First of all, I have to say that the staff at this hotel is a 10 out of 10. This was the first hotel that we stayed at as part of a longer trip in Europe. The front desk staff was so friendly, accommodating, and very welcoming. We did not speak the native language, and although there was a language barrier, they made our entire check-in process and entire stay so easy. The room was very small, which is normal in this area, but the room and view were wonderful. There is an elevator available after you make it to the floor that the front desk is on, but beware that it’s not easy to get all of your suitcases up the first flight and a half of stairs before the elevator so if you were staying here, you may wanna pack lightly

Overall it was a good location in Paris and not a bad price. However, the room is VERY small and you do have to carry you bags up a set of stairs. We noticed half of the saff was very helpful while the other half felt like they were mocking us for our terrible french.

The property itself is a bit sketchy but for 1 or 2 nights, it's fine. The location is very good - during the day. The Denfert Rochereau station is directly in front of the property so convenience to the Metro is excellent. At night is a different story. I'm from New York so I'm not squeemish about homeless people or druggies walking around the street. However, the Hotel itself is in desperate need of an upgrade. The hallway to our room looked like something out of a horror movie and you're basically betting on something otherworldly jumping out at you right before entering the room. While the room itself was satisfactory and clean, it too can do for an upgrade. What I really DISLIKED the most of this Hotel was the fact that the moment you walk in, there's a huge, steep flight of stairs. If you have large luggage, I wish you the best of luck getting up the stairs with it in tow. I won't even mention the elevator at the top of said stairs to get to the rooms because as is customary in Europe, you can only fit 2 people with no luggage or take turns going up the elevator 1 person and 1 piece of luggage at a time. Another detail is that they lock the door of the hotel at night which is good for security but bad if G-d forbid there's a fire or if you plan to leave the hotel in the early morning like we did (we had a 5 am train to London). Our room had a wonderful view of the Eiffel Tower so it made up for the setbacks. I would recommend but only for a 1-2 night stay.

Summer family vacation.

Very nice service and rooms
We’re comfortable and clean. Bigger than most Paris rooms we’ve stayed in. Stayed for 3 nights during a heat wave. No AC but they provided fans. One room the fan was good; the other the fan wasn’t very strong. Noisy with windows open (which was needed this week) but quieter with them closed. Breakfast was basic but good. It was in a nice neighborhood with lots of restaurants, monoprix and a metro stop. Close to catacombs if you’re visiting that and an easy metro ride to other attractions. Would stay again but maybe not in summer unless booking close to trip to look at weather. FYI if you have mobility issues, while they have a lift to access the hotel there is still a flight of stairs. We enjoyed our stay!

Deceiving Information

The information about this hotel is not accurate. The lobby of this hotel is on the second floor and there is no elevator to get to the second floor but a narrow, curved and long staircase. If you are traveling with a heavy medium size luggage, you’re going to struggle going up the steps to just get to the lobby. And you have to do this every time you get in and out of the hotel. Even though it’s advertise a smoke free hotel, the lobby stinks of cigarette smell constantly. The elevator from the lobby to the other floors can only be used by one person at a time. There are no mini fridges or coffee makers in the less expensive rooms. And the view they advertise can only be viewed by one room on the top floor. At least the less expensive rooms are not carpeted and floors don’t look clean. Currently, there is construction on so scaffolding obstruct any view and there are loud noises starting at 8 am. No closet but a tiny area to hang 5 things. The showers leak out of the stall.
One big PRO, the location is great. Easy access to train that goes to and from the airport. Steps only from a big metro line and supermarket and restaurants very close.

Perfect spot! The metro was 4 steps from the door! There was also a grocery store and a market directly across the street. Could not ask for a better spot! Staff was super friendly and very accommodating! I would definitely stay here again.

A bit too expensive for a veeeeery small room - I'm used to European hotel rooms but this was very very small, with barely room to walk around each side of the small bed, no fridge and a tv the size of a monitor. Not sure if this would work for 2 adults. I understand it was expensive because of the Olympics but we checked other hotels when we got there and there were plenty of other options. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the location is great, with access to shops and transport.

Great location, tiny room, thin walls, warm.

