We arrived quite late, around 9pm so parking was a little challenging initially. Check in was efficient and staff on reception were amazing and very welcoming! Room decor was a little tired but comfortable and clean. The food in the restaurant wasn’t great and quite pricey but the ladies serving were receptive to our feedback so a minor point. Again staff in the Restraunt were very attentive in the evenings and at breakfast. I would recommend the hotel for its central location for the City Centre, castle and sports wales centre for example. Would definitely recommend and would stay again due to the staff more than anything. Thank you.

Service from all staff we met was great. Thank you especially to the receptionist who remained very polite and friendly when i was a bit stressy during check in!
Welsh cakes at reception was a nice touch.
Downstairs common areas are modern. Location very convenient for anywhere in the city centre.
Room decor a bit more dated but still very clean.
A standard room with double bed, was approx £130 plus parking £20 and breakfast £17pp was extra. Parking was 1st come 1st served, no booking in advance.

I have paid less for much more luxurious accommodation in other places, but it was one of the better priced hotels i could find for Cardiff (with the 'has parking' filter).
No complaints about our stay, the customer service and location were the main things i would return for.

Life is too short for you to stay at this property. I was a sardine stuck in a stinky can! I’ve never had a room so small. I literally had to move a chair out of the way and stick it by the front door in order to open a suitcase. The bed was hard, and the hallway was dark and dank. Probably one of the worst nights sleep I’ve had in the last 25 years. This hotel is in terrible need of an overhaul and to get out of the 1980s.

The best part is when I left! Some horrible things you just need to leave behind you…

I won't be using this hotel again

The decor in the hall was very grey poorly painted and made me feel like i was in a episode of prisoner cell block H.
Room was clean but needs a fresh lick of paint.
The bed was in wheels and uncomfortable.
Perfect place if you're going out on the town as I discovered most people staying here were as early hours in the morning i could hear various guests returning from their night on the town a little loud or where the walls too thin.

Lovely city centre hotel

We were allocated a room on the third floor facing the road. We asked for a quiet room and were immediately given a room facing the principality stadium. We had a good night sleep. We visit this hotel regularly, our daughter lives nearby. Never had a bad experience. All the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and professional. There is a large car park so really convenient for Cardiff city centre.

The Holiday Inn is in an excellent location for the castle and everything Cardiff has to offer. The lobby, bar and breakfast area are modern and welcoming; and the buffet breakfast was very good. My only criticism was that our room, although large with a comfy bed, was a bit tired and shabby; it lacked the modern touches that the reception and restaurant have been furnished with and the bathroom is small and a bit drab.
As we were staying on a concert weekend the room rate was higher than usual and therefore the tiredness was more disappointing.
For convenience we would possibly book again but I would think twice if comparable city centre hotels were available.

The Hotel was clean and comfortable, staff were very friendly and service was very good. Parking was quite busy but very convenient behind the Hotel. The Hotel location was excellent for the city centre and local amenities. We have stayed before and would stay again.

Very comfortable hotel with excellent restaurant

We liked the large rooms and bathroom. The air conditioning was quiet. We had delicious dinner at the restaurant downstairs. The castle is 5 minutes walking distance and there are many restaurants and stores nearby. We walked from the train station to the hotel. The staff were very friendly.

Poor experience

Visited Cardiff for a 50th birthday party so wanted a bed for the night. Everything was OK until at 7am two loud (possibly drunk) men barged into our room, singing and shouting. When they saw us in bed they said “Oh, we thought this was our room, Reception gave us this number”. They left rapidly and left our door open until I shouted for them to shut it. Left us both shaken and spoilt an otherwise lovely weekend. On departure we reported this to Reception and the Receptionist refunded us our breakfast charge. Rather disappointed.
