We have stayed here on numerous occasions and it's always clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and courteous. We did not have breakfast this time.
Parking is plentiful and they close the hotel gates at night for extra security.
The hotel is convenient for the nearby shopping centre (about a 15-minute walk).

IMO the location is ideal for those who have a car - free parking. It is within 15 minutes to Lille and under an hour to places like Dunkerque Calais, Brugge, Lens and many more great towns. There is also an grocery store + mall 5 minutes away

Direct access to highway.

The beds are comfortable, bathrooms are clean and there is a mini fridge.

The staff are always great - willing to help - very positive experience

Cons - carpeting is dated and some areas had stains. Building generally looks worn down. Breakfast is mediocre.

This was a pleasant stay! The property is quiet and quite large. The breakfast was good too. There are a bunch of yard games and activities available and a pool and mini gym. The staff was very nice!

It’s like coming home

A warm welcome , a good meal , a relaxing bath , a comfortable bed and a quiet location, what more can you ask for. have stayed at this hotel many times in the past, and have always been made very welcome . It’s not the most chic hotel in the world, but definitely has the important features sorted. The restaurant menu is simple but good and reasonably priced. The breakfast is good value and varied.
The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly and a credit to the hotel.
A special mention must be given to Gregory on reception in the evening, who went above and beyond .
stay in many places in Europe and this is one of my absolute favourites, it’s not top end , but it’s not pretentious either, it’s friendly and comfortable and I an always able to relax when I stay here

We chose this hotel as it purports to offer parking, a restaurant and laundry facilities amongst other things.
So, we checked in and asked if we needed to book a table for dinner only to be told “We don’t do meals at the weekend!! But there are places a short drive away.”
Right!!! I’m happy to drink and drive!! NOT!!
So ok. Where is the laundry?? And the reply was “ we don’t have laundry facilities, but we can offer a laundry service at an exorbitant price during the week - but not at weekends”
Holiday Inn?? More like Holiday completely ruined.

The building needs a renovation. Obviously overdue. The bathrooms we had had been renewed. Once repairs have been done- very old carpet removed etc. this hotel will get a knew lease of life. The swimming pool is a real bonus.

Mixed feelings. Muddy car park. Rundown exterior with peeling paint. Reception and bar recently maintained. Threadbare carpet with holes in the room and peeling paint on doors. Friendly staff. Comfortable beds, terrible sofa bed.

Don't Judge a Book by its Cover

Beautiful hotel!
Used it as a quick overnight stay en-route to Germany.
From the photos, the hotel looked like an average/boring Holiday Inn but the inside was such a pleasant surprise!
Rooms were immaculate, cool and well furnished - water was most welcome.
The outdoor pool was a blessing on such a hot day and cocktails by the pool in the evening was so civilised after the mayhem that was the Eurotunnel.
Staff were very friendly and were happy to help us try out our French.
Would definitely use again if in the area

Still clean and very convenient but tired looking!

Have used HI Englos a lot in the past and it is still clean and convenient, with easy access to the motorway. The hotel is getting a bit tired looking now and needs a refurb. When we arrived the wifi was very slow - apparently there was a fault, which was fixed by 9.30pm on the night we stayed.

The hotel is easy to access with large grounds and plenty of parking however ever over the hot Easter weekend the a/c was not on in the bedrooms (apparently the system was still on heating?) Staff did provide a fan when we asked why the a/c wasn’t working but we had a couple of uncomfortably sticky nights

The room was out dated, in poor decorating condition, cold and the bathroom still with the previous resident hairs and dried soap on tiles.
Kindly the staff upgraded the room so they moved us in a newer and clean room. Still quite cold. Corridor of the hotel with stained carpet and distinct smell of sewage.

i was surprised by the presence of a mature lady wearing very short shorts and looking professionally busy with a client.

But I think that the level of cleanliness and decor of hotel in France is generally quite bad. In my opinion and experience: I will avoid it in the future.

Perfect Hotel to get to Calais ferry terminal

Perfect hotel for an easy trip to Calais ferry terminal. Hotel is old but the facilities, room and hotel were clean and staff were very helpful.

