I just love this hotel❤️ it is so close to Princes street and Waverley train station and yet it’s in a quiet safe street. From there it’s just less than 10 minutes walk to the start of the Royal Mile. My room was lovely and bright also very clean with gorgeous comfy bed 😊I can’t wait to stay at hotel indigo again

Location is great, just behind the St James shopping centre and a stones throw away from Calton Hill and also the old town (10 mins walk). The room was nice and spacious. Breakfast was good with a selection of hot food to order and a continental buffet. I would stay again.

Room was okay but starting to look tired. Staff at reception was slow and didn't connect at all with us. Couldn't find our reservation and just left us standing there for minutes without telling us what they were doing, asked to see my confirmation three times at which point I started to lose patience. We ended up in the disabled room without any explanation. Room was okay. Breakfast buffet was okay, cooked breakfast average. Porridge flavourless, poached eggs were dry. All of it was okay. Checkout was a disgrace. I checked out in the IHG app, handed the guy the roomkeys and mentioned that and the only thing he did was asking for our room number. Nothing like how was your stay, would love to see you back, what are your plans for the day. Just average, the whole thing. Shame really.

This hotel is very well placed for the Edinburgh Playhouse & other tourist attractions.
Staff are really friendly and helpful. Hotel is a lovely old building but so warm & cosy. Our room was at the back & was nice and quiet. Complimentary tea, coffee, soft drinks and water plus biscuits, tray replenished each day. Fridge in the room for the water and soft drinks.
Bed extremely comfy and bathrobes and slippers were provided.
Lovely smelling toiletries and a very powerful rain shower, didn't want to get out.
So much choice at breakfast all prepared with the best ingredients.
The hotel doesn't have a carpark but you do get a 40% discount when using the one behind the hotel.
Man on the reception, sorry can't remember his name recommended any Italian restaurant nearby. The food was so good that we ate there both nights.
I would highly recommend this hotel & will definitely stay here when we visit Edinburgh again.

Before I arrived, I received an email to say what to expect.

The Reception staff's greetings were warm and friendly. The room was spacious and extremely clean and cosy. The bed was super comfy and the shower flowed perfect with excellent temperature. Located in walking distance or short journey from all attractions.

Lovely touches in our room (premium king) included a fridge containing soft drinks, bottles of water and biscuits. My husband even received a birthday card and a whisky minature to mark his 60th birthday. Just lovely! We would definitely return.

Only flaw was the property manager that came to look at our tv (that didn’t work properly also it says it has Netflix on it however it does not) he was quite rude, dismissive and short with us when I asked about the tv. Breakfast staff were very kind and helpful there was lots of options for everyone. I wouldn’t hesitant to return to this hotel however the manager we dealt with could use an attitude adjustment

We had a lovely stay, the bed was very comfy and the contents of the fridge were free and replaced daily (including Irn Bru and caramel wafers).

The location is excellent, walking distance from all the main sites and right by a shopping centre.

Our one complaint is the tv wasn't a smart tv so if you need to catch up on the latest episode of the traitors, you're in trouble!

The location of the hotel was ideal for us with everything we did within walking distance.The tram stop down the road handy for visiting the Royal yacht and back and for to the airport. Plenty of places to eat,and drink around too.
We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and had something different every day. All staff were always pleasant and helpful. My husband asked on reception if it was possible to have another hole put in his belt, reception contacted the maintenance man and he did it, no problem. We had quite a laugh with him about it. After checking out we were able to leave our luggage at the hotel and enjoy another day out before our flight home. On returning to collect our luggage we sat and waited for an hour or so before leaving and enjoyed a cup of tea which was very welcome. Staff were brilliant and so friendly.
The room was great, some nice little touches like earplugs and the fridge topped up daily. I would say the bedding wasn't as soft as I would've liked but thats a minor issue.
We did find the air freshener as soon as we walked into the hotel quite overpowering but again a minor issue.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would be more than happy to stay again. We would definitely recommend it. 🌟

We booked Hotel Indigo lass than an hour from check in, Andrew and the rest of the staff were scoping and accommodating, they turned our Edinburgh experience around so fast. Rooms were very comfortable and cozy, great location for our needs. Can not say enough good things about this establishment.

Breakfast was of very good quality and lovely gentleman serving. So helpful. Hotel is in an amazing position if going to the playhouse for a concert. Tram stop literally 40 paces from hotel. STAY HERE!

Beautiful \"Off the beaten path\" hotel! Close to a lot of tourist spots without the congestion. Twenty minute walk to the Castle. Staff is AMAZING!!! They are extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delish. Would definitely recommend staying here.

The one issue is that a taxi cannot pick you up or drop you off outside the property. But staff are happy to call a taxi and it collects you avout 100 metres away at the corner.

This place worked great for our overnight in Edinburgh. Staff at check in was very helpful. We had a 4am leave to the airport and they set up a taxi for us - no problem. Easy walk to tons of pubs and restaurants. Room we had was small but we were only there for a few hours so no big deal.