Great location and value in central Paris, just a stone's throw from the Catacombs. 30 min by train to more touristy spots like the Eiffel tower. You have to give up your room key every time you leave, which was a bit odd. No AC. Can't really keep the window open because of noise, and the fan is rigged so that you can only use the lowest setting. The built in hair dryer was broken, and I asked for a replacement. They said they would check into it and never brought one. A room adjacent to ours complained about noise and we were only talking in normal indoor voices. Thin walls, or an overly sensitive human, I don't know. Either way, nice cafes just across the way and not bad for a value stay for a couple days in Paris.

Some of the staff were really friendly, very polite and eager to help out.
Breakfast was far more expensive than just going to local cafe or bakery for croissants.
We had to ask repeatedly for more pillows (1 each isn’t enough!).
Generally clean and the place was cleaned each day and fresh towels.
The room was smaller than the pictures suggest, but the bed was very comfortable. Quite firm but just right for us. Wouldn’t recommend for someone over about 6’2” as doubt you’d fit on the toilet!
Generally a very positive experience and the hotel feels safe with a 24-hour reception and double front doors and a lift.
There is a narrow stairway to reception so not suitable for those with mobility issues.
Thank you to the kind lady on reception who looked after our bags for a few hours on the final day.

Pictures on Expedia are a bit misleading. It’s not a bad place, but it’s definitely showing a lot more wear and tear than the pictures show. The entrance to the hotel is not attractive at all. There’s trash on the sidewalk outside the doors, and the area is a bit run down. That said, it doesn’t appear to be an unsafe area. We were there 5 days and never ran into issues with anyone.

Also on the entrance, you find out the hard way the welcome desk is on the second floor, and there’s no elevator! Making things worse is the stairway to the front desk is very narrow and fairly steep. Lugging a heavy suitcase up the stairs is a real challenge. My wife wouldn’t have been able to do it since she’d just had knee surgery.

The front desk staff are very friendly and very helpful. They assisted the person who presented the morning continental-style breakfast, who was incredibly friendly and helpful! She was flawless every morning. She alone made up for the shortcomings I described.

All in all it wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t stay there again. The entrance and stairs alone are a deal breaker.

Excellent location near RER B and métro. Very friendly staff, arranged for our early check in at noon instead of 2pm. Rooms are small and storage limited, so not ideal when you have a lot of luggage. There is a flight of stairs to reach reception, then an elevator to the other floors.

Close ground transportation. Literally you open the hotel door and you have access to the train station. Restaurants and stores to buy anything you need are around the hotel. Super friendly people in the hotel. Rooms are small. They don't have air conditioning but they have a fun which we found enough to get the air in the room cooler. Great location!

Great place, great people, great location.

Great place to stay. Staff were excellent very friendly and helpful with extras like printing out train tickets for us. Rooms are small but very clean and well laid out.
You need to climb 1 narrow flight of stairs to get to reception. Then a small elevator can be used from there.
Excellent location, catacombs across the street, restaurants of all sorts within a block. Subway and buses within 2 minutes.
Looking forward to staying here again.

I stayed at Hotel du Lion in Paris for almost a week and loved every minute of it. The facilities are excellent, very clean and modern, supplying for all your needs. The staff will go the extra mile to help in any extra way they can. I found a laundry room to iron my clothes, there was hot water for coffee and tea around the clock, and a great view from my window in the intersection of Denfert-Rochereau. The room was surprisingly quiet at night, and very well heated. I loved that I could open my windows for fresh air.

But the main highlight was the staff. They were absolutely amazing, from the owner, Mr. Nicolas, who is the sweetest man with the most contagious smile, to the director at reception, also Nicolas, who is this dashing, handsome Johnny Depp-look alike (a better, younger version), and who is also the friendliest and most helpful with advice or touristic tips, to the ladies who staff the reception desk at night, also amazing. The man who runs this business knows that the human touch is the thing that will make a good hotel experience amazing, so thank you so much to all the people at Hotel du Lion who added so much to my Paris experience by just being there with their generous smiles and good hearts. And I'm sure it's not just a European thing. There is something special about Hotel du Lion. Go there and see for yourself, and say hi to my friends there for me. :)

I stayed at the Hotel du Lion for six nights in September 2019 and found it to be of incomparable convenience and value. I booked the hotel online some months in advance, and in so doing, was able to secure a rate of less than $100 per night - unheard of in Paris. The room would be considered spartan by American standards, but had all of the conveniences I needed. Besides, I didn’t come to Paris to sit in a hotel room. The location was terrific with the Metro and RER being steps from the hotel entrance. The view I had looked onto an intersection and that alone provided hours of entertainment. And yet, despite being a second floor room on a busy street, it was surprisingly quiet. The management even contacted me prior to my stay to advise me of pre-booking popular attractions and to ask if there was anything I needed to make my stay more enjoyable. I had only two minor complaints. One was that there was no bracket for holding the water wand for the shower and the other was that the WiFi had occasional problems. The breakfast could have also included some meat slices. Otherwise, a perfect place to stay for a budget minded traveler. Highly recommended!