Breakfast was lovely and kids ate for free.

Family room meant sleeping on a sofa bed which was not as comfortable as the main bed.

There is also a good shopping centre near by.

Would happily recommend staying in hotel.

A nice base for Lille and area

Doesn't look much from the outside but it's much better on the inside. Rooms are big and comfortable and there is a nice pool and garden for children to let off steam if traveling. The breakfast is good but the evening menu is a bit limited and bland which is a shame as there's not much alternative nearby. The reception staff were very friendly and it was very clean. Good value.

Very disappointed this time

I have stayed here maybe a dozen or so times in the past and it's always been very good. The service is still very good, the food in the restaurant is ok if a bit overpriced but the rooms have always been good. This time we were given a room right at the very end of the hotel on the ground floor. We booked and paid for a twin but they gave us a family room which meant that one of got the sofa bed. Apparently there were no other twins available as they were full. The room badly needs modernising and the bathroom facilities were pretty grim. There was even an unpleasant smell just to round things off.
If you stay here you really want one of the modernised rooms which are 10/10 instead of 3/10.

The outside of the hotel from afar didn't look promising but once we got inside it was modern and very clean. The restaurant food was good but service was slow at dinner and we had to remind the staff of a drink order and ask for sauces for our meal! We did have a large party and the kids (10 of them!) were served quickly so they were little annoyances.
Overall a good experience and there's a massive shopping centre 5 mins away!

Used as base for long weekend - very hot weather meant that air conditioning was needed, however not working on 1st night which meant we got v little sleep- fixed on the 2nd night. They did also open their pool earlier than the stated 15th June which was very welcome indeed. Inside much less shabby than outside and staff very helpful and friendly.

Ideal Lille and area stay.

Excellent hotel in a perfect location for Lille and the war battlefields without getting involved with city traffic and parking problems. Despite the nearness of the A25 motorway, the hotel is quiet at night. Room was adequate in size and well furnished. Breakfast was good but a tad expensive at £ 12 but the evening restaurant is poor and also expensive. My meal was some very dry chicken, dry red cabbage and tasteless potatoes. I think it was all pre-cooked and warmed up again. The dessert also had no taste, although the description made my mouth water. I would use this hotel again, but not eat main meals there.

a pleasant surprise

After reading a few negative reviews about the hotel we were a little apprehensive as to what we were going to find. The hotel is just off the motorway great for traveling guests, not sure if it's in a good location for guest that want to stay more than one night. The grounds are well cared for and pleasant with a number of trees and plenty of free parking, a bonus as many hotels don't have free parking or any at all. The communal parts of the hotel are well decorated with plenty of quiet areas to sit and relax. We stayed in a double room which was clean and comfortable, it was at the front of the hotel yet it was very quiet. Some of the rooms at the back of the hotel look onto the pool area. There was plenty of cars in the car park but only a few guests having evening meals. We had an evening meal on our one night stay it was expensive but ok we will look for another place to eat in the evening on our next stay. The waiter’s service in the evening was very poor and non-attentive as there was only two other people eating in the restaurant we would expect a better waiting service. There was a good choice for breakfast, unfortunately the basket for the buns was empty and didn't get topped up, only as small niggle. The receptionists on both arrival and departure were very pleasant making us feel welcome, the receptionist on our departure also enquired/ if our stay was to our satisfaction. Over all a very pleasant stay in a great location not far from the ports and tunnel.

Room was very clean and quiet.
We would definitely stay there again.
The only thing we were not entirely happy with was that it was a very long way from the reception/car park to our room and we had suitcases and two children (one of them a baby. There should be a separate entrance half way through the hotel for people who stay in the rooms at the back.
Also a car is needed as there is not much in the area around.
Otherwise very good stay.