GREAT hotel... except...

I really like the my stay ... except... there is essentially no soundproofing between the floors. And whoever stayed in the room above paced back and forth every morning and evening for at least an hour.
The room was great, the bed comfy, the bathroom clean and spacious. Would absolutely stay again... but on the top floor.

Great hotel shame about the noise!

We stayed at hotel indigo to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary.We love Edinburgh and have stayed at many hotels over the years.This hotel was excellent,the staff were brilliant so helpful.The only downside was we were in room 309 the noise from the traffic and trams was bad even with the ear plugs provided,the noise started from 5.30am. Otherwise can’t fault the hotel would definitely stay again probably in a room away from the main road.

Inconvenient

The hotel, itself, was excellent. However, it was not handicap accessible, there being steps from the sidewalk to the front door. Furthermore, taxis are not permitted to stop in front of the hotel, a major inconvenience. For these reasons, I would not recommend staying there.

Everything was really good. Good service, wonderful breakfast and clean undisturbed rooms that had available cleaning and refilling of the available drinks in the room (water, tea,coffee, chokolate, soda). The only thing that I missed was a toilet brush...

Please check your noise level in every room

Most noisy room I’ve ever stayed at. They definitely need to check the noise level in every room. Terrible sound kept coming from the air conditioner even when I turned it off, and even though the window was shut, the noise from various machines outside on the roof came coming in, causing me to hardly fall asleep.

The property Is in a good location and is within walking distance of Waverley Train station and bus station. There are many restaurants and shops for all tastes as expected from any large city.

The hotel itself could do with some renovation and building work in certain areas, but it does a great hot breakfast in the mornings and the staff are great and attentive to all your needs.

The hotel staff was very polite, professional and helpful. The hotel was very clean and was located in an are with access to many local restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Beware - avoid at all costs while staying in beaut

We were very disappointed with our stay at Hotel Indigo. From the moment we booked a premium king room, our hopes for a relaxing holiday were quickly crushed. The hotel does not have true king beds—they zip together two uncomfortable twins with a deep gap in the middle. Our room was dark and dingy, with a huge TV blocking the only window—and it didn’t even work. The wallpaper was peeling, and we were offered earplugs at check-in, a clear sign of what to expect.

There was no phone in the room—just a disconnected one in a drawer. When the hair dryer overheated and nearly set off the alarm, we couldn’t call for help. It could only be used beside the bed, as there was no bathroom outlet or mirror. Smoke lingered at the front entrance, despite “no smoking” signs staff ignored.

Cleanliness was also lacking: after the room was “cleaned,” our bathrobes were left in a dirty pile on the floor. Staff told us replacements were “impossible” and hung up on us. When we raised concerns, we were dismissed repeatedly. The final insult? Being told the issues were due to booking a king room they “weren’t prepared for.” Manager Carla was particularly unhelpful.

This hotel absolutely ruined our stay in Edinburgh. Spend your money elsewhere—this place is not four-star quality in any way.

Noisy hotel with unhelpful staff.

Without doubt the worst hotel experience I've had in 15 years of travelling for either business or pleasure. The room was at street level at the front. So noisy, which I know the hotel can't be responsible for, without having better windows.

The reception was effectively above the room and people were walking through with cases up until after midnight, and form 4am, the ceiling sounded like it was going to come through at numerous points in the night. You can hear every door in the hotel shut, throughout the evening and morning.

I asked if I could cancel my second night after an hour of checking in one night one, and got told it was non-refundable and I had no other options, the hotel was full. With a semi-patronising smile.

I would urge anyone staying in Edinburgh not to stay here, it's terrible. The room was also dark, and for £270 a night I had water and A chocolate bar in the fridge - great value.

On checking out the lady asked how was my stay, when I told her about it, she said 'Sorry to hear that' with no hint of any resolution. what's the point in asking?

Room was tired and needed some maintenance, simple things, wobbly coffee table, loose toilet seat etc. room was otherwise very nice. All the staff were polite and very helpful. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice. They do not provide evening meals but plenty of choice locally. The only downside is a rumbling noise from passing trams which was slightly annoying. Otherwise, we enjoyed a lovely stay.

We used this hotel as our home base, coming and going for three different stays during a two week period when we were not on a Rabbie’s Tour out and about in Scotland. Its location was superb for our purposes, daily breakfast choices were excellent, and staff was quite helpful. The three rooms were consistently terrific: clean, spacious, bright and cheerful, and comfortable.

This hotel was our home base for two weeks as we checked in/checked out three times to stay between our multi-day Rabbie’s Tours of various areas in Scotland. It was super close to where we were to start and end each tour (right around the corner), served excellent breakfasts with multiple options, and was a relaxing, comfortable hotel with helpful, friendly staff. We will definitely stay here again if in the area. Superb!