Great little find.

Great location steps from metro #4 and #6 lines as well as the RER to to the airports. Couldn’t beat the location for quick access into the heart of town. Great neighborhood with restaurants, Catacombs and WWII museum across the street. Very happy with our stay.

If I had to stay any longer the shower would have become an issue. Luckily I am not a large person otherwise I would have not got into it

Very close to the train station (RER B, 4, 6) and many restaurants and shops on Rue Daguerre. Very convenient to get around in Paris. The staff is friendly and available even late in the evening. Both Nicolas were especially helpful. The room is clean, quiet but small. However I didn’t plan to to spend much time in the room anyway. I would definitely stay here again next time I’m in Paris.

Although this was an older hotel, it has been renovated and refurbished to modern standards.
The only downside to this is that the rooms and bathrooms are very small.
Otherwise, the management and staff have done their utmost to provide a clean and welcoming environment.
The breakfast at the hotel was also very good.

The hotel is at a convenient location. Both RER and subway are right next to the hotel. And the room rate is okay. There are supermarkets and a few restaurants nearby. Not a fancy area but it's safe, relatively quiet and clean. There is no elevator to the reception floor but that doesn't really bother us because we don't have a lot of luggage. At the time we visited Paris, it was kind of cold at night and we needed some hot water for drinking. There was no electric kettle in the room but there is a hot water machine at the reception level and the staff was willing to help us get some. The room is not modern but clean and simple. The window can be opened to get some fresh air. The beds are comfortable. When you go out, you have to leave the key to the reception. We are totally fine with that since they have long hour reception and we don't need to worry about losing the key somewhere. The only thing that does bother me is, there is no exhaust fan in the restroom and shower room of our room (not sure if it's the same for other rooms). Overall, we have a pleasant stay and enjoyed our time in Paris.

A surprisingly good hotel

My usual hotel near Denfert-Rochereau was booked up, so I went with Hotel du Lion, and it turned out to be a good move. Comfortable room with nice air circulation, great location (for RER B to CDG esp) with 2 Metro lines just 5 steps to the hotel entrance. Only thing -- you do need to climb a narrow set of stairs to get to the hotel lobby (there's an internal lift/elevator once you get there), so be warned if you have luggage or have mobility concerns. Other thing -- the cleaning is a bit shoddy, as I found a used towel with wine stains and hair on it... But overall a good place for that part of Paris, so I'd recommend it.

Great hotel in great location

The hotel is very well located, it is clean and modern. The personnel are fantastic. As good as you can get in Paris. The only problem is that the walls are thin, so it can be very noisy sometimes. When the cleaning service starts you have to wake you like it or not.

Good value and easy transport links to the door

With a Metro right outside the front door it's great for getting into town. It's a little too far to walk though so you won't be as likely to use the hotel as a base - more as a place to sleep.

The restaurant area looks more like a hostel canteen so I ate across the road at a traditional French cafe which was brilliant. There are a number of shops and restaurants around and lots of transport links.

I wouldn't hesitate to go back here - the staff were friendly and the room was clean (though very small). I was on my own though, so I was fine with a smaller room - it was just a bed for the night. The bed was firm and comfortable, the shower was good and lots of hot water. The wifi was very good even though I was on the top floor.

I rated the hotel at the top end but without raving about it. That's not a criticism, it's not setting out to be the Ritz, but what it does do it does well.

I was very upset upon arrival.Pics don't depict hotel.There are 25 steps to reach the lobby and no Bellhop. Dtr & I had to carry up our 50# suitcases and carry-ons.The clerk was very nice but unable to assist due to being pregnant.The elevator to rooms holds 3 people, so we had to go up 1 at a time.The halls were dark and scary.Rooms were scare of decor.Bedding was basic but clean.TV with 1 english channel, safe didn't work.Staff-only the pregnant clerk helped us the 1st night with Tv, but after 1 hour no english channel & other staff after 1st night would not help me.Left messages for manager to contact me-didn't happen.No sprinkler sys. in rooms/halls only had fire hose connections & fire extinguisher at end of hall.Lighting goofy, limited elec.outlets.They requested leaving the key with clerk when leaving. (I wouldn't).The area was lovely, lively, young and near public trans., many restaurants/stores. I will never stay there again or recommend this hotel. The only reason I didn't give the lowest ratings was due to the pregnant clerk being very helpful, the location and it was clean. We had clean sheets/rooms/towels daily and the air conditioner worked.

