the staff and the food are as always wonderful. It's an older property and could use some minor plumbing repairs, it all worked well, but you can tell it's seen better days.
The location is very nice and the beach one of the best to be had.
We will be heading back again next year to do it all again.

We were at ElCozumeleno in the 2000's and had a great time. What a difference this time. The place is rundown and not managed very well. The hot tubs were bubbling green foam. Charging $40 jf you check in early is rediculous when there isn't anyone in line. The bed linen was illfitted the towels were gray. The food had nothing desirable. A real dissappointment.

Honest review from middle class Canadian: it’s definitely a 3 star resort and I’m sure years ago it was a beautiful resort. It’s very authentic Mexican.
Pros: all the staff there were very helpful, kind and answered any of my questions. Drinks were good, three bars(swim up bar too), pools were nice, generally clean, staff were always cleaning but also hard to clean when some things are falling apart and people are messy. Beach was great, you could swim in clear water, no water shoes needed. So many cool fish to see. Free snorkeling gear. But also the long pier was nice to walk down and we saw 6 different kinds of fish.
Cons- our room was very old dated, smelly. There may be nicer rooms. Stairs falling apart. And worst part was the birds all over the buffet nonstop, standing in the food, stealing food and pooping everywhere in buffet. And the food was bad, same food everyday for every meal, except omelettes at breakfast. It wasn’t good food either. Even pineapple unsafe as bird pooped on it. But nobody seemed to care…there was a stage for nightly entertainment but they stopped it years ago. Nothing goes on in the evening.
Overall- it was the worst resort I’ve stayed at. However, I see all these wonderful reviews about it, so that confuses me. But if you get it super cheap, and are there for warm weather, beach and pool then you might be ok. Me personally, I won’t be back, as I don’t want to pay any amount of money to be stay there.

Great beach& the pools are excellent. Our room in the building we were in needed updates. The room was large & simply furnished. The toilet didn’t flush initially, but they came upon request & fixed it. The buffet was ok. The staff were great - helpful & friendly. I’d stay here again.

I stayed for 3 weeks. My airconditioning in the room worked well, my shower was hot and had great water pressure, the buffet was almost always open if we were hungry and the staff was great. It isn't a high end hotel but I have no regrets about staying there. There is no evening entertainment, there are no stools at the bar to sit, they have limited activities, they run out of towels, but for the money it was worth it. Would i stay there again? No....I would pay a little more for a better place.

Overall 9/10, main drawback is check-in, which takes a really long time.

We’ve been coming here for years (2009, 2011, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2023), and the food was noticeably improved this trip. Ordering off the menu is still the way to go if the buffet doesn’t have what you’d like. The buffet is average all-inclusive food, but the flattop grill had something decent for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not the best food we’ve had, but far from the worst.

The grounds show some wear, but the staff works hard to maintain them. Rooms are dated and beds are firm, but we’re barely in the room anyway. Our AC worked great (almost too well), and the TV wasn’t great but not a big deal for us.

The biggest highlight is snorkeling right out front, lots of fish. We would walk to the tidal pool before the Westin and drift back with the current, you’ll see more fish this way. If you’re more adventurous, enter at the Westin, Buccanos or the old condos and float back. I’d use a dive flag or buoy if you choose this route.

The staff truly stands out here, welcoming, kind, and attentive. Aldo, Kevin, Omar, Juan, Yaneth, Santiago, and Paulino were great. The activities team (Cesar, Angel, Leo, Michel) were awesome, and our son loved the kids club.

Big picture, if you expect a 5-star luxury resort, you’ll probably be disappointed. But if you understand what the El Cozumeleno is, take advantage of the pros, and don’t plan to spend a ton of time in your room, you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised.

The resort itself is ok averge for most things. However, the beds are very stiff, and it's impossible to get decent sleep. We went with a group of 6 people, between four rooms. Our rooms were all on different floors and everyone had the same compliant about the beds. Wifi rarely worked, and if it did, it was incredibly slow. Honestly, we gave up and didn’t connect to it most of our 10-day stay. The food was ok but was the same things pretty much every day.
There is no refrigerator in your rooms, so bringing anything back to the hotel rooms was difficult. Especially if you wanted to keep drinks cold. The AC didn't work in our room, but our friends' rooms did.
The staff are friendly but more approachable depending on how well you tip. Overall, we don't regret staying there but personally would not stay there again.

