The front counter staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful. Marie(the manager) and Jose were the two we dealt with most, and they were great. The rest of the staff including Orlean (spelled wrong i'm sure) were very professional. The lobby and breakfast areas are very nicely done and Marie has a green thumb, they plants are beautiful. We did have a few minor issues, the cleaning staff did a nice job, but were very noisy in the morning and we had a couple of times the towels were not replaced correctly(face towels instead of bath towels). The only other issue was the door closures are VERY loud, if you open the door to your room and just let close you will wake ever room on the hall. Some of our neighbors would leave and come in at all hours and just let the doors slam.Some sort of padding or gasket would really make a difference.

Perfection for us

This was the perfect stay for us. A sweet little neighborhood in the 14th Arrondissement. Near the Porte d'Orleans convenient transit hub (and near our cousin). But the concierges and other staff were the highlight. They were very helpful in every way. They spoke English yet listened to my crummy French with patience and encouragement. Absolutely lovely people. A cute clean smart hotel. I would love to return some day. Wisdh I could give 10 stars.

Comfortable stay.

Really nice stay - had a family room (1 large room, total of 3 beds). Bathroom was clean, beds were comfortable, room was quiet and spacious. Nice closet space and great for our multi-day trip with kids. Staff was very kind and helpful. We didn't get breakfast, and used the fridge to store groceries we got nearby. Couple of great bakeries in walking distance and supermarket next door. We were on the top floor and did fine with the tiny elevator.

This was the most positive experience I have had of Paris hotels. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful, and very forgiving of my poor French. I loved the location; it's an easy 10-15 minute walk from Cité Universitaire which is on the direct line from CDG. It feels less touristy so you're away from the crowds but it's very easy to get to wherever you want to go in Paris from here. As is standard for Paris, the rooms are small but pleasantly appointed.

Wonderful experience!

I absolutely loved this hotel! Although not very close to main attractions, the subway is a short distance away and there are many restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel is clean and the beds extremely comfortable. However what I enjoyed the most about my stay was the wonderful service we received by the front desk staff. Aurelie, Maria and Jose Luis are absolutely wonderful! I will definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel.

Service of staff is good. There is complimentary drinks and snacks at the hotel lobby. The room is very small but well-equipped. Close to subway and tramway, supermarkets and restaurants. Good choice for holiday in Paris if the price did not rise up suddenly for a few nights.

Pros: Bed was very comfortable, and staff were friendly. Right next to the metro and grocery stores.

Cons: Our bathroom was half broken. The toilet flush button would get stuck into the wall and the only way to make the water stop coming was to pick the button out of the wall with a plastic knife. Bathroom lights also did not work. The shower could barely drain, and if you took a shower longer than 5 minutes the water would start seeping through the glass door. Complained to the staff about the issues, and despite them saying they would look at it, none of the issues were fixed.

Also on the opposite end of Paris from most tourist destinations.

Nice hotel, but double charged for city hotel tax

I've traveled to Paris for 20 years and stayed in 35 or 40 different hotels during that time. Hotel Virginia is one of the best values I've seen. The room and common areas were very clean. Hotel feels new throughout. The hotel is on a very quiet side street less than 5 minute walk from the Porte d'Orleans metro stop (line 4) and the Porte d'Orleans (tram 3a stop), making it very convenient. Room that I booked (lowest category) was small but made very efficient use of space. WiFi worked well and consistently on both my devices. If you're traveling during summer, be aware that the hotel not only has air conditioning, but a thermostat in each room--a rarity for Paris. Mattress was very comfortable; there are three grocery stores (Lidl, Leader Price, Franprix) less than 50 meters from the hotel. Also be aware that you will be asked to pay the local Paris city lodging tax (in French, la taxe de sejour) of 1,88 euros at check in, even if your room is prepaid through the booking website. This is not a scam; all hotels in Paris are required to collect this tax. This was the only problem that I had: the clerk asked me to pay it on checking in and I did because I was leaving two days later at 5.30 am. On check-out, a different clerk insisted that I pay the tax again. I protested but did not have a receipt to show, and ended up paying again after a brief argument. I sent the hotel an email in French to the hotel asking for a refund, but a week later still have had no response.