Worst hotel ever

I travel a lot for work. This hotel is the worst I have ever had the unfortunate experience of staying in. We booked because we had a late flight in and a 7:30 meetup for a tour. Hotel de Liin was right across the street. Reviews were good. What were these people thinking. There is another hotel de lion. I believe there is some mixup. First, staff were unwelcoming and could not answer one question. If you said room was hot. They said it was hot outside. If you said wi fi drops every second, they said I dunno maybe all your phones. Room was around 95 degrees. Linen was so scratchy, felt like Brillo pad. Last nite there, walked into hotel at nite and man at front desk yelled at us. No hi or welcome, just \"why didn't you leave key at front desk. I lock door st might. You should be locked out!\" I don't think I need to say anymore about the stay at this hotel...

My stay was for 10 days and I found the hotel to be everything I expected. Clean, close to restaurants, close to the metro and RER. My room was #66 and quite large with a view of the Eiffel Tower. However, I think my room was the exception as the other rooms appeared to be smaller. The staff were wonderful and English was not a problem.

Luckyly I arrived at 9pm and found a message on the door telling me to go to the next hotel to pick my key there as the hotel do not have receptionist in the evening; I saw a few days later in my mail box a message from the hotel that the second hotel was closing at 11 pm, otherwise I could have been in the street without possibility to check my mail. When we are on holidays in summer, we are not always check-in emails.
Anyway a letter was ready with all explanation inside, the key and the door number digicode access, it was fine.
I put \"DND\" on the back but they went to clean the room on the second day, it seems that they did not respect it.
We have a nice view on the lake and just 3 minutes to touch the water. Fantastic location.

it was pleasant - the only thing is you have to take two flight of stairs to go to the reception - McDonalds is two doors over and has great Americano coffee and croissant - great bargain

Staff at hotel very pleasant and helpful. Excellent location to experience life in Paris - cafes for breakfast, lunch, casual dinner. Metro are just steps from hôtel; good bus transport available to interesting sites such as Luxembourg Gardens, Sorbonne, Cluny Muséum, Catacombs and other Left Bank tourist sites These locations are also walkable within around 20 minutes. Direct RER train/bus to Orly and Roissy CDG airports a few minutes from hotel.

Metro B line to CDG was the main reason I chose this location. Metro system across the road made getting anywhere very easy!
Catacombs on the square, but unfortunately was booked up during our stay.Room and balcony were quite small but very fresh and clean! Stairs up to reception with luggage was a bit difficult, thankfully there was a lift from the 1st floor up!
Would have liked tea/coffee facilities in the room. Good staff and lots of very good restaurants around!

Perfect stay on our last night in Paris

My fiancee and I stayed at this hotel on our last night in Paris after 6 weeks traveling Europe.
The service was really great, with the hotel staff assisting us with our luggage and a larger taxi to the airport. Our room overlooked the square, and a view of the Lion statue in the place de Denfert-Rochereau; we even had a distant view of the Eiffel Tower. The neighborhood is a fantastic area, across from the entrance to the Catacombs, with plenty of restaurants and bars and the Metro stop right outside the door.
The only drawback was the entry - it required going up one flight of stairs to check in at the hotel concierge, but otherwise, the lift was available from there up to the other floors.
We would stay here again, for sure!

Clean rooms, but not for the disable

The hotel and room is clean, and the neighborhood is easy to commute via metro to the airport. However, it is not suitable for disable people. There is a flight of staircase leading to the hotel, before you can then use its lift to get to your room. The male staffs there were pretty nice and friendly, however, the female staffs can be rather inattentive and rude to a certain extent. I do got charged for lousy breakfast at about 10 euro per breakfast, thus, eating outside is certainly recommended.