They really need to work on maintenance on the north building, the food is ok once you figure out what is good. The beach at this hotel is the best for snorkeling. Don't expect entertainment, there is nothing by the resort in the evenings. Expect to kick back and relax.

The staff is amazing; the hotel itself is beautiful on the outside and the lobby area. The rooms are all in need of desperate updates. The snorkeling directly out front of the hotel is incredible. The beach is big and beautiful. As for the menu, it is limited. The omelette station is great for breakfast, use the QR code to order off the menu for lunches and be in line by 7:45am every morning to get reservations at the restaurant for dinner. The roof needs to be fixed at the beach restaurant to keep the birds out better. The drinks are good.

This property was the worst resort property I’ve ever stayed at. To start out at check-in we stood in line for over an hour. There were probably 40 people checking in at the same time and they only had two staff members. After we get to the front desk we find out there was an additional resort fee of $15 per day added onto our stay. It wasn’t disclosed, when we initially purchased the package from Sun Country. The person checking us in “upgraded” us to room 317. We were supposed to have a two bed premium oceanfront room. We thought, wow, the gentleman’s being nice. The upgrade room was in the old tower. It was a large room with a king size bed that was broken in the middle. A huge divot so that you both would roll to the middle of the bed. We had a toilet that didn’t flush and a shower that didn’t work. The room smelled of mold. To top it off the air conditioner was broken. We went back to the front desk and asked for the room that we booked. They said they were sold out and it was too bad because they already gave the next a room. The lady who we spoke to was the manager her name was Fatima. She was awful. No apologies. Nothing, just suck it up. I ended up calling Expedia and they talked to the manager on the phone. They agreed to switch us to another room the next day. They would also send someone to fix the air-conditioning. Five hours later at about 9 PM, they showed up to fix the air conditioner. Granted my girlfriend and I have been up since 3 o’clock the prior morning

Ocean was beautiful, the suite ocean front room we got was outdated, no frame work in the room, TV was super small, room smelled, food was limited. Bare minimum, the water notes were painted red for hot blue for cold, vent in the bathroom was a window fan that was wired into the switch. No fridge, charged for safety amenities like the safe and with today's issues that should be given not charged. No ATM onsite to be able to tip the staff. Website stated free wifi and that was a lie, they charged for wifi. Plugs in the room would shock and spark when charging phone. Could not reserve dinner at the only restaurant. Rat was walking on the beams of the buffet. The owner needs to update that place. Only thing nice was the beach.

Don’t arrive early and expect to be able to use the facility without paying $40 a person. Mattresses are old and hard, pillows are horrible, and food is less desirable! They only have one other restaurant other than the buffet which can’t handle the amount of guests so finding a seat to eat in the buffet is very hard and to get a reservation in the very small extra restaurant is a challenge. There are a lot of wonderful resorts on the island so coming back to this one is probably not gonna happen.

The staff were amazing, the hotel very clean, but, it was old and falling apart. We waited 3+ hours to check in. Upon check in, maintenance was scraping off parts of the ceiling that were falling off. I was charged an extra $100 hidden fee upon check in and I have no idea why. Another person also said there were hidden fees they paid as well. There are no amenities or snacks available. They are very strict on food times 7am to 11pm, again no snacks, no granola bars, chips, crackers or bottles of water available. We had to refill our 2 allowed water bottles per day at only 1 water station outside the hotel. No mini fridge or microwave in the rooms. Pool & surrounding was very clean and sanitized daily. Overall, disappointing and we will never go back.

They don’t offer a refrigerator for your room, they make you rent one, no water was offered, you had to buy it at the front desk. When asked to have a water while waiting in line at the front desk they said they didn’t have any water available but water was sitting right behind the desk. After receiving the refrigerator we had to rent, the staff plugged in the refrigerator and it started an electrical fire in our room. We asked to be moved to a different room and they didn’t want to accommodate the request for some reason but did only after demanding we be moved. Nonetheless, we ended up booking a different hotel. Sadly I’ve never stayed at a resort this poor before. There are. Better places to stay for the same money. Don’t book this resort.