When we first arrived, they told us to wait a few minutes to check in so we went out for an hour and 30 minutes. When we got back the room still wasn’t ready and she asked us to wait 10 minutes so we did. Once the room was ready, she didn’t have the key and said she thought she gave it to us but she didn’t so we had some issues there. Once we arrived at the room, the people before us must have left the windows open and there were a lot of little flies in our room. The maid came and helped get them out for us when we asked them to get rid of them. After those 3 first issues, the stay was pleasant.

Wonderful gem in the 14th

Wonderful gem of a hotel! Spotless room, spacious for Paris, good shower and most of all the staff are exceptionally friendly, multi-lingual and staffing the desk 24/7. I recommend for anyone. The 14th has plenty of charm and it is a short / easy metro or bus ride to all the major attractions. Metro and bus are 1/2 block away.

The best thing about this hotel is the connectivity. It's hardly 5 min walk to the nearest metro and the bus station. The hotel was very clean. Also, we had 24X7 hot water in the bathroom. The only downside I can think of is that the room is small and balcony mentioned in the feature list is basically a one or two lines of bricks extended from the window :) The hotel staff were very courteous and helpful with the directions and planning. We tried the breakfast for a day and it was okay. They also provide a large safe in the room which could hold my laptop as well along with other valuables. There's housekeeping everyday and the room was clean.

Although the room is small, it IS wonderful. Extra touches such as comfortable bed, functional and superior shower, make up mirror lights, hair dryer, charming decor (curtains and carpets). Small yet again, charming hotel with French art deco touches. Very close to public transportation, shopping and supermarket.

I stayed in a standard room, so a bit small but the mattress was good, it was quiet, the bathroom is brand new. There was just a bit of dust in my table. They were all super friendly at the reception. The area has nothing special, stayed there as my business event was nearby but it's close to the tube (good one) and they have a delicious bakery at the corner.

Hotel Virgina was the perfect choice for us. It is located very near both metro and bus stops, and an ATM. Two grocery stores are even closer. It really couldn't be more convenient. The staff was very helpful and kind, and we needed their help since we didn't speak any French! Breakfast, although not included in the price, is very good. They even sold several museum tickets at the front desk which allowed us to skip those lines at the museums. Rooms are small but well-appointed and kept nice and clean. We enjoyed returning to a more residential neighborhood at night where it was quieter than other parts of Paris. I spent hours searching a for a great hotel in Paris at a good price, and I'm so glad we chose Hotel Virgina.

The hotel staff were friendly and were available 24/7. The room was small but comfortable and had a TV, fridge, kettle, hair dryer and a small balcony. The bed was very comfortable and there was sufficient storage for our luggage.The location was excellent. There was a grocery store, bus terminal, subway line (Metro), restaurants and shops all within 2 min from us. We traveled to the center of Paris each day and using the Metro could be there in about 15 min. Super easy to follow as well. Highly recommend purchasing a multi-day pass (available at a self-serve machine at the bus terminal).

Excellent location near Porte d'Orleans , yet on a quiet street. 6 tram stops from the Congress and exhibitions at Porte de Versailles (9min) and excellent connection to city center by bus and metro. Plenty of restaurants, shops and groceries in the neighborhood. Safe. Cozy hotel, well maintained and very clean. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help.

Great Little Hotel

Great little hotel, ask for Maria, she will do her best to help with any issues. Short walk to the Port de Orleans metro station, currently the city is working on the street out in front but no big deal, plus there is a great little well stocked supermarket next door, just ask for Lue, she will answer any questions about the products in the market, just tell her Henry from Los Angeles sent you, she speaks English and Spanish very well. I will absolutely stay here again on my next trip to Paris.

Budget friendly, Cozy hotel, great staff

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel. This is Paris so expect small rooms anywhere you stay. I love this hotel because it is a so close to the metro M4, grocery store, and patisserie. The staff are so friendly and extremely helpful. Marie especially as she went out of her way to be helpful and make this trip with my daughter special. I will definitely be staying here again.

Great location, around the corner from the Porte d'Orleans metro station. Lively area but hotel in quieter street. Not close to main attractions but with the metro you're downtown in 20-30 minutes. Two extremely convenient grocery stores one minute walk from hotel.
Entrance looks shabby but rooms are very nice, spacious, nicely decorated and above all clean. Safe, hair dryer, mini bar and coffee kettle provided. Only downside is breakfast is very expensive (11€ at the moment) if it's not included. However, with the stores next door there's no shortage of food. Very happy and highly recommended.

