The door slamming, all day all night, is unbearable. The hotel should do something about it. Housekeepers shows they're vacuuming but the is a pile of dust behind the bedroom door. In slite of that, the staff is very professional and courteous. Bus, tram and trains are just steps away.

Depends on the staff, some are nicer than others. Someone randomly took off my clothes from the dryer when it’s not done so when I got my clothes it’s all damp. Staff partied harder than guests. They were on the tables dancing and yelling in the common room/kitchen.

Wake Up! Sydney owned by the Millet family, is conveniently located near Central station. All rooms including the private rooms, the dorms, and the bathrooms, are immaculately clean. Impressive considering there are over 500 beds in this place. The kitchen on the 1st floor is clean and modern with new electric hobs. 2 convection ovens and microwaves. Big shoutout to Nora, India and Pearse who always make me feel welcome when I stay. A high quality and recommended hostel. (There is also a Wake Up! at Bondi beach).

The hostel was geared toward young travelers. It is convenient to a train station (and airport train) and has lots of shopping and dining around. The two guest bunk room I rented was tiny but adequate ,communal showers and toilets old but clean. Loved the over sized window in the tiny room. 24 hour staff was helpful.

The location is unbeatable—right next to Central Station. Both the beds and the shared bathrooms are very clean, and the hostel even offers a free walking city tour. The kitchen is spacious, well-managed, and perfect for cooking your own meals. I would definitely choose to stay here again the next time I visit Sydney.

An Australian owned hostel, founded by the Millet family. There are 3 hostels in the WAKE UP! chain, WAKE UP! Sydney Central, one in Bondi, and one in Byron Bay, Of all the 3 Wake Up's, WAKE UP! Sydney Central is the weakest link in my opinion, simply due to how it is run. The target audience for this hostel is 18-30 years. I was happy that the staff checked me in early in the morning before the official time and the upgrade. The building has been renovated. The room is small but clean. My only complaint is that the toilet bowls were dirty. I blame it on the design because it is deep and the pool of water is small, like a well. So lots of poops stuck above the water. I suggest the management taking a look at American ones of which the pool is wider and no well

The location is great… close to central train station. The common bathroom has spacious shower area. Hair dryer and toiletries are provided as well. We booked a room good for 3 pax. The AC is central. But was really disappointed with the pillows, blanket and towels. They smell like rust. We had to buy our own pillows and towels from Big W.

Very disappointed in the room basic for what I paidA long way to the shared bathroom. Better to get a shared room which is a much better price. Someone told me there are much more affordable rooms about 2 min walk (well that info was a bit late for this trip). Nothing open for coffee till 8 I was told. So left for the central station without having a hot drink.

I had an excellent stay at Wake Up! Sydney. The hostel was clean, the reception is open 24/7 (a big plus!), and the location is unbeatable—just a short walk to Central Station, with easy access to food, bars, restaurants, and shops.
The shared bathrooms were very clean, and there’s also a well-equipped community kitchen where you can cook and store your own food, which is super convenient for budget travelers. However, there’s no parking available, so plan accordingly if you're driving.
The only downside was the air conditioning. It’s on full blast all the time, and I found it way too cold. It would be great if they allowed guests to adjust the settings for a more comfortable experience.

We have stayed here before and the room was larger, paid extra for ensuite this time and very disappointed. Whole unit was far too small for an ensuite room. No where to put luggage, except for under the bed, so every time you needed something from your suitcase was to retrieve suitcase from under the bed. Bed against one wall and the only way for this person to get up, was to either wake partner to get up, or crawl to end of the bed, especially during the night if using the bathroom. Last stay we were offered a voucher for light meal/breakfast in cafe on ground floor for breakfast, not this time, even though asking if this was possible. There needs to be a ramp to take luggage into the building, only way to enter without climbing entrance stairs, is through the Roy's cafe.

The hostel is great, lots of people from all over and a very friendly atmosphere. I was able to check in early and considering I had just arrived from London it was super helpful. The beds were clean although when I was on the 7th floor it got very hot at night. The events the hostel runs were fun and were great value for money.
However the Side Bar adjacent to the hostel have horrible door men, If you are a black or middle eastern man good luck being allowed in. I was with my group of friends twice in a row \"sorry mate not tonight\" where as the rest of the group allowed in, considering the second time I didn't even have a drink before due to being weary about the bouncers. When I told him I sober as he claimed I walked past him, so did the rest of the group?

I never knew there was this type of lodging until i experienced this one. It is of great saving to lodge in an affordable property like this when the need for lodging is for transit to another state from a travel or even while living here. Location is great however it is let down by parties by guests that continue to 2am, by no tea/coffee making facilities in our room, general untidiness outside the hotel and surrounds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. In my opinion this hotel should be advertised as accommodation for young singles and those under 40. It certainly seemed to suit them. As older guests we found it did not suit us as well as we would have liked.

This hostel was super handy with its location right next to the station. I was so relieved to be just across the road when my train arrived into Sydney. Roy's Cafe was superb and the staff were incredible at their job, producing consistently high quality food and drinks with a smile on their face, even with an endless stream of customers. I wish there had been an option to tip via card, as I didn't have cash on me. The recommendations of what to do in Sydney provided by the hostel through a QR code were a life-saver for me and gave me some great ways to spend my time in the city. I did struggle to sleep because of very loud building works just outside my window, but there was nothing the hostel could do to change that situation whilst I was there, as there were no other rooms available for me to move into. Overall, I had a great time and would recommend!

As hostels go this is up there as one of the best ones I’ve stayed at. The location is the best part. It’s in Haymarket which is very central and a cool neighborhood with great food options. Across the street from Central Train Station. There are trams everywhere. I walked to the CBD without any issues.
The facility is clean and well organized. The bunk beds are secured to the wall so if someone moves it doesn’t shake the whole thing. The staff was friendly and of course there’s the cafe and club right there. I never heard any noise at night from the club. Overall 4.5/5

Short stay value for money
As I was in town to review a show, we booked an overnight stay. We knew the accomodation offered was budget, and booked a private room with shared bathroom facilities. Our request for 'accomodation as high as possible' was met and we were accomodated on the 6th floor. Though basic the room was clean, comfortable, as were the bathroom facilities. As the property is situated very close to public transport, it suited our needs perfectly, offered excellent value, and we would have no hesitation in staying there again.