Room was clean and old but as expected, no air for 3 days even after several attempts to have it fixed. Buffet at breakfast is okay, lunch and supper is pretty poor. QR code menu is very good and was our go-to for meals. Specialty restaurant has potential. Some staff were amazing (Kevin at the swim up bar, activities staff and some waitstaff) others very rude, especially the front desk staff. I get they take the complaints constantly and I’m sure are tired of hearing negative things but rudeness from moment one when checking in doesn’t give a good first impression. Overall beach is wonderful and pools great.

Sadly we will never see a need to return. Many positive reviews are false as we found by 6 am all beach chairs and poolside taken so we left the resort daily to go to local beach clubs. The food was horrible so we went out for breakfast lunch and dinner daily. We are not high maintenance at all but this resort is a 0 to a low 1 starvat absolute best

There are a lot of mixed reviews on The Cozumeleno Beach Resort, and I can understand both sides. It is a bit of a dated property with some needed upkeep/repair issues that could use tending to. I was debating whether to give 3 or 4 star for my review, but settled on the 4 because the staff is (overwhelmingly) friendly and helpful. There are several aspects of the resort that are a 3 however. The food does not measure up to that of many other all-inclusive's (this was my 6th All-Inclusive in Mexico). The buffet was often out of items, and took very long (if ever) to re-stock. If you plan to dine off-site, this wouldn't be so much of an issue, but we ate nearly every meal at the resort and it was a 3 at best.
Overall, a good experience. And because it was lower priced that the other all-inclusive resorts on Cozumel, I would recommend it for those who may be on a tighter budget or if you aren't terribly picky on food selection/quality.
But if you want a higher end all-inclusive experience, and food is of high importance to you, then I would suggest a higher rated place.

The staff were amazing! Everyone was kind and attentive to all of our requests! Check in system is very slow and was challenging after a long day of travel. Buffets were good and the kids loved the food! Sit down dinner we only went 1 time because reservations were hard to get for our big group and the food was just ok. Activities were minimal but Cesar was fun and tries to get everyone involved! Beach was beautiful and secluded! Taxi service was fast and easy, 20 usd per ride to town. We loved our time at El Cozumeleno! For a more budget friendly all inclusive option we would highly recommend! Make your own fun at this beautiful property! El Coz has so much character!

When we first arrived, we were a little shocked with our room. It is not what is depicted in the photos. This hotel has been “touched-up” far too long, and is in need of a proper doing-over. That being said, once we accepted that our room wasn’t what we thought (towels are very old, bedsheets are very worn and sometimes stained) and the beds are well-worn in as well, we decided to make the most of it. We’re happy we did. The hotel is clean, the food is delicious. It takes a long time to get the food if you order it, and the buffet is very small. Do not expect a buffet like you would at a big named resort. This hotel is locally owned. It seems to generate a lot of income, but that income should be used to do some updating and repairs. We had 4 staff members that really went above and beyond for us. We adored them. In the dining area, it was Ruby, José and Alejandro. At the tourism desk, Roberto was lovely and very helpful. The beach is amazing, and the snorkelling was way beyond our expectations. Overall, we did enjoy our stay, and, if the price is right, we would go again.

The property has really gone down. I’ve gone to this same resort since 2017 almost yearly. They don’t have as many activities but the activity staff are great. The food took way longer to get if you ordered off the menu they didn’t understand what you were ordering. They only brought you half of your things and one time I was told no.. the restaurant is no longer open for breakfast. There was coffee stains outside our door when we arrived they were still there the day we left. so they didn’t mop the hallways once while we were there in seven days. I still love the beach and snorkeling but I’m going to look for a new resort

Overall, our trip was okay. Good weather & good food. The frustration was on the first day, with checking in; we arrived by shuttle from the airport by 230pm (note: check-in time on website stated 3pm). While at the counter, I was charged an additional $300 for a minor because our 3rd family member was not an “infant”, this was not stated on the website, plus an additional deposit fee. The process of checking in & obtaining room key and verifying our id’s/passports took over 1 hour & receptionist informed us that our room was not ready. It was close to 5pm before we were able to get into our room! When asked about any compensation, I was ignored & the question was dismissed (and again the following days when following up regarding this). This was extremely frustrating after traveling all day. Prior to leaving for our trip, numerous attempts to contact the hotel were made to request early check-in & “pre-register” but received no response. The rooms were outdated & need updates, shower leaked onto bathroom floor, during our stay there was a sewage backup & you could feel the springs in the bed. The food was good, it is buffet style so you could wait in line for up to 20min for something from the grill, many of the selection was gone or not replaced during mealtime. Drinks were good but the full drink menu was not available to all visitors. Hot tub was cold. Beach was beautiful, but be careful of sharp rocks. Hint: don’t take shuttle($$)walk outside of airport & get taxi!