In the hotel on my floor was renovation. A big noise from drilling walls make me out from the room for couple of hours. What was good, was the extremely hot water in the bathroom. Be carefull, the minibar was not loaded. I made a picture fro evidence, because after the hotel can ask for payment.

We stayed 6 nights in this old but comfortable hotel. Perfect house cleaning, very helpful staff, and very easy access to communication made this hotel good value for the money. Room was tiny (as always in Paris), and next door was a construction site with noise from early morning. We would also have liked the option of making coffee in our room. But all in all we had a good stay.

Great Stay in Paris

Hotel Virgina is great hotel to stay in Paris and I will plan to use again. Front desk staff was friendly and very helpful with city directions and Metro/bus connections. Thank you, Aruial, at the front desk...from my arrival she was very kind and answered all our questions. Didn't use the breakfast so can't comment but plenty of spots to eat in the neighborhood. Location is great for using Metro to visit all over the city and bus stop is at the corner. Room was very comfortable with a stocked mini-frig and the in room safe is laptop compatible. Wi-fi worked well in our room. I would recommend for a visit in Paris...the hotel is just far enough removed from all the hustle, bustle and tourists nearer the city center but still very accessible and in a nice neighborhood in Montparnasse section of Paris.

Ok for a budget hotel

This was a very minimal hotel experience. The hotel itself is incredibly small. Two people plus two pieces of carry-on luggage were a tight squeeze in the elevator. The room was super tiny too, not much space to move around at all. Bed was okay, but carpet was somewhat dirty. There was water damage to the wall next to the bed, with wallpaper cracking and peeling. Bathroom was impeccably clean, but it was the size of an airplane toilet with a small shower stall included.

Although I see that the hotel staff make an effort to provide a nice experience, it isn't relaxing to stay in such extremely cramped quarters. Wouldn't stay here again.

Good Place to Move Through The City

Great location and a bit out of the center with less tourists and more neighbors. Plenty of stores and restaurants in the areawith a great market street 2 metro stops away at Rue Daguerre-Denfert Rocherau. Will return as movement in and out of the city was great. 8 Metro lines are linked with the tram line at Port d'Orleans and within 10 minutes you can catch both 8 different trains and RER (B) to almost anywhere with very few changes.

We had a good experience at this hotel. The staff was very helpful especially since we don't speak French.
The room was neat and clean but small, especially the bathroom, which is very typical of hotels in this area and price range.
There are many options for eating in the neighborhood and transportation is just a few blocks away.
There was some construction going on across the street and yet we found the room very quiet.
We would stay here again and I would recommend this hotel as long as you are ok with a smaller room.

Our stay was pleasant as the lobby is nice and there was a good, simple European breakfast. The room was very small, as we were three people and barely had space to walk with luggage in the room. The bathroom is in need of updating. Also, as three people in the room, we always needed 3 large towels and on most days were given 2. We should not have to request additional towels each day.

Less than 5 min from the metro station. Stayed there for 4 nights. Staff is amazing and very knowledgeable. The area is average however many nice places to eat within a 10 min walk. From fine Italian restaurant to cafés and shawerma place, it is decent for the price. If you plan to stay there like us e.g. leave in morning for sight seeing and come back in evening to sleep and relax, this hotel is ideal. The only problem is they only have 2 or 3 English channels on TV and one night our code for the in room safe didn't work and had to be reset by the morning staff. Besides that, we felt safe and comfortable and had a good time.

We stayed 10 days - the woman at the desk drew 3 bus routes on a map, from which we were able to get to everything we wanted. Very helpful. Hotel is also very convenient to transit to go the Givery and Versailles. Beds were very comfortable, and it was nice to have a grocery store right next door. Don't let the chipped baseboard trim bother you - all is clean, and no doubt it's hard to keep paint trim perfect with suitcases banging into it all the time. An 8 out of ten - only because it's smaller and doesn't have every amenity. But isn't that what we come to Paris for?

A good clean hotel in a nice location

The staff were extremely friendly and the hotel looked newly refurbished. The room was though very petite, but for us travelling, the rate we got was well worth it.

If you are looking to book a room to spend a late of time lazying about in then you may want to check the room size. For us, we just needed a good clean hotel to lay our head after a big day of sight seeing.

