The location of this hotel was AMAZING! So close to everything. Ample parking and beautiful home. The room was very clean and adjoining bathroom was spotless and included toiletries which I LOVE. They even provided robes! Nice touch. The bed was way firmer than I would have liked but that’s just personal preference.
The hotel also had a complimentary candy bar that was a great little snack when arriving back. such a cute addition.
We were here in winter so we didn’t get to use the outdoor space but it was super cute and had tons of seating.
I do wish they served breakfast. They have some pastries but having to leave to get breakfast was a bummer.
Overall I would recommend- friendly staff- very informative on surrounding areas and events taking place.

Unfortunately, the Marshal Slocum Inn was, in our opinion, not worth the cost. The breakfast was anything but. A small plate of 1” x 1” coffee cakes and a few apples and bananas in a bowl do not constitute breakfast at a $400 a night B&B.
Breakfast aside, everything was very clean and parking was plentiful. The location is within walking distance of downtown.
We stayed in the Slocum Room (#2). The bed was very comfortable and, though none of the rooms have a television, there was a small tablet that had Netflix and Disney+ available. The bedside tables had USB ports built-in and each nightstand had a charging cord just in case you forgot yours at home.
There were some downsides to the room, though. This is a very old house; the walls and ceilings are very thin. So thin that when someone walked around upstairs, our ceiling fan would shake and vibrate due to improper installation (we actually had to stuff tissues around the globe so we could sleep). If you have loud talkers in the room next to you or someone with heavy feet above you, you’re in trouble.
If we didn’t pay over $800 for two nights, I wouldn’t be writing this review. But charging that much means your property is bound to be held to a higher standard.

Comfortable room and quiet with off street private parking which is a plus as parking was difficult and few areas where is it free. Only issue was the bed was a bit too soft for my husbands preference but I had no problem. Slept very well

Our first time in a Bed n Breakfast and we found it’s not really our thing. Breakfast was a small selection of 2 pastries, a fruit and coffee. I know we booked the standard room but it was really small and it had no TV. It was on the third floor, which was tough for two 70 year olds. It’s a historic house with character but I guess we expected more.

We had an excellent time! The Inn felt really cozy and historic. Everything was well maintained. We spent a good amount of time when it rained hanging out in the kitchen, reading and playing games in the nook, and sitting and eating on the back deck. Our room was really cozy and well kept. The bed was comfortable and AC worked well. There were few to no single use items, instead towels and pumps of soap and shampoo were provided, which was really cool. Location was great as it is walking distance to many great restaurants and attractions. We always felt safe in the neighborhood walking night or day. Parking in the back was spacious and homey. Due to the pandemic, room service was not done every day, but that was not an inconvenience to us whatsoever.

Great little inn on a quiet peaceful street in Newport. Minutes from shops and restaurants on the main drag! Loved our room it was very clean and comfortable. Nice little patio on the back yard and free parking in the back. Just wish they had offered breakfast for the price. Tea and coffee was available though.

We have had many years of experience staying at inns and in comparison the Malcom Sloan falls short. It was the first time that we experienced check in, breakfast and departure being totally unattended. Our room was to have come with breakfast but instead items were displayed with a cost. Individual boxes of cereal, pastry wrapped in Plastic wrap and do it yourself coffee. Along with snack items. Not at all like what was pictured online. So one of the B and B’s is lacking. Toiletries in pump bottles may have been due to Covid precautions but smaller bottles and soap wrapped in paper is more inviting. How could this possible be rated a 9.4?

I spent my weekend on the top floor, the third floor, in the cozy postcard room. It was like a spacious womb of heaven with the sunlight streaming in and a view of the sunset on the water beyond historic turrets. Not only did my daily hike past the gilded age mansions and ocean prove deeply contemplative but I feel incredibly cared for at the Marshall Slocum Inn. It’s my favorite place to stay in Newport.