We arrived very late at the hotel but they had our booking and were very friendly to all of us. There was free parking and free wi-fi which was reliable. Room was fine, with a safe and powerful, hot shower. Beds were comfortable and the sofa bed was made up ready for our son to use as we had requested. There was a Xbox 360 for kids to play in the lobby. Also there was an outdoor pool and gym but we did not have time to use the facilities so cannot comment on those and the pool was shut for the winter period but seemed ok if a tad small. Breakfast was included in the price and included a small hot selection. A bit far out from the main town centre but if you have a car not an issue. Shopping centre was just a stone's throw from the hotel. Considering the price and facilities overall good value for money.

Lovely hotel and staff - recommend!!

My family and I stayed at the hotel on the 27th and 28th November 2015 as part of a wider party of 14. The hotel staff could not have been more accomodating to our large group, nothing was too much trouble. We stayed here as we were going into Lille for the christmas fayre and it proved to be the perfect location. The facilities were great, even and had an xbox to keep the kids entertained. Would definitely return.

We stayed here for a night coming from Paris and the hotel was easy to find but it looked dated from outside. But rooms were good size and clean. Conveniently located just off major route

The hotel at first sight gives a slightly institutional appearance - a long low building with a high fence surrounding the grounds - but once inside the interiors were pleasant enough. The Holiday Inn is very conveniently located just off the main route to Lille, which is about a further 15 minutes down the road. Plenty of parking, always a plus with me, and a small outdoor pool which was fine for children and adults to splash around in between thunderstorms. The rooms were comfortable with free Wifi throughout the hotel, and the restaurant provided adequate (though not stunning) reasonably priced food. A good choice for an overnight stop from the channel ports to the south.

Great hotel for a family stay

We stayed for 3 nights with our 2 kids (ages 11 & 13) arriving directly from Dunkirk and the ferry, located next to the motorway, it is (should be) easy to find, though I did miss the junction!
On the opposite side of the motorway (only 5mins away) is a massive shopping centre with supermarkets restaurants and other stores like toys r us and decathlon.
It was a perfect start to our 14 day adventure across France, Belgium and Holland.
This hotel is only 30-40 mins from Ypres and because of this we used it as a base to explore the various battlefields and memorials.
Our room was air-conditioned (this worked perfectly during our stay), had a small fridge, queen bed and sofa bed, TV with some English channels (sky news, CNN), separate toilet and shower (handy when you have kids.
The grounds are extensive with a small play park for young kids, a table tennis table, volleyball net and an open air pool which was brilliant; the kids (and I) spent hours in it when we weren't out exploring.
The food in general and the buffet breakfast (continental, as you'd expect) in particular was varied, filling, tasty and enormous value for money!
Staff were friendly and all spoke either perfect or sufficient English to overcome my poor level of french.
This hotel is fab, I can't recommend it enough, we will be back next time we are in this area, which I suppose says it all.

Good choice for vacation stop-over

Great stay; I enjoyed the pool and noticed other recreation facilities. An island of relaxation near to the road network. This hotel seems ideal for families on their way to / from holidays but we enjoyed it as a couple too. Breakfast was A+.

Arrived at the hotel but our room was not serviced before we got there. We has lovely room. The swimming room was great. Close to restaurant supermarket and shops near a retail park. Just over the bridge of the supermarket. Flunch restaurant was good and very very cheap

stayed here when it was a novotel- good facilities inc pool-our room was over the entrance and was noisy from a couple of coach parties in late/out early [no aircon +hot night = window open!!] overall was as good as last time [+ cheaper !!! ]

This hotel could be so cool....

We've stayed here many times and we might stay again. However, this review would be better if they would sort out their air conditioning system. Every time we have stayed there we experience the fact that there is no control over the room temperature, and I am now very dissatisfied with that.

There is a nice, modern heating controller on the wall which is capable of either increasing or decreasing the temperature. Each room has the necessary equipment installed, however the hotel overrides this by seeming to control the rooms centrally. So, as has happened before, the last time we were there I woke up in the middle of the night due to the heat, with no ability to lower ther rooms temperature.

I complained to reception in the morning, but all they did was to look on their control screen and confirm that it was working properly!! The hotel needs to understand that this method is not satisfactory. Each room needs to be able to control their own temperature. Until they allow each room to do that I will continue to give a poor review......