No Ground Floor Lift, No Booking

Overall, this is a good hotel. First, one should note however that the elevator begins at the 1st floor. You must get your luggage up a narrow staircase and there is no help. Second, the hotel entrance and our rooms faced Gen. Ave. Leclerc and is quite noisy. The cafes below and across the street stay open late and the metro/RER station is around the corner. This street is a main road so be prepared to listen to a lot of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at all hours. And don't forget the drunks! I intentionally chose it due to the proximity to the station but had no idea about the elevator situation. Next time I will make sure there is a ground floor elevator before booking.

Good value and convenient for the RER.

Business meant I needed to be close to the rer up to CDG. Perfect for that, neighbourhood OK, staff very friendly. Quiet up on the 8th floor but beware the edge of the sink unit; caught it with my leg getting into the shower.

Great if you're on a budget but nothing special

Value was good for the money however I would've liked a little more security upon arrival and collecting my key on returning every day; I was not once asked for any ID which gave me cause to question the security of the building though nothing actually happend to.

The room itself, though small had the very basics; bed, shower, toilet, etc, but none of the little niceties likes a kettle with tea/coffee or even glasses to drink water from.

Good location for getting to and from airports

The hotel location was good--about a 20 minute walk to Notre Dame, and the blue B metro line is literally right outside the front door, which made getting to the Charles de Gaulle airport for an early flight in the morning a breeze. The rooms are on the small side, but not as small as others we've seen in Paris. One complaint is that the shower is extremely small. I'm a very petite person, and it was pretty cramped to take a shower, even for me. Overall, it was a good, affordable hotel in a good location.

Decent place in bland part of city

This is a good budget option in a part of Paris that has little to offer to tourists. The exterior, stairway and reception (first floor) are dull and scruffy and there is a large noisy cafe on the ground floor. But rooms are functional but clean, warm and quiet. And the cafe was a good breakfast option. Metro station literally outside hotel with 25 minute ride to Chatelet

clean, modern rooms

As Paris 2* hotels go, the rooms in the Lion are clean, modern, well appointed (recently refurbished) and we'll insulated from the road noise outside. Staff polite. It's a good ten mins south of the river on the RER B but well situated on metro/RER lines so easy to get around and about. There's a pleasant pedestrian street opposite with a market and little cafes and bars. It's also just a short walk from the attractive 5e and the 6e arrondissements, Montparnasse cemetery, and the Luxembourg Gardens. One point to note re. access: as far as I could see, the only access from street to reception on the first floor was via a flight of steps - the lift only went from the first floor up.

More room than you'd expect

I've spent plenty of time in hotel rooms in Paris and am used to being in something the size of a closet, this place thankfully is an exception, room for me and my gear and a view as well. Convenient to grocery shopping as well as restaurants and McDonalds virtually underneath. Just over a kilometre from Gare Montparnasse so easy to get to as well, a very pleasant surprise

Good location and easy to Metro and Orly

Location is on a busy roundabout, likeable for its cafes and restaurant options, not so for its noise. Hotel is very convenient to the RER and Metro, as well as the OrlyBus (30 mins to the airport). Many food options in the surrounding areas (most within 1-2 blocks). Supermarket and pharmacies are nearby as well. Cleanliness of the room was lacking. We picked up some bleach from the supermarket and cleaned the shower mold ourselves. Also, this hotel does not have in-room A/C. Due to the traffic noise from the roundabout, we were unable to open the windows at night - in mid-July. If going to the Catacombs is on your list, it is just outside the hotel. Line up before 9am to avoid a 3+hr wait.

Convenient to downtown

We were greeted in a friendly fashion by the staff, and checked in with a minimum of hassle. The room was pleasant, and there was a McDonald's next store and a tasty bakery across the street. While not a fan of McDonald's, it was convenient and cheap when in a hurry. Local restaurants were nearby, and a grocery and laundry as well. Breakfast was included and was adequate, with pleasant staff available. We enjoyed the time we were there.
City center was easily reached by Metro in a few minutes.

Very good for short stay city break

Just so that any prospective customer understands my requirements when booking a hotel for a 2 / 3 day city break - they are, in equal level of importance, Location; Value for money; Clean and Comfortable room. In all of these respects the Hotel du Lion meets and mostly exceeds my expectations. Location - excellent. You almost fall into the metro station from the hotel entrance, and then six stops into central Paris. It can also be walked in about 30 mins. The Hotel is in a lively area with plenty of shops, cafes and bars all within minutes of the hotel (see location things to do). The room tariff is very reasonable (not cheap - this is Paris!) and the room, though basic, meets my minimum requirement and is clean.