Would not recommend this place under any circumstances due to terrible upkeep, total lack of customer service, and biased treatment of guests by the manager JULIO.

We were a group of 10 booked under one reservation with rooms that were all THE SAME PRICE. Manager chose to upgrade every room in the group EXCEPT the only pair that didn’t include a male. JULIO clearly told staff to give the women a double bed room which had a ring of grime around the tub and sink, hair all over the bathroom floor, trash under the bed and stains on the wall. When the women asked for a king bed they were told none were available even though they were the second room assigned out of 5. After the rest of our group checked in, we found out everyone else in the group had all been given “free upgrades” with king beds.

The room given to the women was considerably dirtier, lower quality, and generally more disgusting than rooms given to others in the group, though the entire place was questionable. After over two hours of politely stating our case the women were finally given a new room with a more comfortable king bed.

It rained in the night, flooding several first floor rooms (we could see them being squeegeed out as we left), and putting the elevators out of order. Two members of our group had to walk up 7 stories to retrieve luggage and drag it down the stairs again.

Confronted JULIO the next day with what we felt was biased treatment. He was unapologetic and couldn’t care less.

The resort was clean and the staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The snorkelling was wonderful right off the beachfront. The pool area was large, lovely, and well maintained with an insufficient number of chairs and loungers. Unfortunately, our room shared an interior door with the adjacent room, and several nights were disturbed by loud music and an inconsolable screaming child, issues the staff did attempt to address. The food was tasty and could have offered more variety over our two week stay.

I don't usually do reviews but this needs attention. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our room. Pools were nice and large. Leo and Cesar in activities were great. So much so that my son remembered Leo from 2 years ago. Waiters Aldo and Aljeondro were true professionals and the highlight of this property. That is were the pleasantries end. Room to large with rock hard beds. No AC available had to argue with staff to get a fan. Bath had a mild dew smell to it. We were in the older section so hopefully the newer section is better. There is a serious lack of pride in the resort ie cigarette butts on the pool deck, pool deck has trash on it from the day before, sand/trash on the steps and maintenance walking by it as they were staining railing.

HORRIBLE DO NOT STAY HERE. SO OLD and bed is like CONCRETE. I should have believed the reviews and stayed somewhere nice and just spent the money. Our room was disgusting. Old, moldly wet spots on the ceiling, AC spitting out dust, shower looked like a prison cell. We traveled with our 16-month-old son and nothing was kid friendly. The balcony has bars so far apart he could slip though, so dangerous. The crib provided was doll sized and had a broken leg, had to get a 2nd one, mattress has yellow urine stains and our sheets had blood spots, so disgusting. Waited at the front desk 2 hours just to check in and asked someone for food after traveling wigg to our toddler and no one would help us. He slipped and cut his lip open on all the wet tile and I ran around the resort trying to find ice. Staff were mostly rude and seemed irritated in the restaurant. The buffet was so gross, food sat out for many hours. Drinks were watered down and sugary. One high chair for the entire resort it was a joke. Pool and ocean front gorgeous but the resort is SO GROSS. I beg you don’t stay here. I’ve never seen such an old room. The shower pressure was a small trickle 1/10 pressure, not kidding. Asked someone for help at the desk, would not help us. FOOD IS AWFUL. The hotel is trash and nobody cared. They make money only because the beach is beautiful and ocean waters are clean and blue. 0 star resort, 5 star beach/oceanfront. This was a trip for our 5 year wedding anniversary, total joke. Sad.

Our room, the bed mattress was old and sunk on the left and right, high peak in middle, ocean view was good, trying to find a chairs to relax around the pools, hard to get as people put towels down 430 a.m or earlier. No phones in the room to call front desk in case of emergency. The reservation for the one restaurant was very poor, white wine was like vinegar, chicken break was very difficult to cut. After check out, they didn't even ask how our stay was. The part of the resort was the waiting staff that worked there ass off....will not be going to this resort again.

