & spacious. The only thing that wasn't great was the selection of uk/English speaking tv channels but you don't visit Venice to watch tv! Would highly recommend and return myself for another visit.

Don't stay there, hot rooms

Our hotel room was hot, over 84F. We asked how to cool the room. They said the air conditioner had been turned off and there was nothing they could do for us. It was miserable. They did not seem to care. When we were in the room, we opened the window and then got bitten by mosquitoes. We will never stay there again! This was our 4th time in Venice, 1st and last time at this hotel.

Great Locaiton

Hotel is brilliantly situated on grand canal - water taxi right to front door and San Stae vaporetto stop next door. 15 min walk to Rialto and another 15 min to San Marco. Renovated old palace with some old charm retained. Only problem was a mix up between hotels.com and the hotel over our booking - initially one of two rooms not available for our first night of 5 - eventually sorted but not great customer service initially.

\"View\" room not such a view

We booked a superior room with a view on Expedia. They gave us a room on the first floor with a \"lateral\" view that was basically a view of the courtyard in front of the vaparetto station. Also, we we're kept awake until 130 am on the second night by a combination of footsteps in the room above us and boat engines (vaparetto and delivery boats throughout the night). Mgmt agreed to move us to the top floor which was much better than the room we had (interiors much more updated, view better, and noise much better, very quiet). Just wish they had moved us on the first night rather than the third. Good price relative to rest of over-priced Venice but clearly room for improvement.

The hotel was easy to find and get to by Venice standards; right off the Vaperetto exit at St. Ste. We did not have to lug our luggage through the narrow streets. The views of the canal were beautiful. Breakfast was very nice. Overall we were very pleased and would happily stay again.

Nice hotel tucked away from the main stream areas

Requested a superior room with a canal view. Got a superior room with a back of hotel view. Bath took over 40 mins to fill and was blocked so wouldn't empty. After reporting it to reception it still took over 30 mins to fill, but managed to empty. Bedside reading lights didn't work. Got bedside lamps with sloped sides so most things slid off onto the floor. No coffee/tea facilities in the room so all on room service. Not my idea of a 4*
Staff were good.