A French Experience

Hotel Virginia is a very nice, quaint place and very affordable. It's a 3 star hotel that gives one a flavor for how most of France lives. The 5th floor room was tidy, with a small balcony. It was cool to see a panorama of Paris' rooftops in the 14th district. Bed was solid and bathroom was modern and clean. Staff was very friendly, accommodating. Housekeeping was prompt with clean towels and sheets. Kept room & bath very clean. I was very pleased with the service. Free wifi was nice; Continental breakfast was excellent; best coffee I had in France with wonderful croissants.

You'll like the cool old elevator, with it's cage like doors and walls. It's like you are stepping back to the '50's with only 2 people able to fit at the same time.

Nice hotel close to the metro

The staff, especially Maria, were very friendly and helpful. Our room was quickly ready and, while typically small, was clean and housekeeping was thorough. The neighborhood had two grocery stores and several cute cafes that we tried. The Pommes Rouge had excellent crepes. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

short weekend in Paris

The room was much smaller than anticipated. I've stayed in European hotels before and this was pretty small. I wanted something cheap for the weekend because we were just going to the catacombs and Versailles so in the end it was sufficient. On the other hand I've found nicer rooms in Paris for a similar price. Out was right down the street from the catacombs so you could walk and the metro in Paris is amazing so there was no point in driving anywhere.

Quite ok if you're looking for a budget hotel

The room was very small, the bathroom even smaller (the smallest I have seen so far) but I booked the room based on the price so I guess they might have bigger rooms if you're willing to pay a bit more. The location was really good - it was close to a metro station, there were many bus stops nearby and if you don't mind a relatively long walk, you can even walk to many places. The staff were very helpful - they gave me clear directions whenever I wasn't sure how to go a certain place. Considering it's in Paris and in a good location and is not very expensive, I'd recommend it for short stays.

great hotel for buses and metro access to city

It was affordable, the staff was very friendly and helpful and it was a convenient location to take the 28 and 38 buses straight into the tourist attractions. Also close to the RER that goes straight to CDG airport. small but cute and affordable.

Although not in the middle of Paris, this is a good quality hotel, a few minutes from a metro station, on a quiet street, but in a lively part of town. There are a supermarkets, a post office and bus station near by, as well as lots of bars and restaurants. The hotel is well maintained and the front desk staff fluent in English and friendly. Be aware that you will be asked to produce a credit card on arrival to cover any mini bar products used. My room was OK for a Paris hotel room, the bathroom was a bit of squeeze. There is a silent old fashioned lift with room for one person and a suitcase. If two people try to get in at the same time, they should at least be married to each other, because the lack of space forces a certain intimacy. Breakfast if fine, (10 euros) a good pot of hot of hot coffee, bread & croissant, etc. Good service and no complaints.

Good hotel in Paris

A nice hotel with very helpful staff. Very clean and comfortable rooms; small by American standards, but normal for Paris. The bathroom was especially tiny. Location near the Porte d'Orleans metro stop on the number 4 line made it easy to get in and out of the heart of the city, while keeping the price reasonable. Breakfast was overpriced andnot included in the room charge, somewhat to my surprise.

Desk staff so helpful

The location of the hotel is not near the tourist sites, but the desk staff was helpful informing us about bus routes and the metro, both of which are half a block away. It was easy to get where we wanted to go and inexpensive. We stayed 4 days and were very comfortable. We found places to eat breakfast cheaper than the hotel with more variety.

Lovely and Charming

This is a lovely hotel in the quiet, residential 14th arrondissement. The bus to take you to the popular sights (i.e., Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc.) is almost at your door, as is a metro station. There are several supermarkets, restaurants and pastry shops within a block or two. The staff is extremely helpful, especially Mano. The room took some adjustment as the toilet and sink were not in the same room, which at first drove me crazy, but is a typically setup in Paris. Otherwise, it was extremely comfortable. Their buffet breakfast was a great way to start my day -- I was often not hungry again until 3 p.m. I would recommend this hotel very highly to anyone.

Convenient location

Although not in the city center, convenient access to metro and bus lines makes up for it. There are super markets and bakeries nearby, so inexpensive food is readily available. The staff was friendly and helpful, the only qualm was that when traveling with an infant they expect you to treat the infant as another person...we travelled throughout other parts of France without issue, so it may be a Paris specific rule.

The rooms are small (common in cities), but well kept wih a modern design. There are nice balcony views on the upper floors. The lift is small, so if you have lots of luggage you will be shuttling it. The family rooms are multiple rooms that can be combined by closing and locking a hallway door.