The hotel was the worse I’ve ever stayed in.. staff was not friendly and hospitality was horrible… we waited one hour to check in… when we got to our room our door was broken and door knob was falling … the sheets had stains, the shower had a lot of mold !! No entertainment and just not very happy about food either … we had to wait for half hour to get our food @ the restaurant that needed “reservation” .. one week stayed and only Pedro the chef and Roger the waiter treated us right , because not even the general manager did!! I hated that we had to carry our safe key around too

This seemed like an older property, but was clean, had friendly staff, and had one of the best beaches in the area. The snorkeling is amazing right on the property; better than some excursions honestly.

The downfall (for us) was the food. It definitely was ok, but the options were not great. We went downtown a couple days and treated ourselves to better than what was available on the resort.

Bottom line is this property has a fantastic beach with awesome snorkling, but not great buffett options. For us, we will definitely stay here again because the beach and snorkeling are so worth it. Food can be gotten elsewhere if you dont care for the buffet.

Food was delicous. If you are on a budget and want an all inclusive this is the place to go. I would definitely come back again.

Room and snorkeling was the good part. We stayed on the ninth floor so the room had a great view and lots of room. Very outdated. They mislead you on your website by stating “ room service” “ stocked fridge”
Those we’re not true. Food was horrible except for the reservable restaurant which was ok. Supposedly you can order off the menu in the regular dining room but depends who you ask. We could one day. But others we were told “no”. Most of the staff was rude and inattentive. Checkin took forever even though we were second in line and did the online pre check. Most of staff we encountered did not speak much English. We will go back to Cozumel but will find someplace else to stay!

Excellent location, nice beach area. Good snorkeling right in front of the resort. Unfortunately, the wind came up on the second day and blew the sargassum on to the beach, but that's not the resorts fault. The food at the buffet was typical buffet food. The a la carte restaurant was very good but only got to eat there once in 3 days. The thing I would like to see the resort address is allowing people to \"reserve\" loungers and palapas overnight. I accept getting up early in the morning and going to get a spot but letting people leave their things overnight and keeping a spot indefinitely should not be allowed. The people doing it should be ashamed of themselves because it is rude and inconsiderate. Everyone should have equal opportunity to use the facilities.

We had a wonderful time at El Coz. Staff is super friendly, beach and snorkeling are fantastic. Morning omelets are great. If you don’t like what’s in the buffet you can order from the dining room. Rooms are a bit weathered but they are clean. This was our 4th stay at El Coz. If you are looking for fancy don’t stay here. But if you are looking for a low key, fantastic beach, budget friendly vacation, this is a great place to stay.

We had a really good time! It was our first time to the island and everyone is friendly and very attending. Resort was really nice. Our room was a little dated and the beds were hard(but we are spoiled at home with a sleep # bed), But overall nice. We had an amazing waiter that treated us like royalty! Aldo! He was the best! We were a little disappointed that there wasn't any entertainment at night but that was ok because a short $10 taxi ride to downtown will get you lots of great entertainment! Probably the most frustrating thing was it took well over an hour to check in. I was hot and ready to be on vacation and it seemed like it took forever. But I wouldn't let that stop me from staying again.

The room was clean but dated, paint chipping, moldy a/c vent, damp smell, door didn’t properly seal and deadbolt did not work. The shower door rail was broken so door didn’t slide. The rooms do not come with mini bars unless you book the sky premium suite, that room does have a minibar but it comes EMPTY, it’s 18USD daily for them to restock it with three beers three sodas and two snacks, this alone should tell the customer the type of property this is.

Check in took 1:22 hours even when they had multiple ppl working they just use an archaic way of paper and carbon copy system.

The restaurant only had 3 high chairs for toddlers but during my stay there were at least 12 kids who used them so a lot of parents waited or ate with a toddler on their lap. The food was repetitive, spaghetti, fish filet, chicken with bone, they only changed the sauce on top for variety

I’ve stated in multiple all inclusive resorts in the Mexican Caribbean and this is by far the worst customer service, quality, and attention, they would have to be a lot cheaper to justify their sub par quality

The rooms are very outdated. The customer service is sub par. Stood in line for an hour and a half to check in (after we did the precheck on line). My husbands key never worked he took it to the desk and they tried to reprogram 7 times never worked. So he left it up at the desk. When we went to check out they said they didnt have it and tried to charge me for it . Wait staff was awesome!!!

