We stayed at the Crystalbrook Albion because it was recommended on Michelin Guide, but it did not meet our expectations.
The hotel itself was cool and the room was updated, but I would highly recommend staying far away from the “Cosy” room. It’s advertised as a room that can sleep two, but that is a stretch at best. No closet space, super limited hangers for dresses or dress shirts, and no walking space in the room. You’ll find yourself living on top of each other if you’re traveling with two.
The small room booking was likely our fault, but here’s more details on where the property itself let us down:
- Extremely humid rooms. We were traveling in March when the summer temps weren’t even at their peak, but we still found our room to be humid. We had the cool air cranked down to 20 Celsius at night and would still wake up to a humid room and wet clothes.
- Drain flies were everywhere. We had them in our room and saw them all over the lobby.
- The walls are paper thin. The hotel advertises that the rooms are quiet, but the noise from the hallway and from the room next to us was very loud compared to others properties we’ve stayed at. This kept us up at night and woke us up early in the morning.
- The spout on the sink in our room didn’t fit the sink, so we had trouble keeping water in the sink. The spout was too large for the small sink.
- The lights on the safe in our room wouldn’t stop blinking all night.
Staff was amazing and very accommodating! They were a 5 star crew!

The hotel is in a great lication. The staff are great. The honesty bar is a great addition to the experience. However our room was not really up to luxury standards. The room needs places to put luggage. No luggage stands. One small drawer makes it awkward. Also it smelled like damp washcloth unless we left the windows open. They did remove the smelly pillowcases but it dudnt get rid of sour smell. The rooftop needs better furniture. The wire seats are not comfortable and things have rusted which makes it feel less enjoyable. For the price its not up to standards. Still a nice stay.

Crystalbrook is perfectly situated in Surry Hills. It’s perfect to travel throughout Sydney, with many transport options. But there’s also a great restaurant and bar scene nearby.

Around and eat/drink locally. Hotel is a bit hidden looks like it’s in an alley! But inside is really nice and staff are helpful and friendly. By the way if you’re bringing a car you have the option to park on the street not just at the hotels designated parking lot
(Which is $$$!) And it’s not that hard just follow instructions on street signs. And it’s much cheaper! Follow the road all the way down to the right you will see a few car slots there. We got lucky and where able to get a spot all 3 days we where there wed-Fri.

This is a beautiful, well appointed hotel in the center of Surrey Hills. Walking distance to most everything you’ll want to see. The rooms are on the smaller side, but very comfortable and well appointed.
They offer pastries fruit throughout the morning, coffee tea all day.
There is a comfortable rooftop appointed with plants and flowers, French bistro chairs, and tables. It’s a perfect place to have breakfast or to work from.

Enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Very clean and tidy with amenities there. Liked the self service bar. The back street on little Albion street can be quite narrow if there are cars parked. If you’re in an Uber XL or larger car, you may want to be mindful of going through the street. Nice and central location with good eateries. There is no room service here.

The Crystalbrook Albion in the Surrey Hills neighborhood of Sydney is an absolute gem. It's a small boutique hotel in a safe, quiet and very walkable area just a couple of blocks away from the very cool Crowne Street, where you'll find great restaurants (many pricey - but everything in Sydney is pricey esp at restaurants - but a few reasonable), and ice cream shops and a cool high end grocery. It's very cool, and the place to be. Any day of the week you'll find many Sydneysiders coming out for drinks or dinner and even without a car, or if you are travelling alone, you are steps away from being in the middle of things. It's a very european vibe, in fact I discovered an awesome very French style bar/cafe literally steps from my door. The hotel has excellent attentive staff, the place is furnished w great art, artful design touches throughout, plus free breakfast (delicious pastries and a cappucino machine in the cozy \"Honor Bar\"). My only quibble with the place is that the only way to communicate with the front desk if you need anything -is to text them via an ipad in the room but unfortunately no one told me they don't respond to the ipad (only a text back to your phone as I later learned) so I'd spend time waiting for a response that never came until much later after having to go to speak to them.They are on 24/7 though and very lovely and very responsive at the end of the day, so it was a minor issue. Otherwise, I love this place. Plus reasonable rates by US standards!

I was dropped off at night on Albion Street as driver couldn’t find entrance on little Albion as it wasn’t lit up so we drove past. I had to ask a stranger to call the hotel to let me in as I didn’t have the ability to call on my Canadian phone. Was starving and wanted to order room service… no restaurant which was not mentioned on line or I missed that either way was annoying. The digital key didn’t always work the gate when I was coming back to hotel and noone was at reception one time to buzz me in which was also annoying as I was desperate to have a pee…. Last glitch was the elevator broke one day so had to climb to fourth floor which ordinarily not a big deal but I was jet lagged and very tired! These things happen though. Otherwise great location once you get past the main entrance is off essentially an alley so I was able to walk all over downtown Sydney. Super super comfy bed and pillows!! I would stay again but plan for food better …

It’s an interesting place to stay. The walk from Rydges car park was very uphill, being an excessively hot day and having an injury that wasn’t fun- despite it being a short walk. The soundproofing was pretty woeful and we were woken several times but the noise of other guests. Room is teeny tiny but has what we needed. Staff were really nice.

When we walked into the property (3 hours before check-in time and following a flight from L.A.), we were greeted with a smile and great service. While our room was not ready, the manager arranged to have it prioritized...and offered us a shower, pastries, and coffee while we waited. The room was as advertised. Clean. Well-appointed. Comfortable. The location was perfect. It was quiet, but close to public transportation (which is fantastic in Sydney). Unrelated to the hotel, but worth noting is Shaffa (a couple doors down). We booked dinner there because it was close to the hotel -- but during a trip where we at at restaurants with \"Chef's Hats\" and \"World's 50-best\" accolades, this was probably the best meal we had. We would stay at Crystalbrook Albion again. It's a gem.

We stayed in one of the pet friendly Urban rooms which was cute but VERY SMALL. Then with the additional $95 for bringing our dog, this meant we paid $500+ for one night with a check in at 3pm with no breakfast or parking. The room had no access to any form of light/view as it looked out onto a brick wall/tiny alley way.
Having stayed all over the world at some incredible places, I personally felt this room was massively overpriced. I wouldn't stay again, which is a shame as the hotel is tastefully furnished and the staff are AMAZING but value for money just isnt there.

The Albion is a classy boutique hotel in the heart of Surrey Hills that took me straight back to some of my favourite small hotels in Paris. Only stayed one night but will be back. The room was beautifully presented and immaculately clean. The hotel is very quiet despite its location. No restaurant but why would you think about eating in the hotel when you are surrounded by some of the best restaurants and cafes in Sydney?

Little Albion is absolutely divine. It has the informal feel of home but is beautifully designed and extremely comfortable without being pretentious. The staff were absolutely delightful - called to see we were on our way and ok, welcomed and checked us out us like old friends, brought us our Deliveroo dinner with crockery and cutlery. Very lovely rooms. The only criticism is that the toilet stalls in the beautiful open bathrooms are on the small side which can be challenging for tall types with longer legs. I loved this hotel and would highly recommend.

The hotel design is nice but the photos for each room are misleading on this site. The Master shows a bath but it didn't have one. The tv didnt wirk or the iPad in the room. The hotel is incredibly stylish and modern and so chic for such a small space. While the rooms are quite tiny, they've used their spaces incredibly well and have managed to incorporate seamlessly, all you could need. The location is also right in the heart of Surry Hills which it's hard to find boutique style hotels in this neighborhood. And the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. Highly recommend!