Staff was great. Beside front desk and managment. Food was exactly the same day after day all three meals. Bed was a rock and old as is the rooms. Needs some much needed love and attention before I we will go back again. This was our 4th stay here and its gone down hill. Front desk was like talking to robots. Went three days without a safe because the lock was broke and no one at the front desk would do anything beside put my room number down with nothing being done. Yes that all the front desk can do but the 4rd day I waited for the guest service managment. He was on a over 1 hour breakfast break. I sit there looking at the front desk. One of the front desk people came out and grabbed a new lock and key out of that desk and gave it to someone to replace. Spent a good portion of that morning after already telling them three days in a row it needed fix. Having to sit right there till they decided I wasnt leaving. Then it got fixed. I payed to be there without that much time doing the job I payed you to do. Dont stay here its falling apart. Lots of people we talked to had to change rooms. Because managment is not doing the upkeep needed for a resort. Its in sad shape. They have loads of day campers that the staff makes sure is taken care of. Guess if that what is important then became a beach resort. Not the hotel resort you are. Besides the other service people were all great. Besides front desk and hotel managment. That is the biggest failure I have ever seen at a resort.

An older resort with a great beach and staff. Rooms need remodeling but are clean. All inclusive meal are just ok but we normally ate out at nights. Check in/out was simple with no surprises. Dive shop onsite which is excellent.
In short, I can’t complain about the bang for the dollar but if your expectations are high, search elsewhere.

This was our second year in a row staying here. The staff on the most part is friendly and tries their best to do a good job. Language can still be an issue. Our person who cleaned our room did a very good job. Overall, they had cut their staff from last year, and this put a lot on the existing staff. The food was not as good as last year. It was mostly greasy and under cooked often, and it even made us ill and a few other people that we talked to were ill as well. They list the amenities on the website and in their brochures, and what you Expedia list as well, and many of what they list they do not have. This did not bother me so much last year as the weather was better, but if they actually had had some of the listed amenities they would have been much appreciated this year. One of those amenities is nightly entertainment. They did not have that last year, nor this year. Also, the upkeep of the building is deteriorating very badly. It is a beautiful area, but upkeep needs more attention.

The hotel room was a complete let down and reason we would not return anytime soon. The bed was horrific, it was too hard and the bedding was stained and very old.

Room was in fair condition. Beds were hard, however the mattress topper that we requested helped some. Would be nice to have a mini fridge to keep drinks cold in room. Staff was friendly, helpful and overall amazing! Pools and view is beautiful! Good would be better if there was more of a variety on different days. Alcohol was not impressive, bottom shelf.

Amazing views, wonderful staff, delicious food. The resort is a bit run down/ in need of some repairs but still an enjoyable stay. Great proximity to the airport. Don’t forget the fine dining restaurant is by reservation only the morning of and there are limited spots so need to get there early. That wasn’t clear when we checked in. The meals we did get to have there were great.

Overall, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the property showed its age. The couch was stained, some bathroom fixtures had rust, and one of the shower tap handles was falling off. The resort grounds were well maintained, though the pools were not heated. The beach area was moderately sized, and the ocean offered a nice swimming area.

The staff were helpful, and staffing levels were adequate, so wait times for service were reasonable. The food was good, but there wasn’t much variety. Overall, I would rate this resort a 7/10.

This property is beautiful, just outdated and aged. The staff was incredibly attentive, courteous, and pleasant. We did have some mix ups with our excursion bookings, and got different than expected jeeps, and the wrong fishing boat that had to be switched. Was disappointing but They did work this out with us. There are many things to do such as pool table, foosball, mini golf, bingo, dance lessons, etc. The staff was constantly cleaning the property and it was very clean.

We didn't stay in the room we paid for. The room we stayed in was dingy, stinky and the beds were so hard. Shower was even worse, door was broken and didn't close. The site doesn't show these rooms on their site at all. It was more like a prison cell and shower. Room didn't even have a phone to call room service and the wifi didn't work in the area of this building.
